I've been on Synthroid for 8 months after gaining 10 pounds in two months. The symptoms started to appear when my Mom was very ill. Doctor said it was caused by stress and started me on 25 mcg of Synthroid. My reading at that time was 5.56. I had blood work done every 4 weeks, and the numbers are going down (1.8 last reading), but so is the quantity of my hair, which I see all over my white tile. My weight hasn't budged even though I am dieting. My doctor upped me to 100 mcgs. My blood work is not good - low white count, low lymphocytes, borderline anemic. Mom died, and I didn't get any better. I feel sick all the time and it's difficult for my husband to understand how bad I feel. I've tried to get my doctor to prescrive Armour, but he doesn't even return my phone calls. When I see him in the office, he keeps telling me it takes time. I hate living this way and want to stop the pills completely.

I have been taking synthroid for 20 years due to a nodule. It shrunk the nodule almost imediately but my eye, ear, nose and throat dr. insisted I continue to take sythroid. Today I had an regular appointment to check levels and he said that we are going to take me off synthroid. That a recent school of thought is that Synthroid doesn't need to be continued after the nodule is reduced!! I inquired several times about going off synthroid thru the years because I had alot of side effects. Hair loss, anxiety, heart palpitations, chest pain, sweating constantly, insomnia....all of the symptoms described by others on this page. I am kinda pissed but relieved to finally get to STOP TAKING IT!! Ask your Drs. about this if you just had a nodule and take synthroid for shrinking the nodule!!

i STARTED TAKEING SYNTHROID OVER FIVE MONTHS AGO. tHE FIRST DAY i FELT GREAT AND THEN MY SYMPTOMS THAT I STARTED WITH CAME BACK PLUS MORE LIKE CHEST PAIN AND WIERD FEELING IN MY THROUT. THE DOCTOR SAID IT WAS NORMAL BUT I COULD INCREASE MY DOSAGE TO A PILL AND A HALF. i DID THAT AND i EXPERIANCED LOSS OF MENTAL CONSENTRATION, EXTREM FEELINGS OF STRESS WHEN THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT IRRITABILITY. TO A POINT THAT i BEGAN HAVEING ANGER EPISODES. i DECIDED TO SEE A DIFFERENT dOCTOR AND HAD MY bLOOD TESTS FAXED TO HIM. oNLY TO FIND OUT THE ORIGINAL DOCTOR APPARENTLY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO READ THE TEST RESULTS. i WAS NOT HYPOTHYROID BUT I WAS HYPERTHYROID. IF THE NUMBERS ARE LOW THAT MEANS YOUR BODY IS CREATEING TO MUCH HORMONE WHICH IS HYPERTHYROID IF THE NUMBERS ARE HIGH THAT MEANS YOUR BODY IS NOT CREATING ENOUGH HORMONE WHICH MEANS THAT YOU ARE HYPOTHYROID. I HAVE BEEN OF SYNTHROID FOR TWO WEEKS AND FEEL TEN TIMES BETTER. ALTHOUGH I MAY HAVE MORE PERMANENT DAMAGE. IT IS OK TO SEE OTHER DOCTORS. I HAVE BEEN INTERVIEWING DOCTORS FOR YEARS THANK GOD I HAVE FINALLY FOUND ONE THAT IS INTERESTED IN MY HEALTH AND LISTENS TO ME.

Hello To All,
I too am on this med, I have been on it for 1 year as of July 2008-

Does anyone know of any study done in a medical journal that theu could forward to me so I can show my doctor.
Please email me at ****** I would be so very thankful.
Thanks to all and be healthy.
