I have NEVER had any problems my whole life until this pill
I started taking Yasmin when i was 19 and i LOVED it for the first 6 months, no mood swings no headaches no symptoms at all, and it was the first BC id ever taken so I thought I was pretty lucky. Then I started getting headaches eventually it was a constant headache no breaks for 2 months I thought i had a tumor or something, my toes and fingertips were tingling and partially numb, i was getting dizzy at work out of nowhere, I had leg cramps, my stomache was constantly hurting, eventually it was swollen to the point I could feel it by barely running my fingers over. Then finally one day at work out of nowhwere I streted blacking out, made it to the bathroom held on to the sink so I wouldnt fall, my face was GHOST WHITE and my eyes were purple, I held my head under the water for five minutes before I was fine, So I finally went to the Dr and she told me the headaches were probably from the pill and since I wasnt sexually active at the time I should stop, so I did. And she told me my stomache pain was from gastritis and gave me a perscription which never worked. I later founf out frtom a friend that the tingling and headaches and being dizzy and gastritis was from being anemic so I started taking iron pills and it all went away. I AM POSITIVE THAT YASMIN MADE ME THIS WAY IN THE FIRST PLACE ever since then I cannot have caffein which never was a problem, my stomach has never fully healed i cant eat alot of stuff I use too, and I cant do alot of stuff I use to do because I get anxiety ALL the time. I was off the pill until I was 21 then I started taking it again because I got a new dr and she said try it again just to make sure and that maybe I just had too high of a dosage before, now im frickin sorry I ever went back on because now I have experienced Kidney pain, left side of chest and arm pain off and on constantly for the past 6 months recently Ive been getting blurred vision and blacking out randomly, and my lymphnodes on the back off my head head swelled up without being sick or anything the drs checked and said they were fine ran tests no cancer or anything no infection just a big fat ?....even though they havent been swollen in months and months i still feel shooting pain in them from where theyre hitting a nerve sometimes and again ive never ever when I got sick had those particular nodes swell in my whole life let alone being completely healthy as far as colds or flu or wtv
theres honestly so much more to tell about the hell ive been in for the past 4 years but not enough time for anyone to read
I QUIT taking the pill in december becuse My BOYFRIEND AND TWO BEST FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT SEEING THE LAWSUITS ON TV WITH THIS STUFF!! at first I didnt think it was that bad most of my problems I thought I was making up in my head until i saw it on tv for myself... so I finally got on the internet today(even though ive been off it for 2 months) and saw the serious side affects that werent listed on tv that all you girls have been having and I realized IM NOT A HYPOCONDRIAC
thanks to YAS and OCELLA I will NEVER trust or take any kind of birth control pill, patch, shot AGAIN because Im terrified of dying, and Im honestly scared that alot of these symptoms ive had will never go away, Im almost 23 and dont want kids but Ill take my chances.

I keep telling myself that all the pain and problems i've had over the past 4 years is due to YASMIN. I started taking YASMIN the summer of 2005, and Jan. 2006,thats when it all started. I went to the ER with left side chest pain and left side pain from my shoulder to my toes. After numerous tests, they thought i had a pulmonary embolism, then perhaps pericarditis.Off to the cardiologist i went, nothing was abnormal or was showing on the echo. Ugh,Numerous specialists i saw and no diagnosis for this pain. Finally i stopped taking YASMIN, the summer of 2006. I still to this day have high blood pressure, left sided pain , headaches now, and i truely believe that is was from YASMIN. Or i could be making myself think that it is. I now have had a child and am never going back on YASMIN. Am i crazy?

Hello Ladies:
First I wanted to say I am sorry to hear of your experiences. But I would also like to say that you are not alone. I urge you to do as much research as you can on this pill, and you will find that your experiences are not unique. There are multiple lawsuits against the manufacturers of Yasmin, and a multitude of other women (including myself) that have experienced the same terrible side effects and symptoms that you have all posted. The more than 5000 posts on this site is evidence enough, but more research on this pill may ease your mind and reassure you that, without question, what you are experiencing is almost definitely a result of Yasmin.
There is a site called the "Yasmin Survivors Forum" (if you type it into your search engine it will come up) where there are many women on the Memberlist who have experienced the same symptoms as you, and are willing to offer advice and support. The site is currently down (the posts were mistakenly erased) but I advise you to keep checking back to see if the site is back up. There is also a Facebook page for Yasmin Survivors.
I hope that all of you who have had the unfortunate experience of taking this pill and experiencing the awful side effects will get a chance to visit these sites and do your own research.
In the meantime, I wish you all the best of luck, as well as improved health and well-being. Please feel free to send me a message on this site if you need advice, support, or would just like to share your experiences.

I was on Yasmin for 4.5 years
Seriously, I do not experienced any side effects at all
I don't gain or lose weight, my moods are fine, my skin are fine, no cramps, no heavy menses.
I really think it depends on individual.
I had bad sore breasts when I was on mercilon and I quit the pill after 2 months before I switched to Yasmin. Really, if something is not suitable, then change till something right comes along!
Its just normal intelligence to do so!
Some people gets hyperallergic reaction to paracetamol or erythromycin (antibiotic)
It is common for every dru to have side effects. They are still synthetic drugs after all. Even the all innocent harmless milk can be a potential fetal recipe to kill for certain people who are allergic to milk. Or peanuts for that matters....adults should be responsible for their choices and decisions. Not doing the blame game.

omg...i think yasmin was the reason my relationship ended, honestly!
i have never taken bc, but was told BY MY ex DOCTOR to try Yasmin b/c it was a lower dosage. I think this pill made me depressed, paranoid, irritable and it was right at the time that i moved to oregon to live with my at the time boyfriend. I guess it's all for the best (we want to be loved no matter what monsters we turn into from time to time) but when i look back at how quick to react, how irrational, and how paranoid i was i just can't help but think that I wasn't in my normal healthy state.
haven't taken anything now for 2 years, so i really hope it's out of my system.

Hi all. I am 24 years old and I am currently going back and forth with doctors trying to figure out what is wrong with me. Today I got blood test results back with nothing to show. On Monday of this week, I blacked out on the train on my way to work and was taken to the hospital--they just told me I didn't eat enough breakfast and got too hot/dizzy on the train and sent me home. For months I just don't feel like myself. I've been overly emotional and sad, my heart rate speeds when I stand, I get hot and dizzy/nauseous all the time, my hair has thinned and looks unhealthy, and I wake up all night long and am constantly tired.
I keep asking doctors if it could be my pill, and they've all said no. After reading all of these comments I feel like this just has to be it. I've tried about 4 different brands of pills over the past few years (and ortho evra patch which gave me hives) and I've had minor problems like breakthrough with all of them, but never as bad as the symptoms I've had with Yasmin. I've been on it now for about 8 months.
Thank you to everyone that has shared their stories, I feel like I am not crazy and I just cannot believe that no one's doctors are attributing these symptoms to the pill. I am tired of going through trial-and-error with these pills. I don't know if I should try something else, or give up on these types of contraceptives. I just don't know what to do, and probably because of this stupid pill, I'm about to cry about it right now. My worry now is what do I do next?

My daughter 23 started on Yasmin 11 months ago and afater 2 months it has been nothing but misery for all of us. Not until now did I put the two together because her old pharmacy had a different name down for the name of the prescription. Just this last month Yasmin was placed on the prescription bottle at the new pharmacy.
I am fighting mad that a GYN would put a person on this pill knowing the potential high risk side effects. I counted 10 of the side effects that have effected her. Yes it may work for some but by all appearance on this website and many others that those that it doesn't effect is much less.
She stopped the pill today since we just found out today about the pill issues. This information answers alot of issues from the past.
She has become depressed and doesn't know why. She is irritable and often times extremely agrumentive. Headaches have been constant and I have contributed them to her not wearing her glasses - obviously wrong cause she does wear them most of the time. Her hair has gone to pot she use to have long blonde thick hair - it not lacks luster, shine and is extremely thinned out.
Moods swings on please they have kept me on a roller coaster ride with her - one moment happy the next ticked off or the next sad. She's had leg cramps and has had high anxiety.
Thank goodness though we found out now about the issues with this pill before things got worse or even developed heart issues or worse.

Hi, I just started taking Ocella on Sunday.... 5 days ago, I decided to look it up since I have heard of Yaz having major problems. I am so happy I found this page and had the chance to read your stories. I have only taken 4 pills as of right now and I have a lot of the most listed problems on this page. I already have the occasional panic attacks that come on without any apparent reason, this started after my mother suddenly passed away a few years ago, but since the first day I started this pill I have felt very anxious NON-STOP. I have only slept about 3-4 hours each night this week due to anxiety, heart palpatations, chest pain, and headaches. My body feels soooo tired and unrested, yet my mind is in a constant panic. And because of the panic I have felt very moody and aggitated. I have three young children, so needless to say I need to be rested and HAPPY! After reading these earlier posts, I am definately not taking any chances with this BC. I only started it to try and regulate my period.
Thank you to everybody who has shared their experience, obviously everybody is different, and take to medications differently, but it seems that these are very common side effects in many woman.
I am DEFINATELY stopping taking the pill as of NOW!
I wish everybody the best of luck with their situations brought on by this terrible drug.

I was given Yasmin for my endo and I took it for ten days, which turned out to be the worst ten days of my life. After 5 days I sufferred from panic attacks, shortness of breadth, tight chest, fear, nervousness, crying in fear that I was going to have an attack, constant headache and a general feeling of losing all control. The doctor said my symptoms may be down to yasmin but it can't be from anything else as I was fine before I started taking this drug. I stopped taking this pill three days ago and although the extent of my symptoms have reduced I am still having difficulties. My doctor has now given me an inhaler and I am worried I will need this forever. Does anyone know how long it will take to get this drug out of my system, I fear that I am going to have constant panic attacks and I will never be able to leave the house again - I know it sounds completely irrational but this is how this awful pill makes you feel.

Oh my good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought this was just me!
I started taking Dianette when I was 15 years old, then a friend recommended Yasmin when I was about 23. I am now 29 so have been on it for 6 years, and only 2 days ago when I was talking to a friend about my serious mood swings and anxiety and irrational behaviour - which I thought was just the way I was., did she say: ''are you on the pill?'' I said yes but didn't really think too much that it would be that...... my mother says I am a nightmare and I honestly thought this was the person I was. My poor boyfriend and ex partners have gone through hell. After reading all these messages I think I am about to start a new life YASMIN FREE! To be honest the mood swings & depression etc started as soon as I went on the pill, but the connection was never made, and I thought it was part of being a teenager! then at 17 the doctor put me on an anti depressant and said I may have a hormone inbalancement. ? The tabelt I took for a couple of weeks were good and I thought ''wow is this what it feels like to be happy and relaxed '' but they made me vomit and I didn't want to get addicted so I came off.
For the past 14 years I have had constant MOOD SWINGS, ANXIETY, CONFUSSION, DEPRESSION AND IRRATIONAL BEHAVIOUR, and I can not believe that this has never been spotted due to the pill. I thank my friend who I call ''my angel'' for listening and pointing out something staring me in the face. My fiance and I willhopefully have a much calmer and happier relationship with out devil woman involved!

I have been taking Yasmin on and off for about 3 or 4 years. I tried Microgynon 30, Logynon, Depo Provera....None of these worked, in fact, Depo made me put on 2 stone! I asked the nurse to give me Yasmin again as it was the best out of all the others and I lost the 2 stone I had put on. :o) (Along with a new lifestyle and relationship)
I have been on Yasmin since. (About 18 months in a row now) If I'm totally honest, I take it for 3 or 4 packs at a time and don't have a break. When I do have a break, my periods are approx. 5 or 6 days and aren't too heavy at all - which is the reason I went on the pill in the first place when I was 15.
I am a very happy, healthy minded individual with a full time job and busy, enjoyable evenings and weekends. I don't have any issues with Yasmin making me angry or depressed. I rarely get angry and if I ever do, I don't stay angry long at all. I think depression depends on your situation, not necessarily the pill you take. Some people want to get on and do good things for themselves, some people would rather wallow. It's a personal thing.
On the other hand, I am a little nervous quite a lot but I wouldn't attribute that to the pill unless proved otherwise. I must say that occasionally I get some chest pain, but only VERY occasionally. Again, I can't attribute this to the pill unless proved otherwise. Another thing is that my sex drive isn't as high as I would like it to be. But can anyone give an answer as to how much you should think about sex?
It's really interesting to hear of every ones experiences using Yasmin. I hope that people do not read in to others experiences too much and believe that they have the same issues, after all we are all different and there can be many reasons things happen which aren't even related to Yasmin.
I have to say the worst pill I took was Logynon. Terrible spotting which was not fun.
Yasmin really was a breath of fresh air to me.
All the best to everyone.

I have just finished my third pack of Yasmin and I can safely say from the first month, side effects started to occur. I'm a generally happy person, and since taking these pills I've become very moody, constantly hungry, tired, my weight has been on and off, sex drive has gone down; the dryness, sore and tender breasts and the worst menstrual cramps I've ever had in my life. Going back to my moods, every little thing aggrivates me, it takes a lot to make me smile and mean it nowadays, and I'm simply just a wreck. I am never going back to these pills, I may as well just quit birth control all together...

I am 29 years old and have been on some form of birth control since I was 19. I started taking Yazmin in January or February of 2007. I had always been healthy and active, eating the right foods working out, etc. November, 2007 I went to the emergency room due to rapid heart beat and lightheadedness. They did ecgs and monitored me for a while, determining I was having an arrhythmia or palpitations and told me to go home and take it easy for a few days - thinking I may have over done it at the gym. I followed up with me ob doc a couple days later and she did the typical blood work and said everything looks fine and that was that. As time went on I noticed small things like feeling nausea, lightheaded, cold and tired a lot but just figured it was "one of those things" and over looked it. My OB doc switched me from Yazmin to Ocella in August 2008 to save me money. In May of 2009 I had another episode that brought me to the ER. My heart was racing and I kept feeling like I was going to passout, that feeling you get with you are going to throw-up and your head gets all tingly. They again did ecgs and all that, more blood work, etc. and said I now had atrial flutter and to follow up with a cardiologist. I followed up with a cardiologist and did stress tests, ultrasounds of the heart, more ecgs all to determine I had perfect heart function and health, it just went too fast at times (tachycardia), so he too told me to just take it easy on caffeine, etc and I should be fine. Time went on and I was feeling fine for the most part, a little bit of nausea, lightheaded feelings now and then but nothing everyday. On December 10, 2009 I stopped taking Ocella to start thinking of having a family. On December 18th I had an episode where I felt like I was going to faint/passout, palms got all sweaty, heart racing. I laid down and relaxed for a while and I felt fine. These same episodes kept happening close to a week apart for the next few weeks, symptoms getting more severe each time. January 2, 2010 I went to the ER again with the same symptoms, only they were not going away by lying down. They said I had Supervanticular Tachycardia and Virtigo from the lightheadedness. I went back to the ER January 4th and they admitted me due to the same symptoms only getting worse. After chest x-rays, MRI for my brain and over night monitoring of my heart functions, they still had no idea what was causing my symptoms. It is now January 27th and I have been out of work the whole month of January. If I stand up for too long, my heart goes rapid, sometimes it even happens when I am laying down, I am lightheaded constantly and all the doctors are calling me the mystery child!
After researching more about Drospirenone and the effects it can have on our bodies, it makes me wonder if all of this is due to the BC I have been on for the last 3 years. I have an appointment with a second OB doc on February 2nd, I am hopeful she will have some insight!
My symptoms seem a little different than most on here, I really wanted to get my story out and see if anyone else is feeling the same as me.

I'm on Yazmin for the last ten years. It was fine to start off with better cycles and skin and did what it was suppose to do until it all went bad.
I'm now dizzy nearly every day, no sex drive at all ever, diarreoa, can eat as much so i'm losting weight so fast it's scaring me i've become
skin and bone and as for my mood swings ,my heart goes out to the husband who is losing his wife i completely understand what he is enduring,
my moods have killed everything that i have loved for one week after my cycle i am out of control so out of control that i'm afraid of physically
hurting people around me for no reason i've tried taking my life already this year and i wake up every month with these same thoughts during that
week and i have to force myself out of it knowing in a week i will feel different, i suffer from panic attacks, stomach pain, tiredness, lost all confidence,
lost personally,no circulation in my legs and heart/chest pains. I've been to consellors and on anti-depressants thinking i'm losing my mind mentally.
Last month i was signing myself into a mental hospital because i'd given up. My poor boyfriend has endured this and i honestly don't know how or why
i was convinced it was all his fault for a very long time that he was depressin me,then we finally considered the pill so i we kept a log of when the devil
mood swings would start and what else was happening with these mood swings and sure enough i see a light at the end of this nightmare of thinking
i was going to spent the rest of my life in a mental asylum, that i believe it is the pill Yasmin thanks to this website and my boyfriend because only for
it i'm not so sure i would have been alive this time next year.Thank you so much for that, i'm finishing this month so here's hopeing for a new lease of life.

I think the only side effect that I experienced from Yasmin is Headache. I expected this because I read the leaflets provided indicating the Yasmin possible side effects. But the headache is terrible and it happens everyday of my life. So i decided to stop taking it right after i finished my 21 tabs. Right now, I am experiencing an unusual cough (super dry cough to be specific. no phlegm but just a dry cough) for almost 2 weeks, i had my med. check up and the doctor said its just a sore throat. I didnt tell her that im taking this pill. All medicines that she adviced me to take are not working and I'm so bothered that every night this terrible cough attack and I almost vomit a liquid.. My worries are if i got this from Yasmin coz im on it for 2-3 weeks.. But after ive read the stories here and i didnt find any same case as i experienced, my worries gone for a little.

Ok seriously, you women are bordering psychotic.. perhaps I should blame your lack of intelligence on the pill too? You really need to stop self diagnosing yourself and realize that when dealing with hormones, your body requires time to adjust. For those of you who have been on yasmin for many years and have said it has been like living in hell, well then you are only to blame. Not every birth control is right for each person; however, if after three months you are still feeling horrible, you should have probably made an intelligent decision to go see your doctor and switch doses/ birth control. I would advise all of you to get off this website, and instead go see your doctor. By the way, I think I should let all of you know that I have been on yasmin for 2 minutes, and in that time my dog died and my house got struck by lightning ...I am certain the ONLY reason for all this misfortune MUST be due to the pill ... ;)

Well I have been taking Yasmin since March 2005. Let me tell ya, it's been problems since then, and after reading a few entries on this site I know Yasmin was to blame. I have noticed weight gain, and I exercise religiously. It's very hard to take the weight off. Two summers ago, I was diagnosed with celulitious on my left leg. I had no idea what it was, most people have never heard of it. Its a skin infection and my leg swelled twice its size. I went to the doctors and she thought it was a blood clot. But thankfully the ultrasound said no. Although it was very hard to get rid of I have now noticed that I have no muscle tone what so ever in that area. So now I can plainly see that my legs swell on a daily basis. From the time I get up in the morning to the time I go to bed, you can visibly see a huge difference in my calves. Also, since I have started taking Yasmin I have terrible migraines that normally result in me vommiting. I''ve asked my doctor about it and she never had any idea what it could of been. Also I've always been the type of girl who bruised very easily, but now when I get one it takes weeks to almost months to get rid of a simple bruise. With that, severe anxiety, depression, massive health risks... It is so not worth it. I wish I could've known sooner.. But better late than never I suppose. I hope this helped someone out there.

Yasmin has all but destroyed my daughters and her family around her. She took it for three months and changed beyond recognition. She became anxious depressed and started self harming. After stopping at my insistence within a fortnight she launched into full on PGAD disorder with no respite now for six weeks. The hormone changes must be linked to this. There is no cure it seems for PGAD so all we can seemingly do is pray that the symptoms will subside, although once triggered some people seem to have them for a life sentence. Avoid yasmin at all costs, we will certainly be investigating any lawsuits happening in the UK.

I have been on ocella, the generic version of yasmin, for about five years. I was really happy with the pill for the first year. I had previously problems where my birth control had caused irregular periods and periods that lasted 12 and 13 days, so when I found yasmin I thought it was great.
I have always had this chest pain since I started taking yasmin that I seriously did not understand. I asked doctors and none had a clue. As of recent, the medicine is making me feverish and throwing up. I'm not sure what the deal is. It's like if I don't take it exactly 24 ours apart, I am sick the rest of the day. It has made me throw up at least ten times in the last three months, and no I am not pregnant. I am one of the most laid back, sarcastic people prior to this. I have HUGE anxiety to the point now that leaving my house, driving, working, cause anxiety. I am completely lost because these are things that ordinary make me happy. I find myself not wanting to leave my bed because its the only situation that does not develop more anxiety. I have had panic attacks as of late. It definetely seems that it is progressing in the last couple of months. My fatigue is ridiculous. I will go to bed and wake up 100% tired. This is the one symptom that I can recall from day one of taking the pill. I will sleep for 8-10 hours, wake up and feel like I never went to bed. My doctors have tested all thyroid and ALL other possibilities and it's all a no go. I am on Provigil currently, which is a prescribed energy drug for narcoleptics. Most people that take it are bouncing off the walls, and when I take it, I can STILL sleep for hours. I am just constantly dragging. I am a happy person in a great relationship and yet all I do is panic. I had no idea that this drug did this. I called my gyno and she confirmed that YES these are ALL side effects. My question is seriously how can a doctor give me this, knowing all of the effects it is causing? I AM DONE WITH YASMIN. I have been on this pill for five years. Does anyone know if I will see a change or will it really take a long time?

My Yasmin Nightmare 20 Jan - 13:27
Hello.
I stumbled across this website and need you to look at it:
http://home.intekom.com/pharm/schering/yasmin.html
I am 27 years old. I have been on the Depo Provera from the age of 17, due to endometriosis. 4 months ago, I decided to go onto Yasmin. I experienced mood swings of note, loss of libido, headaches, nausea, lack of energy... and the list goes on.. But the worst is yet to come.
On Monday the 5th of Jan 2010, my appendix was taken out via emergency surgery. I was discharged the Thursday morning. I started limping when I walked, but brushed it off as a discomfort from surgery. 2 days later I was admitted to Milpark Hospital (Johannesburg, South Africa), with a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombsis) in my left thigh and was also diagnosed with a severe PE (Pulmonary Embolism). I was standing on death's front porch!!!!!
Various blood tests were done to establish any previous genetic blood disorders (PCR Genetic diseases) and were eliminated by the Pathology Lab and the Vascular Surgeon. My potassium and sodium levels were quite low...
The cause of my blood clots?? YASMIN!!
My CT scan report said the following:
Technique: Post contrast through the chest as per Pulmonary Embolism Protocol.
Findings:
The central pulmonary artery appears normal. There is evidence of a filling defect in relation to the area of the left pulmonary artery, just at the level of the branch of the upper lobe segmental branch. There is the impression of thickening in relation to the segmental branch of the anterior segment of the right upper lobe with further impression of a suspicious filling defect noted in relation to the apical segmental branch.
Further evidence of eccentric pulmonary emboli noted along the right interlobar artery, continuing into the apical segmental branch of the right lower lobe.
Continuing eccentric filling defect noted to extend into the right inferior pulmonary artery with defect noted inferiorly.
There is evidence of a filling defect noted in relation to the lateral basal segmental branch of the right lower lobe.
Further evidence of filling defect is noted in relation to the third order division branches to the posterobasal segment of the right lower lobe.
The upper lobe segmental branch appears to be intact.
The left pulmonary arteryappears to be well opacified.
There is evidence of eccentric clot in relation to the lateral wall of the left inferior pulmonary artery which is noted to continue inferiorly into the segmental branches of the anteromedial basal and laterobasal segmental branches.
The aortic arch and the rest of the thoracic aorta appears normal in calibre. The heart and chambers seem to be within normal limits.
No pleural effusions or segmental atelectasis or pleauroparenchymal infarcts are noted.
The visualized liver, spleen, pancreas and upper poles of both kidneys appear to be normal. The intrahepatic IVC appears to be patent.
Delayed scan performed through the lower abdomen and pelvis. There is evidence of a filling defect in relation to the left common iliac just beyond the bifurcation just beyond the confluence with clot noted to extend o the left external iliac and left internal iliacs.
Clot noted in relation to left common femoral and left superficial femoral veins.
The pelvic structures appear to be within normal limits.
There is evidence of multiple acute pulmonary emboli in relation to both lungs. These were noted to involve predominantly the segmental and subsegmental order division branches.
There is however clot noted in relation to the right inferior, right interlobar and left inferior pulmonary arteries.
Extensive clot noted to extend from the left common iliac vein distally.

Hi girls, I remember writing on here not long ago and saying how great Yasmin was because I thought I didnt have any side effects. I am 21 now and was on Yasmin since I was 16. I always just thought I was an angry person. My anger started to take over me and it was ruining my life. I lost 2 of my long term boyfriends due to my anger and paranioa. I feel like I was in denial all these years and not once did I stop to think it was this pil. I have been on a different pill for nearlly 2 months now and I am a totally different person. I dont feel angry anymore and now I feel I wasted so much time being angry and wondering what was wrong with me. I feel so annoyed that I didnt pick up on this earlier. My boyfriend now stuck with me through this and since I have changed from Yasmin life has been great. Doctors dont care what they give us and I think it is disgusting. They just give you what you ask for, they dont tell you side effects, they dont tell you anything, they just print it out and say give it a go. I have wasted so much time and god knows if has done other things to my body and I hope with all my heart nothing comes up later on from his drug. Life is short and that is something I have learnt from wasting my best days so angry down and hating everything.
I hope this helps someone because I thought this was a great pill for the 6 years I was on it and have only just realised what was happening to me.

My daughter was on Yasmin for just about a year for control of irregular cycles when she went off to college.
I got a call from her one evening and she said she was having back pains and one of her legs was getting fat and wouldn't fit in her jeans. I asked her to go to the doctor asap because she was on birth control and I had heard of the rare instance in which it caused blood clots. The doctor sent her home and told her to put her leg up. Thank God, her roomate was a medical student and started measuring her leg and they found that it had started to gain inches in a very short time...the medical student called her relative that was a doctor and they told her to go to the hospital immediately. What happened next was a nightmare for my daughter and I...she was hospitalized for everal days missing finals for DVT,,,a extremely large blood clot that ran through her major vein starting just under her heart in her chest and running all the way down into her hip. They were unable to perform surgery on the blood clot, so consequently she will take blood thinners to prevent future clots which could kill her. She's now 22 years, still has one leg larger than others has monthly drs visits to have blood taken and has had to alter her life permanetly. She Can never take birth control pills again, will need special care if she decides to have kids and is considered high risk for health care coverage. I was angry and felt it was the yasmin all along and now there are so many other problem cases that I am convinced of it. They did every test possible on her and found no signs of any possible contributor so they determined that in likelyhood it was the yasmin as well.
Please advise your daughters, sisters and friends to stay away from it...it is not worth it!.

I was on Yasmin before and thought it was ok as I didnt seem to put on weight..I then after a year started to getting spotting in between my period so I changed to another pill but I gained weight. I then decided to try Yasmin again...I am very active at the gym every day and run quite a bit. I just started running again mid 2009 ( I stopped 2008 after loosing my interest in it because I wasnt getting any better) I was well impressed I was feeling quite fit and running longer and quicker than before UNTIL just over 2 months ago when I went back on Yasmin my fitness level has went back to square one and it is making me feel down when I go for a run and I am rubbish. I then began to think it all started to slip when I went back on Yasmin and began reading up on it. I wonder if anyone else has had these symptoms? My legs just ache alot of the time sometimes sore to touch and while running my body goes sort of numb and weak feeling half way around my run (full run only max 6miles) I am due to go back to my doc to see what he says..It could be my imagination but I am hoping this is the explanation for it.

I began taking Yasmin in either late 2005 or early 2006, I can't remember exactly; up until recently I never gave any thought to side effects that I might be experiencing. My period was very regular and relatively light.
I had RNY gastric bypass in early in 2004, I steadily lost weight through late 2005; I began gaining weight again in early 2006 and have continued to do so since that time. I was exercising regularly (aerobics, strength training, walking, etc) through Spring of 2009. At that time, I suffered my second stress fracture and decided I needed to alter my work out schedule so as to avoid the stress fractures. While exercising regularly and maintaining the same overall eating habits; I gained weight. There were weeks where I gained 10 pounds with no rhyme or reason and nothing would help to lose it. My body did not have any physical changes to the exercise I was doing. I was frustrated beyond belief.
Prior to my surgery I suffered migraines. They completely stopped after my surgery until sometime in 2006 or 2007. At that same time I began having night sweats and migraines again. I began having some testing done on my thyroid and it was determined I've got Hashimoto's disease (nothing serious, but basically my body is attacking my thyroid). My endocrinologist has my thyroid under control and I have it checked annually at this point. I had hoped that when my thyroid was under control it would assist me in my weight loss. It didn't.
Over the past few weeks, I began hearing more and more about Yasmin and complications people were having. This past weekend, I had a ton of time to do some thinking (I was painting my house) and was thinking a lot about Yasmin. I began constructing a time line in my head and began to wonder if the Yasmin was at all related to my weight gain, I began piecing the calendar in my head. I began researching some of the side effects of Yasmin and realized that while some people had no side effects, many people exhibited symptoms that I too was experiencing. I have been more irritable and moody, and a host of the other side effects I have seen. I sent a link to my boyfriend to read and his response was 'oh my, you have most of these'. We were together prior to my taking Yasmin.
I have stopped taking Yasmin and go to see my gynecologist next month. I will begin exploring other options of birth control.

I am here to WARN ALL OF YOU that you need to stop taking Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella ASAP. I have studied for many years, and am well aware of what the drug in these birth control pills is doing to you. I am attaching my letter that I wrote to the FDA and pharmaceutical companies. You may not have side effects now, BUT it's just a matter of time. Please heed my warning. There are better pills to be taking. Also, if you go off of any 3 of these pills, you may continue to suffer side effects. A doctor prescribed salt pills to my niece, and they helped a lot. Your potassium and sodium balance is out of whack, due to the drug turning off another ver important hormone that will be described in my letter. I wish you all the best!!
Letter to the FDA (and the applicable drug companies)
To Whom It May Concern,
I have recently taken on the task of studying about the effects of Drospirenone, an active ingredient of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella birth control pills. I took this study task on, since I have a high level of understanding of what certain chemicals can do in the human body. It did not take me long to realize that healthy young women were being poisoned by this criminal ingredient; criminal meaning that this ingredient should NOT be prescribed to healthy individuals under the guise of birth control pills. Unsuspecting women and teenage girls are being subjected to a dangerous chemical without fully understanding the aftermath of its purpose in the body. Apparently you do not fully understand this either, otherwise you (FDA), Bayer, Barr Industries, or Teva Pharmaceuticals would have never approved, or distributed, this horrendous concept of contraception. So, since it seems obvious to me that you lack the efficiency or education of protecting our youth, I will try and open up your eyes, in a simplistic manner, in order to help you see what a horrible and insidious ingredient you have allowed to be marketed in Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella birth control pills.
Drospirenone has close chemical similarities to Spironolactone, which places them both in a class of diuretics. They are also antagonists to the hormone called Aldosterone, through this diuretic process. Aldosterone has specific purposes in the body, which includes the fluid control and regulation of blood pressure within the vessels, as well as, regulation of sodium, which helps retain the water for these important functions. As an example of where this hormone is critical is this. A young girl engages in sports for an extended period of time, while profusely sweating, along with not replenishing the body with much needed water. The body realizes that there is a dire necessity to hold on to more sodium in order to retain the fluids that are left, hence why the much needed Aldosterone is signaled to do this job. The flow of blood is critical to our very survival because it carries oxygen and nutrients. If the Aldosterone pathway is turned off by the actions of Drospirenone, then the body has no way of maintaining this highly important function, other than to revert to robbing other organs of valuable fluids, in order to keep the vital blood pressure equalized. The robbed organs could include the gallbladder, kidneys, lungs, liver, pancreas and/or the heart. I believe the body is intelligent enough to know that it can only rob so much fluid from each organ, trying to preserve everything at a minimal of operational efficiency, before one of the organs will eventually fail. The girl playing sports is a short term understanding and example of the important function of Aldosterone, but what harm will this do to her body on a long term basis?
The girl continues taking her birth control pill daily, with the Drospirenone in it. She has no idea that her body is constantly fighting to keep her fluids adjusted in her body. She may even drink a caffeinated pop, or two, everyday, which is also a diuretic, and adds even more deleterious effects to the already compromised situation. The girl may start to get migraines, but does not know why. She may get occasional numbness, and discounts it as something that is not important. She probably will not make any connection to the birth control pills. As the fluid balance and blood pressure slowly, but surely, drops, with each passing day, the blood starts to thicken, which will inevitably lead to blood clot formation in various places of this young girl’s body. With the thickened condition of the blood, the heart finds it hard to pump this life giving fluid, because the blood pressure has become too low. The flow of oxygen and nutrients then become compromised in the entire body. As the body continues to rob vital organs of their much needed fluids, then either the gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, liver, heart, or lungs will begin to shut down. In order for the body to continue to preserve itself, it will weaken the girl so that she cannot participate in any activity, whatsoever. Her vision may start to become blurred. She will feel nauseous due to lack of nutrients. She will lay around and become sicker and sicker as each day passes, until she dies. Is this all for the sake of stopping weight gain before her period?!! Now I have a brief lesson on why weight gain happens prior to menstruation.
Estrogen signals the body to prepare for an egg to be fertilized. In preparation of a pregnancy, the lining of the uterus is thickened for protective purposes. Once the body realizes that a pregnancy did not occur, then progesterone signals the body to start sloughing off the added lining that is no longer needed. As the time draws nearer to the menstruation, the girl begins to hold more fluids. This additional fluid is in preparation to make extra blood so that the lining and unfertilized egg can be removed by being washed out by the menstrual blood. What if the girl does not have enough fluid, in the first place, due to Drospirenone? She may not have a period at all, because the body had to first maintain it’s equalized balance of fluids in the vessels. The girl then starts developing cysts in her uterus, because all of the vital functions have been compromised and the unneeded lining could not be washed out, as nature intended. The body is doing the best it can with what it has, but something has to give. Obviously the medical establishment is not aware of these deleterious effects of Drospirenone, otherwise they would have stopped prescribing this birth control drug in the first place. Did any of you not think beyond premenstrual bloating, to the far reaching effects of stopping the enormously important function of Aldosterone?
In the very least, these birth control pills should only be prescribed to people that do have problems with hypertension or hypokalemia. Then, these same legitimately prescribed women should have their potassium levels checked on a regular basis, just as they would have to do if taking Spironolactone, otherwise they too will begin to start having the same problems that so many other girls are experiencing.
So, in closing, I want you ALL to know that you should be completely ashamed of yourselves. I could NOT live with myself knowing good and well that what I had either manufactured or approved had these harmful effects on our vibrant, wonderful, and unsuspecting young women. This drug is seriously injuring and killing our female population, and I can only surmise that it is in our marketplace for mere profit, because otherwise there is no conscionable sense to be made of this vile and detestable act. The drug, Drospirenone, should be IMMEDIATELY taken out of birth control pills and I hold you ALL accountable for not taking the initiative to do this. If you do nothing, then these injuries and deaths rest on your shoulders, and your shoulders alone. Can you live with that? I sure couldn’t.
An appalled parent of a wonderful daughter of whom I love dearly,
Rhonda

I start taking Yasmin a little more than a month ago because my body was not ovulating correctly. The first month was the worst. I was constantly nauesous or throwing up, my breast were constantly sore, and I was menstrating for 23 days. But once i started my next menstural cycle a few days later all my complaints are pretty much gone. The only other side effect from taking Yasmin that Ive noticed is on some occasions I get cramps in my legs.

I am 16 years old and started Ocella in June 2009. At first, everything seemed fine except for the fact that I had really bad nausea for the first month on the pill. As the summer progressed, I noticed a lot of change in my body. I've always been super active and have been riding horses since I was 4. But whenever I rode over the summer, I would start feeling very faint or sick and I would have to stop. Soon I started getting dizzy just from standing up. Like I said, I'm 16 and have always been very healthy so this was unusual. I also began waking up in the middle of the night every night with very severe pains in my calves. It was the worst pain I have ever felt and I would wake up screaming bloody murder. At first my family and I thought it was just from pulling my muscles while jumping my horses, but the pain only happened in bed in the middle of the night and wasn't evident during the day.
I finally decided to go to the doctor when I would randomly start to black out simply from walking or getting up. It had also gotten so bad that I could barely drive anymore because every time I did I felt like the world was spinning and I couldn't focus on anything. I went to the doctor complaining of the pain in my legs, the head troubles I'd been experiencing, and other strange side effects such as heart palpitations and profuse shaking. As soon as I told my doctor my symptoms, she said that she was taking me off the pill right away because it had done extreme damage to my brain tissue, heart and leg muscles, and had caused liver and kidney damage. I was especially shocked when she told me that, had I ignored the side effects, the pill would have probably ended up killing me within a month.
Getting off of Ocella was no cake walk either. I got off in September or October and I am still experiencing horrible side effects. Although the have lessened significantly, I still experience random "episodes" including bad nose bleeds (I've never had nose bleeds before), dizziness, nausea, uncontrollable shaking and sweating, and passing out. Thankfully, my menstrual cycle is probably more normal than it was when I was on Ocella and my body's hormones are starting to equalize themselves out again. I'm told that these side effects will be gone for good by April.
I urge everybody to stand up against Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella, no matter how old you are.
Good luck!

I've been taking Yasmin for years, but have been wearing contacts for exactly 1 year. I've been lazy taking them on time and doubled up 2 to 3 times a month the last 3 months. I just started having central vision loss in my right eye only and have seen 2 doctors that told me my eye is healthy and that I am probably stressed. I see many people have blurred vision - has anyone else experienced such a dramatic vision change sure to Yasmin?

Thank the lord for this website...I've been taking Yasmin for almost 3 months, the past 4 weeks or so I have been suffering with terrible stomach pains, to the point of almost passing out from the pain. I've had constipation for days, followed by diarrhea for days, stomach pain most of the day, which swings from mild discomfort to incredible pain. I've noticed a thinning of my hair, my skin has gone patchy/dry and I get angry at the slightest thing and I have no sex drive or energy, and I'm having sleep problems. Also my self esteem has taken a big dip, probably partly due to being afraid to leave the house incase of sudden diarrhea.
I was convinced I have some serious stomach disorder, as the leaftlet that comes with Yasmin mentions nothing about side affects to the stomach. I've also not seen anything about stomach related issues on other Yasmin review websites.
I am going to stop taking this pill and see if my symptoms improve, after reading the other articles, I'm sure it will.

This post is in response to kayo8439.
First of all, I have to wonder if you are an employee of Bayer (the manufacturer of Yasmin) because your grammar and syntax changes quite a bit throughout your post.; Bayer has numerous lawsuits pending due to the horrifying side effects of Yasmin; it is their "billion dollar baby", so to speak, and it would not surprise me in the least to have them stoop so low.
Second, I am a nurse, and I can tell you FOR A FACT that Yasmin has been found to be directly responsible for the deaths of several healthy young women due to an embolism. Do you not read the papers?
Third, it is utterly irresponsible and foolish to post such drivel regarding mental illness being present prior to women taking the pill, and women "blaming" the pill for side effects. Rather than taking your doctor's opinion as the final word, why don't you ask him for the precaution insert that is supposed to be included with every pill pack? I highly advise anyone even thinking of using the pill as birth control to read it prior to making a decision. Thousands of women who had NO PRIOR HISTORY of anxiety, depression, or panic disorder have taken Yasmin and have suffered terrible side effects. The women who do have a familial tendency toward depression/anxiety are shamed into thinking that they have no right to blame the pill, when in fact the hormones present in the pill exacerbates extremely mild symptoms of depression and/or anxiety which may not have ever presented had they not taken the pill. As a woman in the medical field, I am absolutely enraged and disgusted that this pill continues to be marketed and sold in the U.S. when thousands upon thousands of women of all ages are experiencing terrible side effects and are being told by their doctors that it is, basically, "all in their heads". Has it not occurred to anyone that Bayer's Yasmin is a billion dollar industry, and that these doctors receive tidy kickbacks when they push this product?
Anyway, "kayo", please educate yourself before you post such utter nonsense. Yes, the human body does undergo age related changes, but nothing even close to the magnitude of what women are reporting while being on the pill, or stopping the pill after years of taking it. Some women do not experience any side effects on Yasmin, but they are in the minority, and usually have not been taking it for more than one year. My advice to you is to take the pill for several years, then come back to medications.com and tell us how you feel.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Nurse

First of all for those of you commenting on birth control, you all need to understand birth control effects every woman differently by age and by already mental illnesses that are present prior to taking birth control. So, to tell people not to take this because of your experiences, does not mean it will be the same for someone else. Not only that, it seems people do not give it enough time to work. You cannot take it for only a month and expect it to be normal to your body right away. It takes time for your body to adjust to a birth control pill due to hormones in it. I used to start birth control with orthotricyclin. The first day I got very nauscious and threw up. The throwing up went on for a couple of weeks on that brand. Then, my periods were lasting for 2 weeks. My Dr. put me on micrette a generic brand with a lower dose. I still had the same problem and then weight gain. I decided to get off birth control all together because I did not like the side effects. I'm now 28 and realize the not good idea of not having pregnancy prevention back up. I finally got back on birth control and my Dr. put me on Yasmin. I am day 1 starter . I have not had any side effects except tiredness the 1st day. I'm clear of side effects for now and I know I'm in the clear due to the fact my past experiences of side effects on other brands of BCP were immediate. Never had I experienced depression or anger issues on any birth control pill. And honestly, it's not by the cause of birth control. It's by what is already an issue with woman, not the pill causing it. I spoke to my Dr. about this because it was a concern of mine based upon reviews of this brand. He told me just that, it's not the pill it's woman that already have issues and it's just showing because of what's really going on in their lives at the time and they are blaming the pill. They might not have had unusual stress before that time frame. They decide to blame the pill because they feel it had started due to taking the pill when really the problem was present before taking it. PMS effects everyone differently as well. I never had PMS symptoms until my later 20's and that was on the pill or off the pill. Periods change frequently. You may have a normal period without cramps, PMS, etc and then the next few you do. It's your body getting older. And when you get older your body changes as well as your hormones. Plus, woman older in their 30's are advised not to take the pill. Vision problems are not related to the pill. It's related to something else. More than reality it's an allergy.
So instead of blaming a pill, you need to ensure it's not related to another problem first.
I have not had any anger, any vision, any weight gain, or other side effects since I've been on Yasmin.
Hope I helped anyone.

I'm 26 years old and have been taking Yasmin for about 4 years. I started taking birth control pills when I was 16 prescribed by my dermatologist for acne control. I first started taking orthotricylene which worked just fine and did everything it was supposed to do. My gyno switched me to a different pill (for no reason really) when I got married at 19. I can't remember the name of it, but it was the worst 2 months of my life. I cried every day for no reason. The gyno believed it had too low of a dose of hormones for what my body needed. My doctor switched me to back to orthotricylene again. 4 years ago I began having MAJOR acne problems (mostly due to stress from a divorce). My dermatologist put me on Yasmin. My acne cleared up, my sex drive is normal, I haven't lost or gained weight, my periods are short and normal, and I don't have any cramps or negative side effects. My point is ladies, (like so many others have said on here) everyone's body reacts differently to different pills. I didn't do well on one type of birth control, but I do great on others. Same thing goes for different types of anti-depressants, etc. Quit self diagnosing. That's what doctors are for. Sure there are woman out there who have suffered major side affects from this pill. Guess what? Some people suffer major side affects from taking other medications too! It's unfortunate, but it happens. If you have concerns, go to your doctor, don't just quit taking a medication prescribed to you. Your doctor will find out what is causing the problem. Funny, cause isn't that what we pay them to do?

Wow I am surprised at how terrible the side affects have been for so many women here and I just want to say how sorry I am that all of you ladies have had to go through that. From what I understand, Yasmin is a high hormone birth control pill which can contribute to why some of you ladies are experiencing these terrible symptoms. However, there is the option of taking a lower hormone pill such as Yaz or orthotricyclin lo, which was wonderful for me in the past.
I began to take Yasmin become of severe PMDD symptoms, severe cramping, and long menstrual cycles. I have to say that I have had the complete opposite affect. I have since lost 20 lbs since I started the pill in November, my cramps are relatively gone, my periods now last 3 days as opposed to 7 days before, my skin looks absolutely beautiful, my mood swings have alleviated some, but they do moderately come back occassionally, and my sex drive has gone up incredibly. I did experience some sickness the first month such as diarea, breast tenderness, and bleeding the whole first month, but after I got my period, that all went away.
I hope you ladies find the right medication, and remember it could be the high levels of hormone in the pill, try the lower hormone level pills. Even if the insurance company will only pay for the generic brand, it should still be a low hormone level pill.
Good Luck to all and good health!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My periods were irregular so my doctor put me on Yasmin to control it. While I was taking it, I felt fine. didnt notice anything weird, then it was time for my period to come. I started on tuesday and now it's Wed today and I"m still menstrating.-VERY HEAVILY. I've had thee worst cramps in my stomach and also in my upper thighs it's hideous. Motrin doesnt work, heating pad doesnt work and I"m going thru a tampon every hour. I called my Dr and they said to switch to pads. I have switched- that has helped with the cramping but still having the cramps. - I"m having to leave work to change my clothes because the constant bleeding is just not staying on the pad either! I"m going to see the OB/GYN today- hoping they can stop this bleeding. I"m just wondering if Yasmin is the culprit.

I have read many posts on here with interest and still dont know what to think as fully aware medications of any kind can have different side effects for each individual. I have been having irregular periods since 'August last yr, i have had scans, and blood tests so far to rule out anything untoward, my doctor put me on Yasmin started taking Xmas eve the next day felt sick, also the period pain i usualy get never went away along with back pain, to make matters worse have not stopped bleeding since, i went bacl to the doctors Monday where i have been told to come off it and now referred to the hosptal for even more tests, sonce being of it for 2 days i am bleeding more heavy like a period, does anyone have a simular story its the constant bleeding thats getting to me and dont know if this pill made my problems worse or how long its likely to carry on. My periods before Aug were every 28 days but although become irregular didnt last more than 5 days at a time since taking this pill its been 12 days so far and counting.

I had been taking Yasmin for over 5 yrs and had no bad reactions. It seemed to balance out my hormones and to stop the pain I get constantly in my right ovary. My insurance has since replaced it with Ocella and it makes me sick if I miss 1 pill.
Each person responds differently to the different birth control pills, I have been on and off them since I was 13 for irregular periods and when I started back then I gained alot of weight.
I also had a hysterectomy 3 years ago due to cervical cancer but they left my ovaries which is why my doctors have agreed that i will continue to take the birth control everyday, I don't get a week off. After about 3-4 days of not taking the hormones my right ovary starts to become very painful to where sometimes I will double over in pain and since I started the Yasmin my migraines have become less frequent.
Remember every medication you take has some side effects some will affect you worse than others but it is always your decision as to what medications and side effects you as an individual are willing to live with. For me the benefits far out weigh the side effects, but it may not be the same for someone else.

Thanks to medications.com for providing a place where women can share their experiences about their side effects after taking Yasmin. Today there are over 5,100 Side Effects posted for Yasmin. I know many of these women found this website from Yasmin Survivors Forum - another incredibly useful site where women can also share their experiences. Another website that may be useful to the women posting here is the blog Yaz on Trial, which is tracking the side effects and lawsuits of Yasmin and Yaz. For more information, simply search for Yaz on Trial.

I'm 37, in great health and have been on Yaz for almost 2 years with no problems until 3 months ago. My sex drive is gone, my moods swing wildly out of control (my poor husband never knows what to expect!) I've suffered from migraines for the first time in my life (they get so bad I have to leave work), my heart beats irregularly every once in awhile, I'm always tired and I've gained 8 pounds. I've been trying to figure out what's going on - reading what others have experienced here put the pieces of the puzzle together for me. It's such a relief to know it's not in my head and I'm not alone. Calling my OB tomorrow to switch to something else.

I've been taking Yasmin for almost 3 weeks because Evra was not helping at all with severe PMS symptoms (they change every month, but usually are severe cramps, lack or excess of appetite, mood changes, feeling of being exhausted and so). The weird part is that since I switched to Yasmin I've been having a constant feeling of panic and nausea that weren't there before. The worst part was on New Years Eve, when I didn't drink much, but had the worst hangover of my life, with heart palpitations, vomiting, nausea, and many symptoms similar to those that many women are posting here.
Is it too soon to blame this pill for this? Should I wait longer and find out if the symptoms disappear? I'm not sure the doctor with help, but I will ask her if there are more cases like mine. Just want to reduce the crazy PMS!!! Please, if someone knows the answer, please help us!

Wow! I am glad to know I am not alone. I used to sell for Slumber Parties and took pride in teaching women to enjoy their bodies. Now my sex drive is completely gone. My husband is so frustrated and as hard as it is to imagine, I almost would not blame him if he did cheat on me. It's not just that I don't want sex, him wanting it makes me angry. I hate being touched now. I resent him for wanting me.
Up until Yasmine I could count how many times in my life I cried. Since Yasmine I cry every day. I even wake up in the middle of the night with night terrors crying. My depression is so bad I find myself with razors cutting myself regularly. I look like a piece of meat in a butcher shop.
Initially I lost weight fairly well after my daughters birth, but in the last year I have gained over 45 pounds and can't seem to do anything about it. This is the biggest I have ever been.
I only took Yasmin as a contraceptive, I never had acne that I worried about, but now I break out bad before my cycle.
I never had cramps worth mentioning before, now they are so painful I cry for at least three days post menstrual cycle because the pain is so unbearable. I sometimes can not even stand and will lay in the fetal position for hours.
Over the last four months I take on average 15 Advil a day just so my headache subsides enough that it doesn't hurt to think.
I am going to the Dr. TOMORROW! I wish this drug never entered my life. I have been on it for over 2 years, I hope it is not too late to get me back. These last two years have been horrible!!! A lot of it I blamed on post pardon depression, but I was way off base.
Thank you all for sharing your stories! I hope they reach enough people to get this drug off the market!

This is the story of how Yasmin destroyed my marriage and my life, it is a true story, no fictional characters or situations and any similarities with real life are not casual or concidential but a side effect of this evil medicine called Yasmin.
My wife started taking Yasmin three years ago, after our son was born and at first, the medicine seemed a miracle. Her sin cleared, her cramps subsided, her periods became very regular and lasted always 3 days (before Yasmin she was not regular, had hughe cramps and her periods could go on for days).
Six months into Yasmin she began having wild mood swings and very acute PMS on a monthly basis, followed by a complete loss of sexual drive and appetite. I suggested the pill could be causing these side effects, instead, she started to blame me. Her bad morning moods were due to my face, her lack of libido because I disgusted her. She became rude and mean, but then, like magic, when her period ended she resumed her loving and caring self, nevertheless her sex drive never returned. Yasmin destroyed our sex life completely and no marriage can survive without sex. I bought her sexy lingerie, took her places, endless trips, I even lost 20 pounds, I could never light her flame back.
Then she started having insomnia, she would wake up in the middle of the night very thirsty and with cravings of cigarrettes so every morning at 6 AM she would enter the bathroom and smoke. She became addicted to tobacco and she is currently somking 1.5 packs daily. A month ago, trying to save our relationship, I rented a Villa on the beach and we couldn't make love the entire weekend because she stopped lubricating completely (she used to lubricate a lot) and sex became painful and unpleasant for both, needless to say I was also blamed for this.
Last weekend she entered a major depressive episode. As usual, the Dr. Jeckyl inside her turned to Mr. Hyde three days before her period, but this time, when she gobbled the last pill on the batch, all hell broke loose. This time not only she screamed at me but also insulted our 3.5 year old son, needless to say an innocent, good, beautiful, charming and sweet boy.
Now I am here, sitting in front of my computer with a suitcase full of clothes on my car, desolated, depressed and wondering what might have gone wrong. For years I took a hard beating both physically and morally, got my self esteem destroyed and my entire life dislocated by a marital situation that resembled a roller coaster with lower highs and even lower lows and the high and lows were highly correlated to Yasmin.
I consider myself a fair person, a relatively successful entrepreneur (given today's conditions), I hardly drink, don't smoke, I excersize, I spend most of my time home, I care for my wife and kid, I have provided generously both materially and morally. I never thought my marriage would have this finale.
So for all you women or men reading this post, this is another side effect of Yasmin. Not only it destroys bladders, livers, causes nausea, chest pain, anxiety, destroys libido and sex drive and causes insomnia and vaginal dryness, it is also a destroyer of marriages.
I hope you brave women out there initiating a class action lawsuit against Bayer succeed in getting remedies and in pulling this evil pill off the shelves. As for me, I hope this post causes Bayer the loss of many customers. It may not bring my marriage back and I may not get over it but at least I will get even.
I am open for any questions at hihi@acuario.com

My, you ladies do complain. I have noticed that the majority of posts mention PCOS. I would like to point out that PCOS is a hormone imbalance caused by increased insulin levels. (Referred to as insulin-resistance.) Insulin has a similar chemical makeup as other hormones in the body and cause symtoms such as irritability, mood swings, weight gain/loss, hirsuism, acne, anovulatory cycles, migranes, and many other symptoms that can wreck your daily life. Please do not misunderstand me, I truly feel for all of you suffering. But if you have PCOS, I strongly advise you to see an endocrinologist. These doctors are the hormone specialists. If your gynocologist has selected Yasmin for your PCOS symptoms, there is a good reason! Don't quit because you are trying to diagnose yourself. In the meantime of seeing your doctor, try a low carb, low fat meal plan and try some moderate exercise (30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, a brisk walk is satisfactory) to help control your insulin resistance Also, if you have just began taking Yasmin, remember it takes up to 3 months for your body to adjust. It is hormone therapy and must build up in your body. If you have been taking this pill for years and have only recently been having issues with mood swings, fatigue, etc., I would make a doctors appointment ASAP. It's not likely to be the Yasmim after all this time, and your doctor may want to check for thyroid issues or other hormonal problems. I speak from 10 years of personal experience battling PCOS. I also know that yes, their are women out there who truly cannot cope with Yasmin, but before you choose to "quit the pill", please call your doctor and never self diagnose. Good luck to all.

Hello,
I am a 24 year old woman who has been taking Yasmin for 2 years. WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE! Everything I've been through with this pill has been horrific. It is so relieving to know that so many of you have felt the exact same symptoms as me. It makes me feel like I'm actually NOT going crazy after all! I have constant feelings of anxiety, dizziness...I actually had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance one time because I was so dizzy I couldn't even walk or get out of my bed. They did all these scans and found nothing, told me it was a bad case of Vertigo. Everyday, I feel dizzy, my stomach problems have been so bad, I've done lots of tests on my stomach for acid reflex, etc only for them to tell me it was stress-induced acid reflex. I've had so many anxiety attacks, detachment from reality, feeling weird being in my own body, detached from myself. Everyday I feel like crying, or I get so mad I feel like throwing something against the wall. And normally I am sooo not like that! This isn't me, I feel like I'm losing my own identity because this isn't myself, its Yasmin controlling my life. I never wanted to take them in the first place, I only started when my gyno diagnosed me with polycystic ovarian syndrome. So after reading all your stories and confirming that this is definitely what's led to my horrible life lately, I've thrown away all of my pills and am stopping them completely. I will visit a homeo doctor and experiment with some natural treatments. THIS PILL IS EVIL! It will ruin your life, stop while you can!!

I started taking Yasmin 20 days ago (for pregnancy prevention, and I had heard only good things about Yasmin including great skin, weight loss, and less or no mood swings). After a few days I noticed that my breasts had grown about a cup size (I had easily gone from a size A cup to B in about a week or 2), my skin broke out more especially around my chest area, but then cleared up within the week, also I had noticed some mood changes. As the week progressed and I continued on the pill, I began feeling nausea, i had constant diareha, and trouble sleeping. My moods have been off the charts. I used to love spending time with my boyfriend and his family, and lately all i want to do is stay home and i have constant anxiety and dilusions that his family hates me (which is not in any way true) i am paranoid, and 100% anti-social. I dont feel like myself anymore, the depression is only worsening and I wake up crying. The only way to calm myself down is by drinking, so now I fear that i may start developing a drinking problem. I am taking the last pill today and then i will stop Yasmin FOR GOOD! I am considering having an IUD with no hormones because i dont think my body can handle anymore hormones in my system. Good luck to anyone on this pill, as for me, i need to stop for the sake of my relationship, my body, and my sanity!
