Well....I had missed a few days of my synthroid because I was on vacation, and started to feel really sluggish and just "off". I had a thyroidectomy a few years ago due to a growth in my thyroid that was only getting bigger. So...after reading all of these, the few problems I have been having over the years (hair loss, insomnia, horrible leg cramps), have gotten me worried. What are the options for someone like me? Who doesnt have a thyroid? What happens if I totally STOP taking this?

I have been between 110 - 115 lbs most of my adult life. I tried everything to gain weight, but it didn't work. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease when I was pregnant with my son. I took PTU for the duration of the pregnancy. I was symptom free for about 4 years. About two years ago, I started to experience symptoms related to Graves Disease. I saw an Endo doctor who told me that I have a non-cancerous goiter that needed to be removed. I have thyroid surgery 8 months ago. I started taking Synthroid shortly thereafter. I have been trying to explain my symptoms of Hair Lost, Dry skin and nails, Insomnia, weight lost, lost of appetite, and leg cramps to someone for 6 months. Nobody listens. They just discount my symptoms. Today I decided to do some research to find out if I was alone. I AM NOT ALONE. I've been taking Synthroid for 8 months. My hair is so thin that you can see my scalp. Combing my hair makes me upset because I have chunks of hair in the comb. I too called my doctor and he replied,"I can't believe that your symptoms are related to your synthroid use." Reading these articles helped to prepare me for his responses. I insisted that I didn't want to take Synthroid anymore. He ordered blood work and advised that I have to continue taking this medication. I don't want to feel this way for the rest of my life. I have a 6 years old son who is full of life. I don't have the energy to keep up sometimes. I felt better before my Thyroid Surgery. (34 years old Woman, post Thyroid Surgery for an Enlarged Goiter and Hyperthyroidism). Where is the support????

I started taking Synthroid 0.25mcg 4 month ago, for a thyroid that was a little under active. Last month I moved up to 0.50mcg. I have never felt better. Since I've been on the Synthroid I feel better than I have in 15 years, I'm 45. I have no hair loss, no leg cramps and my weight is fine. My period has become very normal again. The only thing that I notice is, my eye sight is changing. I had LASIK surgery a year ago and I'm noticing that my eye sight has gotten worse since I went to 0.50mcg. I go to the eye doctor in a week, it could just be aging. But I hope this helps someone to feel better. I did read that it take time to regulate the correct dosage to your needs, so just keep working with your doctor. And if your doctor doesn't seem to be working with you to make you feel better, then go to another doctor, I did.

I have been taking synthroid for 10 years and for 9 of those years everytime I get a dosage the doctor thinks will get my readings to a safe level, I begin to have heart palpitations to an extent that I pass out. At first I was rushed to hospital several times from passing out in public places. I also have leg cramps, coroited artery aches and the inevitable weight gains. Finally my doctor sent me to an Endro this week and he claims he has never heard of side effects and tells me to increase me dosage slowly. My readings are suppose to be between 4 and 5 and they are 26! He treated me like I was a hysteric and told me not to breath so hard when I am having palpitations. Someone mentions a balance between T3 and T4 can someone explain. I am so happy to know there are others like me out there. Sally

Man, I really messed myself up, I guess. I have been taking the 1.50 for a few years now. I am now 55, ...and lately, for the last twenty days or so, I started having daily, all day long palpitations. So I walk four miles a day, or whenever they start up..but the first thing I thought, was it was time to lower my thyroid..so I broke them in half..BIG MISTAKE...caused my heart to go faster, leg cramps. cold feet, then hot feet, hands, etc....so when I put it back after one week, I started feeling a little better..but still have the heart palpitations...so I figure time to buy some insurance and get it all in order...WOW...how terrifying...

I just start on Wednesday with a 0.05 dosage. So far, I haven't noticed much of anything except for, maybe, a little constipation. Not sure if it's from the medicine or just not eating as well as I should. Some of the side effects that people have been mentioning are ones that I had PRIOR to taking Synthroid. I was putting on weight like crazy, feeling depressed, extremely tired all the time -- to the point where I would just sit for hours, occasional foot and leg cramps, and a puffy face. Hopefully, Synthroid will help with these instead of making it worse.

hi there-
well just to fill you in im a 33 year old woman living in brooklyn, ny.
i was recently diagnosed as having a thyroid tumor-
there were also nodule growth on my thyroid-
i was so frustrated when they told me ---they could tell me i had cancer- but they could not tell me it didn't unless they removed the whole thing.
so two weeks ago out she came- tumor , thyroid and all. the aspirate showed that it was a solid mass- and the test result was "suspicious"
i have noticed since i have been on the synthroid-
leg pains- anxiety and depression.
i may be shakey but i am still taking the pain meds-
i think to even out the whole emotions that go with the experience-
i just saw my neck for the first time two days ago-
i feel like a peez dispenser-
and feel constant feeling( almost like a pressure) where the surgery was performed-
they say it might be environmental or genetic. it does seem to be prevolent in the north east-
im still figuring this whole thing out-really
but it helps to hear other testimonies- the leg cramps were really bothering me!

I have been on synthroid for about 6 months now. Some of the side effects I have been experiencing are numerous.I have hair loss, sometimes I get so ill that no one can stand to be around me, my weight has gone up about 30 pounds, my cholesterol levels went sky high so now I'm taking Crestor, I'm bloated most times, I have episodes where my face flushes and gets so red that it feels like its on fire, and now I've just started experiencing burning and aching of the legs, I'm tired a lot too! My doctor said I would lose the weight but every time I go for check ups and get on the scale it just keeps going up. I would like to know if anyone else out there is experiencing the burning and achy legs because I have been tested for everything and they can't find out what is going on. They of course say it's not the medication. It seems to never be. Does anyone feel me??
