After about three weeks of taking the generic form of Welbutrin, I too broke out in a horrible case of hives. They started on my trunk and migrated all over my body. After two miserable days, I went to a redi med clinic late one night because I couldn't take the itching. The doctor said it wasn't the Wellbutrin, said it might be some type of allergic reaction to something else. They gave me steroid shot and sent me home with a steroid pack of pills to take over the course of a week. Three days later, no sign of the hives going away or becoming less irritated. Found some relief using the Target version of Gold Bond powder and benadryl every four hours. That's when I found this site. I immediately stopped taking the Wellbutrin and guess what? Twelve hours after I skipped my Wellbutrin dose, the hives were 80% gone. Today, 36 hours since the last Wellbutrin pill, the hives are almost all the way gone. This should certainly be listed as a possible side effect! I have never been so miserable in my life with itching!! If you have hives and are on Wellbutrin tell your doctor!

Have been on Cymbalta 30mg daily for a year. Started on Wellbutrin 50mg daily about 6 weeks ago to help with attention deficit. About 4 weeks or so ago I started having occasional muscle cramping in hands and feet. Yesterday I started with twitching of left eye. Last time I had the eye twitching it was the beginning of an allergic reaction to Prozac. I'm thinking even the low dose Wellbutrin may be too much. anyone else had this experience? I'm also starting to notice an increase in anxiety. Not sure if it's due to worrying about the cramping and twitching or the Wellbutrin itself. Any thoughts?

I took Wellbutrin XL for two weeks. After a week and a half I felt very depressed-I was very lethargic and just didn't care about anything. I also wanted to die, which is NOT a symptom of my depression. So I decided to stop taking it. A few days later I started itching like crazy. I had had an allergic reaction to sulfameth earlier in the year and this was exactly like that. This time I didn't fool around with Benedryl and calamine lotion but made a drs appt for the next day. The morning of my appt when I woke up I was not only itching horribly, but had a deep red rash on different parts of my body that would disappear and reappear. My right hand was starting to swell and so was my right eye, just like an earlier poster. By the time I got to the doctor the rash had spread up my chest, over my neck. The nurse freaked out when she saw me! But the straw broke when I was in with the doctor--I had a seizure!!! I thought I had just passed out (which was frightening enough) but she said my eyes had rolled back in my head and I convulsed. I had to have a cat scan which came back fine but I am firmly convinced it was the Wellbutrin, and I was just lucky enough to be in the doctor's office at the time I seized. She had never seen the itching or rash with any of her other Wellbutrin patients, but my brother had experienced the same thing when he took it a few years ago for smoking cessation. If you are itching, go to a doctor immediately for relief! That was over a month ago and I still have occasional itching spells. You just never know how certain medicines will react to your body.

I've been on 300 mg for a while, and am feeling really good. I've lost weight, which has been great! The only strange side effect I'm experiencing is skin irritations on my scalp. Every week I feel like I get a few painful bumps on my head, and then, they go away in a day or two. Some of them are of a fairly decent size. THinking maybe benedryl might help since it does seem like an allergic reaction. I'll check with my doc, but if this is the only side effect, and I feel this good, I'd say I'm pretty happy with it.

I am having the same side effect as Guest, #11307 who asked about the brand vs. generic. (Wellbutrin sr vs. bupropion sr). I was perscribed 150 mg XL and was filled with generic bupropion SR 150. This is my first time taking it so I don't know if the branded one would be different.
I've been taking it for about a month and last week began to have itchy areas on the palms of my hands, my upper back and arms. Oral benadryl was providing relief. However in the last three days I've been suffering actual hives and welts, so I'm going to go off of it until I can talk to my doctor.
I have bi-polar II with ADD and have been on Lamictal and a small dose of Celexa for over a year. Depression got better but not the ADD so he added WB for that. I tried Straterra but it made me feel really wierd.
Other than the hives, I haven't noticed any other side effects from adding WB. I'd really like to find something that can help me with ADD.
Is this an allergic reaction?

felt great, but after 3weeks,I developed the worse case of huge welts on my arms legs feet and hands. My doc gave me a steriod and it cleared up. Will nver take wellbutrin again, the pain and severe itching were too scary for me. Also my doc said that every time you have an allergic reaction it will be far more serious than the first time. ADIOS to wellbutrin.

Took wellbutrin for about 1 year w/no side effects at all. Had
mild depression. Dr. took me off to see how I was. Symptoms
returned so he put me back on 150mg 2 times a day. Today
I had an allergic reaction with hives on my arms, hands, and
stomach. Also had some swelling of the lips. My husband took
me to the ER. Dr. said stop the wellbutrin and put me on
prednisone and benadryl for 5 days. Won't take it again. Had good luck with it, but must have became hypersensitive to it.
Hope to return to zoloft. It worked fine

I am so relieved to see these posts. My husband started Wellbutrin 2 weeks ago. We are at the beach and yesterday he started experiencing itchiness followed by rash and welts that have spread and are huge now. He has them on his legs, under arms, around waist and on feet. This morning his right eye became extremely swollen and now his lips are HUGE.. At first we though an allergic reaction to seaweed until it started getting worse. I googled benadryl and wellbutrin to see if they could be taken together and found this sight. He has also been complaining the last week with chest pains and I see some people also experienced that. Thank you all for sharing for now I can see what is causing it and we are stopping Wellbutrin now.
