1. Blood Pressure 180/120 resulting in an emergency room trip
2. Weight gain of 25 POUNDS! Most/all of which was water and came off within the first week of being off from Yasmin.
3. Bloating and extreme water retention. See # 2.
4. Severe leg muscle cramping and foot pain
5. A mental feeling of not caring and general fogginess
6. Complete loss of libido
7. Acid reflux (probably from the diuretic in Yasmin)
8. General weakness in my muscles (there were times that I could barely open a revolving door).
I was on Yasmin for a year. I have been off for one month. I am still on blood pressure meds, but they don't think the Yasmin is out of my system. Has anyone else gotten hypertension from Yasmin and if so, how long did you have to be on blood pressure meds?
Some of my symptoms are getting better after a month, and some are not. If anyone is reading this to decide whether or not to take Yasmin, please don't. You may not have any symptoms right away and you may think you feel great, but that is the scariest part. When symptoms come on gradually, you hardly notice them until you are in the hospital emergency room.

I HAVE BEEN ON YASMIN FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW, EVER SINCE I STARTED DATING MY BOYFRIEND. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY MIGRAINES INCREASED TO AT LEAST ONE IF NOT MORE A WEEK AND EVERYDAY I DON'T HAVE A MIGRAINE I STILL HAVE A LESS SEVERE HEADACHE. I HAVE TERRIBLE HEARTBURN OR ACID REFLUX DAILY, AND EVERY TIME I GET IN A CAR THAT IM NOT DRIVING I GET REALLY SICK. I HAVE BEEN TO MY DOCTOR SEVERAL TIMES AND SEEN A NEUROLOGIST. I TIRED TOPAMAX AND LAMICTAL WITH NO SUCCESS! AND I FEEL LIKE IM POPPING MIGRAINE PILLS LIKE CANDY, CAN ANYONE WHO HAS GONE THROUGH ANY OF THIS TELL ME IF THEIR HEADACHE PAIN STOPPED AFTER QUITTING THE PILL? THANKS SO MUCH!

I have been on Yasmin for exactly a year now; I switched to it from my last BC because I was having periods for 2 to 3 weeks at time. Yasmin has fixed my period regularity but since then I have had ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE. That is really really weird for me... so naturally I was freaking out and thinking that maybe something was wrong with me or with my relationship with my bf, until one of my friends told me that she started having the same problem when she started taking Yasmin. Now, after reading this site I feel even better about what's going on with me. I am afraid to switch pills again, though because I had so many problems before. I just want my normal sex drive back!!
Also, has anyone else experienced chest pain?? I have sharp pains in the right side of my chest and in my right arm. It has only recently started and I thought, at first, that it might have something to do with my acid reflux but after reading everyone's comments it sounds like it might have something to do with Yasmin. I would appreciate any comments or advice!

I think maybe you all need to consider - The side affects you mention could be because you are a woman!! The following side affects that women search for and try to find answers for are all typical symptoms that I have had all my life as a woman. Whether on birth control, off birth control, pregnant or not. My life circumstance, relationship, age all make a difference. At any given time I could blame these symptoms on "birth control" but I don't think it is that simple.
-anxiety/mood swings/erratic behaviour
-headaches
-weight gain
-cramps, water retention, swelling etc.
Anyway, I suggest you all try to be reasonable and consider other possible causes of your symptoms? Exercise, eating right, relaxation, relationship building, all of these things can eleviate MOST of these symptoms. By the way, been on Aviane and switched to Yasmin, no difference, sex drive is actually increased, feel good not symptoms if anything , better now and had serious cystic acne and is now gone.

Lauren- May 2005 through August 3, 2007: The following is my daughter’s story which I put on paper so that she could bring it with her to the gynecologist in case I couldn’t be with her. I didn’t want her to forget anything. Someone suggested that I post it to a website:
The most recent issue seems to have started when she first went away to college in the fall of 2005. She came home one weekend with a stomach virus (vomiting, nausea), but it seemed to never completely go away. She was taken to the ER a few times, just to be treated for dehydration and sent home because there was 'nothing wrong with her'...Over the next few months she seemed to constantly feel sick, nauseous, fatigued, and get a lot of headaches. We took her to her primary care doctor, who did blood work and treated her for heartburn, acid reflux, etc.. During this time, she actually had appendicitis and had her appendix removed. After that she continued to feel sick. So we moved on to the gastroenterologist who ran many tests: cat scan endoscopies, more blood work, and were told that they couldn't find anything wrong. Then we started with a nutritionist to help her eat healthier and hopefully reduce the nausea which subsided occasionally but never let up. Nothing there helped. Then it was back to another gastroenterologist with no results. Over this time, anxiety was hitting her big time. She was finishing up finals in her first year of college and was constantly skipping classes because she was too nauseous to get out of bed for her 8:00 classes. Home for the summer - no relief. She decides she couldn't go back to her college for her 2nd year so she enrolled in community college - not exactly the plan, but at least she was on course with her classes and doing well. Still stressed and nauseous, we started with the neurologist who prescribed many medicines and ordered an MRI, which showed nothing (no problems, not no brain!). Back to the primary care doctor who finally diagnosed her with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which fit the current symptoms of nausea, severe diarrhea while vomiting and the finale: passing out. So, back to the state college for 2nd semester of sophomore year. But the medication for IBS was making her too sleepy to get through the day, so she discontinued it. The symptoms had subsided a bit but towards the end of the school year got worse again - just in time for finals, again. During that semester at school, she sought counseling at school which seemed to help her stress level, but she still had daily ‘melt-downs’, so the therapist sent her to a psychiatrist for meds. The doctor started her on the lowest dose (25mg) of Zoloft. As she started to feel a bit better, they increased the Zoloft over the next few months until she was at 100 mg. Home for the summer, the symptoms came and went, but about 2 weeks after she started the 100 mg, she confided in me that she was feeling depressed and actually had thought of 'not caring if she died'. We immediately took her to the psychiatrist upstate who had treated her at school and whom she had seen once since she left school. (She had also continued with the cognitive therapy at the college.) The doctor told her to start weaning off the Zoloft, but start Seraquel (another seratonin-based drug). She also said she was going on vacation and Lauren needed to be seen often as she switched medications, so she advised us to find another psychiatrist closer to home to monitor her progress. So the new doctor put her on Wellbutrin, continued to wean her off Zoloft, and continued her on the Seraquel. He also ordered blood work and a fasting glucose-tolerance test (all of which came back normal/negative). The symptoms got severely worse over the next 2 weeks: constant nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, fainting. On Monday, she spoke with the psychiatrist and he told her to stop all meds. We continued to believe that the recent symptoms were caused by either the psychotic meds themselves, still in her system or the withdrawal of the meds. By Tuesday night, she had been vomiting for almost 24 hours and I had to take her to the ER, not because I thought they could figure out what was wrong, but to re-hydrate her because she was becoming dehydrated. After 7 hours, and more blood work, x-ray, EKG, she was released and proceeded to get nauseous on the way home at 4AM. BUT, a very nice nurse came in while Lauren had fallen asleep and asked me why my daughter was on so many meds. I basically told her the above story and she asked me when Lauren started on birth control pills. I told her that I took her to my gyn. in May of 2005, before she was going off to college and we told him about the terrible menstrual cycle (heavy bleeding and 1 day a month home with cramps all through high school) and he put her on Ortho-tricycline low. At her 3 month check, she told him she was losing large amounts of hair. He changed her contraceptive to 'Ov-con 35'. In November, she complained of nausea and he switched her to Yasmin. She has been on it ever since. The nurse asked me if I was aware that every symptom that Lauren has had since October of 2005 could be a side effect of oral contraceptives!! She told me about a book to buy, written by Dr. John Lee about hormones and imbalances. She told me not to stop the b.c. pills abruptly, because since they are synthetic hormones, and with what her body was going through, it might put her into an hormonal chaos, similar to a full-blown menopause! So we are now reading the book, waiting to do saliva- testing and trying to see a gyn. to help us. Her own gyn. has a personal family emergency and is on a temporary leave of absence (as we found out when his office canceled her yearly check-up twice in the last 10 days). We are trying to get her in with one of the other doctors. She cannot start a 3rd year of college still feeling ill!
Added to the above is the fact that my husband’s sister called to see what was going on with Lauren after she got a phone call from her mother. It turns out that my niece, Heather (age 23), has been making the rounds with the doctors and having testing done (MRI, blood work, etc.,) because she has been nauseous and passing out. Guess what medicine she is taking…..Yasmin!
This is the list of most of the medicines (besides the 3 oral contraceptives) that she has been on during the last 27 months because of the side effects of Yasmin, and no doctor suggests she stop her oral contraceptive pills for a few months!
Prochloroperaz (5mg), Topamax (25mg), Prevacid (30mg), Zofran (4mg), Omeprazole (20mg), Amitriptyline (25mg), Amitriptyline (50mg), Inderal (60mg), Propranolol (10mg), Amitriptyline (10mg), Sertraline (Zoloft) (25mg), Sertraline (Zoloft) (50mg), Metoclopramide (5mg), Sertraline (Zoloft) (100mg), Seroquel (25mg), Wellbutrin (150mg), Dicyclomine (10mg), Compazine (severe reaction: Extrapyramidal), and other anti-nausea meds in 4 trips to the ER (one due to the reaction to Compazine!)

About a week ago I started to feel like there was a lump in my throat. After a few days my esophagus started to feel like to was swelling up. I went to my doctor the next day and was treated for acid reflux. I found it odd that the only time I felt better was when I was sleeping flat. The swelling in the esophagus was so bad it times it felt like someone was chocking me. I had bouts of dizziness and was light-headed often. After 5 days I finally googled my symptoms along with Yasmin. I have been on this pill since March of last year with little to no side effects. I called my doctor when I saw the allergic reaction information for Yasmin. She told me to just stop taking the Yasmin and to take Benedryl if the symptoms were too bad. Has anyone else suffered from the same symptoms as me from taking this med? And if so, how were you treated and how long before you felt better?

i have been off yasmin for about a month now after taking it for 3 months...i have experienced many side effects that made me stop taking it :upset stomach, acid reflux, awful belching, fluid retention, extreme thirst, fatigue, mood swings etc.
After I stoped taking it , many of the effects have gone except for the upset stomach and the belching, i hope this will get better some time soon otherwise i'll be going crazy...

Sarah, Sophie,
Tonight, when I laid down, and on a few other occassions, I have this really heavy feeling like its hard to breathe as if someone were sitting on my chest? Is this like either of your sensations? This follows this fluttery aching squeezing sensation I've had since yesterday morning...
Any other ladies out there who have developed this problem?
I can't believe this-the acid reflux, the plugged up achey ears, and now this chest pain (last 6 months)/been off of Yasmin for 2 months....went onto Orthocept but I think I just have to get off of all bcp's.

SARAH-
You really do still have chest pains after 8 months of being off of Yasmin? And an irregular heartbeat? Its so strange that several women are complaining of this. Its onset must definately be related to Yasmin...Just today, I laid down because I've had this constant ache/squeezing sensation under my left breast which feels like it moves back and fourth across my chest. I have read so much that suggests these symptoms are linked to risk of heart attack and stroke? I'm almost livid that your Doctor just told you it was anxiety. I have now read so much with so many people saying that is what their Doctor told them and my RN suggested the same when I knew all these symptoms were related to the Yasmin. Did you ever have EKG or ECG or XRAY?
SOPHIE-Acid reflux? You know what blew my mind...two years ago, not long into starting on this pill-I had an upper GI done for acid reflux and discovered I had hiatal hernia! Never until reading other women talking about it that Yasmin could also now be linked to this? And now severe chest pains? Does it feel like squeezing sensation? How old are you may I ask?
How can the chest pains just be anxiety? I know a few people who landed in the emergency room following chest pains to just discover that it was anxiety but this has now been going on long enough on and off that it sounds more like un-stable angina or something else-at least in my case. I have to go and get this checked out. Please let me know if/what any tests you have had?
Many many thanks. j

Oh my gosh!!! i am STUNNED looking at this page. I have been on Yasimin for about six months...and in that time everything has gone down hill. I haven't gone off yet b/c I honestly thought it there was something else wrong with me but I am getting off this pill quickly!
I was in the ER Friday night for chest pains...they did an ECG and chest xray and put it down to bad acid reflux as a result of anxiety! I have been complaining about dizziness and headaches for months and I too get sharp pains in my legs. I just can't believe this can all be linked to this pill! Can anyone tell me how long it takes before the symptoms go away? _Jackie

I did have some pretty severe sinus and throat problems in the 1 month that i was on this pill. It still hasnt cleared completely. I have sore throat, dry throat, pain behind ears. My ENT did an endoscopy to check if i have acid reflux or post nasal drip. But there was nothing wrong there. So he has concluded that this might be because of hormonal prob. My family doc told me that before periods, my fluid retention might be going up and this can cause a feeling of a lump in throat and sinus problems. all docs have told me to wait till the hormones sort themselves out.

I met my ENT doctor today. He checked my throat using laser technique and said that my throat is as such a textbook throat..its perfect no problem whatsoever. No acid reflux, no post nasal drip yet my sore throat is the same. So finally he agreed that it might be related to hormones. And told me to wait coz my gynaec has also told me to wait for 6 months and do a hormone levels test again. my hormone levels were not slighlty different that normal about a month back. Hope this helps some other ladies out there who have had sore throat after taking yasmin.

Yasmin has been hell for me. When I first took Yasmin, breakthrough bleeding has occured for 2 months (i expected this, and it is somewhat common). I always had migrane headaches without taking BC, but while on Yasmin i haven't experienced any less, or any less painful migrane headaches. About 4 months in, i start to feel pressure on my esophagus; at the time, I didn't think much of it. About halfway through the 4th month, I realize my eating habits have changed drastically. I feel full all the time, and unwilling to eat any food because of the pain and pressure i felt on my esophagus. Then it hit me, completely while i was on vacation. I was vomiting non-stop due to acid reflux, because nothing could go into my system, even water. Acid reflux has continued to effect my life while on Yasmin. I've gotten an Upper G.I done to only find irritation on my esophagus, which i believe is surely from taking Yasmin, because i've never had any other digestive problems before taking a BC pill. Now, i'm on Ortho-Tri cyclen lo, I've only been taking it for about 3 days though. At the moment I'm experiencing EXTREME migrane headaches, and this is what I assume is from withdraw, hopefully it will be gone for good when my body gets used to Ortho-lo.

hi abs528,
can you tell us what the reason was for your throat ache? I too had a very bad sore throat after i started taking yasmin , and now after being nearly 4 months off the pill, my throat still hurts sometimes. my doc thought it is related to acid reflux so made me do a upper GI series which turned out to be normal . then the GI specialist recommended that i take pepcid(high dosage) for a few months. but the sore throat seems to get worse 1-2 weeks before my periods i.e after 4 weeks but then i dont actually get the periods till about 6-7 weeks. my gynac is doing hormonal and thyroid tests but i havent got the results yet. one more doc i had seen sometime back said that mostly the sore throat is related to the hormone estrogen which causes bloating and swelling of my throat.
So all in all everyones confused about the exact reason for my throat ache and moreover nobody believes that yasmin trigerred it off :(((
any insights will be appreciated.
thanks all..

I've been on Yasmin for about 8 or 9 months and have experienced anxiety, eye-twitching, onset of acid-reflux, a couple of episodes of deep depression, worsening of allergies, increased congestion, aching neck, flushing, poor muscle tone, and days where I felt too weak to do much of anything. For the most part these symptoms fluctuate for better or for worse over the course of my cycle. I admit some days I feel great, but unfortunately it seems as though most of the time I'm either miserable or have low mood and energy. I've tried a number of things, like vitamins, better diet, etc... My next hope is accupuncture therapy. Perhaps these awful migraine/headaches will finally cease.

hi justme. thanks for ur reply. i too have the same thing. sometimes i hear a click when i gulp.
yes i did go to a GI specialist. had a upper GI series done too which was normal. so GI thought that the problem is not acid reflux. also i feel better if i take steam and use nasonex spray. still was prescribed prevacid for abt 20 days or so and then later was told to switch to pepcid 40 mg daily which i have been now taking for abt 3 months. after i stopped yasmin the sore throat got better but everytime period is due it comes back.
family doctor told me that the throat lining becomes swollen before periods due to estrogen and fluid retention. so have to cut down on salty foods before periods r due.
thanks for ur reply. helps to know that i am not the only one on this forum who keeps on asking about sore throat :)

hi all..i had taken yasmin in jan this year (only for a month). then becoz of the side effects i stopped. first month after stopping was ok, the next month my periods came abt 2 weeks late and i started getting a feeling that something was stuck in my throat and throat felt dry. i used to feel the same when i was on yasmin. meanwhile when i was on yasmin my doc thought my throat irritation was related to acid reflux so she made me do a upper gi series which turned out to be normal. since the time my last period was late some of the side effects that i had on yasmin seem to be slowly coming back(not with the same intensity though)
anyone has any suggestions?
i also had severe eye twitches but that went off after i started taking multivitamin and minerals pill everyday.

I have been taking Yasmin for 2 weeks now. After about 3 days of switching to Yasmin from Ortho-Tri Lo, I noticed a itchy rash spreading all over my body. I didnt even think this had to do with the Yasmin. I also started to notice shortness in breathe, trouble falling asleep, and acid reflux, none of which I had ever experienced before. Still at this point I did not believe they were all related. I went to my MD to find out what the rash spreading all over my body was, he wasn't sure what it was either. He gave me a steroid pack and figured it would clear up on its own. Now, 9 days later, the rash is still here and I am getting new symptoms. Now I'm extremely nautious and dizzy. I have missed a week of work due to these issues. I just today found this web site and figured all these symptoms must be related. I called my gyno and explained to him my problems, he told me to stop taking Yasmin immediately. I hope these symptoms will stop now that I stopeed taking the pills. Lets hope so at least.......I am glad I found this site it helped me alot

Hi All,
I am 1 month off yasmin now. Had taken it for only a month.
In this 1 month i got better and better. but my periods are due end of this week and for past 1-2 days i am getting tingling sensation in my chest (right side below breast bone).
Also while on yasmin i had developed something like acid reflux which had also got better in this 1 month. now i feel that is coming back again. Also i got ringing in a ear but that went off in a day.
Can this be because my periods r due?

Hi All,
I had taken yasmin for 1 month and now i am abt 3 weeks post yasmin. During the month my throat started getting more and more irritated, severely dry. Especially in the mornings throat was so dry that it used to hurt. I got a upper GI series done which was normal, to rule out acid reflux.
After 3 weeks now, my throat still hurts(although not as much as when i was on the pill) and my cheeks and whole face feels strained and painful. Did anyone else have this problem? Do you think i should maybe get my thyroid checked, becoz i have a hyperthyroid anyways and my weight is also such that i cant afford to lose anymore weight.
Thank you all for posting ur side effects, becoz of u all i havent gone thru a lot of bad things becoz of yasmin.

I am one week off yasmin now (had it only for a month). My burping has reduced but not completely gone. Plus i am getting constipated for past 1-2 days. Is this normal after i am off the pill? Also yesterday night i couldnt sleep well, was sweating a lot and felt my heart was pounding. This hasnt happended to me when i was on the pill.Otherwise i seem to be getting better. After stopping the pill(for a week now) is it normal that new side effects can show up.
Thanks all.
If it wasnt for ur postings i wouldnt have known that my sore throat, acid reflux was caused by yasmin.

Guest-
try taking vitamin C and prilosec OTC for the burping and acid reflux. I still burp once and a while but it's not nearly as bad as it was before. I've been off Yasmin for about 3 weeks. Also, Orange Juice tends to make me burp more than normal...not sure if it's the same for you.

Hi to all those ladies who r off this pill,
For those of you who had acid reflux, gas, burping and sore throat. How much time does it take for the pill to go out of the system and relieve the above symptoms? My sore throat is only 20% better and my burping dont know when it will get better. I had the pill for only a month and am off it for only 3 days so i dont expect a miracle but want to know ur experiences about when ur reflux got better.

I have chronic sore throat, burping, sore gums after i started on yasmin. Had a upper gi series xray done for the acid reflux which came out to be totally normal. Only change in my life was taking yasmin so i guess the sore throat and the reflux might be related to that. Anyone had the same side effects?

hello all,
I was on Yasmin for like 5 months. I had missed 2 pills and followed the instructions by taking two then the following day 2 more. However, the next day on my way to work I passed out on the train. I thought maybe taking too many was too much so I stopped. The following day I got tingling/numbness on the left side of my body. I went to see a cardiologist but they found nothing. I've been to the ER twice and they found nothing also. Now I'm working w/ an internist who discovered acid reflux but not the tingling/ now its turned into burning sensations which I feel through my back. I too feel this is related to the pill. However, I'm going to Neurologist on friday. I'm also having a stress test done as well as an MRI of the spine. I'm missing days of work because I almost fainted at work then I was sent home. I had extreme fatigue and weakness and could hardly walk. Did anyone else experience this? Does anyone have suggestions to help me cope? I'm a single mom and one paycheck away from being on the street.

Hello Ladies,
I have been on Yasmin for a little over 6 months now and was planning on stopping it due to wanting to have another baby. Well, after reading the posts here, I now realize that some of my symptoms MUST be from yasmin.
I have experienced the following while on yasmin:
- chest pain
- heartburn / acid reflux (sp?)
- increased anxiety (I already have a problem with this)
- dizziness when going from a sitting on the floor to standing position
- easily agitated / more depressed at times
- shortness of breath at times (easily winded).....I felt out of breath after helping my kids clean their rooms today and vacumming - this is not usual for me
- muscle aches and weakness / pains
- fatigue
- spotting in between periods
- cramps when it is not time for my period
- heart palpitations - skipping beats sometimes, too
Anyway, I had 2 yellow pills left in this packet and was going to finish them, but I just flushed them.
Yes, I am scared of the side effects that I have read about from stopping yasmin, but I guess I am just going to just do it. I was on another BC years ago...Lo Ovral, I think and I do not remember ANY side effects from stopping, but then again, I became pregnant the next month!
I am scared of weight gain. (Luckily, I have not gained any while on yasmin)
I am scared of breaking out and having that increase my depression, BUT it only makes sense that my INCREASED ANXIETY and BEING ON THE VERGE OF PANIC ATTACKS MORE FREQUENTLY are from yasmin. I do have medication to help anxiety, so if I get anxious while off the yasmin, I can use that until I regulate.
You know what? I DO NOT REMEMBER READING THESE SIDE EFFCTS OF YASMIN because my mom and sister always tell me Not To Read the pamphlet because I might talk myself into havng the effects or it might make me nervous due to my anxiety and panic disorder, but now after reading these posts, I understand why I have just NOT FELT NORMAL. I keep thinking I have something medically wrong with me.
Thank you for your support by just being here and posting here:)

I have been taking yasmin for about 8 months now and have developed a lot of the symptoms that you girls have posted. I was wondering if anyone else has developed Acid Reflux while on this pill. I never had trouble with heartburn or acid reflux at all in the past and suddenly I have full blown symptoms and on daily medication for it. Of course reflux disease can be exacerbated by stress/anxiety. Great. I have 2 pills left in the pack and then i'm going off. I'm glad to have read these posts before attempting to go off it should I develop more side effects. Here goes nothing!!!!!

I have been on Yasmin for 2 1/2 years - and I always thought it was a blessing. I had very heavy, irregular periods before Yasmin, and now they are light and regular. The only thing that showed up on a test during the first year was a slightly higher triglyceride level, but it was still healthy.
However, last December I had what I thought was a heart attack. I went to the ER with palpitations, and they told me that I had high blood pressure, pulse, and low blood oxygen. After sitting in ER for about 30 minutes everything went back to normal, they said I had acid reflux and prescribed medication for that. The problems never really went away, and I have been to see my doctor at least once a month with different symptoms all the time. Before this I only went to the Dr once a year for my pap - I never got sick! Ever! She told me it was stress and anxiety, and didn't even look into anything else even though I insisted it had to be more than that. Every time I go to see her my blood pressure is always normal, as is everything else.
Sometimes when I am sitting at my desk at work or lying in bed reading I will start to panic for no reason at all and feel like I can't breathe, when if fact I have no problems breathing at all. I also get colds and allergies when I never had these problems before.
I'm not overweight, and I do cardio exercise everyday with no side effects so the Dr's rule out any heart problems. I never thought to blame Yasmin for my problems, and maybe I should make a switch to something else.
Has anyone switched to another BCP with better results?

Hi Ladies
I am now Yasmin-free for three days after taking this poison for four years. I have had so many side effects in the past years and had no idea I was taking something daily that was making me miserable. I developed acid reflux, heart palpitations, panic attacks, exteme mood swings, increase in migraines, fatigue and total lack of sex drive. I am lucky to have a very patient and understanding husband. My personality has changed 100% and I am tired of being sick! If I wasn't for finding this website several days ago, God knows how long I would have continued.
In the past three days I have suffered with menstrual cramps, very sore breasts, clumps of hair loss and a migraine so far, BUT my sex drive has SOARED and I cannot believe it. I hope and pray the withdrawl symptoms will subside.
I am rather dissapointed with my OBGYN office. I called my OB to advise her I had stopped this pill and of course could not talk to her, so I had to speak to a nurse. The nurse totally dismissed my side effects and said she could not possibly believe it was the Yasmin. She demanded to know where I was receiving this information. I told her I received it first hand from women on this website. She giggled and said she had not heard such a thing and said I had to come in to be changed to another pill..... No thanks, no more hormones for me. I will just need to think of another alternative.
Good luck to all of you :)

Hi I'm a 35 year old living in London, UK. I started to take Yasmin approximately 6 months ago. These are the changes I've noticed:
- tiredness
- headaches - the type that you go to bed with and wake up with
- hot flushes
- increased appetite
- acid reflux
- disturbed sleep
I hate this pill and I'm being tested at the moment to determine whether it's Yasmin causing these problem, but I KNOW its Yasmin.

I am a 35 y.o. mother of two. A year and a half after having my second child, I was diagnosed with PCOS (January of 2004) after telling my doctor that I was suffering from cystic acne, very irregular periods (if i got one at all), hair developing on my chin and upper lip, etc. My doctor ordered some blood tests and a sonogram and sure enough....cysts all over the place! Since I have had problems with hormone-induced birth control methods in the past, my GYN started me on Prometrium to help get my cycle regulated and to "ease" my body into taking the pill before starting me on Yasmin. I began taking Yasmin about 6 months later as my doc raved about this being an excellent treatment for women with my condition. HE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG!!!! While Yasmin did away with my acne and regulated my periods, the side effects that I suffered far outweighed any positive affects it could have had and were far worse than any side effects I'd ever experienced on other forms of the pill. I suffered with depression, uncontrolled (not to mention untimely) bouts of anger/rage/crying, severe acid reflux, ZERO libido (much to both my and my husbands dismay), vaginal dryness, dry eyes and nasal membranes, severe night sweats, respiratory problems (I was drying out which was irritating my lungs and giving me false asthma symptoms and I've never had asthma), very dry skin, "phantom" abdominal cramping, unexplained memory loss, insomnia (aye yaye yaye! the sleepness nights), anxiety, severe headaches which increased in both frequency and intensity as time went on, frequent leg and back cramping, intermittent and unexplained bloating and water retention (isn't this supposed to be a diuretic?)....you name it, and I've pretty much experienced it over the past 6 months. I even went to see my regular doctor explaining my symptoms. He ordered a series of blood tests, potassium and calcium tests, liver enzymes, etc., etc., etc....everything came back NORMAL! I though I was going crazy! After on the first 3 months taking the pill I went back to see my GYN to tell him that something just wasn't quite right and that I think he should put me on something else. His response...."Give it time. Your hormones have to level out. This is one of the most successful pills out there for your problem...." blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada. I listened (like an idiot) and stayed on it hoping to "level out" at some point, which never happened. My turning point was in January of this year, when in an uncontrolled bout of rage, I exited my car at a red light to confront a male driver who had been honking the horn behind me (apparently I was supposed to drive through it) and then proceeded to call me a stupid b*&%h out of his car window, at which point I ran over to his car window and dared him to get out and say it again!! He promptly rolled up his window and sped through the red light. I got back into my car, drove home and sat in my driveway and cried for nearly a half hour out of sheer exasperated frustration. I threw away the remaining pills, called my GYN and told him he was a quack and could kiss my a$$ and have never looked back. I've only been off the pill since mid-January, but I've already seen a drastic difference in the symptoms that I mentioned earlier and some have gone away all together. I'm still having problems with the anxiety and the anger/crying bouts, but not as often and not as severe in intensity. Ladies trust your bodies....if you feel that something is wrong, it is! No one knows your body like you do so don't be afraid to tell your doctor that you want something different.....they work for you, not the other way around. As far as a class action suit goes, someone please let me know as soon as one gets started and I am so there!!! This pill is a danger to women and needs to be taken off the market all together. Please feel free to email with any information on upcoming litigation or if you have any questions.

I too am glad to find this posting. I started taking yasmin to control heavy menstrual cycles. Everything went well until I got to the inert pills in the first pack. I took the pills at night just before going to bed. About two hours after taking the third inert pill I woke up thinking I was having a heart attack!
I called my Ob/Gyn, He referred me to the emergency room.
I have gone through three weeks of thinking I was falling apart. Panic attacks, shortness of breath, acid reflux, heart racing, spacey(can't remember things, feeling really strange)
headaches. nausea, flu like weakness and pain, pain in the neck, chest and left arm. I have been off the pill for three weeks and the symptoms are subsiding but I'm still having problems. My OB still thinks it's all in my head. Sorry, after reading about all the others experiencing the same things, I'm convinced it's the Yasmin.

All -- stop taking YASMIN now if you have any of these symptoms- I wrote in a few days ago with all the same complaints. I went off the pill 3 days ago. Within 24 hours my personality was back to normal. I was no longer depressed or angry, just normal! My physical symptoms are now starting to subside. No new acne has erupted at all and my cysts are healing. My water weight is 70% gone and the tingling in my legs, foot cramps, migraines, and chest pains, and acid reflux and nightly vomiting are all gone. I am so relieved! IT IS THE PILL! GET OFF OF IT AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER TODAY! I WORRY ABOUT THIS PILL --- IS IS LIKE POISON TO SOME OF US! Good luck to everyone and god bless...

My experience with Yasmin was very similar to the one posted by "vpompon19" on October 26th 2007.
I took Yasmin for only a month. The day after I started, I had those symptoms:
- Nausea that last day and night
- Complete loss of appetite.
- Extreme fatigue
- Sleeping over 8 hours and still feeling tired
- Brain fog - inability to concentrate on anything
- Irritability
- Hypersensibility - I would cry for nothing...
- Feeling extremely nervous and nauseous when I had only half a green tea!
- Heartburn (I suffer from acid reflux but it was almost gone until I started Yasmin)
- Depression
When i stopped, I had the most painful period I've had for at least 8 years.
Plus I immediately started an urinary tract infection (which I never had before).
Two weeks later I experienced unbearable back pain. The doctor told me I had a herniated disk but I didn't force or had any trauma so I was sceptical. It turned out to be mononucleosis!
So thank you not Yasmin for having wasting at least 2 months of my life (so far), not mentioning the fear I had a more serious disease... No more birth control pill for me ever. I took another brand (Marvelon) for 7 years, then I stopped one year and my Irritable Bowel Syndrome disappeared. But my acne came back (even though I took Accutane when I was 15 - which I'm sure is the cause of my uncontrollable acid reflux).
I found out there are natural, safer and cheaper contraceptive methods. Don't wait until your doctor or the education system tell you about them because you'll be dead already.
