After taking this I found it also worked in getting rid of my cough and made me drowsy, but I found I could not sleep...I was itchy like others have noted, but not tortured by it. It was the drunk like effect that really bothered me. Even when I woke up the next morning to go to class, I felt like I shouldn't drive because the world was spinning and I felt anxious.

The worst part, neither my doc or pharmacist warned me about the intensity of this drug.

After suffering a week with a nasty cold I went to my doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis. As well as an antibiotic I also got Vi-Q-Tuss for my cough. I took it as ordered at bedtime. At first I was feeling a bit tipsy, but it did stop the cough. I started to feel drowsy so I went to bed and as some have complained....I cannot sleep. I also seem to have a side effect that I haven't seen here yet....I am VERY cold. Freezing to the point of shivering uncontrollably and nothing seems to warm me. I was under many blankets, mind you I live in Florida and it is not yet cold outside despite the time of year, in fact we had the air conditioner on during the day today. But, thankfully, no nausea or vomiting. Even though these side effects are a bit bothersome, I suppose it is a small price to pay to stop that painful cough I was dealing with, so long as the effects don't worsen. I will however ask to try something different next time I need a cough medicine. There has got to be something else I can take that will work at stopping the symptoms without causing such weird adverse effects.

My husband took this medicine after coughing continuously for over a week. Neither one of us was getting any sleep. We tried everything before he went to the doctor. He was prescribed Vi-Q-Tuss. It worked great. Nothing else worked. You have to drink a lot of water for the medicine to work right. It helps the guafenesin do its job. You should not take this medicine unless you are really sick and regular cough suppressants don't work because it is narcotic and can be addictive.

My wife took only one dose of Vi-Q-Tuss before bed as prescribed. Very shortly after taking it she started feeling itchy all over the place. The itchiness got progressively worse and then she started becoming delirious and started twitching uncontrollably. It was then that we decided to go to the ER. They gave her an IV with a mega-dose of Benadryl and Pepcid as well as some serious Steroids in order to stabilize her heart rate (which was very high) and to help the itching to subside. She described it as torture. Even with the IV medications and the prescribed antihystamines and steroids, she still suffered from an ever-constant itching sensation. It helped her cough, but it did so at a hell of a price. This stuff is NASTY. DO NOT TAKE IT.

Its like drinking a shot of weak schnapps. Doesnt really alleviate the cough or make anything cough up easier, but it does mellow you out. No nausea, no dizzyness. I think the people that had those problems maybe had an allergic reaction.

My husband and I took this before bed and soon after we both became extremely itchy all over. Then about two hours later we became extremely dizzy and nauseas. I threw up for about 2 hours. Also broke out in sweats and fever. I could not move or open my eyes without being sick. Finally when that subsided, I began to experience shortness of breath - it felt like my throat was closing up and I could do nothing about it. It was the scariest experience I've ever been through. I would rather cough all night long then EVER go through that again. I seriously thought I was going to die! My husband called a CVS pharmacist and found that we would survive but to drink tons of water to help alleviate symptoms. Needless to say, the next morning I was still extremely dizzy and nauseas. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE!!!

Both my wife and I were prescribed Vi-Q-Tuss. It stopped the cough when we both took it the first morning. I had no noticable side effects, my wife said she was nauseas and dizzy. We both took it before going to bed, and both of us woke with nausea, dizziness, headache, and sweating that lasted most of the morning. We're not going to take this anymore, I would rather choke with the cough. Instead I took, and recomend, Fishermans Friend cough drops to help with the cough..... if you can stand the taste.

This medicine made me nauseaus as well - my doctor suggested taking benedryll about 20 minutes before taking the medicine again. I got very sleepy but it worked, no nausea and no headache from it. I still wouldn't advise moving around too much, but then again if you're taking this stuff - you should be sick to the point where you should keep yourself in bed anyway.

Taking it makes me feel like I did long ago when I was drunk. 'Cotton mouth' and my mouth always feels dry (even though I've drank quite a bit of water like the medicine indicated).

First afternoon:
At first it worked great, the dizziness was the same as before I started on V-Q-TUSS, my coughing became controllable, and I wasn't drowning in flem.

First evening: Extreme nausea, disorientation, sleeplessness, and tossed my cookies 3 times.

Next morning: I was very week again and VERY tired from not being able to sleep, and choking on my own flem. So I decided to take a dose (not realizing this was part of my problem). As soon as it hit my stomach I realized that this was the source of my nausea.
10 minutes later I was puking my guts out again.

Next attempt: NEVER!

Was initially prescribed this in November '05 and had no problems. When I got a bad cough again now, I pulled it out and although it was effective in reducing my cough, after the third dose, I was very nauseated and vomited. Tried it for one more dose - same effect. No more!

This medication gave me a terrible headache. As long as I was laying down I was ok, but as soon as I stood up I became extremely clammy and started throwing up. It helped with my cough but not to the extent I would ever take it again.

It tastes terrible but if you drink enough of it, it makes you really mellow and you can just chill and nothing bothers you. You wont care if your coughing or at least you won't notice if you are coughing. They should rename this "Happiness" medicine.

"This patients medication has just been replaced with nasty syrup water. Let's see if he notices." Absolutely nothing. Is this a placebo medication? No nausea, no dizziness, but most importantly, no cough relief - just a disgusting taste in my mouth. Dr said if nothing else, it will help me sleep. Uh, no, it's not good for that either. Maybe I'm resistant to this drug?

Uncontrollable dizziness, worst nausea ever, high temperature, sleepiness, all the bad stuff. Even though it did make the sore throat better, I would never, ever take it again.

Within an hour of taking Vi-q-tuss I became very nauseated, weak, sweaty and dizzy. The lasted about two hours, but the rest of the day I felt slightly nauseated with a headache. I did stop coughing for about three to four hours. The night before I had taken Vi-q-tuss at bedtime and did not have any side effects. I probably will not take anymore.

Will vomit food up taken within 1 hour of taking Vi-Q-tuss. Doesn't matter if it's before of after you took the meds. But, if you ate recently it will come back up within 2 hours or you'll feel extremely queezy until you do throw it up.
