I have taken Vicodin for 12 years now after open heart surgery. My chest bone did not heal right and in 2002 had injuries to both my knees. My doctor took me off of the medication last week since all my heart medications that I take along with this is damaging my liver. I will tell all who is reading this that I have been taking 750mg 5 times a day for 12 years and I am having a tremendous amount of trouble coming off of this drug. I have not slept in days and all you can do is think about the drug. Diarrhea is a another problem with not taking it and major cold spells and sweating. Anyone that can avoid this I hope you do. Because of the damage to my liver I had no choice but to stop cold turkey, I hope and pray that these symptoms go away soon......

I have taken the generic Vicodin, Hydrocodone, for 8 years for chronic pack pain. Along with the Hydrocodone, I take Soma, a muscle relaxant. I take them together, usually 3 to 5 of both a day. I know this sounds like a lot, but after 8 years, I am so used to it that it has become part of my every day. I know I am addicted to both because when I run out, I can hardly wait to get my refill. I have pain and I get irritable. My doctor checks my liver regularly and I have had no other side effects. I am surprised to read about those with constipation as it gives me diarrhea. I also sleep well on the medication. Mine is an unusual case as I have had surgery (Thoracic) and have been under both a neurologist and cardiovascular doctor's care the entire time. I pray that anyone taking this medication learns how to use it and not abuse it. It truly helps you to live a normal life, however it can become all-encompassing if you take too much.

I took Vicodin a couple of years ago for severe back pain. Since my accident three years ago I have taken Vicodin, Percocet, Morphine Sulphate and Oxycontin. Believe it or not the only one that I got addicted to was the Vicodin. I went through withdrawal symtoms one weekend when I ran out of it and my wife was holding me in her arms all night long like I was a heroin addict or something. It works but BE CAREFUL!

I take vicodin with soma. If I stay up and wait for relief of pain, pain begins to subside and I pick up dirty glasses left out and head for the kitchen. I begin cleaning my kitchen--dishwasher emptied then filled, counter scrubbed, cupboards wiped down, fridge wiped, floor swept and mopped...it's as if I'd taken amphetamines...off to bed I go and can't sleep til around 3am. My pains gone and I get a clean kitchen out of the deal...waking up for work is another story, though. Don't take too many vicodin with somas or visa-versa....unless your kitchen needs a good cleaning!

I've taken Vicodin 500mgx3 or less if needed for 7 yrs. I truly advise to follow the labels that are on the bottle, if food..take it w/food, if H2o...take it w/H20, I can't tell anyone how important this tiny label is. I have done just that for 7 yrs and the Vicodin has been working fine...believe me sometimes I run-out and get it 2 or 3 days later and I'm fine. I have 3 heri. disks in my back and scadica. I receive a complete ckup on my kidneys and liver which thank God are fine.....I drink about 10- 20 oz. of water a day to keep me clean and my urine is almost clear as H2o, doc says great!!

When I first took Vicodin it was for the pain after childbirth. Then it was a car accident. Then it was for a sever burn I got on my leg. Takes the pain away alright, but it does become addictive!!!! I had no side effects. When the bottle was empty I just wanted more. Now Im fine. Thank God.

I've been prescribed Vicodin for chronic back and muscle pain. I 've been taking this medication for over a year. I experience NO side effects and although I am probably addicted, one tablet (10mg) daily allows me to live a normal life and carry on my normal activities. I hope that this drug is not causing damage t my liver or kidneys or any other organs. I dread the day that the Doctor takes me of the medication and then not only will I have pain (unbearable at times) I will also have to endure the withdrawls.
I read where people become constipated. I have to ask myself, could it be their diets or other medications causing this problem. For now, I am satisified with the results that I am getting and can only hope that the medication continues to work for me. D.O. Kentucky March 23,2005

You feel like your dieing and everyone is against you. So please ppl...if you don't need vidodin, please don't take it.

I also get nasty migraine headaches when taking this. It seems to happen most when I split the piill (they are scored for this). It gives me some pain relief for what I'm taking it for (abdominal pain) but really does seem to bring these left-sided horrible migraines fairly often. ugh.

Every time I take Vicodin, it gives me a nasty migraine. It took me a few surgeries to figure this out. I'd be headache free before and after surgery, but I'd invariably develop a headache after I got home and start taking these meds. And this headache will not go away until after I stop taking them. So much for taking a pain med and having it give me more pain.

Aside from the constipation and and the constant sweating, the worst part about vicodin is the withdrawals. It is the worst drug I have ever been addicted to. I thank God that I have to power to deal with the pains and constant hell the withdrwals caused me,and with a STRONG mind you can beat the physical hell that will torment you for weeks

take vicodin, nothing can go wrong. You will be completely fine if you take antidepressants or anything else that gets you faded.

i have been taking vicodin for 2 years and have abused it rather extensively.
-- By 40vicsdaily | Reply | Private Message me1 year ago i started taking somas also. i would take 25- 7.50mg tabs while i was at work throughout a normal day, when i would leave work i would pop 8 vics and 5 350mg somas..........on weekends about 40 vics and 10-15 somas a day.this is the type of abuse that causes constipation. 2 weeks without a bowel movement was not un common. So now the hard part i decided to stop taking these things and so far ive gone 11 days i went thru all of the symptoms you guys have listed and now i have no idea what to do about the diarrhea which will not stop.ive taken over the counter anti diarrhea meds, went to the hospital got an iv, had a test which came back showing my liver was swollen which turned out not to be a big deal because the damage is not to a vital point yet.but anyways the main thing i cant get over is the diarrhea....heres the weird thing if i eat a lot of food i don't poop but if i don't i have diarrhea all day. sorry this is so sloppy and porely punctuated but im in a rush when i figure out what will help me with this problem i post it
