I am 18 years old and ive been taking Yasmin for about 2 years, and tonight i came across all of these stories of bad experiences.
after putting together the pieces, ive realized that im not crazy after all! i have had every symptom out there for this pill except high blood pressure and nausea.
i used to be 135 pounds before i got on this pill, and now i am 160 pounds.
i find myself crying all the time, im surprised my boyfriend can put up with it.
i have no energy, all i want to do is sleep. i get sharp pains behind my eyes that cause me to shift them to find a spot where it wont hurt. i have no sex drive at all. i constantly feel depressed and sometimes don't want to live. im so tired of feeling this way.
the only good thing that happened for me was that my skin had cleared up tremendously!
and now i want to just stop and quit this pill right now! im just afraid my acne will come back.
this pill should not be given to women, all of these stories show great reasons on why its harmful.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS PILL!! ITS NOT WORTH IT.
im glad i found all this out before it was too late.
my boyfriend wants me to finish the rest of my pill pack but i just want to stop right now.
i don't know what to do.
if i continue taking this pill for the rest of the pack i will feel worse about it each day knowing its harming my body and life.
help.

Wow.....how horrible to hear about your experiences, but I too am glad I found you and want to share my own experiences as well. Was using natural family planning for birth control and it was going great, then all of the sudden, started bleeding frequently and heavily, so my gyn put me on it to regulate the hormonal imbalance or possible endo and I have been a mess....people have noticed I'm really anxious and I am a pretty laid back person, I am irritable, depressed, cannot sleep, decreased sex drive, sore and stiff, and had several incidents of crushing pain in chest and numbness and tingling in my arms. The weight gain is horrible, I just got back from getting professional pictures done and itr was so evident that my face is so round and puffy and I cannot wear a lot of my clothing now. I have only been on it two months, but quit taking it a few days ago and am calling the doc tomorrow to get her advice. This pill is the worst birth control I have ever used-and I've tried several kinds......

okinawak so sorry to hear about your daughter. All I can relate to you guys is my personal experience. I was on Norimin for a couple of years from the age of 19. For the last year (up until a couple of months ago) I was on Yasmin. I experienced anxiety whilst taking these pills which I attributed to stress, but since I have been off the pills I am feeling fantastic. I stopped taking Yasmin because I was experiencing other things like pains in my calves, hair loss and getting spider veins, loss of libido (I'm only 23). :-( I decided upon reading other experiences on this page to stop taking Yasmin. I am happy to report back that I am feeling great... Fantastic in fact. I won't say that its directly related to Yasmin as I have no way of proving that. All I can say is how I felt during and after. And for the last three months I have felt greater confidence in my ability to deal with what life throws at me. I am feeling happier all the time, and I think my libido is improving. All the best to you guys, and all those out there worried about symptoms, please go see your doctor!

I'm 21 and have been on Yasmin for 3 and a half months for bad acne. I was originally on Dianette but experience such severe side effects I honestly thought I'd be hospitalized, so I asked my doctor for Yasmin. All was fine for the first 2 months, but I'm now getting horrible pain in my right leg which won't go away no matter what, coupled with a pins and needles type feeling in my feet. I'm also developing spider veins on my legs, It's got to the point where I'm scared to look at my legs now in case any more have shown up! I've decided I'll come off it in a month or so, but don't know what to do to keep my acne at bay. Does anyone know of any natural remedies? I don't wanna keep messing around with drugs and hormones in case I cause long term damage!
Also, has anyone else gone to their doctor about these side effects, only to find the doctor says 'its nothing to do with the pill' when clearly it is! I saw 3 different doctors about my dianette problems, none of them believed it was down to the pill, but when I stopped taking it, my problems disappeared :/

Yasmin is a steroid so when coming off it you can suffer all the same symptoms as someone stopping a steroid drug... and by the way, when people are taken off steroids it's done in a controlled way - they cut down on them very slowly by reducing the dosage. It's a real shock to the body to just stop a steroid. This could explain why a lot of us feel so terrible when we stop taking it. I know I had a real increase in severity of symptoms followed by months and months of exhaustion and fatigue.

I cannot recall off the top of my head how long I've been on Yasmin, but its been at least 3 years. I feel very tired a lot of the time, and I have little to no energy, except for a few days before my period starts, then I feel great and happy go lucky. My brother died over 10 years ago, and I was using an anti-depressant, so I kept thinking my depression was from my grief of losing my brother. Now, reading some of these posts and other women's experiences with Yasmin, I'm starting to think maybe Yasmin is the cause of my depression. I'm usually an energetic person, and love to be outside and enjoy being around people. Most of the time now, I'd rather be sleeping or being by myself. Thanks, everyone, for your experience of using Yasmin. I think I have a valid reason for seeing my doctor, to get off of Yasmin. I am not in any relationship, and the only reason my doctor put me on Yasmin was to regulate my periods, though they are usually fairly light to normal, and always have been.

I've been on Yasmin for almost 3 years and have had no bad experiences except for a little constipation that cannot be cured by an apple a day. Prior to yasmin I tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Ortho-Low which both made me gain weight and become moody. I also tried the patch that made me gain a lot more weight and become extremely moody! tried the NuvaRing, and they you cannot feel it but I could and also felt really moody on it but couldn't tell with the weight since I had gained so much on the other stuff. My friend recommended Yasmin to me and since then I have loved it. You can't be on oral contraceptives and live a lazy lifestyle. You've got to be healthy and active. Exercise increases positive endorphines that will help you keep a healthy mood. When I went on Yasmin I lost 40 pounds of the weight that I gained from the other stuff. In addition some little acne I had cleared up. I have not experienced moodiness on Yasmin but again I eat healthy and exercise A LOT which I think helps tremendously.

My doctor did have me try taking "yaz" for 2 months and please DO NOT confuse the two. Yaz was completely horrible for me and my period became wacky. My OB explained that all women have hormonal changes throughout their whole life and that Yasmin may not be right for me forever but right now it seems to be the best choice. She said all women are different and some may experience it horribly.

So those of you reading all the negative posts below - please do not be scared of by it because you do not know what is good for your body by the basis of someone else experience.

If you do research on Yasmin as with any other drug you can see that there are something that you need to consider when deciding to go on this drug. Yasmin is also different because it uses potassium.

These reviews are pretty scary to me ... I've been taking Yasmin for about 5 years. Late last year, I started getting what seemed like a full period (not just spotting) almost exactly two weeks into my pill pack. Then I'd get another full period when I got to the end of the pack, and I went ahead and took the sugar pills because I didn't want to mess around with my cycle (which I've done in the past, with negative results). My doc switched me to reclipsen for a month (which I've read bad things about too, but not as bad as Yasmin!). I've had NO sex drive for years now, which I've blamed on myself, but it's really affected my relationship w/ my fiance. It's hard because I just can't get excited. I loved Yasmin and recommended it to all my friends because it kept my water weight down. Last month when I went off of it, I gained about 8lb in just a few weeks. I attributed it to going on vacation and not exercising for a week (I normally eat very well and never miss a workout). But since then, the weight has stayed and is very slowly coming off. I'm a personal trainer and I never usually struggle like this. I've also been bloated and it seems like I have an excessive amount of abdominal bloating.
Anyway, after a month on reclipsen, I decided to switch back to Yasmin to see if the month on another drug "tricked" my cycle back into following Yasmin (wishful thinking!). Sure enough, got my period two weeks in. Also got lots of bloating, constipation (never normally a problem for me), and moodiness/ depression. I've had "stomach issues" for years, and I've even had a colonoscopy with no real diagnosis. My abdomen is always tender to the touch. I never would've thought Yasmin could be a cause, but now I really wonder. Also, in the last couple weeks that I took Yasmin again, I noticed days where it felt hard to breathe, and I just blamed myself and my weight, figuring it was the few extra things I ate that made me bloat. But now reading other experiences, I realize how unusual my recent experiences are for me. Now I'm not sure what to do -- I don't think reclipsen is a good answer. I want to go off pills completely for a while, but I'm really afraid of weight gain (Yasmin is addictive that way -- I love how it's kept my water weight down and I've been afraid to go off of it). Fortunately, I haven't had the blood clotting (to my knowledge) or acne. But I do have overuse injuries that never seem to heal -- now I wonder how much those relate to Yasmin. I won't be taking it anymore!

It is so funny to read all of the negativity but nothing positive! I came here looking for side effects and get a bashing about how horrid Yasmin/Yaz is! Let me first start off by listing my side effects that I wanted to know about:

breast tenderness
change in appetite
tiredness
red spot in eye

Next, let me tell you that I researched BEFORE taking this medicine because 1. I have MS 2. I suffer from migraines and seizures and 3. I take a whole boat load of medications! My doc recommended Yasmin for PMDD coupled with Sarafem to help my mood right before and during my time of the month. I must say that I have only been on it for about 10 days so I do not know anything of how it works with my period.

I am APPALLED at the fact that there are few, if any, positive comments about this pill! I know for a FACT that it works because I know 7 people personally that are on it that have NO PROBLEMS! So, I ask you all that have negative comments, what is wrong with you, other than you HATE the pill? What OTHER meds were you on while taking it? I read a few comments about stopping for a month and then starting again and then wondering why they felt like crap?? Well HELLO?! You are effing with your body's hormones! And there is a difference between Yaz and Yasmin hormones. If you had a bad experience with Yaz, make sure you are not confusing it with Yasmin! Yaz is a 24 day hormone pill where Yasmin is only 21 days.

I am not a doctor, but like I said, I have done my research. I have suffered with adult acne and PMDD for years. It sucks. If Yasmin helps, I want to know. I don't want to read a bunch of bull about people who mess up their cycles by taking the pill and smoking or taking the pill with meds they shouldn't be taking them with. I know what I can and cannot take. Most of what I take is natural and what is not, well, it CAN be taken with Yasmin. Like the website for Yasmin says and like most of the informational, non-biased websites say, Yasmin and Yaz is not for everyone. Some people cannot handle this type of hormone.

I can guarantee you that some doctor or pharm company can tell you that whatever symptom you are having is from something completely unrelated to the BC you are taking. Warnings are clearly marked...read them and obey!

Hi Everybody, I wrote back in April about my horrible Yasmin experience, and just wanted to update. I've been off Yasmin for almost three cycles now, and although I'm still on blood pressure medication, I've had no headaches, no heart-pounding anxiety attacks, etc. I feel much better all around. Still, it makes me very angry that there are so many women who've had really bad experiences, and this garbage is STILL on the market. I checked the Yaz website, and in the fine print it says you can report your side effects to the FDA by logging on to www.fda.gov/medwatch, or calling 1-800-FDA-1088, SO LET'S DO IT!!!

I was taking Yasmin until mid 2007 and took a break until 3 months ago. Since starting with Yasmin again I've been feeling very unwell. Constant nausea, sever fatigue, hair loss which I have never experienced before, stomach cramps, no energy, weight loss, kidney infections. I have been to the doctor twice in the last week presenting with these symptoms. I have 5 pills left in my third pack of Yasmin and I'm stopping today. Yasmin should be taken off the market- there must have some change to the manufacturing process since I last took Yasmin last year.

I've been on Yasmin for about 3 1/2 years and had nothing but GREAT experiences. My face cleared up (not that it was ever bad though), I lost weight and it elevated my mood and evened out my mood swings. My husband thinks it's the greatest thing ever. One thing I do find interesting, however, is that I have been experiencing more headaches the last year or so. I never thought it was related to Yasmin and neither do my doctors (other than the week I go off of it to have my period and my hormone levels drop). I have stopped taking Yasmin this week as we will be trying to conceive soon. For any out there who are nervous about starting Yasmin after reading these posts, please know that all types of birth control will have side effects. I have had a great experience on Yasmin and so have some of my best friends.

First of all, Yaz and yazmin are two diff pills, yaz was approved a few years after yazmin b/c it held a lower dose of estrogen.

I am a female who had a bad reaction to ortho and the depo shot. I was turned onto yazmin about 4 years ago because I had bad reactions to the other forms I'd tried. I suffer from depression problems as well, and my doctor said that it tested well among people with my background. I loved it.

Anyhoo, the whole reason I am writing, is because I've noticed a pattern in all of the statements on this website: the women who had bad experiences w/Yaz or Yazmin, had good experiences w/Ortho Tricyclen and vise versa. I just find that so amusing!!!

Thank you for your time,

Mel

oh my god!! I have ALL of the same side effects as you do! The only strange thing is that I've been on this pill for 2 1/2 years now and I loved it up until this past week. I missed a pill on Fri so I took two on Saturday night...within 2 hours I was crying hysterically and having a full blow anxiety attack. it was so strange and scary. It came out of nowhere! then i woke up Sunday morning and cried every hour...I've never been like that in my entire life!!!! Now 4 days later my heart keeps "fluttering" (i don't know how else to describe it), I feel like i've been living in a fog...I thought i was going crazy! I am a 23 year old, healthy, active woman so none of my symptoms made sense!! My dr. keeps telling me that I have major anxiety problems (even though i live a very stress-free life and am very upbeat, outgoing and optimistic!) and prescribed me Lexapro. I have had a panic attack in the past, but it feels NOTHING like this. I am also having some inner ear problems, like I maybe have a sinus infection-it kind of pops in and out. anyone else have that? the heart thing and the fog is my biggest concern, should I switch pills or should I just get off BC completely? Any suggestions would help. I have a call into my obgyn right now.

Doing an article on Yasmin, INFO WANTED on Side Effects that occur after you stop taking the pill

Hey okay so I'm doing an article on Yasmin, the side effects that occur when you stop taking the pill, and would like more information on it. I would like to interview ex users of the pills that have experienced either hair loss, lack of period, severe headaches, and just about anything that resulted. I need to write this article ASAP! All experiences are helpful. I too used to be on the pill, and ever since I stopped taking it my cycle has been out of whack. Please contact me either via email gator924@ufl.edu or through AIM: lipsfullbittin or via phone: 786-239-8751.

While most people know some of the side effects of taking the pill, few know the side effects that occur when you stop taking it. It would be a helpful article to any users or future users of the pill, don't you agree?

I've been taking Yasmin for 7 months now...at first it was brilliant! i have had trouble with other pills in the past and Yasmin seemed totally different.
however, after settling down with it, i am starting to experience some side effects. i appreciate that obviously they may not be related to Yasmin but after reading other people's experiences I'm thinking that they probably are!

my hair falls out more than is normal...i used to have really thick hair and now it's getting pretty thin.
i have developed a cyst on the side of my head?!
i get weird pains in the right of my chest and stomach as if I've been exercising too much or sitting balled up for hours.
i have gone off food.
my sex drive is none existent! my boyfriend and i used to do it pretty much every day and now i never want it. we haven't really had any proper sexual contact in over a month.
i had complete loss of vision in one eye.
I'm getting seriously anxious about things that are important, but overly so.
i feel permanently tired and drained no matter how much sleep i get.
i cry 24/7 over absolutely anything... songs, adverts... its ridiculous!?

if i come off Yasmin it'll be the 3rd pill that doesn't agree with my body. I'm gonna have to try something new i think...

I was on Yasmin for a few years and never had any of these symptoms. as far as decreased libido this is common with almost all birth control pills and all other pills have the blood clot risk as well, the majority of the pills have very similar side effects. Before Yasmin I was on ortho tri cyclen and that was a big mistake it really messed up my emotions and threw me into a big depression. I know quite a few other people on Yasmin who have not experienced any of the side effects listed and love it. I only switched form Yasmin because there is no generic and it was too expensive so I switched to another low dose that had a generic and to be honest I miss Yasmin.

Like many of you on this forum, I am glad to have found this site! First though, I would like to say that I understand not every one taking Yasmin experiences the same side effects. I understand that some women probably have wonderful experiences with this medication. However, it frustrates me that while some women might have good experiences with this drug, I think the potential for SEVERE side effects other women could experience should be much more emphasized and researched. The pamphlet inside the Yasmin packaging briefly touches on what they advertise as rare side effects that overall outweigh the benefits of this drug. I think many of the side effects listed on this forum are not even mentioned in the packet. Personally, I believe I have had a horrible experience taking Yasmin for the past 8 months. It is very frustrating to take a medication that advertises itself to help symptoms (such as MOOD SWINGS) and in fact, causes many of these horrible symptoms in some women! I am so sick of the multi-billion dollar prescription drug industry (which seems severely under-regulated by the FDA.) Has anyone seen the fancy Yaz birth control commercial? You know, with the "we're not gonna take it" song? All those skinny models prancing around in a PMS-free world??? OMG PLEASE!!! I can't believe it has taken me this long to realize all of my horrible symptoms have started and only worsened during my time on Yasmin. I thought this pill wasn't related because my skin looks beautiful, I haven't had bad cramps anymore, I've had light periods, and my boobs have gotten bigger. Sounds great, huh? But since taking Yasmin I have also had such horrible mood swings I can't control myself. I feel like a completely different person. I've become extremely impatient, irritated by everyone on this planet, I can't concentrate, and I have looked so bloated at times several people assumed I was pregnant. My self-esteem is ridiculously low, I hate myself, my mirrors, and I accuse my loving boyfriend of the most ridiculous things. I don't see how he even puts up with me! I have become so depressed I rarely want to go out. I'm EASILY offended by the slightest comments and ridiculously paranoid. It is also very hard to go out when many of my clothes (even my "fat pants" do not fit anymore!) I have thought I was crazy, almost quit my job, left my boyfriend, and seriously wanted to kill myself. I'm aware that many of these symptoms could be caused by other things, but honestly, I have contemplated so many other potential causes (such as major depression) and I realize every thing has started during these past months I've been taking Yasmin. I am 21 years old, I do not smoke, and have generally great health. I feel entirely overwhelmed...I honestly don't know what to do.

I was on Yasmin for 4 months. I HATED IT!!! What is the point of being on birth contraol if you never are able to have sex? I was constantly bleeding after the 1st month. It was as if I had my period for 3 striaght months - every single day. And not just spotting, heavy flow. I was depressed, miserable and in so much pain. I had constant cramps and back pain. I went to the ER 2 times because of this and I was told the 1st time that it was just my body's way of getting used to a different pill. After I was on it for 3 months, I went to the ER a second time because I was in so much pain and bleeding so heavily, that I could not get out of bed. I actually had to wear Depends, pads were not nearly enough! The dr at the ER the 2nd time told me that he has had a ton of cases with girls on Yasmin with the same problem and to stop taking it immediatly. About 3 or 4 days after I stopped taking it, everything was back to normal - Thank God! I was extremely hesitant to try another pill after that, but I decided to give Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo a chance and I love it. No random bleeding, no cramps and my periods are always light. Yasmin should be taken off of the market. I have a bunch of friends who tried it and went through the same problems I did.

I'm so glad I googled side effects of Yasmin and found this site. All of the sudden my mood swings for the past almost YEAR make sense. I started out fine. The pill was great, and I haven't had to worry about acne at all. Of course I gained a few pounds, but not too much. However, I'm a pre medical student trying to study for the MCAT this summer. I've been SO tired and drained and majorly depressed that I just can't seem to concentrate. I feel like I'm always crying over the stupidest stuff (AKA: no reason at ALL), and my grades are starting to suffer. Hopefully now that I've read this, I can stop taking this pill and see an improvement. It's just not worth the depression. I'm 22 right now, and until recently had never had a suicidal thought. I was starting to panic, because I couldn't identify the cause of my depression. I'm a good student, have lots of friends, and have the most amazing boyfriend and family. Life is good, I shouldn't feel this bad. Now that I have a clue as to what this may be, I can fix it.

Within five minutes of taking Yasmin for the first time, my throat swelled up and it was difficult to swallow. About ten minutes after that, my left arm began to tingle and feel numb. About 2.5 hours have elapsed and I am still feeling this weird sensation in my arm and throat. I almost went to the ER when I found this website, Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Your words have calmed me down a bit, I will never take Yasmin ever again!!! Good luck to all of you.

I came to this website because my period came on ealry this month, it was on time last month, but i was late in May. So I am really confused. But then I satart reading these other girls side effects with YAzmin and realize that we are all in the same boat. I dont like to leave the house except to go to work, I have even been distant and pissy with my boyfriend. Ive snapped on people, and I do have a quick temper, but I dont snap that quick. And also my libido has been weird, sometimes I have to sike myself to get interested, and sex with my man has always been off the chain. I appreciate you all sharing your experiences. I kept a log of whats been going on with me, I also experienced a little breakouts, but hen my skin has been really dry. And I gained alot of weight within that first month, which is not normal for me. I had to drastical eat like a rabbit just to get the weigh back off because exercise alone was just not doing it, and if you ask my friends, I was always a picky eater from the beginning. My mom has talked to me about the IUD (inter uterine device) and it is completely hormone free, and 99.9% effective. I think I may go that route.

I originally went on Yasmin because I experience horrible menstrual cramps. As a cure for cramps, Yasmin is a miracle. HOWEVER...I have been on it for almost 3 years now & have noticed new issues. I now have insomnia (recurring almost EVERY night). I can fall asleep, but ALWAYS wake up after a couple of hours & usually can't go back to sleep, or sometimes wake up every hour or less. Also, I haven't been able to wear contact lenses in almost 3 years. I have an unusual condition that causes my eyelashes to grow abnormally. I have zero sex drive. Other birth control brands make me moody & angry, but I don't know which is worse.

Started taking Yasmin 6 weeks ago and have felt really flat and anxious and even had a panic attack yesterday. I have felt really bloated and uncomfortable and haven't wanted my husband near me. I have been on anti-depressants for Post natal depression for 6 mths and had the symptoms under control before taking this pill. I was really unsure whether Yasmin was causing these symptoms until I found this forum and read the experiences of other women. Saw my GP today and he recommended I stop taking it immeadiately, as it can cause depressive symptoms in some people.
This forum is a real help as it is nice to know that I am not alone in suffering side effects from Yasmin, and without it I may have continued taking the pill for several months in the hope things would improve.

I was put on yasmin by my doctor to help decrease a ovarian cyst... I love this medication. I feel great, losing weight easily, depression much better. I am sorry for the ones who are having problems... there are always going to be people that dont react the right way to any drug. I have been there myself. I am usually allergic to every thing. I suggest... try yasmin...if it doesnt work for you try something else. Good luck

I was prescribed Yasmin. I've only been taking Yasmin for 3 days and from 12 hours after taking Yasmin I felt like vomiting every waking moment, lost my appetite, was confused, had a splitting headache and felt very disorientated. On the third day I decided to stop taking Yasmin. Within 12 hours of stopping, I feel much better, although I have never been so thirsty in my life despite drinking over a liter of water today.

Trust me, I am not going to give Yasmin another go. Thank you for posting your experiences so that I can avoid enduring further side effects.

Hi Guest 38149-

Several women have experienced trouble with insomnia. Something that has been found to be helpful is the herb: schizandra. I posted some information on this on the UK forum website (its link posted here as well as in the forum sections under supplements.) It helps with a number of things in addition to insomnia. See Lilah Kay's more recent experiences.

I hope that's helpful.

I want to thank all of you for posting your experiences with Yasmin/Yaz!! I am going to the Dr. for my annual female physical and was going to request with Yaz or Loestrin 24 to help with my perimenopausal symptoms. There is no way in HE** that I will take Yaz after what I've read here.

I am wondering if those of you who have low magnesium levels are having trouble with insomnia?

Dear Susanella,

Thank you for sharing this post. Please post your daughter's experiences as well on the Forum here as well as on askapatient.com. It will be helpful for other women and their daughters, cousins, nieces and aunties.

If you haven't already done so, also report side effects online to www.fda.gov and call Berlex to report at well 1-888-237-5394. One of their representatives will take all the information.

Yasmin's diuretic is a potassium sparing diuretic. That's the difference. What that means is that while it flushes out fluids, it spares potassium-thus the risk of high potassium-and hyperkalemia a potentially fatal state!

To your question on research, as electrolytes get out of balance, so does muscle control. IE the number of women here who have suffered muscle twitchs from toe/feet to heart. In particular when the balance of magnesium and calcium is off-set, one experiences murmurs and muscle flacidity!

So have your magnesium, potassium and calcium levels checked pronto!

I have just read a few pages of this and am scared. I went to a new dr and was prescribed Yasmin even though I was totally happy on my other pill. The dr said Yasmin was safer and had fewer side effects but now I am worried. I feel so bad for you all and thank you for sharing your experiences to warn others. Does anyone know if these effectes happen majority of the time or only in extreme cases??

I just spent a fortune on three months of pills.... should I bin them and go back to Diane?

i'm so glad i found this site. i started taking bc pills again in feb 04. in feb 05, i switched to yasmin because i heard so many good things about it and the other pills were making me sick. when i'm finished with this pack, i'm not refilling it. here's my experience with yasmin: the good: my period is regular, no breakouts, period is lighter and shorter, no worries about getting pregnant. the bad: still get cramps, boobs hurt all the time and am spilling out of my bra, facial discolorations, feel bloated all the time. the ugly: horrific migraines (never had them before), anxiety and depression and i'm a happy person. i'm doing a detox cleanse to get myself back to normal when i'm off. for now, i'll take my chances with condoms and natural methods. nothing is worth what i've been going through. thank you all for sharing your experiences because i thought i was just going crazy.

Hi Guest 31031!!

Well, out of my experiences with getting off Yasmin, everything looks "pretty normal" (as far as you can say so though....) what's going on with your daughter!!

I've been off Yasmin for about 1,5 years now and still struggling with those problems around ovulation and the time, where my period should start (didn't get it regularly ever since stopping Yasmin!!!).

And another thing: 4 weeks off Yasmin isn't really much, I fear! How long had your daughter been taking Yasmin?

I had been on it for about 5 very long YEARS... And therefor I think I'm having harder times to get back to normal than someone whou only took it for about 1 year or even shorter...

But give it more time, please! At the time of 4 weeks I still felt totally ill and down. And after that time I had those problems every few weeks again, and always around ovulation and starts of my period!

The only thing that you could do is stand by the side of your daughter, keep her going with always telling her, that it WILL get better again after a few days or weeks. And this is one thing I CAN REALLY PROMISE!! It WILL get better again!!

That's what everyone around me (my husband and my parents) always kept telling me, when I was again at that point, where I thought I couldn't go on any longer. And it was the only thing that helped me not to loose hope!! And they were so right!! The nightmare always stopped again after a few days or weeks and I felt myself getting better again!!

Hormonal problems are nothing which can be solved within a few weeks. And the Yasmin-poison takes much longer to get out of your system than only a few weeks. And only when it is completely OUT the hormonal system can start to rebalance without that artificial hormones.

I can imagine how hard it is to see your daughter in such a bad constitution. It was the same with my parents and husband. They were all so worried but a very important thing is: Don't let her know, how worried you are!! Always try to stay strong and sure in telling her, better times are ahead!!

I wish you all the best and god's bless and I swear, you'll get through this with your daughter. And please tell her, that she's not alone, we're all feeling with her!!

Silke

Julie,

I think that's pretty common. I had my period the week of Sept 11 - 16, decided NOT to get back on Yasmin - and I've been wrapped up in anxiety hell ever since. Last night I started bleeding again, and it is HEAVY. (It's only been a week since the LAST period!!) So I'm at a loss! I just know from reading stuff on this board that it's common...

I would love it if anyone who switched to a NEW PILL after taking Yasmin would write about their experiences with the new pills. There are a lot of women wondering what to try next!

eryka-

I know what you are talking about with the thoughts. Here is waht I am experiencing maybe it is the same:

I like get scared that I am going to lose control of myself and do something awful like hurt someone I love. I get scared of being around objects that are violent...like knives and scissors. Is this the same with you?

If it is I have no clue if it is from the pill or just anxiety in general. I look at it as their might be something in your life you feel you cant control or something. Yourself is the one thing you can control and it is frightening to think that you could just lose control. This also explains the feelings of going crazy. (I've written a paper on this and have done a lot of research because of my own experiences haha). Anyways, most the time it really does stem from a control issue. You're scared of losing control of your actions or your mental state. And yes, many times these thoughts lead to panic attacks. Just think to yourself that you are in control and nothing is happening to you. You control your actions. And if you were really "going crazy", chances are you wouldnt even be sane enough to come to that conclusion haha.

hope this helps!

hi brittkat,
glad my experiences with yasmin have been able to help you,i was also told that i was suffering from anxiety/panic disorder by my doctor,he prescribed me diazepam,i took them for a while and they made me sooo much worse. then he tried to put me on anti-depressants which i refused.i was sure all along that i did not have an anxiety disorder as i have always managed to cope with life quite well up until 6 months after taking yasmin.i took it for 1.5 years, the first 6 months were fine but the year after that was pure hell,i didn't want to live any more i felt that bad and anxious and depressed,i was scared all the time and had the most terrifying thoughts not to mention constant panic attacks. now i am off yasmin my life is pretty much back to normal except for the memories of my year of pure hell. i lost all faith in my doctor as he never listened when i suggested yasmin could be the problem. i now have a female doctor who is much more sympathetic. i live in the uk so have no experience with gynacologists as seems to be who would deal with these problems in the US but judging by some of the posts they are just as bad a GP's. hang in there brittkat,it will get better! my thoughts are with you!

I am sure that several women have had positve experiences with Yasmin however, mine has been the polar opposite. I only started taking it five days ago however I have experienced severe nausea, and vomiting. I feel shakey and dizzy and I have turned into a very moody and angry person. I feel confused and tearful throughout the morning and have not slept a full night since I began taking it whcih makes me a zombie at work. I have experienced bloating and extreme back pain as if I am going through PMS. I will stop taking Yasmin today.

Attention ladies...especially Silke: (re: response to femalepara's post)

This board is for posting individual experiences while using Yasmin. Amongst the hundreds of posts stating negative effects...you throw a fit because someone has a good experience. Even if it has only been "2 weeks" that is her experience. I think most people that are reading are not going to take one person's opinion and run with it...there are plenty of negative effects information on this board to make one seriously consider taking this medication. You're post seemed very harsh and uncalled for...as if you are the ruler of this board. Chill out and let people share....it doesn't discount other peoples experience, clearly many women have suffered greatly on this medication.

Can anyone share their experiences after coming off Yasmin? I seem to feel good for the first 2 weeks and then once I start to ovulate, all the anxiety and nervousness and sadness comes back. Will my normal pms symptoms ever return? Before Yasmin I had virtually no pms at all...I should have left well enough alone but who knew! I'm using klonopin to help me through these times and I was down to the lowest dose I have been on last week, and as soon as pms set in, I've had to up it again. Any thoughts?

Thanks to everyone who has posted their experiences with Yasmin!

I am now on my 4th Yasmin free day. So far, I've not had any withdrawal issues aside from a bad migraine yesterday (but I've typically had Migraines during my sugar pill week anyway, so this wasn't surprising.)

I was on Yasmin for almost a year. The side effects creeped up on me slowly. They included:

~ Irrational thoughts (sometimes)
~ Depression and crying
~ Migraines (2 or more a month)
~ Social withdrawal (used to be much more social, but on Yasmin, I didn't want to be around my friends for very long)
~ Fatigue (I sometimes have to close my office door and lay on the floor to rest)
~ Bloating, IBS-like symptoms and pain on the left side of my belly (This is the symptom that made me start researching Yasmin.)

I'm convinced that the Yasmin caused all these problems. I'd much rather try treating my PCOS with diet and exercise.

I will try to post again in a week or so to update progress. (I just want to give others some hope, you know?)

Best of luck to all!

Wow! I have been on Yasmin for 2 weeks because my GYN told me I would like it better than Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. What a mistake! I have been so tired, falling asleep when I sit on the couch. I have also had no sex drive and have been really dry down below during sex (not to get too personal). Has anyone had that side effect? I am defintely getting off this pill it seems you all have had terrible experiences, I wish I read this before my GYN talked me into it.

I am just in tears reading these experiences. I took Yasmin for three months and my body just crashed. I've been off for one month and spend most of my days lying on my couch. I can't work anymore (as a massage therapist) and I have two children to take care of.
Not being sure all my symptoms were from Yasmin, I was sent to a rhuematologist who diagnosed my with spondylitis, arthritis in my spine. I believe I do have arthritis, but I think that because my body is out of balance, I got a severe flare up. I'm in pain from the moment I lift my head in the morning, usually starts with a headache, until the moment I drop into bed at night. I am so weak by the end of the day that I can hardly hold myself over the sink to wash my face. And remember, I'm not doing anything all day long.
This has been so upsetting. I cry every day wondering if I'm ever going to get better or worse?
I've seen a natural doctor as well and have researched on my own. I'm taking some supplements and may be adding Pregnenalone and Vita-C to help as well. I'm feel releived to have found this site. It has been validating.
I'll be checking in and hopefully, we can all help each other by sharing our experiences.

Hello, everyone. I am new to Yasmin and have only been taking it for 2 weeks. I am coming off of a 4 year break from BCP's and decided to try Yasmin on my OB's recommendation due to excessive moodiness/irritability with other BCP's that I've tried. In the past, I didn't have any other side effects from any of the other pills that I've tried (such as spotting, break through bleeding, bloating, etc.) In the 2 short weeks that I've been taking Yasmin I have had enough weird side effects to prompt me to go online and do some research, which led me to this site. I have had (sorry for the TMI) brown discharge for 12 straight days and today I have blood spotting. I also noticed that I have been extremely fatigued for the last week. Tonight I feel a dull pain in my left side and am bloated and feel "full", as if I've eaten a huge amount of food. I'm not even going to finish this pack. Thank you to everyone for your experiences.

Hi, Twogirlsmom, Lisa, Silke, Chrissy and everyone out there it's Hill.
I am on day 34 post Yasmin. If you read some of my earlier posts, I too got a cold, felt horrible and got some of my symptoms back during the cold. I also had/have the bloating/swelling. I should get my period very soon. If I was still on Yasmin I should have gotten my period last thursday, however, when I stopped my pills, even though I had just menstrated, I got my period again about 4 days after stopping for a few days so it should be here soon.

As for the swelling, yesterday my ankles were the size of my thighs, as well as my hands. My fingers were huge, none of my rings fit. And while I was on Yasmin, my face was rather enlarged, around my cheeks. Right now everything is bloated. I am assuming it is due to almost that time of the month and first real cycle off pills.

Driving to work I almost had an anxiety attack, but I some how controled it. So what I'm assuming is it's just because my little ole friend is due, and he doesn't know how to act with out that horrible drug or something.

So keep sharing your experiences I know they helped me so much,
Hill

Hi Everyone,
Today is the second week I've been off that Yasmin hell. I am feeling a little less anxious, however, it is still with me. Has anyone had the tingling in their arms, legs and face post yasmin. I had it on Yasmin really bad with my arm and leg, but the face tingling started after going off yasmin.
I got my blood panel and chest xrays back and the doctor says I'm normal.
It's amazing that these doctors won't admit any correlation to our problems and Yasmin. My OBGYN said it's the best pill out theire, therefore, it can't be related. Quite ridiculous.
I am feeling better every day, but there are days where I take a step back. I have found that vitamin waters help make me less dizzy. Not sure if anyone else has tried this. And I reduced the one aspirin a day to a half, just in case there is still a possibility of my blood clotting post yasmin.
If anyone else is experiencing any of this Post yasmin, I'd love to hear about your experiences. I think they really help everyone.
