I have been on Levothyroxene for 14 months now. I have been experiencing nightmares, a "butterfly" feeling between my chest and stomach, itchy skin, dizziness, and am still fatigued. My dose is 50mcg. once a day. that was upped from 25 mcg. a day as my TSH level was not within the normal range. Sometimes I feel like I'm feeling WORSE after being put on Levothyroxene. I also am still gaining weight and am constantly bloated, having bouts of diarrhea, and my blood pressure won't stay regulated. I am currently recuperating from a bad cold and the cough is hanging on. My other meds I take are Atenolol-12.5 mg. once a day and Xanax-.25 mg. two to three times a day. Is there an interaction between all these meds(I take them at different intervals thruout the day to avoid interactions)?

I have been a low dose of synthroid for 6 months now. My symptoms before syntrhoid were dizzy feeling - almost passing out - very light headed all the time - forgetful - heart palpitations - extreme foot pain - fatigue - moodiness - wanting to jump out of my skin. Finally, after 2 years found a Dr that wanted to check my thyroid. It's changed my life. Now the only feelings I'm having after starting synthroid - extreme hair loss and a terrible cough. That's really my question - has anybody developed a cough after taking this medicine. It only will last a little bit in the morning after taking it.

I was put on Synthyroid 20 years ago. It did nothing beneficial that I could detect, so I discontinued taking it. -- I was always cold, always tired, I just learned to live with it. (Thankfully, I was a stay-at-home Mom, so didn't have to punch a time clock.) -- Fast forward 10 years to 1999. I had many food allergies, dust allergies, pet allergies, was tired, cold, ached all over. etc;etc: -- Was referred to an old doctor who listened patiently and told me he thought thyroid supplimentation would help. -- Started me on Armour thyroid. One pill, then upped to two all the way to 6 a day before I felt any differently. -- Slowly, my allergies improved. My energy improved. I started to feel like a new person.
For those of you who are still strugling with getting your thyroid situation straigntened out, try going to this web site:
http://www.majidali.com/temperat.htm.
It will fill you in on why some of what has been done for you hasn't worked.
Good Luck!
Marie
PS My daughter was on Armour thyroid, and when she couldn't get it, was put on Synthroid. -- Within three weeks she had mood swings, was mean, was always cold, was depressed, ached all over. Had a cough.
