I am a diabetic with hashi. I had been taking synthroid longer than metformin and had been on both for at least a year now. Recently I have been to ER due to heart palpitation and shortness of breath, so I had stopped my synthroid .1 for one day and felt better. So I stopped taking synthroid altogether, After 3 weeks I took it again because I was afraid not to follow my doctors order. 3 days into it, I was back to a high pulse, shortness of breath, chest pin and palpitation. I went to a different doctor,
and he agreed that we experiment on the dosage and try a generic brand.
I took .25 this time and I had the same reaction as taking synthroid .1.
I have now stopped completely, I am hoping to that my doctor will listen to me and will give something else other than synthroid.

A couple of other symptoms I didn't mention before are I still get cold a lot and ibuprofen is my best friend because of all the aches and pains. But running on 3-5 hours of sleep a night with the occasional 7 hours has definitely diminished the quality of my life.

Would like to know if anyone taking Synthroid who has been having itchiness, joint/muscle pain(neck, lower back, knees, ankles, arms), extreme fatigue, etc.. have also been having shortness of breath, inflammation of the lungs. I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis 6 years ago which causes inflammation of the lungs and scarring of the lungs. I do not have these symptoms when on other thyroid meds. Possible allergic reaction to Synthroid. Please reply a.s.a.p. Thanx

I've been taking synthroid for several years due to radiation caused thyroid damage. I appear to be quite sensitive to Synthroid. I get a total rush from a 77 mcg, but have no such effect when taking a 50 plus a 25. I've been told it is due to the dye in the 77. If my doses are too low (50 mcg), then I feel great for a week or two, but become foggy mentally and after a few weeks have sharp pains in the joints and muscles. At higher doses, I become irritable, have shortness of breath (77 mcg) and have burning sensations in the kidney area.

I find that regular exercise (walking 1-2 miles/day) moderates these effects greatly and stabilizes the emotional swings. The amount of medication that I need to balance between these two extremes varies depending on the amount of exercise I get.

Palpitations, insomnia and shortness of breath and hot flashes and stressed out. Perhaps my levels are too high? I take 100 mcg daily 5x week and 50 mcg 2x week.

Labs last checked about 6 weeks ago and TSH was around 1.0

I haven't taken my Synthroid for a couple of days and then I am going to decrease dosage to about half the prescribed dose until I can get in touch with my M.D.

The palpitations are worrisome so I certainly don't want to aggravate those.

Hi all, i live in NY and have been on synthroid. since i was 34 i am 50 now. Because of the huge normal range it is very easy to take too much synthroid. Doctors also do not know how to prescribe it...It is better to take a little bit less then move the dose up. Mohammed Ali( the prize fighter) thought that taking synthroid would make him a better fighter ,stronger etc... he took synthroid, though he didn't have thyroid issues, and became tired and sick.

So from my experience too synthroid much causes constipation, muscle cramps in the calves first , then everywhere, like your butt and then your pelvic floor which in turn can cause frequency. Your feet swell, you get much more tired and irritable then depressed. Your heart races then you have episodes of shortness of breath and horrible crushing anxiety. Also your hair falls out..

Also as you go into menopause with less estrogen you need less synthroid , (pregnant women need to take more)but NONE will tell you this so you just get sick all over and think that its just menopause!

I truly believe that there are millions of women out there with "fibromyalgia" who are just simply just taking too much synthroid... if 1.25 is the full replacement dose why would anyone be taking 1.65?

I am not a dr but i have come to see that they never suspect this medicine for the harm it can do.Part of this is that it is the most prescribed medicine in the country and the company who makes it is very powerful. And if you think that drug companies care if their meds make you sick than you should read about the Delcon shield and how the makers knew that the string wicked germs up into the uterus and they sold it and hid the results! I was not able to have children thanks to the good makers of this product.

so back to synthroid, I was taking .1 of synthroid with my numbers in the normal range and i had constipation frequency , muslce spasm in my calves, hair falling out , fatigue irritability , shortness of breath with anxiety... over a few weeks i moved my dose down( with email to dr) to a spilt dose of .025 in the am then 12 hours later .025 in the evening and ALL of the symptoms WENT AWAY! my advice to anyone who has the symptoms above is to tell their dr that they want to on a trail basis see if their symptoms are alleviated by less medication. If your dr says no ,FIND A NEW DR. , these are quilty of life issues and many drs are to busy to elp you titrate your dose , dont give up , you are only here once and you can get rid of the symptoms!!!

I've been taking Synthroid since January. I've had problems with magnified heartbeat, shortness of breath, taking longer than average to recover from streuous physical activity, headaches and low blood pressure. I don't know how many of these are related to taking Synthroid but I've been having more problems with these sorts of things since I started taking it.

PLease be careful. I have been on a suppression therapy dose of synthroid for over 8 yrs. I had thyroid cancer and my endocrinologist said I needed to keep my tsh between .3-5.6. For the last yr I have been feeling awful. My heart rate was arnd 145, I had shortness of breath, muscle aches, hair falling out, could barely eat but I gained about 30 lbs because I was swelling up from edima. I had almost every symptom of being hyperthyroid. My endo said I ran on high test!! I thought I was going crazy. I was on 2mcgs of synthroid. My tsh level became .009 and then became non-exsistent(.oooo) I now have dialated cardiomyopathy, and congestive heart failure.
So if you are not on the correct dose you can have very serious side effects. Make sure your levels are checked on a regular basis. If you are not feeling right make sure someone , like a dr listens to you and hears your symptoms. I had repeated ly told my dr how I was feeling and he said I needed to be suppressed. to prevent cancer returning, well after almost dying from heart failure how suppressed should someone be????? Now My entire live is suppressed....

My sun has suffered from three years of age with stomach pain and discomfort uppon eating he is now 12 years old. We have seen many doctors all of whom are very vague. His blood work consistantly comes back with low amylase and lipase. Yet they dont see any need for further investigation. I have been told he has a sensitive stomach. As a mother I see more. I live with him and see him every day. He eats very little, (i think it still hurts) he says he's not in pain anymore. At nine he was still thr...
