was put on toprol 25mgs. one year ago by my heart doctor, for tachycardia which only happened after stress. soon thereafter i developed a numbness in the toes of both feet. i saw my my intrenist who didnt know what it was from. i left the country and was livinf abroad until aug 07. while ther the paresthesia of my toes got worse and started traveling up my foot and half of my calf. saw my internist and was advised to see a neurolgist. he put me thru a series of blood test and an emg. all came up negative. went back to the internist and asked her to review my records from sept 2006. first thing she noticed was that i had been started on toprol. she told me one of the side effects is paresthesia of the feet and or hands, and advised me to cut the dose in half for a few weeks and then in half again in a effort to wean me off of it. its been only 3 days since i began to cut down and already the numbness is starting to decrease. has any one else experienced this? does it go entirely away? please write. hopefull

I HAVE BEEN ON TOPROL FOR 5 YEARS SINCE MY FATHER AND MOTHER HAVE PASSED. BOTH HAD HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND I HAVE TWO SIBLINGS WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. BOTH SIBLINGS HAVE HAD HEART ATTACKS. ONE SIBLING HAS CHF THE OTHER REFUSES TO GO BACK TO DOCTORS TO GET EVALUATED FOR MEDS.
ANYWAY - MY SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN VERY SLEEPY SOON AFTER TAKING, VIRTIGO, COLD FEET AND HANDS, SLEEP IS SOMETIMES INTERRUPTED BY DREAMS, WEIGHT GAIN HAS BEEN 15 POUNDS OVER MY ORIGINAL WEIGHT (NUMEROUS DIETS DON'T HELP). I AM HAVING DOUBLE VISION AND HAVE BEEN FOR 2 YRS - I HAVE HAD MRI'S/MRA'S ULTRASOUNDS, FLORESENE TEST - MY MUSCLES HAVE BECOME WEAK IN BOTH EYES TO THE POINT THEY THINK I MAY HAVE MYASTHENIAGRAVIS DISEASE - BLOOD TEST WILL CONFIRM WHETHER OR NOT BUT THAT RESULT IS 2 WKS AWAY. I HAD TO BE PUT ON ZOLOFT TWICE AND COULDN'T TAKE IT DUE TO ANXIETY ATTACKS WHILE DRIVING IT ALSO LOWERED MY PULSE BELOW 44. PULSE IS NOW AT 56 WITHOUT ZOLOFT. WHILE ON ZOLOFT I HAD REALLY CRAZY DREAMS EVERY NIGHT. I STILL HAVE PANIC OR ANXIETY ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE WHEN I AM DRIVING AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO RECOUP. I HAVE LIMITED MEMORY SOMETIMES. SEEMS LIKE SHORT TERM IS RARELY THERE.

I am sitting here is shock as I read the posts here. I have been taking Toprol XL for about 5 years now. It was 50MG and went up to 100MG when I had some heart arrythmias. Except for some dizziness at first no other side effects were noticed. For some reason my cardiologist switched me to me metprolol. I am currently scheduled for colonoscopy, a look into my stomach as well as blood test and stool test and on a strict diet.. why?, because I have been having serious gastro problems for 2 months now. (Diarrea, gas, stomach pain, blood )I told m first gastro guy about my meds and he said Metoprolol would not cause it. Yet I have just read here and on a side affect site, that gastro problems happen to 5 out of 100 people!!! This problem started very soon after I switched meds. Yesterday I skipped m meds accident. I went 48 hours without meds. NO problems! I took m meds last night and this morning my stomach is in turmoil. Tomorrow I cut my meds in half. Then call my cardio guy and change back to Toprol. There is an obvious difference in the drugs.
