May 2006 I stopped taking Yasmin after being on it for a few years. I was having bad sinus congestion, sinus pressure, headaches and post nasal drip but never thought it was because of Yasmin. I went to a ENT doctor and the tissue in my sinsus cavities was so inflamed he recommended surgery. I also had a deviated septum and bone spur which were corrected. After the surgery (August 2006) I felt great. I exercise A LOT and it was now so much easier because I could breathe without all the fluid buildup. I kept thinking what a miracle the surgery was. March 2007 I started taking Ortho-tricyclen and quickly gained 10lbs in 2 months. I also had mood swings mostly feeling down. But I was still able to run and exercise more than I had in many years. March 2008 I went in for my annual exam and after mentioning my side effects from Ortho-tricyclen my doctor recommended going back on Yasmin since it had worked before. Two days after starting Yasmin my sinus problems and headaches returned. I was so low on energy and my chest felt tight. The only good thing is that I lost my appetite and in one month I lost 7 of the 10 lbs I gained on Ortho. I stopped taking Yasmin this past weekend in the middle of a pack. I am feeling better and have not had a headache this week. I was also able to run yesterday which felt so good. I hadn’t exercised in a month because of my lack of energy and difficulty breathing. Had I not been on it before I would have thought this was just a bad allergy season. I am convinced Yasmin was the cause of all my sinus problems and headaches.

I only took Yasmin for a few months. I am in the military, so I have to run on a regular basis. Shortly after I started taking Yasmin, I realized I was having difficulty breathing when I was running (I hate running, but I had never had problems breathing before) It literally felt like someone was sitting on my chest. I kept pushing myself while working out, and i just couldn't breathe, it was crazy. I had even gone to the doctor and had blood work and chest xrays for the breathing problems! I didn't realize it was the Yasmin, though. I stopped taking it because I realized it was making me very irritable, and lo and behold i can breathe again when I run. It's such a remarkable difference.

I've been taking it for 10 days now, and I have the same side-effects like most of the women... Extreme fatigue, sleepy (yet waking up every few hours at night), difficulty breathing while running (I'm a runner 25 miles/wk), breast tenderness and breast enlargement, dry eyes, nausea, hungry all the time. Can anyone please tell me, that if I stop taking it today, when can I expect my period back? I'm getting married in 11 days and I really don't want my period on my wedding day or honeymoon. Any good advice from anyone?

i took yasmin for nine months. i quit taking it about 2 monthe ago. after all of the things i've been going through i never realized it was from the pill. i started having severe upret stomachs. Sever pain and severe embarressment!! i was diagnosed with irritable bowl movement!!! well for the past 2 months i have not had 1 upset stomach!!!!!!! and i was having then for nine monthe everyday!! (AT least once)
Then i was having severe shortness of breath. i had such chest pain and difficulty breathing that i had a chest x-ray and perscriptions and the works. nothing was found. My doctor ASSMUED it was Restrictive airway disease. it wasn't!!!
ALSO and what i think has affected my life the most is that i feel that my happiness had been drained. For months i have been on the vurge of crying all the time. my anxiety is horrible and for the fisrt time in my like i am having pannic attacks. when things get overwelming i just can't breath and i get dizzy. I have a beautiful 20 month old and a wonderful husband. I should not be forced to feel this way. I'm a stay at home mom and i don't even have motivation to clean, play anything. and when i do i break out in sweats and have a panic attack. i hope it ends. its been two months and still the same. ALSO i had two normal periods since i quit and now i'm 2 weeks late with my third. i've had horrible cramps and i thought i was pregnant but am not. Has anyone experienced that. i really hope this helps someone.

I have been on Yasmin for about 9 months and for the last 7 or 8 months have been having extreme difficulty breathing. I have always been an avid runner and been in very good shape, but noticed while weight training one day that I was having a hard time catching my breath, like I just couldn't get enough air. I thought maybe I was getting a little cold and dismissed it. Day after day it got worse and worse and has been an ongoing problem now for 8 months. At first it started in my workouts and progressed to the point where daily activities have me short of breath. I thought it was allergies, went on allegra, then zyrtec, then inhalers. Have NEVER had breathing problems in my life, used to run 5-6 miles a day and now can barely make it to 3. Have also been weirdly irritable all the time, to the point where I don't even feel like talking to my family or friends. Also just unhappy in general, for absolutely no reason, it's like I'm not sad, but I'm not happy, I'm just there. I've never been like that before. It's been so frustrating and I'm pretty sure my boyfriend thinks I'm crazy, which I was starting to think myself. It was such a relief to find this website, I can't believe I went so long dealing w/ this. I just finished my last pack and will not be starting a new one. Has anyone else had a similar experience w/ the shortness of breath?

I had chest pains and difficulty breathing with this pill. I started taking it on a Wednesday...had chest pains the following Monday and was at the emergency room Thursday and Saturday. I've never been this sick until I took it. So, I'm very positive that everything that's been happening to me is from this pill.

I have been on it since July and I hate it. I constantly have abdominal cramps, my breast are tender and when I have my period it is dark brown bleeding. Not to mention, I feel down most of the time. I agree with the difficulty breathing. I got diagnosed two weeks after starting the Yasmin with asthma because I stayed short of breath but I think it was the Yasmin. Everything changed once I started the Yasmin.

Oh boy. I took Yasmin for three weeks to try to shrink an endometrioma. The first day I took it I ended up in the ER with difficulty breathing - two days later I began to have tightness in my chest (I actually think it was that my already too big boobs got so big they strained my pectoral muscles) and was admitted with suspicion of a heart attack! While in the hospital they did every test imaginable on me and all the heart tests came out negative. I was without my Yasmin while in the hospital, but still felt awful and was peeing constantly even though I was clearly dehydrated (dark yellow urine). To make matters worse, they had me on the 'cardiac' diet - NO salt - which meant that my electrolytes were really getting screwed up.

From that time until /this/ week - two weeks after I stopped the Yasmin, I suffered severe dizziness, strange headaches, dilated veins in my breasts and chest, and severe anxiety. And we will not speak of the fact that the Yasmin made the spotting that was one reason I was taking the pill WORSE and, like many of the women on this list, it became dark brown and sticky. (and the fact that the Pill hadn't done its job led my gyno to send me for more invasive tests of my uterus - I don't mind ruling out things like endometrial cancer, but I had successful treatment with Provera some months ago and so I don't think I have anything /worse/ than endo, which is bad enough).

My research on this med showed that Yasmin is a potassium-sparing diuretic that flushes salt, magnesium and other important electrolytes from your system. Without adequate salt in your system, if you drink too much fluid (and many ladies here have been guzzling) you could actually get water intoxication and, if bad enough, /die/... if you drink Gatorade to help yourself, you may get too much potassium in your system (because Yasmin is potassium-sparing), which can cause palpitations and irregular heartbeat among other things. Be very very careful with this drug, ladies. I hear some of you saying you have been on it a year in spite of horrible effects - methinks maybe you should try a diaphragm? Good luck and peace!
