Well I went to pick up my RX for my birth control refill of Ortho-Tricyclen Lo today that I've been on for about 5-6 yrs now and was given the generic Tri-Lo Sprintec. After reading all these posts, I'm skeptical to start on it. I fear getting acne and gaining weight, gaining boobage not so much (but you usually do if you gain weight). Any thoughts on what to do. I already opened up the package looking for information and ingredients, but what do to. Should I go back tomorrow and ask for the regular and just pay extra?

Please share your thought asap.

Thanks

JJ

****Are you having severe headaches, vision problems, dizziness, ear pain, nausea?? If so, you may be experiencing what my daughter did. Please, please seek immediate treatment from your physician and request a CT or MRI. This is the only way to detect blood clots. Unfortunately, my daughter did not have that chance. She was 18 years old. I do NOT want to scare anyone! I want to raise awareness of the side effects and prevent any of you going through what my daughter did. Listen to your body and go with your gut. If something doesn't feel right, you need to get it checked out. You may need to be very persistent with your doctors too. Don't give up & give in to them. If you are having any of the side effects I listed above daily, you need to follow-up with your physician immediately!!****

I've been using birth control for nearly 8 years now. I've never noticed a major weight gain other then what is normal for a growing girl (14 -22) I gained some weight on my transition from High school to college and I expected to gain a little weight going from unmarried to married (which I did) but I changed to Tri-Sprintec a while ago (sometime after I got married I'm guessing about 8-12 months ago) and over the past year I've put on nearly 80lbs I can admit some of this is probably from working midnights and not eating properly but over the past 4 months I have changed how much I eat (only about 1/2 of what I ate before and I eat more small meals then I did back then) and I stopped drinking coffee and all Sodas but I haven't lost a single pound actually I think I've went up about 10lbs in the last 5 months. I've started exercising (walking, bike riding, and jogging) but still nothing. I'm debating on getting off Tri-Sprintec because of everything I've heard and the fact that all my life i've struggled with my weight but NOTHING like the past year. I've put on 80lbs since I got married and I figured I would put on some but 80lbs in one year... its never been this bad before.

My husband is ticked because my sex drive is down to nothing and this started about the time that I changed pills but at the time I attributed that to stress and job/schedule changes but the more I read everyone else review the more things are starting to click into place.

This pill DOES NOT shorten your period all my other birth controls have shortened it at LEAST 2 days but with this I'm on anywhere from 7-9 days which really kills me. Watch out for this side effect!!!

I just started taking it a little over a week ago. My doctor seemed really half assed in prescribing it. She prescribed it to me stating that it would regulate my periods, which I haven't had in almost 3 months. I've taking blood tests, urine tests and am not pregnant, so she felt that birth control was the best option to make my period come back. I now know that there were many other options for "making my period come back". I have had a bit of a increased appetite with Tri Sprintec. The first day I took it, I felt like my head was going to explode. I was moody, on the verge of tears and had the biggest head ache ever. That was a little over a week ago. This is my 3rd day with the 2nd set of pills in the pack and I'm feeling really nauseous. My boobs are killing me. I can't afford to gain any weight and honestly, all these bad reviews are scaring the crap out of me.

I had been taking Tri-Sprintec for about 4 months. I turned into a very odd person, i was pissed at everything, every tiny little thing would make me cry and i finally ran out of excuses for crying and was thinking was seriously wrong with me. I would break down bawling at work just because I didn't want to go to work that day. It was extreme. Then it actually turned a little bit into depression. It caused major problems with me and my boyfriend. He thought that I wasn't happy with him and I thought that I was crazy for getting mad about everything but I couldn't help it. I was also bleeding for about 10 days and it was heavy heavy bleeding.
I gained about 7 pounds and i ate like crazy, even when I wasn't hungry at all. The only good thing that I noticed was my zits went away for good. I have never had bad acne but a few zits here and there. I don't think I have one zit for the 4 months I was on Tri-Sprintec.
After 4 months being on Tri-Sprintec I switched to Sprintec. I noticed allll the emotional problems that I was having have gone away in an instant. I have only been on Sprintec for about 4-5 days but I haven't cried at all, I have not got into a fight with my boyfriend, I am not sad at all. I haven't noticed anything different about my periods though because I have only been on it for less than a week. I am amazed about the different emotional response to things and very satisfied because that was the main reason why I switched to a different kind.
I used Depo-prevera shot for about 8 years before I went onto the pill. The depo shot was convenient, cheap, and amazing! I never experienced weight gain, mood swings, or anything and it messed up my period so i barely had a period for 3 years. I didn't complain though. Then after the depo-shot I started taking pills because I wanted to decrease the risk of osteoperosis the depo shot causes. The first birth control pill I took was Lybrel and it was amazing, never had any problems, but it was also amazingly expensive so i switched the Tri-Sprintec and here I am on Sprintec now. Thanks for listening to my journey!

I was reading the comments on Tri-Sprintec. I have been on Tri-Sprintec for almost 3 years now and I do not have any of the symptoms that other people have experienced. I was told by my doctor that different birth control medications will affect you differently. He originally put me on birth control to clear up my acne. Tri-sprintec worked for me. I was a virgin when I got married at 25 years of age and I was still on tri-sprintec. I have not gotten pregnant on the medication and I have not had any bad symptoms. For those of you who have had bad reactions... I would take my doctor's advice and find another birth control that works for your body.

It amazes me to read all of these posts. I have been on Birth Control for just over 10 years, and in early November, due to a change in health insurance (SURPRISE, SURPRISE), I had to switch to $7 Tri Sprintec, I have been tracking the incredibly obvious side effects and today is my final straw. In 10 years I have never had any of the issues I have been having. I occasionally have mild to moderate headaches, since November, I have had intense migraines every couple of weeks, I was actually in bed tonight at 6pm, because I was feeling so awful. About 2 weeks in, I also become a raging hormonal maniac, I cry, get angry, and I mean angry (in a scary way) and am unreasonable. My sex drive is gone, and I know this is taking a toll on my relationship of over 2 years. With all of that great crap is the 5 pound weight gain and the early periods. In the past I got my period on a Wednesday and it was gone by Saturday, now 2 weeks???
Anyway, I am going to contact my ob/gyn in the a.m., I hope there is something better out there. This drug is just awful.

I have been taking Tri-Sprintec for 3 months. I switched because my insurance does not cover birth control and I was paying $50 a month compared to $9. But it is not worth saving the money. Since taking Tri-Spritec I have had a 7 pound weight gain, I have terrible mood swings and have feelings of depression. There are days when I can't even stand myself. I get angry at everything and everyone. I also have no sex drive and have days where I just want to be alone. I am going to stop taking these pills they are not worth it.

I just got off of Ortho Tri-cyclen lo, and it worked really well for me, but we didn't have insurance so we couldn't afford to get it after the 2 sample pacs. I am now on Tri-Sprintec, for 6 days now, and my boobs already feel like they are about to fall off. I mean, they've hurt before, but really. This is ridiculous. I guess it's worth it, but I don't know. I feel really nauseated lately. I guess it's because this is a new form of Birth Control, but yeah. It really sucks. I am also depressed and not caring now. Besides my boobs wanting to fall off and being tired and depressed, the pill is great. I guess it's something I have to deal with. All birth controls have side effects.

I have not gotten acne, I have gained a little weight, and I haven't gone out in the sun yet to see what it does to my face. But if it gives me sunspots, I quit.

I've been on Tri-Sprintec for a month and a half. My husband is going crazy due to my mood swings. Of course he gets the brunt of it compared to anybody else. One moment I am fine and the next I am yelling because I dropped the butter on the floor. Ten minutes later I've forgotten this instance and I'm crying for no apparent reason. I normally have normal to dry skin, and no acne (to very few) Lately my face is very itchy and I've had a lot of breakouts. I work in Law Enforcement, and have no problems with being straight forward and pushy, but lately I don't have it in me, I feel very depressed and a lot of self doubt. I also don't have a big appetite, I feel nauseas, and I do take the pill with food. I've also gained 10 pounds in the last month and a half. I don't know if this is a coincidence or if it's side effects from the birth control. I have also had a lot of headaches lately.

I posted a question to anyone who used Tri-Sprintec before, but now it's been several months & I'd like to let everyone else know how it's worked for me! Tri-Sprintec has been the best birth control I've ever taken. I have been on other birth controls over the years, and up to this point Yasmin was good but I still had some side effects. I've just started my fourth month on Tri-Sprintec, and I feel more like myself again. I don't have any crazy mood swings, my skin has cleared up, my periods are regular again & my appetite has gone back to normal. I recommend Tri-Sprintec to anyone who is looking for an affordable & reliable birth control (it's offered at the Wal-Mart pharmacy for $9 a month if you don't have insurance.)
