I have been on prozac for about two years as well as xanax. I have been on 2400mg of trileptal a day for about 8 months. My doc just put me on 200mg of lamictal about 2 months ago. I have tried about every combination of drugs in the past ten years. I feel a difference in my moods. But i have noticed if i take the trileptal and lamictal at the same time. I feel extremely groogy and out of it. I also experience sevee vertigo. I have started spreading them out from my doctors advice, hopefully things could get better.

Sensitivity to sun exposure, dizziness about 30 minutes after BID dosage of 450mg. I am taking t-leptal following neurosurgery 12 yrs ago. I am experiencing ED and impotency, too, and wonder if they are drug induced or only age related(60).
I've seen only one reference to this. Any others? Have you?

I hate it! My doctor prescribed 1200mg a day. When I followed this dosage for a week (approximately 2 years ago) I was so lethargic, my tongue felt as if it weighed 10 pounds plus it was numb and I was the most unproductive individual! I stopped taking 1200 and started with 600; the same side effects occurred. Now, I take it every few days which really sucks because the manic monster rears its ugly head. At this point, I have to do my own research to find the right medication for my bipolar. I do know that I cannot continue this medication. I thought it was going to help control the severe angry outburst; I've broken one of our ceiling lamps by throwing my shoes. It's like being trapped within myself. I hope any and everyone who posts to this and even those out there that have bipolar, finds the right medication. It is so incredibly difficult not knowing which way my mood will take me; what journey: being ok one minute and the next, feeling terrible.

Ive been on Trileptal for for 6yrs now. Im at 1200mg a day. the Drug has always made me tired I have to take it at night otherwise I fall a sleep to often during the day. have never experienced the hair loss. But have always experienced the metallic taste. Lately have also noticed that when I get angry, nervous or anxious I get this weird burnt plastic smell stuck in my nose that stays for hours. I also have had a gangland gland syst that comes and goes in my left wrist. I cant have it removed cause it disappears by the time I can see a doctor. my appetite comes and goes in cycles. Sometimes I cant put any thing down, other times I cant stop eating.I get aches in my ankle and back all the time. I should also metion that im on effexor xr 600mg.has any one else noticed the burnt plastic smell? or now how to stop it and the back aches and anke akes? I know I need to stay on it cause it truly helps me. I honestly don't think I would be alive to write on this board had it not been for effexorxr and Trileptal

I have been on Trileptal for about 2 years now at 750 mg. However, Only recently I began to have a lot of hair loss. In fact, I now have a bald patch at my temple. I am only thirty years old, and otherwise in good health. I'm trying to determine weather or not this drug is responsible for my hair loss. I'm extremely reluctant to go off of it because it is the first medication I've taken (for bipolar 2 & insomnia) that has helped. Does anyone know if it could be related?

I've been on Trileptal, 150 mg, for about a month now, and I am SO itchy! My back, face, scalp, and head is constantly itching! I experience a lot of bodily discomfort as well. Anything rubbing against or touching my hip is agonizing, and my back aches constantly. Also, my once perfect skin is all broken out in pimples :(

I've been on Trileptal for about a month now and am up to 900 mg, though I expect to come down from this dose because of the dizziness it causes. I am also troubled by a numb tongue, bad taste in my mouth, and swollen lips. One thing I'm experiencing that I haven't read about yet is an increase in the white part of certain fingernails--the white area at the tips of both ring fingers has doubled. At first I thought this might be due to kidney disease, but now I'm wondering if it's simply due to decreased blood supply to my fingers, which do feel a little numb. I'd appreciate anyone's feedback on this.

I've been taking trileptal for a only a couple of days, but I've had an immediate onset of night terrors in addition to having constant joint pain. I've noticed that these are commonly listed side effects.
From reading the posted comments, I noticed that many people reported experiencing losing sensation in their tongue. After taking geodon for five years, I have started experiencing something similar in that I lose feeling in my tongue, but it also appears to swell or otherwise make it difficult or impossible to breathe.
I've taken cogentin (sp?) to help with this, but it hasn't really made a difference. The numb tongue and inability to breathe seem to be brought on by anxiety and although are similar to anxiety attacks, tend to be a little scarier as my tongue literally blocks off my esophogus (sp) making it (sometimes) impossible to breathe.
I started taking trileptal to eventually be weened off the geodon as not being able to breathe isn't really an option. Can somebody p.m. or post a reply to let me know whether the loss of sensation in their tongue is just that, or if it is accompanied by trouble breathing?
Thanks!

Trileptal causes me to feel ill for a couple days after becoming sunburned. It almost feels as if they don't work as well for the next couple days. I get extremely upset stomach aches, nausea, and constantly feel the aura I get before having a seizure (but don't have any). I also become sunburned easier. It's been a huge adjustment being that I work outside.

I have been on this medication for about 3-4 months now, and I have NEVER passed out or fainted before in my life and I have done it three times already since I've been on this medicine. I have had an increased amount of hair loss . But other than feeling very dizzy, then nauseas, then hot flashes and then passing out.... not too many other side effects. Has anyone else experienced this?

Was taking 300mg BID for seizure disorder (complex-partial with occasional progression to generalized) but had to stop because of severity of side effects: confusion, inability to remember words, depression, inability to concentrate, increased frequency of "aura" sensation/absence seizures, fatigue, frequent migraines, short-term memory loss (seems to have been related to medication rather than seizure disorder), dizziness, flushing, "drunk" feeling, insomnia (not sure if due to drug), loss of libido, occasional suicidal thought, etc. (There are others, but because of memory/concentration problems, can't remember them!)

I have been slowly increasing my dose of trileptal over a week and a half of taking it- and I am only on 450 mg right now- But I have an extreme light sensitive headache for at least a week now; along with lowsy appetite; numb tongue; insomnia; extreme fatige during the day- massive lethargy; and a smashing frontal headache- alot like a csf tear headache. I am borderline personality- possibly bi polar- and also have the intense seizure like muscle jerks... Is this normal? I don't feel as moody- as the ability to focus on such an emotion is not possible- it is as if I am numb...Please help....

I started Trileptal a little over a month ago. I was on Depakote for close to 13 years but I couldn't take the weight gain. I think I have more energy on the Tripletal. I also seem to be more optimistic. I also think I don't ruminate as much. Unfortunately, I get headaches every afternoon. I'm also forgetting things (e.g. the names of people I've known for years, places I've been to, word combinations). I know I need to be on a mood stablizer. I'm bipolar and have been hospitalized 3 times. I know I need to be on a mood stablizer. I just wish there was a medicine with fewer side effects.

I was prescribed trileptal after having surgery for trigeminal neuralgia. I underwent a microvascular decompression surgery so the side effects are far less than the pain I felt prior to surgery. although if I dont take the medication as presribed down to the hour the pain comes back so its like 6 in on and half dozen of the other, oh I almost forgot I also am very forgetful after being presribed this med.

I, too, am finding my normally thick hair is showing up more in my brush and on the floor. I am a 46yo woman with Crohn's disease on top of being bipolar II rapid cycling. The only thing I can attribute the hair loss to at this point is the Trileptal because I began having this symptom only after I started it. I have a very strict diet to control my Crohn's disease without meds and that hasn't changed. Besides going off of Trileptal, does anyone have any countermeasures for the hair loss?

Hair loss
I have not seen this listed anywhere but since taking trileptal my normally very thick hair is falling out by the brush FULL and is quite thin now. I can not think of anything else new that I am doing that would cause this hair loss. Has anyone else experienced this?

My son has been takiing tripeltol for over a year, he is only 11 yeard old; he has been expresing extreme aggresive behavior in the last year or so. He can not communicate very well what he is feeling, but he is in extreme disconfort (unhappy, aggressive, mad, grauchy, etc.) I am starting to believe that trileptol is the cause; he is also taking geodon and abilify, which are suppose to control bal behavior. However, nothing is helping. Am I in the rigth track believing that trileptol is the cause of his bad behavior?

I was taking Trileptal for mood swings. After hearing a lot of great things about it, I took it for only a few days before I started having Tardive Dyskinesia side effects-- for me, this was a twisting kind of pain in my neck and back. It made it almost impossible for me to sleep. I finally got Cogentin to stop the twisting muscle cramps.
Maybe not everyone will get this type of cramping muscle pain; I get it with some neuroleptics since I took Haldol for years, and it is notorious for causing Tardive Dyskinesia. I don't usually have the TD, only flares up when i take certain meds.
good luck to all, I was hopeful Trileptal would work for me since so many people state it helps them and has few side effects.
I also thought I ate more while taking it. :-(
