Verapamil Hydrochloride SR and medicine

I started having coughing attacks & constantly have to clear my throat about a month ago. I normally take the capsule 6 P. M. I've been taking this medication about 5 years. This is the only pill I take in the evening. I didn't take the pill one afternoon & I noticed I didn't cough that night. I resumed taking it for the next few evenings & the cough came back the very 1st day I resumed taking it. I haven't taken the medicine since Friday & I haven't had the cough. I did inform my doctor so that he can try me on something else. I could not sleep at night for the cough & clearing my throat.
