I have been on yasmin for about 5 years. I loved it to begin with but just recently I have been having horrible side effects that i just realized could be related. I just thought i was a 21 yr old with problems. i am having heart palpitations, hair loss, insomnia, anxiety, vision problems, UTI's, lightheadedness and blackouts, and CHRONIC migraines. I am having about 3 migraines a week! they are disrupting my life. it is weird that i was fine on the meds for so long and they are just now resulting in this. I am stopping the pill as of today and i am going to talk to my doctor about other options. i am thinking about ortho tri cyclin lo. i have to be on a birth control because i have had endometriosis and my doctor said it is less possible to come back if i am on a birth control. she mentioned the shot but i have heard bad stories about that too and i don't think i want to go there.

I had my first daughter in 2004 and my doctor put me on Yasmin for 3 1/2 years i took it and done really well. I had my second child in January of this year and then was put on ocella(a generic). About a month after I went back on it I noticed these horrible pains in my chest and back somewhat like indigestion but I could drink a sprite or two and belch it out. Then it got worse and worse to the point of vomiting for three or four hours straight after I ate and unbearable pain. I went to my doctor and from there ending up in surgery in June of this year to have my gallbladder removed. Of course at the time of surgery I didn't have any insurance so now I am over $10,000.00 in debt due to a bc pill!!!!!!!! Needless to say I quit taking any birth control whatsoever and am now using condoms. The purpose for me putting my side effect on here is to say to all the ladies on Yasmin or the generic just switch or stop just because you dont have any side effects now doesn't mean you wont end up in surgery in a few years because of this horrible drug.

I've been on Yasmin(Ocella) since July. At first I had no side affects and then just last week, I had shortness of breath, tingling all over, warm sensations in my body, headaches and blurry vision. I had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. It also seems like I'm having all sorts of thoughts that are keeping me paranoid and not sleeping. It also seems like my left breast is slightly larger than my right. I've never had any problems like this before so as of today I'm taking myself of this birth control pill.

For the last 4 years --I have been on Yasmin. I stopped taking this pill a couple of month ago and could not be more relieved. I say this because during that time I had severe heart palpitations and anxiety attacks. They were so severe sometimes I would cry because I was so scared I was going to have a heart attack. A couple of years ago I went to a Cardiologist and told him about my heart racing, skipping a beat, and or course the constant never-ending heart palpitations. I took a stress exam, Ekg...etc all those test need to find the problem. They came up with nothing and basically said it was stress and anxiety. The Dr. gave me pills for anxiety and pill to slow my heart rate..which looking back was a joke!! Because it was really from Yasmin.I am so much better and happy to know that I was not just going crazy ..because that is how I truly felt. I was only on this medication because I too have ovarian cysts. I am too scared to go on any other birth control pill now. So if anyone out there is on this medication and has these symptoms..please stop this medication and know that you are not crazy. There are so many of us out there that have had these symptoms. Now I have to go to the Dr. and find out if there are any permanent damages to to any part of my organs.. so upset with this company and drug.

I'm a 19 year old college student and a I've been on Yasmin for about 3 years. I started the pill because after two major surgeries, my body was traumatized, leaving me with very heavy periods and feeling tired all the time. I started Yasmin and at first, was very happy with it. I didn't lose weight on it, but I didn't gain any weight, either, which is what happened when I tried taking other birth control pills. However, after my senior year, I went off to college, where the problems began. It seemed that anytime I was under stress, my anxiety and bad mood would amplify. I got mad at my boyfriend over small things to the point of wanting to break up with him. Thank goodness he was patient with me! I began having panic attacks and although I was living in horrible conditions at school, I just chalked it up to not being ready to move off, etc. I came home the next semester and had the same problems. Anytime my boyfriend and I get into an argument, I can feel myself get heated up and I become uncontrollably angry. I hate myself when this happens. I have also been very tired. Some mornings, I can't stay awake in class and since I've been on the pill, I have felt the need to take naps way more often than usual. I plan to stop taking this pill as soon as my month is up!

I have been on the Yasmin now for nearly three months. I have no energy, chest pains, shortness of breath, tenderness of my breast, ribs and I feel REALLY TIRED even after having a nights rest. I thought this was perhaps after having a toddler and using my energy up during the day from lifting him and swinging him. I feel slightly anxious about different things in my life, sometimes depressed. I though my headaches and chest pains were stress/work related and so was the fatigue. I am popping vitamin tablets like it is an addiction thinking that if I don't have them I am going to feel WORSE( anxious/depressed). I also could not understand why I was feeling so nauseous and having stabbing pains in my stomach. - thought again this was just stress related - acid build up. I am going to see my Doctor today and get off this tablet!!!! I would rather have the odd pimple on my face than feel like this.

I am a healthy 20 year old. I have been on Yasmin for a little over 2 years. When i began taking Yasmin, i immediately gained over 10 pounds. I Felt very nauseous every time i started a new pack. But the nausea only lasted 1 day, & the rest of the month was fine. After a year on Yasmin I became use to it ( I'm guessing) & The nausea went away. Now, 2 years into taking it, it has no negative side effects on me.

I recently went to my Gynecologist for a pap & my prescription refill. She handed me YAZ. Though i was grateful for free birth control, i cant help but feel that taking YAZ for the last week was a bad idea. I'm VERY moody, sick to my stomach (even as I'm writing this, I'm choking it down), tired & bloated. I HATE YAZ!!! If all these effects are coming on now ( 1 week into taking it) i cant imagine ho much WORSE its gonna be next week.

I will be calling my gynecologist tonight, to ask if its okay to just switch back to Yasmin, in the middle of the YAZ pack. (hopefully she says yes)

I will never go off YASMIN again.

Hello, my name is E. I have been taking Yasmin for 4 years now. Every month the week before my period for exactly 3-5 days I would feel crazy. Like my moods would change fast and extremely emotional. That was fun. Well, now I am having problems with my heart for the last month and a half. I have an irregular heartbeat, high pulse rate, and high blood pressure. I have been to the cardiologist and have been wearing a heart monitor 24 hours a day until I can get my Stress/Echo test done. My mother was the one to tell me to call my OBGYN and ask about my birth control and if this could be contributing to the problem. I called the nurse today and researched the side effects and problems women have been facing with this drug and was shocked. Could it be what did this to my heart? The nurse called me back and told me to stop taking the Yasmin/Ocella. Until I find out the reason for my heart problems I will not be using any birth control options, except condoms. Then, I will find out the appropriate method to be used for me. After I find out the results of my heart problems, I will repost to let all of the women know what came of all this. Until then, take care. E. (32 years old)

My daughter had switched from the birth control pill Low-Ogestrel-28 after about 2 1/2 years (no side effects at all then a little spotting mid cycle) so she saw her primary care and the dr. told her that her body had become used to that paticular pill and switched her to Yasmin. The first month was ok and then in the 2nd month I noticed a big change in her attitude..she became very short tempered during the entire month and then when she was on the placebo pills (the days prior to her period) she really became a crazy angry woman. When on the other bc the week prior found her more sensitive and crying...such a total flip in her nature.
Then on the 3rd month the vomiting began...nothing major at first - random maybe once a week and always in the morning...after juice or soymilk. So you explain it away by saying that it's first thing in the morning and theres more acid on your stomach or she was hungry when she went to bed and it's from that. She began having headaches around this time also..Ok so she stopped having anything but water with her English muffin first thing in the morning and things evened out with the stomach thing - for a little while. She was incredibly tired and had a weird sore throat - killer sore throat - never had strep before (she's 20 years old...) she got an appt. to see a N.P. in the dr. office and she asked me to go...while we were there I asked not only the medical assistant but the N.P. (nurse practitioner) about the law commercials that I had seen regarding Yasmin..they blew it off as just a bunch of ambulance chasers wanting money and that it was safe and effective. They were adamant about it. Ok I dropped it..after examination the NP told my daughter that her lymph nodes were enlarged and she had A. strep B. Mono C.all of the above. Tests ruled out Strep but we had a winner on Mono. While she had the week off from work I noticed depression along with the headaches and also the stomach problems came back. Always in the morning, but it became every morning now..we thought she was hungry and she would eat and feel fine and then about 5 minutes after finishing her breakfast with only a small amt. of water to go along with it she'd have a period where for the next 15 -30 minutes she'd either throw up (and once doing this would feel fine) or it would work itself out and she'd be fine. It had gotton to the point I don't know who dreaded the morning more her or me. We are now in the 4th month of Yasmin and this began to happen every single morning and then toward the end of the month it would start being random at nightime..no vomiting but feeling sick - like it had begun in the beginning with the morning stuff. It came to head the other day- Saturday October 10th 2009. We had gone on a overnight trip to see her grandparents and we had to leave early in the morning (4 am) so she took the pill after having a little something to eat (no liquids) by 2:30 that afternoon she all of a sudden felt like she was going to get sick..and boy did she - violently sick - then again at 6:30 - violently ill- projectile and again at 8:30. I got on the computer and started researching Yasmin....and it all came together. I told her no more pill...she is in a serious relationship and was using Yasmin not only for the terrible painful periods that she was having but for protection so we needed to take that into account...she was safe and she is now off that pill. She did not take one Sunday (11th) or Monday (12th) and I cannot tell you how much better she is. This was someone who had lived with a constant stomach ache for over 4 weeks...we could outfit a pharmacy with all the otc meds I have bought - pepto, rolaids, gaviscon, maalox, YOU Name it we have it in regards to stomach distress..and nothing really helped. A burp and feel better for a little while but it was always there..that low lying ache in the tummy. She spoke with a friend that works for a doctor on Sunday and told her about the Yasmin and the woman couldn't believe that she had been prescribed that..she told her to get off it immediately (she already had) and that the dr. that she works for will not prescribe Yasmin or yaz to any of his patients. My daughter's personality is back. She is laughing and happy and a totally different girl. Headaches are gone and most importantly NO stomach pain at all. Completely gone. She can eat and drink and no problems what-so-ever. She looked at me and said "I can't believe I lived like that for so long, I had forgotten what it felt like to feel good - like me". She is calling a Ob/Gyn practice this morning and hopefully will be seen by someone today. What a nightmare. My heart goes out to those of you that have posted and have had much worse things besides what my daughter has gone thru. The FDA needs to do something about this !! What can we do to get this information to them? DO NOT TAKE OR LET YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS TAKE YASMIN OR YAZ - IT IS HARMFUL.

Well I have been on Yasmin for over 6 years. My youngest child will be 7 in November...After I gave birth and went to my 6 week check up I weighed 145. I now weigh 167. I am very depressed, an emotional basket case, and to top everything else off my period has been going on for 2 weeks. Does this pill cause weight gain and the rest of the side effects? I requested that I be put on these at my 6 week check up because I heard on TV that in Germany the women lost significant amounts of weight....HELP

Like almost everyone else on here, I seem to be having a really bad reaction to this birth control pill! I started taking it shortly after I gave birth to my third baby because there is absolutely no way I can handle any more kids right now! Soon after I started taking it I noticed a lot of weird things going on with my body. Just walking up the stairs gets me out of breath and causes my heart to beat rapidly. Sometimes it starts to beat like this just from driving! I am also constantly nauseous (like morning sickness nauseous), have daily headaches, have no sex drive, and have acne! Up until I started taking Yasmin my skin was like porcelain and I could literally count the number of zits I got on one hand. Now my face looks like a freakin pizza!

I also go through phases of being really depressed and really angry. These mood swings are even worse than the ones I had during pregnancy! I have 3 healthy kids, a beautiful home, an amazing husband, wonderful friends...but I still cry all the time and want to die. I know that I am extremely blessed so there is absolutely no excuse for me to be feeling this way!

At the time I had passed all these things off as my hormones trying to adjust after being pregnant, even though I have never had any of these problems before when I had my other two babies. I also noticed that this was the first pregnancy where I wasn't able to shed any of my baby weight. It seemed no amount of diet or exercise could get it off, whereas with my 2 other pregnancies all I had to do was eat healthy and use the treadmill everyday and was back to my normal size before I knew it!

Now I realize that none of these things are due to having my baby at all but due to Yasmin! However, I have never used birth control pills before so this is my first experience with them. Is it possible that this is just a brand that reacts badly with me, or do all brands have side effects like this? I'm trying to decide if I should switch to a different pill or just stop taking any all together and just be extra careful with my husband! Regardless, I will definitely no longer be taking Yasmin!

I am so happy I stumbled apon this website. I thought I was losing my mind. I was on Yasmin for 3 long years and have been off for a month now. I am 37 and was on Triphasil 28 for 17 years (with no issues), my derm told me to switch my birth control to help my acne, worst decision of my life. I have lost all of my friends, my moods and me being paranoid all the time drove my friends away. I am so dry that I itch all the time. I have loss half of my hair, my scalp is sore and itches non stop. I have gained weight and my blood pressure is high. How do you go from a 34 year old normal woman to a 37 year old medical mess? YASMIN. every time I asked my doctors if it could be the pill I heard the same answer over and over NO! I was told that it was age and stress. Hello I am 37 not 97. Stress wouldn't you be stressed if all of a sudden you weren't the same person and no one had reasons why.Well I am no doctor but we cant all be making this up. I am hoping and praying that all of this isn't permanent and that I soon will grow my hair back and that my happy old self will come back. I wish doctors would stop prescribing this horrific drug!

I have been on Yasmin for around 5 months now and am absolutely fine for the three weeks of taking the pills, however as soon as i stop taking them on the pill free week i become extremely aggressive and emotional. I cry all the time and feel so depressed and angry. I feel myself become furious over the littlest things. I have also begun to have panic attacks over small things and have become scared of everything. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have been on Yasmin for over 5 years, and just thought that I was a hypochondriac. After starting Yasmin I experienced severe nausea and unrelieved hunger pains. I saw a gastroenterologist who performed an EGD and Colonoscopy at the age of 20. It was normal and I was placed on Protonix to help with the GI issues. Also I have severe joint pains in my knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. I have been tested for everything from Lupus to Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it was all negative. I get headaches, have little sex drive if any, my skin is not clearer than usual and nor has it been since starting Yasmin. Thanks to all those people who have voiced their concerns and shared their stories, it makes us feel less crazy. I threw out all my birth control pills last night and I am going to try another form of contraceptive. I mean my headaches and chest pains have gotten so bad that they have forced me to go to the ER on several occasions. I DO NOT THINK THE BENEFITS OF YASMIN OUTWEIGH THE RISKS ASSOCIATED.

Ladies:

I needed to post this warning right away:

I visited my gyno today (was able to get in for an ASAP visit), and she told me to get off of Yasmin IMMEDIATELY when I told her that I have had facial numbness etc.. She was very concerned, and here is why:

I have been experiencing migraine headaches with what are called "auras". I know it sounds weird, but you can look up "migraine auras" and you will find plenty of information.

I know that many of us have had these symptoms and not known what they were- numbness and tingling, visual disturbances, strange smells etc. This is what those symptoms are- migraine auras.

****According to my gyno, if you have auras you need to stop taking Yasmin or any other birth control right away.****

Getting these symptoms and continuing to take the pill, according to my gyno is (and I quote) "ASKING FOR A STROKE". They are warning signs that our bodies send out and it is extremely dangerous to keep taking ANY hormonal birth control, ESPECIALLY the combination pill.

If you had any further doubts, stop now. Please. I am not trying to scare anyone, I am just concerned and wanted to warn those who are experiencing these side effects.

Best of luck to all of you and hugs.

M.

Oh my... I thought I was the only one!!! I have been taking Yasmin for about 6 years as it was recommended to me as the new and safer birth control pill. From time to time I also stopped taking it since I was not in a relationship and didn't feel like I needed it. Every time I did I felt like my old happy self - Like I was a 16 year old again. Happy and loving life! Everyone wanted to be around me and I was afraid of NOTHING!

I knew then that birth control can cause depression, but no one ever speak about it, not then, not now. My friends didn't seem to change. I was the only one. I was the only one, I think, that became a boring person when taking it; boring and afraid of things. I met my husband during those few months I was not taking it... and I can for sure tell you all that I am not the same person he met back then.

I have been thinking about stop taking the pill for a long time now, specially since I hit depression much easier now since I had to move away from my family and friends (they are all in Sweden) to be with my husband (USA). I cry so easy! And can't face conflicts, and just want to sleep - nothing is fun. Some of the depression I have managed pretty good by stop eating grains and sugar, but it only does so much. You guys have pretty much convinced me that now is the time to quit. I will not take one single Yasmin ever again!

For those of you that are in a relationship - how did your special someone take this change as far as birth control. What are you using now instead? I have been thinking about a female sponge - anyone tested those?

There are many out there that suffers from medication and I am actually on the path to help people get off other drugs like statins because there are other things you can do than give doctors and pharmaceutical companies your money for feeling ill the rest of your life. There is a cure - they just don't want you to know about it. Who would have guessed that I needed to be saved from this craziness too!

I have been on Yasmin now since around 2004-2005.

I just recently started experiencing really severe mood swings, I would go so far as to say that I have become enraged over things that are so insignificant and that would normally would not bother me even on a bad day. This anger that usually starts right before my period made me start thinking that it might be from my birth control, even though it has only been an issue over the past six months. I have never in my life suffered from PMS, so this was very out of the ordinary for me, but I just assumed I was over stressed and ignored it.

I started looking up side effects of Yasmin, and came across this site which sent me into absolute shock.

Everything listed here by other people, I have experienced over the past four or five years. It all makes sense to me now after reading about other woman's experiences while taking this medication.

I started seeing a GI doctor in 2005 because of extreme diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, dizziness. They ran multiple tests and scans, I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy which showed irritation. I've been on multiple medications for what they assume is IBS. I was also diagnosed that same year with asthma because of extreme shortness of breath. I am on asthma medication and inhalers because I get very short of breath with exercise which was never an issue in the past. I was 110 pounds, and healthy and active in 2005. I then started to gain weight, and at my heaviest I reached almost 180 lbs (and I am only 5ft 2in tall).

I have since lost weight, but can't seem to get below 140 lbs no matter how much I try. In March of this year I started having extreme pain in my right upper abdomen, and was told I had gallstones and needed to have my gallbladder removed.

It is just makes me so angry to know that no one is doing anything about this and this medication is still being prescribed to women. It angers me that my doctor's knew that I was on this medication and never once questioned that it may be the birth control making me sick. I don't even think the doctor's are aware themselves.

I have been on birth control since I was sixteen to help regulate my periods, and I am now twenty-eight. I have always had difficulty with the pill and have tried many different types of birth control medications. My doctor recommended Yasmin to me because they though I might have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome even though the tests never confirmed it. I will take my chances because I am not taking birth control ever again!

I was on Yasmin for 5 years and have been off of it for 3. While on Yasmin I had a tearing sensation in my left thigh and it became a little red and swollen. Long story short I had a clot that increased in size quickly. I spent a week in the hospital and was told I was very lucky to have survived. After I was released I took the time to do the research and found out that Yasmin is a "Second Generation" birth control pill and that a letter was sent to the FDA by an organization called "Public Citizen" demanding that the FDA put additional warnings out that it doubled the chances of blood clots. This is all compared to "First Generation" birth control pills that have been around for quite some time and were found to be just as effective, but with a lower chance of blood clots. I wish I would have come across this information before I requested my doctor switch me to Yasmin in the first place. I chose Yasmin because of "the lesser side effects" that it advertises. Hope this helps any of you trying to make a decision about this drug.

I am so glad I found this website.

After 2 years of being on Yasmin/Ocella, I have realized that my symptoms were entirely from this horrible drug.

Symptoms I experienced on Yasmin/Ocella:

-HEARTBURN! I had to have an endoscopy to determine the damage caused to my esophagus, and was on hard core antacid drugs for months.

-UTIs!! I suffered from a UTI pretty much every time my fiance and I had sex, and my Gyno referred me to a urologist. Mind, I had NEVER suffered from these frequently in any other time in my life.

-Strange heart beats - heart skipped a beat often.

-Anxiety, to the point of dysfunction.

-Back aches, kidney infections.

-Bladder infections.

-Depression - for instance, lying in bed for hours after my alarm went off, not wanting to get up.

-NO sex drive. NONE.

TAKE THIS DRUG OFF THE MARKET.

I felt I should share my story, even though it is quite lengthy, since it is similar, and every story helps those who are still unsure.

I went on birth control at the age of 15. I tried several kinds, but all of them made me nauseous. I was on Mircette the longest, and seemed to be doing fine. Then around '03/'04 I started seeing a new ob-gyn, who told me that my problem was that I had a low tolerance for estrogen, and that was what was making me feel so nauseous. She said there was a new type of pill specifically for women like me called Yasmin that had very low doses of hormones. I was excited about starting the new pill, and did right away.

I continued taking Yasmin until about a year ago, when I switched to the generic of Yasmin, Ocella, due to the fact that my insurance didn't cover Yasmin and it was becoming expensive. On the Ocella, which I took for two months, I felt bloated like I had a basketball in my stomach, constipation, and other issues. I was told by the pharmacist that I was probably allergic to the additives that are sometimes in generic pills. So I decided to find out which birth control was covered under my prescription plan, call my gyno, and switch.

My gyno called in Loestrin Fe, but they filled it with the generic, Microgestin. I took this for approximately 3-4 months, and felt absolutely terrible, with panic attacks, crying, sleeping problems- the whole bit. So I thought that I should go back on Yasmin, no matter what the cost, and attempt to regulate again.

I went back on Yasmin six months ago, and though some of my symptoms have improved over how I felt on Microgestin, I am still a mess at times. I have moments when I am anxious and moments when I am absolutely joyful. I get really angry over little stuff, irritable and snappy. Then I get weepy and feel terrible about being snappy. Then I'm happy again. It's an emotional rollercoaster. I was never like this before- my moods were even, and I handled stress well. And I was always pretty happy-go-lucky.

Physically, I have ear fluttering/clogging/pressure/popping/pain. I'm getting fairly frequent migraines, which I never had before more than once a year. I, too, have numbness on the right side of my face in which it feels like my eyelid is swelling, neck stiffness and pain, and numbness of fingers and arm. I went to the ER a while back because I thought something was severely wrong due to symptoms of dizziness (vertigo) and right-sided numbness. I have severe TMJ and jaw pain, which I didn't have before, and allergies, which I also never had before. I have heart palipitations and sometimes random chest pain under or to the side of my breast. All of these symptoms have started to occur in the last six months after going back on Yasmin.

I went to an internist, who did blood tests, checking for thyroid issues and checking hormone levels. My thyroid was temporarily hyper, but my hormones were, according to the test, normal. But when the blood test was done, I wasn't experiencing any symptoms, so I'm not sure if it's accurate.

My yearly exam with my gyno is coming up in November, and I'm going to discuss these things with her, but I'm afraid she'll look at me strange for thinking that these symptoms are related to Yasmin...

Ironically, the only time it seems that I'm feeling pretty good is when I have my period! Which I guess would be when I have no hormones in me whatsoever! I feel happier and my sex drive goes back up, and my moods even out.

I am now considering, after reading these posts with all of you that were kind enough to share your stories, going off of Yasmin for good. I'm not sure what, if anything, my gyno is going to recommend, but I was considering trying an IUD instead...

i ve been taking Yasmin for almost two years and few months ago i notices brown spots under my eyes. At the beginning i thought it was just me being too tired or luck of sleep. But in the summer i noticed it was discoloration of the skin, brown spots under my eyes. I visited a dermatologist and he told me its side effects from the birth control pills and that there is no treatment and he only gave me a cream which will make it less dark. I am never ever taking birth control pills again. Also I ve put a lot of weight.

I too have been experiencing the same side effects listed by most of you. I have also been seeing a gastroenterologist for about 9 months now because of stomach issues. All symptoms point to gallbladder disease but the tests come back normal. I called my gyne today and they seem unconcerned with what I have told them and advised me to continue to take my pills until my annual visit in October. I'm done with this pack on Saturday and am thinking of going sans pills for the next month until my appt. Any advice on what pill I should switch to when I do see my dr.?

hI was diagnosed with severe endometriosis at 20 years old had my first laparoscopy at 21 (September 2003) and my second at 23 (January 2005). After my first laparoscopy I was placed on Yasmin by my GYN who said it was a great drug and would help with my pain and clotting. I had just started dating my now husband and didn’t seem to have any side effects of from it. If I recall correctly at one point after my second surgery I stopped taking Yasmin, but after a lot after clotting went right back on it. I will be 27 Saturday so have been on Yasmin for the last 6 years.
My husband was a paramedic/EMT (so knows a little about this type of thing) before he joined the military 2 years ago and prior to that I lived close enough to home to keep the same doctors (even while at college). Now that we are a military family we have to jump through hoops to see a doctor, but would visit home every few months so I continued to see my same doctors. We recently had to move across the country so I am not able to do that and now have to see the military doctors or wait for approval to go off post. This week for the first time I ran out of my prescription so my husband and I decided I would just get off of it for a little while.
Sorry for the novel, but I am getting somewhere with this I promise! I caught a 24 stomach bug last week and can’t seem to recover from the nausea and dizziness so bad I barely stand up. Saturday would have been my last day on the pack, but since I was sick the last pill I took was Thursday. My husband thinks I am dehydrated, though can’t understand why after plenty of rehydrating including military rehydration packets. Something told me maybe I am having withdrawals from Yasmin (though I have never heard of withdrawals from birth control) and decided to look it up. After reading many forums which ultimately led me to medications.com I am thinking the following symptoms I have been experience the last year that doctors just can’t seem to figure out could be related to the Yasmin. My symptoms are:
• Low blood pressure (daily for the last 4 months and periodically over the last 6 years or so, going as low as 79/47 and consistently in the low 80’s over low 50’s in recent months)
• Excessive weight gain -25 lbs over the last year I started at 130 (still a little high for me, but have always had a slow metabolism) and had been that for at least 8 months prior. In September of 2008 the first 5 lbs came on, it’s starts with a fluctuation between 130-135 for a month or so than one day I am 135 and can’t go below that no matter what I do including exercise and eating right than fluctuation between 135-140 than 140-145, 145-150 and same thing up until now where I am 150-155 and seeming close to hitting the 155 mark. I have never been over 140 max and was only that as a kid after my parents divorce which I lost was never more than 128 tops. Oh this week when I was sick I threw up for a day and half and didn’t eat for 4 days and still gained 4 pounds, how is that?!?!?
• Extreme Fatigue
• Thirst ( which I can’t seem to quench no matter how much I drink)
• Dizziness
• Problems breathing (like I can’t catch my breath)
• Headaches
• Nausea
• Frequent urination
• Heart palpations
• Depression/Moodiness/Crying for no reason
• Breast pain
• Cellulite I never had before
• Ears hurt a lot (but checked out with no problem)
• And the last one I wouldn’t have mentioned but I too have the pain/numbness in my right arm going from my neck down to my leg and lots of pain with it. I was in a car accident a few years ago and have a back and neck injury as well as nerve damage on my right side which I thought was the pain I have been feeling but it has been getting worse and am only mentioning it because it’s someone else’s symptoms as well.
Now until yesterday I thought my low blood pressure and weight gain were signs of an underlying problem and the rest were symptoms related to those things (I am on wait-list to see an Endocrinologist), but now I am thinking it could all be from my birth control. Do you think I am reaching here, or considering what is being learned about the drug is it a possibility? I greatly appreciate anyone’s comments/suggestions. Thanks so much for listening.
S.

I've been on Yasmin for about a year and a half now... This is my first time really using birth control. I tried BC in my teens but hated the side effects so I got off them right away. Now that I am in a serious relationship and we're both in agreement we don't want to get pregnant until after we're married, I decided to start BC. I've had a few side effects but didn't really think much about them until I went for my annual pap last week. My doctor asked how the Yasmin was going. I told him that I've noticed I have little to no sex drive. He basically said that's not typical for Yasmin. I decided to get online and research side effects, that's when I came across this website. After reading several of the responses, something just clicked... I have many of the same symptoms!

I have never in my life experienced migraines until I started Yasmin. Fortunately I've only had a few since I started but nevertheless, not fun. I do however get frequent headaches. While I'm on the subject of my head, my memory seems to have slightly diminished. I often have a hard time remembering the simplest of words, causing me to misspeak often. I even have a difficult time remembering what I did a few days before! I've always had a very good memory! Has anyone else experienced difficulty with your memory??

About 4 mos after being on Yasmin I had a really weird uncomfortable pain just above my inside ankle. A few days later that pain had traveled up to the inside middle portion of my calf. At this point the spot where the pain resided was now discolored, looked almost like a bruise. Within a few hours the pain had moved up my leg just below my knee, still on the inside of my leg, again discolored. To make a long story short I went to my doctors office and he said I had a blood clot in my leg. He told me to keep my leg elevated and apply heat that it should be okay. I haven't had any bad cases like this again but I do occasionally get a similar pain in my leg but the pain seems to subide after a day or so. Ladies, if you experience similar pains and/or discoloring on the back of your leg(s) make sure you see your Dr. This can be deep vein thrombosis which are dangerous blood clots, they can cause pulmonary embolism's- blood clots in the lungs.

In addition I've had many other side effects including: little to no sex drive, severe dryness down below (kind of causes problems in the bedroom...), slight vision problems (I usually have near perfect vision, now I often feel like my vision is blurry), odd colored periods (brownish colored), sticky mucusy periods, a very sharp yet dull and uncomfortable pain in my right breast (at least once a month), frequent Urinary Tract Infections, mood swings (had a bad one this morning, threw a fit because my hair took forever to dry- so trivial, right?), severe melasma (hyperpigmentation) on my upper forehead and the top of both cheekbones, and last but certainly not least very low energy.

I actually have a follow-up appt this afternoon with my Dr. I am going to ask him about other options for birth control. Thank you to all of you for writing about your symptoms! Your comments have really helped! Good luck to all of you!

I would also just like to add that I have developed a ganglion cyst in my right wrist, and do experience frequent joint pain. I don't know if this can be attributed to the use of Yasmin.

I am a 36 year old women that decided to start taking birth control for the 1st time in my life which was on aug. 1st. I decided this after having my last of 3 kids. my ob doctor prescribed me Yasmin, but I filled the ocella a generic of Yasmin. I was at first concerned a little bit about taking birth control due to my age. But my ob told me that if I smoked than there could be risks of the side effects of birth control. I do not smoke, drink, or eat badly.I used to drink coffee everyday, but stopped because of the b.c. effects. I am not overweight with no other health conditions, except now!!! I don't exercise much or sleep much because of taking care of the baby. I do stress and have anxiety at times. I have had a few mild heart palpitations in my lifetime that occurred at work.
I have never experienced so many and strong HEART PALPITATIONS until I was on the pill. I started experiencing them about 2 weeks after starting the pill they occurred about 3 to 6 times a day about 4 to 5 days in a row. I continued for another few days just to make sure, but still had HEART PALPS. I stopped taking the pill. on aug 17th. I was also more moody and felt like I had pressure in my head at times. I than got concerned and decided to take my blood pressure on aug 31st.which was at 133/88. I said to myself that i have elevated blood pressure that i never had before. I started to worry because i never had HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. My BLOOD PRESSURE started to raise every day and reached 182/101. I was was so worried and stressed over this, because i know I did not have HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE before. I called my ob to find out my blood pressure before i started the pill and on july 27th it was 120/64 a great and healthy blood pressure. on Sept. 5th I went to urgent care they gave me a clonidine 0.1 to lower my bp when i reached 182/101. and did an ekg which was fine. my pulse if fine. They gave me lisinopril 10 mg to help if my blood pressure continued to be high. I did start it because if was like 172/96 which was close to this # everyday. It is helping a little. My pressure ranges from 128/80's to 156/90's. usually the 2nd #. It's rare that it hits lower. started meds on sept. 6th. I don't have any heart palps since about 3 days ago, which was 11th. but still have hbp. my primary dr does not think it could be my birth control, especially with being on for only 2 & 1/2 weeks. I'm pending blood tests right now. and my dr. thinks it could be my thyroid causing palps and hbp. my dr does not seem to think bc's can raise hbp. I read the package insert of bc's and read on internet it can. I felt completely healthy 1 month ago. and had excellent blood pressure.

Sorry to keeping annoying y'all with more posts from me, but I have another question. I noticed that my symptoms were worse with Yasmin's generic, Othello, than they were with Yasmin. I am not knowledgeable about generic drugs vs. brand-name drugs, but I wonder if there is something different about Othello that my body doesn't agree with. Just a thought... Any comments???? :)

Damn reading up on all these side effects shared here is really scaring.
Well I must admit that I certainly can relate to quite a few of them.
Well I took Yasmin for over a year, and my initial experience (say 6 months) was ok.
During that times my skin became flawless,to clear&radiant the best I'd ever had.
However beyond the 6 months things changed and I developed mad constant thrush
Really it was horrid, was put on fluconazole countless times, and I had never been one prone to thrush.
Furthermore every month during my period I'd get this mad headache coupled with dizziness and serious fatigue.
I was even convinced that I was anemic, because I'd actually go pale!Due to these headaches I decided to stop the Yasmin as I
Felt that really my life was at stake. In fact it was so bad I couldn't complete the that months pack.
Discontinuing Yasmin, opened yet another can of worms, perhaps due to me stopping suddenly.I developed severe acne,I was never one skin issues.
Well perhaps it could be attributed to the abrupt discontinuation of the pill.Sadly even 6 months of being off the pill my skin has not gotten any better.
As a result I have stupidly found myself having no choice but to go back to Yasmin.I have been taking it for just over a week,my skin has improved profoundly but I'm scared.
Moreso after reading everybody else comments,I'm really scared. If I'm to discontinue would yoi advice that I complete the cycle and not not stop suddenly?
Right now I'm ok just have slight nausea and occasional dull aching head.
Please can somebody give me advice.

Took Yaz years ago for some months. Do not remember many side effects. Starting taking it in July 2009 and within 2 weeks was hospitalized with pulmonary embolisms in both lung. Which means blood clots in both lungs. Doctor's could not find any other reason than Yaz. Please DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I was a healthy 37 year old with not history of clotting disorders and now I have to have see a hematologist, pulmonologist and take Coumadin for the next 6-9 months. I never thought that a medicine could destroy me in as little of a time as 2 weeks. I thank God for getting me through it and am writing to warn any future users. Don't take this med.

Well I don't take Yasmin, but I do take Yaz. I have been taking Yaz for about three years now --- I'm 25 and have been on the pill since 15 yrs old. I take the pill b/c I have ovarian cysts and have found that it does help, but doesn't make them go away or relieve the pain. In regards to Yaz, I haven't received my period for the last 10 months, which to me isn't normal. My OBGYN said that a lot of people who take Yaz have been experiencing the same side effects, but to me it just doesn't seem normal to not have a period, especially when I'm on a birth control that is supposed to help regulate my period. I have an appt w/ my OBGYN in early Oct and definitely going to bring up this website with her. Thanks for all the information that's posted here - it is truly helpful.

I never thought I would ever be posting my experience with BC but I think this could be useful to other women worldwide. I have been using Yasmin now for a year and a half and I agree with everyone here at the beginning I felt great, beautiful skin, controlled short term periods, stable weight. My body changed in all the right places. My breast turned a cup larger (I was a 34B) my buttocks got larger and rounder. My boyfriend was enjoying the changes as much as I was!! I thought this was the perfect pill for me and I actually recommend it to all my friends. Things started changing for me about three months ago. I started to feel tired, I use to work out 5 times a week now I can't even work out one. My eyesight started to change, I started getting cramps in my legs at night, my legs started feeling heavy as if I was losing circulation, fast heartbeat, and the occasional migraine to top it all of. Then I found the commercial about the lawsuit on TV and I panicked!! I googled the lawsuit and I found this websi

te and after reading everything here I went straight to my Dr. this afternoon with all my side effects. I am 39 now 18 on diferent types of BC and up until now I have been a very healthy and active person. When I read everything here I was decided to get off thie pill inmediately. But here goes what my Dr. said: (I trust his opinons because he is a friend and has been my obgyn for the last 15 years) " first Yasmin is the best hormone BC on the market, very women has different side effects and giving me another pill wouldn't solve my problem. I could actually get worse. He gave my the option of going of the pills but asked me if I was ready for all the changes that would bring. Weight gain, acne, anxiety, depression etc. Another option he suggested I try was taking an antioxidant complex, omega 3, and lecithin. All natural supplements which he firmly believes will make me feel much better, help my circulation, and minimize the side effects. I will start this treatment tomorrow and stay on the Yazmin for at least another month. PS. My health is in perfect conditions after blood tests and sonograms. thank God!! I will keep everyone posted on my progress. And I hope this is useful to all you ladies. God bless!

Reading these is both disturbing and a relief. I was put on YASMIN by my GYN after blood work confirmed my estrogen was low- I was 42 at the time and the GYN felt I needed the pill to boost my energy and she said it would "even out" mood swings. I stayed on the pill for 3 years.

I attributed my fatigue to being "perimenaupasal" meanwhile I stopped the pill 3 weeks ago and my fatigue has lifted, my aches and pains are gone. When I would try to research these symptoms I would come up with Lupus or some chronic fatigue issue, but I realize now it was this pill making me fatigued, moody, and thirsty!!

I have had blood work done to rule out any other type of illness or issue and realize so many other women are struggling with these symptoms, the pill that is supposed to make life better is making people sick.

I have been on Yasmin for three years. I was put on it after I had an out of control year long period after being given a medication during knee surgery. Since being on Yasmin I have had several UTI infections including one that led to Clostridium Difficile and hospitalization after being on so many anti-biotics. I have had severe weight gain despite all imaginable efforts to lose it and I am always tired. I had no idea other people had the same side effects as me until I started to research other birth control pills to switch to.

Wow, I have been on Yasmin for almost 4 years and I never even thought to connect my symptoms with my birth control. This might even be the reason me and my ex broke up. I was really sweet and happy go lucky before getting on the pill. Then around the time I switched birth control when I was 21, I started getting moody all the time and would pick fights with my boyfriend. Little things would send me over the edge. I even had an eating disorder in college because I felt so fat and gained 15 lbs in a year which is a lot for someone who is 5'1 ( I haven't had an eating disorder in a few years though). Recently, I just got tired of feeling so depressed and went to the doctor. He prescribed antidepressants which I hated and stopped taking them after a week. So, then a couple of weeks ago I saw this commercial about side effects on Yasmin and that there was some lawyer talking about suing the company, etc, etc. Well that got me to thinking about it. Maybe it is my birth control that has given me all these problems? Now I think it was because it has been 2 weeks since I stopped taking it and now I feel much better and less bloated. I mean, I woke up this morning went to the gym with a smile on my face for the first time in forever, even had a flat tire and changed it without getting upset before work. Before, I would have had a hissy fit and wrote the whole day off as a loss. So, I recommend talking to your doctor if you start seeing personality changes and weight gain.

Well I've been on Yasmin for about 8 months, was on Tri-cyclen (Give me really bad IBS and I had massive stomach aches every morning), The Patch (I was on the patch for about a year to 2 years and I stopped because I got my period and it didn't stop for 2 months) and Alesse (I had a little bit of depression).
So, I'm 21 now and Have been taking birth control since I was 15, I got my period when I was 12 and it was always regular so I just took birth control not to have kids.

So, the major symptom I've been having is depression (anxiety), I feel like I'm bi-bolar. I feel lonely all the time when I shouldn’t be because I’m not alone. Yesterday I had a horrible fight with my b/f for no reason at all. After I calmed down I realized I had accused him of something that wasn’t even plausible and told him several times I was going to kill myself, and I had huge impulses to cut myself like I did when I was depressed at 15. I thought about all this and was like wtf, this isn’t right, this isn’t me. I loved life before and now I just don’t care about anything, don’t want to do anything ever. I don’t even get excited for stuff I used to love.

The second symptom is impulsion and paranoia; My b/f is the sweetest guy ever and has never given me a reason to think he’s doing anything to hurt me but I continue to hurt his feelings by accusing him of stuff he would never even think I’m doing and I think I’m pushing him away. I was never ever like this. I quit smoking about a year ago and don’t need it at all anymore. I see my b/f a lot and I get more than enough time to spend with him, well the other week he wanted to stay home and play some video games alone, well I wouldn’t take no for an answer and ended up going, buying smokes and smoking a lot. I don’t get upset like that.

I’ve been crying at least twice a week for no reason or the stupidest reasons. Before I would cry for a reason when something upset me but I now feel like I’m always on the verge of tears and was never like this before, songs that shouldn’t make people cry make my eyes water. I’m always thinking about myself and woe is me and then I cry about that. It’s stupid I never did that before and don’t want to do it now.

I was 115 lbs from when I was 14 until I was 20 and now that I’ve been on Jasmin I’m 130lbs and look like I gained the weight in my stomach because I’m bloated all the time. It was a very unhealthy weight gain and if this was my only symptom I would be alright with it but it’s not.

I’ve also noticed having frequent urination. It sucks when you’re getting intimate and you have to stop in the middle to make sure you use the washroom so it doesn’t hurt if it pushes on your bladder. Sometimes it feels like every ½ to 1 hour I have to pee, other times it’s more like 4 hours or something more normal.

Well, I’m going to the doctor this week, to switch pills, I’ve been thinking about going on Seasonale or Tri-cyclen Lo, I trust my doctors opinion and will ask him what he thinks, if nothing works I’ll just go off birth control all together and use a condom.

I took Yasmin for about 2 years, and didn't seem to have any side effects at all. I never gained weight, lost hair, felt nauseous, or anything. Then on Halloween 2004, I suffered a moderate brain hemorrhage. I was 21 years old, and very healthy with no prior health conditions. The doctor said he didn't know the cause, I had several tests done, there were no signs of aneurysms (I am not sure of the spelling there) or any AV malformations. He said it could possibly be the birth control, but he can't be sure. I was immediately taken off of the pill and all other birth control pills because of it, and have had no problems since.

Hello! Its kind of creepy that i just now realized my problems and where they are coming from. A couple months ago I was having symptoms very similar to being pregnant.. went to pp and the dr. and I was not. I have been on Yasmin and the generic brands for 3 years now. and recently quit taking them for the 3rd time... About 2 weeks ago I started having " prego " symptoms again.. took a prego test and of course came up negative once again. Its been a little depressing as my partner and I have been wanting a baby. but now i'm starting to see where these symptoms are coming from.. My digestive system has gone haywire.. i get headaches.. my boobs hurt.. and i'm extremely emotional... my boyfriend has mentioned recently that my "outbursts" are frightening to him.. I didn't think it was that bad but now that I look back on it i've had these problems only during the time i've taken BC. WOW!!! as much as i enjoy the BC because it relieves me of my extremely long periods and severe cramps reading and feeling all of this makes me feel a little mad. I wish there were better ways of handling birth control and menstruation My doctor wont give me an IUD and my mother had severe side effects from the shot so i've been left with only the pill.. as the patch gave me really bad numbness after only 4 days..What are us women supposed to do!!! it seems like the doctors know what they're giving us but they do it anyway! women today should be able to be confident in their BC and know its not going to kill them. if anyone has some sort of "option" for me please don't hesitate to email me your thoughts and ideas... thank you! ******

I just turned "51"

I've been on Yasmin for the past 5 years.

I never have been on a birth control pill in the past as when I was a young teen I tried and couldn't handle the first side effects.

I have had a lifetime of the most HEAVY periods. I have to stayed glued to the toilet on my first two days.

I was diagnosed 20 years ago with ITP where blood platelets deplete. I thought my periods were so heavy because of this. I just couldn't take it anymore so my DR put me on Yasmin.

Yes at first my boobs were big and sore. But after 3 months I thought I had died and gone to heaven with a better life. Period so light.

BUT:
I've gained 40 lbs over this time frame. I look pregnant with the tummy Bloating. I've just had the most thorough physical, ultra sound for fibroids and everything came back normal except which never had previous: Borderline high Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure.

So, I've been power walking and never eat anything bad. ???? so why can't I loose even a pound?

Back in November I went off Yasmin for a month and had a period that hemorrhaged! So I went back on Yasmin. But I'm bloated now more than ever. I know it is the hormone changes.

I'm hooked on Motrin for my headaches which is like a sinus ache in my hear.... weird headache.

BUT: Hmmmmm I've had arthritic symptoms in my joints just over the past 4 years, severe Dry Eyes in the morning. All I googled is Bloated all the time and got Yasmin.

I'm in between pills and seriously think I need to just put up the the bad bleeding and get off the Yasmin. It is like quitting coffee, the headache is because of stopping the pill. I took one pill today even tho I have my period right now. My head is clearing up and I am feeling better.

I Don't think it is just Yasmin I REALLY BELIEVE WE ALL HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS WHEN THE HORMONES ARE IMBALANCED.

I Loved Yasmin for giving me back a life. But I'm so BLOATED right now I've got to try going off.

I do not take any other drug. I did a Candida cleanse but it didn't elevate the Bloating.

I will keep you all posted........

To all the women still taking this drug: I beg you to stop taking this medication and read all of the posts on this site!!!! Here is my story... I was on Yasmin for 6 years. About 4 years into taking the drug, I noticed a mass on my right side. It was a painful mass that I could easily feel, and it eventually because so uncomfortable that I could no longer sleep on my right side, and it affected basic movement. At the same time, I was beginning to show some side effects of Cron's disease (which runs in my family), so my gastro doctor told me to get a CT scan and an MRI. The tests revealed a gigantic mass on my liver and I was told to see a liver specialist right away. I went to KU Med and was told that I had to have emergency surgery right away, and that I was basically a walking time bomb.... If I tripped and fell, it could cause this mass to rupture and I could bleed to death. He also told me that if I had gotten pregnant while I had the mass, it would almost certainly lead to death for me and the baby. Nonetheless, they cut me open from the middle of my chest clear down to my belly button. They did a liver resection and removed my gall bladder and several lymph nodes. The mass on the scan turned out to be 2 grapefruit-sized benign masses, called Focal Nodular Hyperplasia - most commonly caused from the hormones in birth control pills!!!! Ladies, this was major surgery.... I was in the hospital for 9 days and out of work recovering for nearly 2 months.... and this all took place 2 months before my wedding!!!!!! The MASSIVE stress I endured caused me to have panic attacks and I thought I was going to literally die. Keep in mind that my CT and MRI were purely coincidental. If my GI doctor had not ordered the tests, I would have never known about the masses, and God only knows what would have happened to me.... Anyway, this whole ordeal has DRASTICALLY changed my life and affected all of the people I love, my husband included, who has to endure all of my pain and anxiety. BOTTOM LINE - IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT! TELL EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW!

I used to be on tri-cyclen for about 3yrs, and it gave me terrible side effects like constant nausea, depression, weakness,it messed with my pH and irritated my acid reflux disease badly, it took me so long to realize and then i was switched to Yasmin. I had been off all bc for a month and i felt great, started Yasmin and within 2 weeks i noticed my depression worsening and my sex drive dropped very much, I feel like I have developed IBS, my weight dropped randomly and I experienced lightheadedness and blackouts, I also became b12 deficient and need supplements, my periods were only 3 days long but I got bad cramps which i had never experienced before and even now after 2 months their just as bad as they were, I cant sleep properly anymore and my blood pressure and heart rate have increased, I get numbness and palpitations and I really notice this because I smoke and already have some sort of circulatory problems. I also felt weird pains/twitching in my stomach and lower body, most of these symptoms i still experience... I was only on it for 4 months before i quit all bc pills altogether. I'm only 19 years old and I feel like this pill has caused me some serious heath problems and discomfort, we all need more healthy birth control options...

There is a class action lawsuit for anyone that took Yaz/Yasmin birth control. I just saw the commercial the other day from an attorney in Denver and it's nationwide. Please call Nolan Law Group - Valerie Romo at 888-630-9340. They are handling it nationwide.

I took Yasmin for years and was perfectly normal and totally functional. The pharmacy automatically switched me to Ocella last fall. I was ok up until around this past March. I have experienced extreme heart palpitations, horrible panic attacks and my very favorite has been the excruciating back and abdominal muscle pain (I'm on a heating pad every night for 4 hours). I feel like death. Have been to every doctor and have had every test done (cardiologist, family, obgyn, etc.) - I'm just plain crazy according to them!!! I'm 39, have 2 kids and a husband, teach school full time and I'm convinced I won't live to see 45. I have been starting to see commercials about lawsuits against Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. I think the pill I took this morning is the last Ocella I'm ever going to swallow. Has anyone else experienced any of these symptoms?

I cannot contribute - in the same way as other posters, I can add a side effect of getting of all birth control pills-- health. The pill seems to act by mimicking the first trimester symptoms of pregnancy in many ways - explains many of the symptoms. Can you imagine being 1st trimester-pregnant for years? I cannot understand why women will use un-natural, non-organic foreign substances in their bodies with possibly deadly side effects - yet swear by organic soy milk, veggies what have you -seems a bit schizophrenic. Better to wait for the man who would love you fully and not ask you to hurt yourself so he can use you for sex. We become just like the men here, this is so sad to me. Instead of being "liberated" we, (not the men) become slave to the pill. And then we don't get he freedom or the man. Try organic sex, in the ways God intended, much healthier.

I've been on Yasmin for years now, but recently switched to the generic Ocella. I'm trying to figure out if Yasmin or Ocella is causing my depression. I'm 25 and just recently my depression has been horrible. I've been on Lexapro for years to help with Anxiety/Depression, but never had problems like this before. My psychiatrist just switched me to Prozac. I've been on it 4 weeks and it's not doing anything. The reason I think my depression might be linked to the Yasmin is because the 2 weeks before I get my period I'm insanely depressed, borderline suicidal. Then, the day I get my period, I'm ok. Anyone else have this weird problem?

I was not on Yasmin, I was on Aviane...if ANYONE on birth control ever comes down with a case of gastritis STOP YOUR PILL immediately! It is caused by the pill, I was on Aviane for 5 years ; apparently that was too long. I now use the nuvaring which is a lower dose or hormones and I love it.
I have never been so sick in my life; I was severely nauseous every single day of my life, never knowing it was because of the birth control pill. If you ever get sick after being on a birth control pill for too long, get off of it and go to a lower dose. Believe me .. do not waste your life being sick!

Hi everyone:

I tried two 6 month bouts with Yasmin and have had terrible side effects both times. The most recent being diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. I strongly encourage everyone to listen to your bodies - if something doesn't seem right, persists, and no other explanation is available, I would strongly recommend to stop Yasmin immediately! There are a variety of other birth control pills available. I seem to not tolerate certain progestin formulations, which vary from pill to pill. You can google BCP and hormones and self educate yourself until you find a pill which works for you. I am currently looking into filing an FDA complaint for this pill. In doing so I also noted that it is currently being investigated for causing acute pancreatitis!

One more comment, I've seen in this search and others people complaining about losing feeling on one side of your body and/or muscle cramping in the legs. These symptoms can be very serious (blood clot/stroke) and you should see a doctor immediately!

It's been such an eye opener for me to read all these posts about Yasmin. I'm 28 and have been on and off various birth control pills since I was 18.
My doctor switched me to Yasmin about 4 years ago because the pill I was on previously gave me bad headaches. Reading all the posts about mood swings and even depression I realize that Yasmin has been most likely to blame for my unexplained feelings or irritability, unexplainable anxiety and bursting into tears at times foe little reason. There have been other factors in my life which would make me prone to depression over the past 2 years, but I think whenever I go back on Yasmin (mainly for my skin and pms) I deal with things allot less rationally and my moods swing a lot more. I've just come off it so and am going to try Yaz, which I've read equally mixed reviews about but fingers x'd.
