Yasmin is the only pill that has worked for me. I have been taking it off and on for years, and it has taken away all my cramps and I don't believe I've had any mood changes with it. I recently went to the doctor for a checkup and to get new pills, and he recommended Yaz. He said he had a hard time prescribing Yasmin over Yaz, so I decided to try it out. I've been on it for 3 weeks and it's terrible for mood changes!

I'm finding myself snapping at people at work, being really angry and anxious, then suddenly being depressed and not caring about anything. I've felt more stressed out in the past 3 weeks then I have in my life. I find myself overreacting about the smallest things, and being way too emotional about it. I start to feel worthless, depressed and alone, even though I have a boyfriend. I have found myself getting really emotional if he needs to work on a project at home and can't spend time with me. I get really upset really quickly, then I immediately apologize and feel bad about it.

The mood changes are insane, and I feel like I'm going crazy! I'm also really tired throughout the say, even though I'm getting a ton of sleep. I just feel like sleeping more and more. I haven't had any headaches, but that's not to say it wont happen later. I'm afraid to keep taking these pills! I want to go back to Yasmin. YAZ is terrible!

I'm so glad to find this forum. I've been on Yasmin for 7 months since March 2009. My gyne recommended me to take it because of my acne problem, heavy period and cramps. Ever since I started taking it, I was happy about it. My face is cleared of acne and my period only lasts for 3 days and very light without pain. I was a happy camper until the 4th month into taking Yasmin. I started to have patches of rash on my right temple, then a week later on the left temple and upper lip too. At first I thought it was due to my new face toner. So I stopped using it. I didn't think it would be the pill as any allergic reaction usually would should up 1-2 months after taking it. The rash got worst after 2 weeks, it started around my waist, more like hives this time. I can't stop itching my skin even in my sleep. It was unbearable. The hives comes and goes. And it spreads bigger and bigger to behind my neck and back. I drives my NUTS and my skin is very dry. I saw my family doc, and he thought it was eczema/fungus. He gave me some steroid cream to apply. It helped but didn't make the hives go away. I kept looking for the cause of the hives, but have no clues. After I read many people who posted in this forum also suffered the same problem, I can conclude that Yasmin is the reason. I'm stopping the pill today!!!! Hopefully, the hives will go away soon.

Wow it is crazy how so many women act so differently to this drug. I got on here to see all of the negative effects which luckily I don't think I have experienced. I'm 25 and got on Yasmin a few months ago and felt great. I had noticed that I was becoming very emotional, irritable, and had a lot of pain with my periods (cramps and back aches). So I thought Yasmin sounded like a great cure for the problems I was experiencing. My mom actually made me aware of the recall so I immediately stopped taking the pills. The first month being off the pills seemed fairly normal. These last two months have been horrible though. Every time i begin to PMS I feel like I did before ever taking Yasmin. I've been fighting with my boyfriend and family members because either I'm very irritable, sensitive, or depressed. The couple months that I was on Yasmin no one even noticed when I was on my period because I acted completely normal. I think I'm one of the women who Yasmin may be a blessing for. Or maybe I have some underlying issue and Yasmin helps to mask it, I'm really not sure. That is why I'm posting here for any feedback, even the negative because it will help me to research all the angles. I think our bodies react differently to different drugs. I feel like a crazy women without Yasmin after experiencing those few wonderful months while I was on it. Please provide your input.
Thanks,
C.

I was on Yasmin for about 5 years. I had no problems and my skin was great and i lost weight. it took my periods from 7 days of heavy bleeding to 3 to 4 days of light bleeding with no cramps. The only reason i switched to a different BC is that i wanted less periods and cause of the recall that was out for Yasmin at the time. i am now on the generic for seasonal with no problems.

I have been on Yasmin for 3 weeks now, and i know with taking any hormone your body needs time to adjust, however, i have had an upset stomach and cramps since i started taking this. I also have had heart burn and acid reflux out of this world on a daily basis and i take everything possible to get rid of it and nothing helps. It comes out of nowhere, its not caused by anything i eat, because i would get it without eating anything. It gets so bad sometimes it literally makes me throw up. I get cramps everyday and it even makes me not want to be sexually active because if the pain. My boobs are soo sore all the time, it hurts to touch them. I want to get off this asap and will be switching after this cycle.

I noticed that for the past couple months my sex drive has all but disappeared, and I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping. I was thinking it could have been Yasmin, but never got around to checking up on the side effects as my doctor said it was stress from work. After reading these blogs I now realize that so many of the symptoms you guys are experiencing I have also experienced. The back pain, cramps for no reason, tiredness, bad dreams, paranoia........, it's all there. The most recent is the hair loss which I have never ever experienced before. Yesterday was the last day I took Yasmin.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. It is the only BC I have ever been on and have LOVED it up until about 3 months ago. All of a sudden I started having heart palpitations, sever chest pains, extreme fatigue, very bloated in my stomach, low sex drive, pain and tingling in my arms and legs, dizziness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight gain and major mood swings! I went to the DR and they did an EKG (which was normal) Tested my blood (I now have a thyroid problem that I have never had before) and they did an ultrasound (Dr that I may have a murmur) on my heart and the results came back fine. So the DR prescribed me Synthroid for the thyroid problem and the DR said that should help me gain my energy back, loose some weight and would take care of the heart palpitations. The other symptoms he contributed to Stress (Panic Attacks) I have been on Synthroid for 5 weeks now and I don't feel any better in fact I feel worse!

This morning I seen a commercial for a lawsuit against Yaz or Yasmin. Well since I am non Yasmin I immediately did a search and came across this site. I have literally been sitting here all night reading all the comments from different women and now know what my problem is. My problem is YASMIN! I am not taking this anymore and have an appt with my Dr tomorrow to have them do whatever they need to do to see if I have any blockage or any other damage from using this pill. My chest pains and the tightness in my chest are so severe that it takes my breath away and I am only 24! I am not ready for children and don't want to deal with bad periods like I had before getting on the pill but I can not take this rise. PLEASE if you are on Yasmin please stop taking it immediately and call your doctor Your life could depend on it!! I am hoping like other people who have commented that after a few weeks of being off the pill that I will feel so much better. I hope I am getting off of it in time before I have done any further damage.

I never thought I would ever be posting my experience with BC but I think this could be useful to other women worldwide. I have been using Yasmin now for a year and a half and I agree with everyone here at the beginning I felt great, beautiful skin, controlled short term periods, stable weight. My body changed in all the right places. My breast turned a cup larger (I was a 34B) my buttocks got larger and rounder. My boyfriend was enjoying the changes as much as I was!! I thought this was the perfect pill for me and I actually recommend it to all my friends. Things started changing for me about three months ago. I started to feel tired, I use to work out 5 times a week now I can't even work out one. My eyesight started to change, I started getting cramps in my legs at night, my legs started feeling heavy as if I was losing circulation, fast heartbeat, and the occasional migraine to top it all of. Then I found the commercial about the lawsuit on TV and I panicked!! I googled the lawsuit and I found this websi

te and after reading everything here I went straight to my Dr. this afternoon with all my side effects. I am 39 now 18 on diferent types of BC and up until now I have been a very healthy and active person. When I read everything here I was decided to get off thie pill inmediately. But here goes what my Dr. said: (I trust his opinons because he is a friend and has been my obgyn for the last 15 years) " first Yasmin is the best hormone BC on the market, very women has different side effects and giving me another pill wouldn't solve my problem. I could actually get worse. He gave my the option of going of the pills but asked me if I was ready for all the changes that would bring. Weight gain, acne, anxiety, depression etc. Another option he suggested I try was taking an antioxidant complex, omega 3, and lecithin. All natural supplements which he firmly believes will make me feel much better, help my circulation, and minimize the side effects. I will start this treatment tomorrow and stay on the Yazmin for at least another month. PS. My health is in perfect conditions after blood tests and sonograms. thank God!! I will keep everyone posted on my progress. And I hope this is useful to all you ladies. God bless!

Hi. I have been taking Yasmin for a couple of years now. I previously took Ortho-Tri-Cycline for about 5 years. I am one of those people who always had heavy periods and severe cramps, though after the birth of my kids those things seemed to subside. My doctor suggested Yasmin because I had a lot of mid-month bleeding with the Ortho, and I had developed some adult acne. The Yasmin did seem to help (a little) with the skin issues, but I still bleed in the middle of the month--every month. I call it the 'second period.' I know that the pill has side affects but they are becoming unbearable. I am fat and bloated all the time, I loose hair and feel ugly and very tired. I also suffer from hormonal migraines which the pill is supposed to improve but I believe it may be making them worse. Lastly I have little desire to have sexual relations, which is NOT NORMAL. I plan to go off the pill and find a non-invasive form of BC, but my one concern is that I might break out like a 14 year old kid. I am 35--I cant handle that at this stage in life! I would be interested to know what happened to people once they stopped taking Yasmin.

Thanks

I have been on Yasmin now for around 7-8 months and am shocked at the responses that I have heard. Now that I have read into this I have had similar experiences with this pill - I have been on countless contraceptive pills since 15years and am now 25yrs and heard this was one of the best pills advised by my GP but one of the more expensive ones so were reluctant to put me on it!- previous problems, migraines, high blood pressure, weight gain and extreme IBS and spots but this pill apparently would cure this!

I have always had problems with being on the pill as they make my period pains worsen, cramps, extreme IBS however when I am off the pill I don't experience these symptoms - Does anyone experience the same?????

Have been to doctors several times with pains in my abdomen, chest and had to go to hospital to get this checked several times and got scans all normal no problems - i wonder if this pill has anything to do with this?????

Since being on Yasmin have noticed changes such as depression and feelings of extreme loneliness, feeling not so great in myself even thou my fiance tells me every day am gorjus, mood swings, wanting to burst out crying, headaches, extreme tiredness all day every day, and most recently extreme weight gain to my stomach is this normal am healthy eating and started exercising more to help but seems to be getting worse?????

It's really getting me down and am in the middle of planning my wedding and find myself not being excited or getting annoyed but it should be the happiest times planning my wedding. Advice..........????

I am 20 years old and I have been on Yasmin for the past 2 months. Before then, I was on Norinyl for about 2 or 3 years. For the first year of Norinyl, everything seemed to be okay. I was the happiest girl you could ever meet, and no one I knew enjoyed life more than me. I was never negative, and I never used to say the word "hate", or talk about "killing people".

Then, something happened, for whatever reason and I started to have severe mood swings. I was very irritable and angry at random times. This occurred while I was still on Norinyl, but my gyno and I thought maybe it was just because I was an 18 year old girl and that's just how they are sometimes. Norinyl helped relieve serious cramps I used to get in my legs, and regulated my period.

After a few months I told my gyno that I could not take these mood swings anymore. So she told me to take Norinyl straight through so that I would not get a period every month. (So I took it the way you would take Yasmin). However, things did not change. Finally we decided to try Yasmin.

Now I am on my third pack of Yasmin, and I have completely changed. I am not the same girl AT ALL. My boyfriend noticed it before I did and he is the one who checked this site. After reading all of your comments, we have realized that Yasmin is the problem.

Even though I got mood swings when I was on Norinyl, they were not half as bad as these mood swings. I talk about how I "hate" everything. I hate my life and the bad people in this world. I hate people that treat women badly and I hate women that disrespect their bodies. I want to kill everyone who offends women and all of the strippers in the world. (I have never ever been such an angry person). I am always tired and cranky. I cry almost every night for no reason at all. I feel very depressed and sad. I have become illogical when I experience a mood swing and I keep arguing with the people I love even though I know I'm wrong. I tried to control it and stop acting this way, but I could not. I have also been heavily spotting for the past 2 weeks straight.

So I just called my gyno after reading these comments, and the first thing she asked me was if I had taken any antibiotics. I said no. So ladies, if you are taking an antibiotic and Yasmin, please tell your doctors immediately because apparently, it can be a serious problem. Then she told me that I could have something out of place. I forgot what she said. It was something that started with "thy..." (like thyroid? or something) She said that we would look into it because if that is knocked out of place, that will cause bleeding and maybe even mood swings.

For those of you who cannot take the pill anymore and want to know some other options....My gyno told me that she would talk to me about Nuvaring and the shot. The shot does not have any estrogen in it. And nuvaring is inserted into you for one month, and then you go get a new one put in place. These are options that I am going to talk about with my gyno today. Thank you for listening and I appreciate your advice. I hope I helped someone.

Hello! Its kind of creepy that i just now realized my problems and where they are coming from. A couple months ago I was having symptoms very similar to being pregnant.. went to pp and the dr. and I was not. I have been on Yasmin and the generic brands for 3 years now. and recently quit taking them for the 3rd time... About 2 weeks ago I started having " prego " symptoms again.. took a prego test and of course came up negative once again. Its been a little depressing as my partner and I have been wanting a baby. but now i'm starting to see where these symptoms are coming from.. My digestive system has gone haywire.. i get headaches.. my boobs hurt.. and i'm extremely emotional... my boyfriend has mentioned recently that my "outbursts" are frightening to him.. I didn't think it was that bad but now that I look back on it i've had these problems only during the time i've taken BC. WOW!!! as much as i enjoy the BC because it relieves me of my extremely long periods and severe cramps reading and feeling all of this makes me feel a little mad. I wish there were better ways of handling birth control and menstruation My doctor wont give me an IUD and my mother had severe side effects from the shot so i've been left with only the pill.. as the patch gave me really bad numbness after only 4 days..What are us women supposed to do!!! it seems like the doctors know what they're giving us but they do it anyway! women today should be able to be confident in their BC and know its not going to kill them. if anyone has some sort of "option" for me please don't hesitate to email me your thoughts and ideas... thank you! ******

I have taken Yasmin for a year and a half. Since then I have gained 25 pounds, developed thyroid disease, and am very moody! I have taken several different types of BC because I have periods that last for two weeks and are very painful. I have to get off of this pill to see what happens. I can lose the weight, but I will be on medicine the rest of my life for thyroid disease. I also have headaches almost everyday and I have cramps for two weeks out of every month!

I used to be on tri-cyclen for about 3yrs, and it gave me terrible side effects like constant nausea, depression, weakness,it messed with my pH and irritated my acid reflux disease badly, it took me so long to realize and then i was switched to Yasmin. I had been off all bc for a month and i felt great, started Yasmin and within 2 weeks i noticed my depression worsening and my sex drive dropped very much, I feel like I have developed IBS, my weight dropped randomly and I experienced lightheadedness and blackouts, I also became b12 deficient and need supplements, my periods were only 3 days long but I got bad cramps which i had never experienced before and even now after 2 months their just as bad as they were, I cant sleep properly anymore and my blood pressure and heart rate have increased, I get numbness and palpitations and I really notice this because I smoke and already have some sort of circulatory problems. I also felt weird pains/twitching in my stomach and lower body, most of these symptoms i still experience... I was only on it for 4 months before i quit all bc pills altogether. I'm only 19 years old and I feel like this pill has caused me some serious heath problems and discomfort, we all need more healthy birth control options...

If Yasmin is the same as Yaz, I'm pissed! It's supposed to treat pmdd? Well, I STILL get extremely emotional, my cramps are so bad I can take Darvocet-a nartcoic! and still have pain! I'm also starting to break out more now than I did when I was on my old pill. However, it is making my periods very light and short. Is there anything else I can do?

First of, let me say I am a Pharmacy Technician. I was on Yaz for about 5 months. It was OK. It wasn't strong enough to stop my periods until about 4 days into a new pack, it didn't do much for my skin, and it was $40/ month because there is no generic! I only kept taking it because it didn't make me nauseous (I am very sensitive to nausea).
After $40/month was a little too much, I went to my dr and wanted to be put on Yasmin (ocella) because it would only be $10/month and it has the same hormones as yaz which didn't make me sick, but it was .01mg stronger, which made me a little nervous. But I tried it, didn't make me sick AT ALL, cleared my skin up, periods start and stop on time, no cramps, cheaper generic, and I lost 17 lbs! I actually love this pill... it's a miracle serum.

I am 39 year old who has had problems with hormones since I got my first period (12 years old). Heavy bleeding, thinking for sure "I was going to die every month" cramps, having to stay out of school for 2 to 3 days a month. I thought after having children(which I was told by doctors) my hormones would get regulated. They did not. Four years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids and got a partial hysterectomy and having no more periods. The doctor put me on hormonal pills(not Yasmin) and I was having problems breathing. So I suffered with a lot of the symptoms listed here until last year September when they found a cyst on the ovary that was left. So I wound up having a full hysterectomy and was put on the Yasmin pill. In the beginning I would get sick on my stomach really bad and I stopped taking them. But, because I was I am full menopause, I swear I was going thru some serious, serious mood swings. So I got back on the pill and started breaking them in half for a month to get my body used to them and now I can take the full dosage. I personally am so happy with this product. My acne has cleared up tremendously and my mood swings are intact. I still may have a few instances if my husband or kids push me to far, I'll let them know in my own way. But it is not as bad as it could be without these pills. I feel bad for those who have really bad reactions to them, but maybe taking half doses until the body gets used to them might help.

hi everyone I have been on Yasmin since May 24th 2009 the thing that attracted me was that I could not have my period for the summer and swim and wear white anytime and not worry about it! as I have extremely heavy periods! now we are into July and it has been fine up until now but I just started break through bleeding and I have had very bad headaches the last three days when I wake up and when I go to sleep as well as very tender breasts and the other day at work all I did was cry all morning I just wanted to end my life. I also have had very bad cramps as if I was coming on my period but I knew I was not as I was on Yasmin. After entering all my symptoms in I discovered this site and now I know what is going on. as much as I hate my period I also don't want to die so I am stopping the pill today. Actually, I had been taking YASMIN for over a year with NO problems. I was on every other pill known to man, but suffered from Acne sooooo, MD put me on YASMIN and skin was clear with no bad side effects. Recently, my MD put me on YAZ and, now, I'm having bowel issues (hospital twice), migraines, cramps in my legs at night, bloating and acne coming back. YAZ sucks! I'm tired all the time and feel depressed, too. This is all new to me so I'm going to ask to switch back to YASMIN!

I AM CURRENTLY ON EFFEXOR SO DEPRESSION IS THERE AND I HAVE BEEN USING PROACTIVE SINCE IT HIT THE MARKET BUT THE ACNE IS BREAKING TO NEW HEIGHTS I AM GOING TO STICK THIS OUT TO SEE IF IT WILL GET BETTER FOR ME CAUSE MY IRON WAS SO LOW THEIR WANTED TO DO A TRANSFUSION DUE TO THE HEAVY BLEEDING AND CLOTTING LIKE I JUST HAD A BABY. BUT I WILL KEEP YOU ALL UPDATED IF THINGS GET WORSE OR BETTER. tHE ONLY THING I WILL SAY IS THE STOMACH PAIN IS TERRIBLE BUT ITS NOT CRAMPS IT JUST ACHES, AND THE NAUSEA IS GETTING TO ME A LITTLE BUT IT BEATS THE HEAVY PERIODS, PERIOD.

I was on Yasmin for two years. I loved it because there was no more acne, no more heavy periods, or cramps. Back in February I had an episode of dizziness and my heart racing. I was taken to the ER and nothing was wrong except low potassium. About a month ago I started having the same symptoms again. My doctor took me off of Yasmin two weeks ago and I am still having symptoms. I am currently being evaluated by a cardiologist due to chest pain, heart palpitations, and fast heart rate. I feel so bad and I have no energy. I am usually bubbly and full of life. Does anyone know how long it takes for this medication to get out of your system and feeling back to normal again?

Do NOT take this pill! I have never had a worse experience in my entire life. At the time, I was engaged to my now-husband, and this pill seriously almost ruined our relationship. I was so depressed and had the worst anxiety attacks. I constantly thought he was going to leave me, and every time he left my house I would just cry. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, to the point that I just wanted to give up on life. I was so nervous and terrified that my family members were going to die or suffer from something traumatic. It was so so strange. I was not myself. Other than, um, insanity, I had no other side effects. However, my mom got on this pill and starting losing vision in one of her eyes and having constant cramps all month long.

I'm on Loestrin Fe right now, and so far it's been a great pill (though it's really expensive if you don't have good insurance to cover it).

I have been on Yasmin for two and a half months now. It was prescribed to me by my doctor as a means of treating 2 cyst that developed because of my endometriosis as a means of avoiding surgery. He put me on it for 3 months but because I forgot to start the second pack for 2 weeks I had to start the 3 month period all over. The first month I took Yasmin the side effects were minimal but since I started taking it in May I have gotten a constant vaginal itch and pain, my eye sight is blurry, stomach feels sick and I get stomach pains, neck pains, shoulder pains, leg pains and hip pains, pains in my face, little or no lubrication during intercourse, constantly have to urinate, stomach feels like its tightening and has gotten really big, gets short of breathe easily, bad headaches, I feel as though I would pass out any minute when I am standing or walking, I am disinterested in everything, I get nausea, I have lost all interest in sex, I feel bloated all the time, I have lost all taste in my mouth, feels very tired and fatigued all the time, I feel very sad for no reason. I keep feeling sick all the time and have lost interest in food. When I am sitting I feel the pains in my legs and hip even more. I am falling into a state of depression and it is beginning to show at work. I am also gaining a lot of weight, rapidly, and really don't know what to do about it because I am very careful with the things I eat, how they are cooked and the time I eat also and I do exercise. I really don't know if I should continue until I finish the 3 months to see if it works for me or if I should stop taking the Yasmin and ask my doctor to try something else. I just don't feel altogether right now.

Hi, I have been on Yasmin for almost a year now. And only in the last three months have I started experiencing side effects.
I thought I was silently going out of my mind, I have cramps in my abdomen, dizziness, constant headaches, mood swings from hell, nausea, a runny tummy, tiredness, hot flushes, intense cold, and Strain Injury of the right wrist, back ache and shoulder ache, depression, and just a general ill feeling.. I cant complain of acne as yet. Reading what others have gone through have opened my eyes. This pill is evil. What i don't understand is how can doctors prescribe this if they are aware of the side effects and what it does to us. I am stopping it immediately I only hope the withdrawal process is not as bad as what I fear I am going to go through.

wow. i am so happy i found this website. after reading everyone's posts, i now know that i am not alone. my doctor prescribed me Yasmin about maybe 3-4 months ago. i take BC to regulate my period & ease the pain of it (my cramps are unbearable and cause me to get very sick & sometimes pass out). and almost as soon as i started taking it, i was also having UTI-like symptoms, but with no infection whatsoever. my urethra was SO sensitive it even hurt to wash myself sometimes, peeing was painful, i was constantly irritated, dry, and red down there, and sex was nearly impossible. the lack of sex caused me to become somewhat depressed, because i knew my bf was unhappy, just as i was. & besides vaginal problems, i experienced headaches every 2-3 days, and my breasts were sore 24/7 and felt VERY dense, as if they had knots in them. i already have the beginning stages of fibrocystic breast disease (like my mother), so i figured there was NO WAY this pill could be healthy for me to take. so just a few days ago actually, i switched to ortho tri cylen. i've only been on it for about 4 days, so i'm crossing my fingers that those horrible symptoms stay away. for anyone you know who is thinking of going on BC, please tell them to stay away from Yasmin. this site and everyone's posts honestly made me feel so much better. i wish the best for all of you.

I was recently put on Yasmin, I've just finished up my first pack. Some of my friends told me to read the blogs on it cause it's not all that it's cracked up to be. I was originally put on it due to PMDD. I get hellacious PMS and i was told that this pill can help. I also take antidepressants to treat mild depression, so the low/single dose hormone is essential for me. Throughout the past month I've had two migraine headaches which is unusual. I do get headaches but not like these. I can't even open my eyes, eat, or have any noise or light around. It's really awful. I do have the dizzy spells and some gnarly pain in my lower abdomen and in between my shoulder blades. It feels like cramps but I'm not having a period yet. I'm hoping these side effects will go away as my body adjusts but frankly, from these blogs I'm really leery to keep taking this pill. Any recommendations for a girl who needs a monophasic pill and need extra help staying sane during PMS? Any news helps. Thanks and best of luck to us all.

I'm at the end of my 2nd pack of Yasmin and I'm having trouble figuring out these side-effects. My acne is getting slightly better and I didn't get any cramps like I did when I was on tricyclen low. But I've gained probably about 10 pounds and I feel full/bloated all the time. I've never in my life had trouble with weight until I started the pill. I feel like I'm never hungry anymore, yet I still eat like a beast (I don't really know if this is important but I also burp all the time now which is rare for me, I used to have trouble even if I tried to. I know this is something stupid to mention). Second, I've been noticing my mood is not like it used to be. I have moments where I'm fine but then all of a sudden I feel really down and I've had random moments where I want to cry for no real reason. But I sometimes wonder if it's the effect of the pill or maybe I'm bummed out about the less fortunate things happening in my life. My weight gain isn't making things better for the mood. A lot of times I'm sad and I don't really understand why and no matter what I do to try to pick myself up there's a slump. Please help me I can't figure out if it's just me or the pill might have something to do with it.

I was prescribed the generic form of Yasmin by my ob/gyn for irregular periods, severe cramps and as a way to treat my endometriosis (insurance won't pay for a laproscopy until I try some sort of pill). I started taking it two weeks ago and in that time frame, I have had severe mood swings, fatigue and cannot eat because of my stomach hurting while suffering from nausea all the time. I even had to call my family doctor and he prescribed me Compazine for the nausea because I literally could not function. I am not the same person I was before starting the treatment. As a stay at home mother of a two year old, I have just decided this morning, that I am going to stop taking Yasmin for myself (my health) and my child. As a matter of fact, I threw the rest of the pack away down the sink. It is not worth all of these side effects when I cannot function during the day. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. At least I know that I am not alone.

Maybe I'm one of the few - but I'm not having terrible side effects like it sounds most of you are having. I have a constant mild headache - which I've learned to deal with. My breasts enlarged - that wasn't a bad thing. And I have this weird fluttering thing with my heartbeats, but my dr. says it's nothing to worry about. However, I no longer have 2 week long periods that have beyond heavy bleeding. And the cramps I do experience don't even come close to what I had before I went on the pill. I've been on birth control now for 8 years (mircette for 6 years, Yasmin/ocella for 2). I would much rather deal with the side effects I'm having, than have to go through life with periods the way they were.

Like many of you here... i am extremely happy to have found this website. I have been on Yasmin for about 5 years (frightening!!) and not until yesterday did i realize that all of the peculiar things that have been happening to my body must be connected to this pill. Let's start with the weight gain...

I am 5'9" and have always weighed about 128-132 lbs... As soon as i started taking the pill i jumped up to 138lbs and then over the course of 2-3 years peaked at 160 lbs!! I have struggled to lose that weight for years, exercising daily (with a trainer and also running, doing bikram yoga etc) and eating immaculately (under the supervision of one of New York's best nutritionists..) the result?? not much! i have struggled to lose 10 lbs and have remained at this weight (around 150 ) for about a year!! no matter how many crunches i do, laps i run, and vegetables/ salmon i eat my tummy and midsection is flabby, bloated etc. and i can't shake this weight

next up... i am always tired but yet have trouble sleeping... lie awake at night clutching my chest thinking i'm having a heart attack. fluttering heart/ palpitations etc. they always pass but i thought i was mad until i came across this site.

phantom leg pains... i have inexplicable cramps in my lower legs... thought they were blood clots. have been to see about 20 doctors... all over the world... been tested for blood clots w/ ultrasound, been tested for nerve damage, muscle damage, bone density issues... you name it. even went down the whole eastern medicine, acupuncture route... NOTHING!! nobody can diagnose it or even locate any issue.

these pains also wake me in the night.

last, but not least, i develop hyperpigmentation when i expose my face to the sun... basically looks like a have a moustache b/c my skin darkens... i know this is normal for any birth control/ hormone pill but figured i'd throw it in anyway! also noticed hair on my lip/ sideburns which i promptly removed with laser but i'm now thinking might have been from the Yasmin.

i am midway through a packet but as of today i am stopping. praying that the weight will fall off and the weird aches and pains and imaginary heart attacks will stop.

thank you all for your posts and good luck! does anyone have any updates as to their progress since getting off it??? i promise to post an update in a few months to hopefully help anyone with similar issues!!

all the best!
GM

Hi, I am so relieved that I decided to finish with Yasmin after just 4 months. ...ESPECIALLY, after reading all the above severe health warnings and symptoms many have experienced. I am 38 with 2 small children and after over 10 yrs of not being on the pill I decided to take it again for PMT reasons and lighter periods. I too have noticed the migraine type headaches are far more frequent but more so I have noticed a worrying tightness in what seems the arteries in my neck which I have been paranoid could be the beginning of clots. Last week I also had a heaviness in my right side mainly my arm and went numb on right side of my face and lips whilst out shopping last week. I was scared to death as thought I was having a mild stroke at the time. This was the end for me. That day I never took another pill from that Yasmin pack. It is not worth it. I also felt quite anxious, wound - up, depressed and neurotic during the last 4 months on Yasmin. I am now back to ovulation cramps and heavier periods again but who cares at least I know this isn't life threatening which I believe Yasmin has the potential to be with regards to thrombosis and other severs health risks etc to some users.

I just finished my last pack of Yasmin. I rarely post messages on sites such as these - I'm not in the medical field and don't have the expertise to tell anyone what they should or should not be taking. However, after my experience with this drug, I feel like I need to contribute to the large population of women who had bad experiences with it. I'm not the kind of person who cries easily and am usually a very laid-back and easy going person. I started taking Yasmin in June after 8 years of not taking the pill. It was great for the first 3 months or so - my periods were like clock work, they were short lived, I stopped having cramps. Then I started getting upset for no reason - crying at the drop of a hat, getting unreasonably angry and irritated at my poor, incredibly sweet and patient fiancee for the smallest things. I was exhausted - even though I'd sleep a routine 8-9 hours a night. I'm normally a happy person and I literally stopped being happy 3 weeks out of the month. The first week after my period - when the drugs were in the first week, I would be happy as a clam - in fact, happier than I normally would be. I'd feel every day like I'd won a marathon. The second week into the drugs, I'd become quiet and anti-social. Near the end of that second week and up until the end of the pack - I would completely change into a different person. You could track all of this with military timing. I wondered for a long time if I was becoming depressed or anxious - I've had ADD my entire life and been through bouts of depression and anxiety in my teens and early 20's. Since starting my ADD meds 5 years ago, I'd never had another issue with them. This pill brought it all back. Though it cleared up my acne and gave me regular cycles again, its effect on my mental health was just not worth it. I have started to take a new pill and if that doesn't work, I'll try again. I just wanted whoever reads this to talk to their doctor, especially those women with a history of depression, ADD, or anxiety, and let them know the concerns you have. If you take Yasmin or are starting it, call them immediately after you start getting these symptoms so that you don't have to suffer through months of wondering what the heck is wrong with you. Life's too short and there are other forms of birth control out there.

I have been on Yasmin now since November. I have not experienced any of the scary side effects that most of the women here have suffered. In fact Yasmin was a lifesaver for me. I suffered from terrible cramps before and was not on any type of birth control. After trying Yasmin my first period was cramp free. My breasts have grown in size and my sex drive has actually increased, not decreased. I guess different people have different reactions to any type of medication but I am enjoying Yasmin. It's the perfect type of birth control for me definitely.

I posted a story on January 16 about my 16 year old daughter who turned out to have Factor V Leiden. She went on Yaz and nearly died a few weeks later. Factor V Leiden really is very common. Especially if you have Scandinavian blood or red hair. But it affects all races and ethnicities at lower levels. If you want to read more, the New York Times had a good article on February 24, 2008. It was about the decision whether to get a genetic test before going on birth control. B. A.

I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years. My breasts grew from a C cup to a DD-E cup within a couple of months. I am a size 6-8, small frame. I know cellulite occurs in thin women, but within the last 5 months (after never having it at all) I have developed a lot of cellulite in my thighs and bottom. I am absolutely convinced this is hormone related. Apart from this my periods are pain free and my moods are pretty normal I think. I have experienced a low sex drive for a while and it's definitely still not what it used to be. The thing is with the pill is that it is obviously not meant for everybody. Different pills affect bodies differently. I have tried about 5 different pills, Loette, Marvelon, Yasmin, LevlenLD, none with great results. I stayed with Yasmin for so long primarily because it alleviated my cramps and horrible periods. For me it's time to come off. I know my body is reacting badly to the pill and to be honest I can't be bothered with it anymore. In the last month I have experienced a dramatic increase in cellulite and terrible tenderness in my breasts to the point that I cringe whenever I take off my bra. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same dramatic breast increase and tenderness?

I am about to start Yasmin. I'm a little scared after having read all of this, but talking with my doctor today encouraged me greatly. I have been on two other kinds of birth control (Sprintec and the NuvaRing). Both gave me such terrible side affects that I have had to quit them. I have always been an extremely healthy person and I've never been an emotional person either (Im very even tempered normally). But since I've been on both of these, I've felt like I was going to pass out, been so tired but unable to sleep, nauseous, massive headaches, changes in every part of my body (dryness - everywhere - itchiness, hair growth changes, dropping sex drive, skin break outs, shortness of breath, heavy periods, extreme cramps and abdominal pains, muscle soreness and random shooting pains.) it has been terrible and my husband (while he's been an angel) is about as exhausted as I am. My emotions are across the board...I have cried several times a day and been angry and moody just as often.

My doctor told me today that my specific set of hormones may not be a fit for any type of birth control. He said there is a small percentage of women who are like this - our hormones will reject anything that messes with them. He suggested that I try Yasmin, because the hormones are supposedly more natural. He said they should match up with my natural hormones better so my body won't reject it and cause all those nasty side effects. He saidnif this one doesn't work, he's going to fit me for a diaphragm.

Did anybody else's doctor tell them something similar before they started this one? How has it gone?

I've been on Yasmin for about 2 1/2 months now, For the first couple of weeks, I had bad cramps that weren't from my period. It was like sharp pains in my lower stomach. It went away after a while, but I'm still having constant head aches. I always got headaches here and there before the Yasmin. But they're more often now, At first I thought it they were work-related. But I even get them when I'm not at work. Every once in a while I get a sharp pain in my chest, but that's every once in a while. I haven't really had any numbness of the limbs, nausea, or mood swings. But these headaches are noticeable, Has anyone else had these?

I had been on Yaz for almost a year. I have tried EVERYTHING!!! I went to Yaz after trying even the Nuvaring. It seemed like everything from regular Ortho was too strong and the ring was too little. I've been on birth control since I was 17 (now I'm 26) and have tried it all. I mainly stayed on because of cramping and digestive trouble I used to experience around my period. For about 3 months Yaz was great- no mood swings, my cramp pain was cut in half, and my sex drive lost on the ring came back. However, after about the 5th month, I started to notice the same side effects as other posters; headaches, night sweats, fatigue, numbness in my legs, moodiness, zero libido, and the carpal tunnel in my wrists would increase in pain by 10 fold, etc. In fact, it was getting so bad, that my husband was getting annoyed with me saying I was always tired even though I would sleep 8 hours and not have any other outside stressors impacting my sleep patterns. We almost divorced over the stupid, but outrageous, fights I would pick for no reason at all! I would get so irritated at the smallest thing. It was like a switch would flip and I couldn't turn it off! I couldn't figure out why I was so fatigued- I exercise and eat right (I'm a nutritionist)and have played sports for years!. The depressing feelings bothered me because I know that eating right and exercising keeps serotonin levels at an even keel- that's what I do for a living! Mine were way off for no reason! It got to the point that my friends noticed a huge change in my personality- I used to be the life of the party, and now I would rather stay in instead of go out and socialize with my best friends and husband! Thank you for writing these blogs. I can't wait to feel normal again! I'd rather deal with the cramps or take some homeopathic remedy than deal with this horrible drug. There is a great article on cnn.com about birth control pills and libido/ side effects. Just search for "the pill" and the article should come up.

I haven't yet started Yasmin but I was taking Yaz for a few months and have had my OBGYN switch me to the lower dose of hormone, Yasmin, because I was literally having my period every 2 weeks! And this wasn't just spotting-this was a full blown period! My skin had remained fairly clear and I don't get nearly as many breakouts as I used to. However, I am on an antibiotic and wash my face with benzoyl peroxide and use a cream so that could be why my skin is clearing up but I think Yaz contributed. I noticed with Yaz that I wasn't nearly as emotional and crazy as when I took Ortho Tri Cyclen low. But once I started getting a heavy cycle (cramps included) with Yaz, I switched to Yasmin so we'll see how that goes. I noticed on Yaz I still got cramps but they weren't unbearable and usually only lasted the first day of my period. I also tend to get mild yeast infections that I attribute to birth control but no headaches like others were getting and my sex drive has increased or decreased-it's about the same. Yasmin is about $10.00 cheaper on my insurance than Yaz so that's another plus. I can't say much about Yasmin right now but I know Yaz caused bi-weekly periods and I definitely wanted to eat everything in sight so, because I was eating and had low energy and did not want to work out, I obviously gained a few lbs but nothing too obvious. Maybe like 2 or 3lbs. Mostly there is bloating in my stomach. My breasts arent tender though like others get and I didn't have stomach pains or constipation with Yaz. Compared to Ortho Tri Cyclen lo, Yaz was a miracle pill. If not for the bi-weekly periods due to the high levels of hormes, I wouldn't have switched to Yasmin.

i personally have had the best experience with my Yasmin birth control. I have been on it for 5 years now. Before Yasmin I was a wreck. Before i ever took any birth control i had my period twice a month, super heavy bleeding,10 days, and cramps so bad I would pass out. I even bled for 5 months straight on the Depoprovera shot. I found all of the tricyclic pills make me crazy and over emotional. I have tried so many different kinds of pills and birth control all with the result of bleeding for months on end and finally my doctor recommended Yasmin and I have been completely happy with it. I have not gained weight, I do not get migraines (and i did with other birth control pills), I am much more emotionally stable (although I will never be a hundred percent sane, but I blame genetics for that one) I have never gotten pregnant, I have not suffered any gastrointestinal side effects, I finally have regular 7 day periods and my cramps are less horrible, my skin has cleared up, i have a perfectly healthy if not over active sex drive, my breast are not particularly tender ever, I don't get any more yeast infections than before, basically it is my saving grace in my opinion. I must also add to this that I did stop taking Yasmin once for 5 months in these 5 years just to see how I am without BC and nothing crazy happened. My periods were heavier, i had worse cramps, my skin broke out. I expected all of that to happen. A month after getting back on Yasmin I was back to my happy ol self again. One last thing is that I did try the Ocello generic version of Yasmin and it was all bad for me. I once again bled for 2 months even though I only took it for two weeks, and i went completely nutso overemotional chick. Long story short, everyone is built differently, not every BC will be the right one for you. Try some different ones out. If you are on a pill and it is not doing the right things for you then switch it instead of taking it for 2 years and then blogging about how miserable it makes you. I will leave you with a wonderful quote from I don't know who but I live for this saying "More orgasms, fewer kids, copulate, don't populate!" HOORAY

I was on Yasmin for 3 months or so earlier this year, and ended up going off of it because of side effects, but looking back on it now, I may have just found out what caused my gastrointestinal problems that I've had since then.

I was put on Yasmin like a lot of other people because I was having really irregular periods - like, I would go 2 or 3 months without a period, and all of my periods were EXTREMELY heavy. My gynecologist put me on Yasmin as a first attempt, saying it was the least amount of hormones, it wouldn't screw me up, I'd lose weight, acne would clear up (now, I've never had much acne, but most of what I had actually was related to the make up I was using. Let's clarify that now).

It worked miracles for me for my period. I was completely regular, normal flow, exact amount of days, barely any cramps. After about 2 months, though, I started having... not really mood swings, but emotionally violent reactions. I'd overreact to things, I'd freak out about things - I wouldn't necessarily have panic attacks, but I essentially had mini breakdowns. For example, one day, I was in hysterics for 5 or 6 hours because I thought that registration for the next semester started that day, and I had missed getting into the class I wanted.

My parents made me get off the Yasmin, thinking that had to be the only thing that could cause them. They even went so far as to confiscate all the packages I had, knowing I had no way to get any more, just in case I tried to use it without them knowing (this makes me sound like an addict. They were just overreacting, though).

Within 2 weeks of stopping, my mood swings were almost completely gone. Looking back, there was some nervousness and depression in those months as well, but the emotional lability was the most prominent thing.

Now, around Summer 2007, I began having stomach and hip pains - the stomach pains around my period, and hip pains (I call them hip pains, they felt like a 1-inch diameter steel rod was being stabbed through my pelvis) with exercise. We assumed that the stomach pains were cramps, but as it reached into Fall 07 and neither went away, they simply got worse, we began to worry. We considered appendicitis, cysts on my ovaries, nothing turned up. Eventually we determined that the hip pains were probably due to my cyatic nerve being pinched, and figured that the stomach pains were associated, and went on with life. I dropped my dance classes, and the hip pains went away. The stomach pains continued to worsen, though.

They were still focused around my period, though, and I was beginning to have diarrhea due to the pain. These pains would literally tense my ab muscles so bad I couldn't move. Around the time I went on Yasmin, however, they got a lot worse. I was no longer just having diarrhea around my period, it was all month long, every bite I put in my mouth. It was worse around the period, however.

After I went off the Yasmin, though, the gastrointestinal problems have never gone away. I have been through nearly every test I could be put through to figure out what has caused such severe stomach problems. The cramps have all but gone away, but there are days where I'm so sick I can't even drink water. I had to do a non-academic withdrawal from most of my classes this semester because of how bad my stomach is.

Now, I'm not saying for sure that my stomach problems are linked to the Yasmin, but... let's just say there's a strong chance, and I'm going to my doctor and having them pull my records tomorrow.

I have been on Yasmin since April of this year, 2008. My doctor put me on Yasmin because of a hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS. At first, all I noticed was my periods had become regular and my skin had cleared up. About 4-6 weeks later, I started experiencing EXTREME pain in my right breast. After the onset of the pain, just my right breast became enlarged. A few weeks later I started having chest/heart pains at random times. It started occurring when I would run and that made me really scared. I had the feeling of having a heavy rock on my chest and wasn't able to get a real breath. After an EKG my doctor confirmed that my heart was healthy. Here is a list of some of the other side effects that I noticed: no sex drive, weight gain, TIREDNESS, forgetfulness, cramps in my legs, but only while sleeping, extreme thirst.

I am so grateful that I found this website. It's just awful to hear some many other women complaining of the same symptoms.

Hi.
I was on Yasmin for about 9 months and stopped taking it about a year ago. I had been on a few other pills in the past while in college and always had problems. When I was given Yasmin it was after an abortion and my doctor and I agreed that maybe it was time to give Birth Control one more chance. Since I had had such a bad time with the pill in the past we went with a low dosage (Yasmin).
I have always had great skin but around 22 I started to have adult acne... mostly attributed to the high level of stress I am always under with work and all. Yasmin worked great in getting my skin back on track, my periods were definitely shorter and lighter. I have always been prone to terrible cramps and heavy bleeding. The pill was great for the first two months or so. Soon I started to notice that I was gaining wait despite the fact that I eat really well and really don't eat more than I ever did before. I had 0 sex drive to the point that I started finding ways to avoid having sex with my boyfriend....at one point we did not have sex for 2.5 months. He was an angel and never really complained. But I started to have a problem with it. And it seemed I had a problem with just about everything. I was overly emotional and having rage fits and would just pick fights with him and anyone I could get my hands on. I didn't develop out of the blue migraines.... but my headaches became more severe and frequent. While I was feeling this way I knew it was irrational and unprovoked and made little to no sense but I just couldn't stop. I felt like it wasn't me anymore. I didn't understand the things that I was feeling. I was reacting and behaving in a way that was just uncharacteristic of me. And then I also started spotting every month towards the end.
One day I just decided... I had to stop right away. But I was worried about going off of the pill. I switched to something else and that switch made me feel even worst and I just couldn't deal anymore. I had to be free of these awful feelings.
At first I felt better right away. My period was still lighter and less painful than it had been before Yasmin. It was as if I had never been on Yasmin at all. I lost 15 pounds right away and have kept them off.
About three months after I stopped my periods became painful again (I expected this would eventually return).... but worst... I started getting my periods really late. In June it was two weeks late. I took so many pregnancy tests that all were negative but still my period would not come. I called my doctor and she said it was probably the heat. Apparently this happens to some women in the summer when its too hot. But I am indoors all day at work so it just didn't make sense. Then July... same thing... two weeks late.... August same thing. but exactly two weeks. ( I always get it on a Sunday after being on the pill)
Then September... it was only a week late so I thought Oh! maybe I am getting back on track. mind you this whole time I am ovulating on time... so I am PMSing for a really long time. Then October roles around and I'm two weeks late again... and November only a week and four days late... got it on a Thursday night out with friends.
Now I don't know if this has anything at all to do with the fact that I was on Yasmin. It might be totally unrelated.. but since no one had mentioned it I just wanted to ask if anyone had experienced anything like it?

I am 28 and have been on Yasmin for 2+ years...recently switched to the generic. Other then a little touch of nauceousness around my period I do not experience any bad side effects. In fact Yasmin seems to regulate my period and cramps. I do have some anxiety issues which I treat with a drug called Celexa. With Yasmin and Celexa as part of my daily routine I feel well balanced and happy.

This is a warning to those of you who are going off of Yasmin in an attempt to get pregnant! (along with a few other issues)

I was on Yasmin for almost 3 years, and I'd like to first say that I had SO many stomach issues since being on it that I had eventually been sent to a gastroenterologist by my GP. My gynecologist swore up and down that Yasmin could in no way be the reasoning for my stomach issues (nausea, motion sickness, diarrhea etc) however, I've recently gone off of Yasmin in an attempt to get pregnant. Here's where my huge problem comes into play... About a week and a half after going off of the pill I started having severe dizzy spells as well as fatigue. These symptoms persisted for the next 2 weeks or so and then about 4 days before I was supposed to get my period I started experiencing intense cramps. Of course my fiance and I were a little bit disappointed because this meant that those side effects meant we hadn't successfully conceived. So a few days go back, as does the usual Wednesday that I receive my period. So Thursday I decided to take a pregnancy test and to our complete and utter surprise it came out positive! We were so excited, as were our friends and families. So again, a few days go by (and I never got my period) and my cramps persisted night and day. Then I started experiencing sickness at night time when I tried to go to bed. We of course thought this was due to the pregnancy. Then Monday at about 4AM I woke up in complete and utter pain and went to the bathroom and came to find out I was bleeding. We completely panicked thinking I was miscarrying. I ended up spending that entire day in the hospital and later the next day we found out I was never pregnant. We had gone through a river of emotions within those 2 days and although we were very glad we hadn't miscarried, it was also devastating to realize we were not yet pregnant. False positives are very rare, and I'd have to say that they SUCK. So watch out girls, and make sure to go to the doctors for a blood test ASAP before getting too excited. Just wanted to let you all know.

As for us, we're going to keep on trying and hoping for the best. I of course never intend on going back on Yasmin as I've discovered I've been completely wasting my and my gastroenterologist's time due to this medication.

I had been on Yasmin for about 2 years and it was great. I had no adverse side effects. My periods where shorter and lighter and I did not have the horrible cramps I had before getting on the pill. I loved it. Then about three months ago the pharmacy switched me to the generic, Ocella, which the pharmacist insisted was exactly the same, but beware it is not! I have gained about 15 pounds, I had to go up a whole bra size because my breasts are so swollen, my breast are tender and ache most of the time, and as of right now I have been bleeding badly for two weeks and I have never bled when it wasn't time for my period. My OBGYN said the generic was most likely the cause. I know the generic is cheaper but do not take it. Yasmin is well worth the extra money. I am getting back on it immediately! A lot of people do blame the pills for stuff that would have happened anyways. So do not be scared to take Yasmin. Everything isn't for everyone but it was good for me. It's done it's main job which is to keep me from getting pregnant and isn' that the reason most of us take birth control for? So put up with a few side effects, at least you don't have a baby to deal with!!!

Hi, Ive just turned 18 and something very similar happened to me. I have been on Yasmin for 5 months now and yesterday I got really bad cramps and passed out in the shower. I have been feeling a bit odd for a while now so my boyfriend took me to hospital. We thought that i might be pregnant since i have been having the following symptoms for over a week now:
hot flushes (mostly at night)
nausea
cramps
really bad headaches that last for days
light nervousness
and I feel so so tired all the time even if I have slept for 10 hours
im not sure what is wrong with me and its been really frightening. I never though it could be the pill but after reading all these posts im now starting to wonder...
