I started taking Yasmin 3 months ago due to a friend's recommendation to stop by other birth control (mercilon) and start Yasmin. The first to months were fine, but the last few weeks have been filled with EXTREME nausea. After days of filling the need to vomit, I actually considered the fact that I could be pregnant even though pretty impossible. Two weeks ago, I was telling a friend about my extreme nausea and her response, 'it's Yasmin.' Turns out she had exactly the same problems. I told another friend about my 'horrific BC experience' and she asked which pill so when I told her Yaz she responded she also had major problems. I've never heard of so many people with problems! Although I do have one friend who is on it and has no problems with Yasmin.
It's been two weeks since I've figured out my physical problems are related to Yasmin (oh, is anyone else experiencing diarrhea?). Unfortunately I've had to finish the pack and I'm so happy that I finally have.....sadly, I'm at home sick from work because of this stupid pill. I've been so nauseous today (the day I'm starting my period) that I couldn't go to work so I've been in bed sleeping for 5 of the last 24 hours trying to sleep off the feeling. I'm hoping and praying that tomorrow I'll be okay again and I won't ever fill this away again.
Thank you you listening.

I'm still trying to find out if my symptoms are associated with Yasmin, but I STRONGLY believe they are. I can't believe I didn't pu the pieces together sooner. I've been on Yasmin close to 4 years... it was pretty new when I started taking it for my PCOS. For the last two years (yes, two years!) I've been experiencing extreme nausea and upset stomach and my resistance to illness/allergies has been non-existent. I've noticed that I feel depressed and lack a lot of energy. My sex drive wanes... sometimes it's nill and other times I can't get enough. I've had endoscopies, colonoscopies, blood work, etc... but nothing ever came back conclusive on anything particular. After my last cycle, it took me about a week to get my new pack and guess what? I felt somewhat normal! My sex drive came back and my gastrointestinal issues subsided. I'm going to stop taking it completely and see if it solves my "mystery illnesses".

I just started taking Yasmin on Sunday, since then I have had extreme nausea, bouts of sadness and anger, and a dull headache. Last night I had such a horrible migraine my vision was blurred. I woke up this morning feeling the same way and I had no energy. Can these side effects happen this soon after starting Yasmin?

I was a size two before Yaz, my appetite increased and I went to a size 12. I had no idea what was going on, I was always hungry and irritable. If my boyfriend left for work I would cry or if I didn't get my way I would throw temper tantrums. I would feel extreme nausea and migraines. I totally disregarded this, because it did make my period lighter. When I am not on birth control I have severe cramps and nausea. It is just something you have to ask yourself. cramps for a week, or extreme weight gain with the risk of heart disease and such. I took it for 5mos. and then I quit. my breast size went down 3 cup sizes and my weight is going back to normal without any physical activity. I feel happier, I have more energy, and I am not as hungry anymore.

My story is long....I have been taking Yasmin for almost 2.5 years, since having my son. About 8 months after starting the pill we relocated to another state. About 6 months after that I began having shortness of breath and anxiety. I thought it was due to our relo, which was all positive but still those things can be stressful. My doctor thought it was anxiety and prescribed Zanax. I rarely took them...seemed like the anxiety subsided. A few months later I was back at my doctors office with extreme nausea and this crazy burning sensation down my arms and on my chest. I was diagnosed with H Pylori and treated for that and then had an endoscopy and found I had mild chronic gastritis. I was on Prevacid and then finally prescription Zantac for that. I went a few months and then the shortness of breath returned and I began having heart palpations. I then went back to my doctor. My heart rate was elevated so she sent me over to a cardiologist. He said my heart was fine. I then came down with a stomach virus, which is what I thought at the time, and ended up not taking my pill for 2 days and then began menstruating. I stayed off of it for a month and continued to have this terrible burning sensation on my skin. I started a new pill pack the next month and that's when the real hell began. I woke up around 1:30am with severe nausea and heart palpations. My husband took me to the ER - they said it was due to my stomach. I went back to see my GI doc she said that my stomach didn't cause that. I went to see my doctor b/c my GI doc thought it might be my BC pill because it just started happening after taking it again after being off of it for a month. I was sure it was the BC so I immediately stopped taking it. I had yet another period. Since stopping it, now it's been 14 days, I have had one anxiety attack after another, chest pains, shortness of breath, the burning skin, headaches, and major nausea. I can't eat or sleep. I can barely function. All my blood work, adrenal gland and thyroid tests are perfectly normal. No signs of anything wrong with me. I went to see my doctor today for a follow-up, she told me bluntly that I was mental! It was all in my head ! The pill could not cause this and I need to see a physiotherapist. I have never felt so bad physically in my life and then been kicked in the teeth so hard all in one day. I know all this is due to this drug. There is no other explanation. I am not crazy but I have a lot of people who believe I am. I am amazed at how the medical community is so uneducated and have become drug pushers and have forgotten problem solving. Thank you all for reading my story. I pray every minute that I will get through this and be normal again. All I want to do is enjoy the Christmas holidays with my family without being sick. That my friends is my Christmas wish. Best to all of you.

I have been taking Yasmin for about two weeks now. I have taken other BCPs before with no bad effects. The last week I have been extremely depressed with suicidal thoughts and EXTREME nausea and vomiting, migraine, and very irritable mood. I thought it was another medicine I was taking but I quit that medicine and am still having bad side effects. The other medicine has only a 6 hour half life, so I am starting to wonder if the Yasmin could be causing this. I wonder if anyone else has experienced the nausea and vomiting.

Aimee,
Call your doc and get off of Yasmin now. I ignored my extreme nausea for months and ended up with some very serious side effects (see prior posts) from taking Yasmin for a total of 12 months (on for 8 off for 1 then on for about 4). Read some of the other people's posts here as well.
If you are feeling this way now, it may get alot worse.
Good luck!

Hi everyone,
I can't tell you all how relieved I feel after my husband and I came across this board tonight. I started yasmin in Nov. and at the end of December I started getting migraines and extreme nausea every other day. I felt like I was going to die. I couldn't take it anymore and quit the pill on Jan. 6th to see if that was what was causing my pain. So, I've been off yasmin for three weeks and still feel just as bad. I can't do my job at work, I just want to lay down all the time. I have headaches, nausea, fatigue, am light-headed most of the time. My heart pounds so hard sometimes and my body often tingles. This whole time I've been so terrified thinking that I have a blod clot or something else horrible. But it sounds like I'm not the only one with these symptoms caused by yasmin. It makes me so angry, I've lost the last month of my life to these problems and I fear the future. I actually have an appt with a headache clinic on Tuesday, I'm going to keep it to see if the doc has any helpful suggestions.
THANK YOU all for posting, it does make me feel so much better to know I'm not the only one.

I have only been taking yasmin for about a week now and I have had extreme nausea. The second day I even threw up. I have been sick and not really eating much for the past week either. Not eating at all makes me feel worse, but when I start eating I can't eat hardly anything. I havent noticed an increase in depression, I guess maybe because I am already on prozac. I also havent had a problem with insomnia either YET! I guess I could, I was put on this medicine to regulate my period and decrease cramps. I don't really need it as a birth control so if it keeps doing weird things to my body, Ill probably stop taking it and try a different one.

Thank God I found this web site! I have only been taking Yasmin for 3 weeks and literally thought I was coming down with some severe illness. My GYN prescribed it to me for treatment of ovarian cysts. I've always had negative side effects on birth control pills in the past and at first I refused to take them, but the doctor kept saying how mild Yasmin was and that I wouldn't have any side effects. Against my better judgement I took it. Here are a list of my adverse reactions:

Extreme nausea and indigestion
fatigue, worse then I've ever felt
bloating
heart palpitations and chest pain
shortness of breath
irritability

With all the nausea and bloating my regular doctor figured I was having gall stones and sent me for a nuclear scan of my biliary tract, it came back perfectly fine. I found this site, trying to figure out if my symptoms were from this pill and as soon as I saw they were I quit. I am already feeling better and my palpitations are starting to lessen. I am so glad I found out before I had a bunch of uneeded tests. I lso called the maker of Yasmin and reported the adverse reactions, they are required by law to report the symptoms to the FDA!

Dizziness, extreme nausea, and disugsting clotted dark red bleeding mid-cycle. General desire to die. Severe depression. VERY heavy periods. Oh, and it's an appetite suppressant which is not a smart thing to give someone recovering from an ed.

Time for me to rethink my contraception!

I can't post side effects from this pill because I have not yet begun taking it. I can however thank all of you that have posted and listed your side effects.

I have a hyperthyroid and am very sensitive to medications. I was diagnosed a year ago with uterine fibroids and was put on the pill to try and treat the symptoms of the fibroids. At first I was fine, PMS improved, cramps were managable but after going on and off this one pill when I chose to stay on it I began having bad thyroid test results, extreme fatique, headaches, severe breast tenderness, etc. They changed me to Ovcon 35 and I started suffering from extreme nausea, can't sleep, shaky hands, extreme nervousness. Today I called my doctors nurse practitioner, she didn't want me to change pills, I insisted. When I went into the office my gyno was sitting at the front desk, his attitude was "Well, what can you deal with better, severe breast tenderness or nausea." I decided that before I would take Yasmin I would research it. Thank you to all you wonderful ladies that have shared your symptoms. Unlike the person that calls for people to have an open mind, after seeing only a few positive post out of the many negative ones, I have decided to throw the pills in the trash.
Thanks again.

yes I too have had horrible side effects...
I first took Yasmine about 8 months ago to control endometrios, I began to feel arm and leg cramps at night immediately, began staining and had alot of indigestion- I went off the pill thinking that I'd start again at a later time, well I have been taking Yasmine once again now for 2 weeks-feel very tired, can barely open my eyes, extreme nausea, vagina dryness, but far worse I feel deppressed and very anxious-to top that off I get re-occuring tingling and a numb-type of feeling in my arms which sometimes radiates to my legs buttocks and belly- This past week I have looked into making an appointment with a neurologist, a psyciotrist, and running complete blood work to figure out why a previously healthy, level headed woman of 36 would suddenly feel so ill...
Thank you for posting all your symptoms, no more pill for me after tonight, I really anticipate a comeback and will let you know how I feel in a week

I haven't even finished my first week of Yasmin. I have extreme nausea. It is crippling. I can't cook dinner without wanting to vomit. I am stopping the pill. Good Luck to those who continue.
