Very bad back pain from the waist up after being on it for three weeks. It took five days to go away after I stopped the Xalatan. I had narrow angle glaucoma which was zapped. It is now two years later and I can see just fine without taking any meds. I would never take it again

I've been on Xalatan for 10 months. At first I had only red eyes, but after two months my vision got blurred. So I got new glasses. One month later I needed new glasses again. The cornea began to swell and finally I had a macular edema. After having stopped using the drug, my vision still remained bad.
Why on earth do doctors still prescribe Xalatan???

I have been on Xalatan for 7 months. At first the only side effects were red eyes and a burning sensation. After 4 months my visual acuity dropped dramatically. After 6 months cataract suddenly developed in both eyes. I stopped taking the drug and will soon have cataract surgery.
Xalatan should be forbidden! I don't understand how these drops ever got permission to be given to patients!
Please, don't take this drug. It destroys your eyesight!!!

red eyes, itchiness, occasional pain behind the eye, blurred vision, loss of visual acuity (I have to have new glasses every 2 months) and rapid development of cataract.

Unfortunately, as with all drugs, including the lowly aspirin, there are a myriad of side-effects. There is not a single drug on the market that has no side-effects and almost all have multiple side-effects. Additionally, Western medicine is designed to treat symptoms, rather than treat the cause of the underlying problem. The Western medical establishment, and pharmaceutical industry in particular, profits from illness and has no incentive for patients to receive proactive care or treatment. With that being said, there are often many holistic, homeopathic or ayurvedic treatments for many of society's ailments. This is the thorn in the side of the big pharmaceutical corporations, such as Pfizer, Merck and others. They are working hard to have herbal and other supplements regulated by the paid-off FDA. The big pharma companies spend billions per year in FDA fees and enforcement activities to protect their investments and to prevent others from cutting into their market share--this is why they are so determined to regulate herbal supplements or even have them banned from the marketplace altogether. The other problem is the absurd scare tactics used by the FDA, FBI and the big pharma companies. What they fail to tell uneducated Americans is that companies like Cipla, Ranbaxy and Dr. Reddys have FDA-approved facilities both in the U.S. and in India. Furthermore, these companies supply a vast amount of American drugs, both generic and brand name. These drugs are not "counterfeit," but they may be "misbranded," under certain conditions. Think about it--India is a country with 1 billion people--more than three times the U.S. population. Do you think a multi-billion dollar company like Cipla would compromise its quality or even exist if their drugs were of inferior quality? This company thrives because of stringent quality control which produces superior products that surpass even those of Pfizer's or Merck's.

I had to get on these drops when my eyeballs actually hurt. The pain has went away since I have been on them. I just came here to see what side effects everyone was having, thinking I wasn't having any. Blurred vision? Are these drops the reason I have had to get 3 new pair of glasses in the last year? I get them and they are fine bit in a few months, everything is blurred again.. I can't afford 3 to 4 pair of new glasses every year! I am constantly rubbing my eyes because suddenly things go blurry, then after awhile, they will clear up... eventually, I know they will quit clearing up.

Back pain, neck pain, reduced joint mobility, fluid in throat and lungs, general fatigue. Starts about 6 hours after taking drops and starts to decline after about about 20 hours. The back and joint pain cause sleep problems. Xalatan was effective for lowering the IOP and have not been able to directly trace (or attemped to trace ) any of my other vision problems to the medication.

I have poor sleep quality and was wondering if loss of hair is also a side effect. I've been on Xalatan for 7 years and I am starting to loss my hair. Could this be from Xalatan?
Thank You.

My mother is currently using Alphagan-P to lower her IOP. Her doctor has recommended that she switch to Xalatan or add it as a second drop at bedtime. I want to be especially cautious given that she is monocular and 90% of her optic nerve is damaged ( she seem to be progressively losing her perpheral vision despite an IOP of 13-17 ), and she has some macular degenerative problems. I understand with Xalatan, there could potentially be macular side effects. I would appreciate it if anyone has used Xalatan or Alphagan-P to comment on side effects that they may have experienced or efficacy and also if anyone may have some insight or perhaps personal experience related to this. I would be so very, very thankful for your help.

I have experienced blurred vision and a shadow of objects and letters that is faint and just below the object or letter. For example, people will appear to have two sets of eyes. My Doctor stopped the Xalatan and assured me that the blurred vision would clear up, but it has been approximately 3 years and it seems to be getting worse. How many others have experienced this problem?? Nancy Dunaway, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
