I've taken Ultracet for about 4 years almost every day, morning and night time and sometimes in the afternoon depending how severe my pain is. I take 2 pills each time. It does help take the edge off my pain. My doctor said my Fibromyalgia is as bad as it can get, plus I have severe arthritis through my whole body. I can hardly stand up straight and trouble walking. Ultracet seems to help better then Ultram for me. I'm concerned about how long I've taken Ultracet and damaging my liver or other organs. Does anyone know how long you can continue using Ultracet before it does damage. I'm very concerned about that issue because it does somewhat help with pain. I haven't noticed any side effects using Ultracet. If anyone knows how long you can stay on Ultracet without any harm, please post your knowledge or experience. Should I also have my blood monitored periodically?

I've been taking Ultrcet for about a month for shingles. Frankly, I hurt so bad to start with that all I wanted to do was sleep and that's what two Ultrcets let me do. The side affects initially were nausea and loss of appetite. Once I decided to eat regularly, hungry or not, the nausea has gone away. I've had to work and found that I can only take a half a tab every three to four hours during the day and still function. I've evidently built up a tolerance to them now because I have to take two about nine at nite and another two about two in the morning. I appreciate the thoughts about tapering off rather then quiting cold turkey. I've been non-social too but it's mainly because I don't feel good anyhow. The pain from the shingles is unrelenting and I have to stay on top of the pain meds, making sure the dosage is adequate without using too much. The initial outbreak went away and I still have all the pain and now I think I'm getting another outbreak. Seeing the doctor next week. Not a drug I'd want to take on a regular basis but it sure helps for now.

Ultracet was given to me for chronic back pain. I have tried Hydrocodone, Dilaudid, Demerol, Fioricit, you name it, I tried it. I have to admit that this has been a painstaking problem. How do you treat pain using Narcotics and then not get classified as an addict? I am angry how this drug, hydrocodone was pumped into my body for 6 months and then taken away, cold turkey. No discussion on any withdrawals or scale down procedures. Doctors mainly don't care once they have dismissed you as a patient. They don't care to follow through the proper procedures to avoid addiction. Ultracet has now been dumped on me to help with back pain. It works fine but not as well as hydrocodone. Ultracet does give more energy and yet a relaxed state of mind.
