I have been on synthroid since 1982 after RAI to treat Graves. I had 1 child since then and was early 20's but around 30's started having weight gain and fatigue etc. I stopped the meds in 1992 on my own for several months then dr was very scolding and said never do that again. Ever since I went back on I have been gradually worse and worse. Went from 105 in 1982 to 192lbs now. I feel so helpless and lack of care from doctors in trwating me. 1996 had hysterectomy and both ovaries removed which has caused even greater imbalance of the estrogen and thyroid. I pray that I can find a cure that does not require medication like synthroid. Tried Armour in 2005 but did not get better. Lost a little weight but now I found it again and more. The only doctors in MN that I believe can help do not take insurance and I am single parent of 2 children and cannot afford to pay out of pocket expenses. I have already spent close to $1000 to the naturopaths but they sold me way too many supplements, I cannot even take all them its too much plus they both said lose weight. I have no energy or mind skills to implement a structured diet and exercise plan. Anyone know a doctor in twin cities, MN that takes insurance Preferred one that can help me with bio-hormones? Tmaya

I have been on Synthroid since about 1995. I had a thyroidectomy and do not have a thyroid anymore. I have been on 0.175 mcg for about 10 years and did not have any side effects except for fatigue and a little depression.Everything else was pretty good. My TSH is registering low so my doctor moved me to 0.1 mcg of Synthroid and 5 micrograms of Cytomel. I took this for about three weeks and for the last 1.5 weeks have had awful headaches and the dryest eyes ever. Something, I have not experienced before. My doctor keeps saying he wants to help me but does not listen to
any of my symptoms. I actually pulled off the symptoms from the list online of hypothyroidism and have 15 out of about 20. I am wondering why I felt so much better on the higher dose than this low dose. Can anyone releate. I am starting to think maybe my body is not processing this right. The funny thing is is that my lab work came back with normal results today, which means my doc is probably going to keep me where I am and I feel the worst I have felt in ten years.

I have read a lot of these blogs and I am seeing that many other people have the same side effects. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was in 6th or 7th grade I think and I am now a high school senior so about 5 years taking Synthroid. the doctors said that my antibodies had completely destroyed my thyroid gland so I wasn't getting any of the hormones I needed which became very noticeable when I started gaining weight and loosing energy in 5th grade. I haven't really seen any weight gain in a while but I still look like I am overweight. I am 5'6 and 130 lbs so I am about average. Side effects that are also occurring are rapid mood changes, one minute I am happy and something sad happens or I think about something and ill be tearing up. I feel depressed a lot. I am currently on 150 mcg. also during 9th and 10th grade I was put on this drug to stop my puberty so that I could grow more while on the Synthroid I guess it helped a little with height but I still look like a freshman. I don't know if I should stop taking it or keep taking it because I stopped for about a month once and started getting really sick, I would get really bad nose bleeds at random, had constant migraines and felt sick to my stomach. I started taking the Synthroid again and felt fine. I really don't know what to do.

I've been on Synthroid for almost a year now, and I feel great. I was feeling so bad before, I had constant painful headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, body aches it was horrible. Once I started the med I felt 100% better after a few days. However, if I miss a days dose or two I get my symptoms back full force.

Had total thyroidectomy 9 months ago and started taking Synthroid immediately thereafter. For the last 4 months I have noticed significant hair thinning. I have always had very thick, healthly looking hair but now it's just dry and brittle all of the time. I always feel tired and bloated around my stomach area in particular. I have always been a size 4-6 but have inexplicably gained 6 pounds in the last month. Is there an alternative to snythroid without these side effects?

I've been on synthroid for three years now, and was caused by stress during pregnancy. i gained 80 pounds, started losing my hair, and was very fatigue after haveing a baby, when the doctor finally thought something was wrong. She uped the dose two times because no changes have been made, Im still at 147 yes 147 on tests. Im on 125mg now I still feel no difference. I going to be 300 pounds by the time they realize its not working. Thank god Im on adderall too because thats they only thing keeping my weight down.

I have been a low dose of synthroid for 6 months now. My symptoms before syntrhoid were dizzy feeling - almost passing out - very light headed all the time - forgetful - heart palpitations - extreme foot pain - fatigue - moodiness - wanting to jump out of my skin. Finally, after 2 years found a Dr that wanted to check my thyroid. It's changed my life. Now the only feelings I'm having after starting synthroid - extreme hair loss and a terrible cough. That's really my question - has anybody developed a cough after taking this medicine. It only will last a little bit in the morning after taking it.

I have been on synthroid of 50 mcg for 4 months and now 75 mcg for about 3 months. I do forget to take it now and than, but otherwise been pretty good about it. I am 30 yrs old, and also take vicodin and flexorill for my back. Can someone tell me if the synthroid is causing the extreme tiredness and fatigue i am feeling. Note - I dont take vicodin or flexoril until about 11 pm at nite. Only on synthroid during the day. It is so extreme that I almost went to the hospital. Thought I was going to faint.
