My son has been taking viravan daily and has developed blood in his stool. I don't know if it could be caused by this but he does not take any other medicines. I would like to know if anyone has had anything similar happen.

My 3 yr old was put on viravan 1 tsp 2x a day. He turned into a monster child. I would be very cautious with theis med!!!!It is very potent! I check the label after I noticed how wild he became and it said only 1/2 tsp for his age. Well, he had been on it for 3-4 days, so I just stopped it all together. His cough is back, but no way will I put him through that again ...ever!! He is still crazy from it. Very aggressive and no reaction to correctioon what so ever. He is usually a very well mannoer child, and I hope thiss goes away soon!! GOOD LUCK!

We had our son ( 30 months)on Viravan for two days and he was fine the first night and the second night he was up once an hour and so were we. We are not going to continue this med. I know this must be a good med or the doctor wouldn't have given it to my son but sleep heals and I won't go one more night like last night.

My 16 month old son Cody has been on Viravan for 3 weeks now, and he has problems sleeping at night. He wakes up every hour! His doctor has cut back from giving him 1/2 teaspoonin the morning and at night to morning only. He is sleeping a little better but his symptoms are coming back. The medicine worked better for him with the two doses a day then with the one, but both doses interfers with his and my sleep. If you have any advise I would greatfully use it!

My son is 3 and he had sported a flemmy cough so long that Doctor gave him Viravan. He warned me that its may make him hyper or alter his mood. Well, at 1/2 teaspoon at 8PM, he was still wide awake at 1AM! It doesn't seem to change his mood, even during the day after the morning dose, but no sleep is NO sleep. Yes, this drug keeps my son awake and he still has the cough. Not so good. I wish better luck for other children.
