I just posted a side effect on the Yaz page. I know all birth control pills are different for everyone but for the most part I had a lot of success on Yasmin. I was on Ortho Tricyclin for about 2 years in my early 20's and started having severe abdominal pain and severe bloating (all over my body). After several tests (blood work, CT scan, ultrasound, etc.) came back normal, I asked my ob/gyn to switch me to another type of birth control b/c I really didn't feel like myself and when your Mom says "You look like a zombie" then you know something is wrong. He gave me a prescription for Yasmin and I had immediate abdominal/bloating relief and felt normal again. I took Yasmin for 6 years and my only complaint is that I got PMDD the last 6 months I took it. I wasn't sure if it had something to do w/ turning 30 or just being on Yasmin for that long or a combination. I saw a commercial for Yaz and asked my ob/gyn if I could try it. The PMDD went away after the second month on Yaz but next week I'm going to try Yasmin again due to side effects I developed on Yaz (no energy, tired all the time, not feeling alert, feeling depressed). I'm crossing my fingers that Yasmin help me feel normal again and not bring back the PMDD.

Just to give an update, ive been off Yasmin now for a month, and am starting to feel normal again, I am not as paranoid and jumpy. I used to feel like my blood was boiling at the smallest things! I was on Yasmin for about 4 years, came off it for a few months and then went back on it, it was only when I went back on it after the few months that I knew something wasn't right and came back off it again!

I have just had my first real period so am relieved it didn't take a few months, like some of the other women on this site. One of the things I noticed the last time I came off Yasmin is that my skin became bad, but I have been forcing myself to drink plenty of water the last month so fingers crossed the spots stay at bay. I have also started to take vitamins.

I have a lot more energy lately too, but am just glad that I am not half as paranoid and jumpy as I was, I think my poor BF is glad too, although I don’t want to speak to soon as I am highly strung as it is :-)

I have been taking Yasmin for a year now and have gained 10lbs. The worst side effect for me is my stomach has doubled in size and feels so bloated all the time. My face has also bloated. I suffer headaches and feel depressed all the time about the way I look when a year before I felt great before starting this pill. I meet my new boyfriend when I had just started this pill and I feel so embarrassed as my sex drive vanished completely. Sometimes I have hurt him after sex because I am so dry down there. I am angry all the time over silly things and I am horrible to my poor boyfriend. I could never understand what was wrong with me. I also suffer heart heart plantations and it wakes me up from my sleep, its really frightening. After reading all these comments I stopped taking my pill two days ago 16th September, fingers crossed I can lose some of this water retention

I took Yasmin for about two years, and never felt great on it. The first year, I was about 45 pounds heavier than the second, and the second, I started developing terrible side effects (depression, weepiness, paranoia, mood swings, general lethargy, extreme fatigue). I had the worst abdominal bloating (remember, all diuretics have a rebound effect) and most annoying, my nails started shredding and about 1/4 of my (lucky it was thick to begin with) hair fell out! Turns out Yasmin can affect the follicular cycle. THEN, my doctor pushed Yaz on me, though I expressly did not want to take it knowing it was simply a lower dose of Yasmin. She made me stick with it for four long, horrible months--it ruined my life!! It make me cry at the drop of a hat, practically suicidal, extremely moody, gave me TERRIBLE PMS like I hadn't had since I was 17 (I'm 33) and nausea, dizziness, and a spaced-out feeling. I became paranoid about all my friends, and have been jumping on my dear boyfriend for everything and overreacting to the slightest thing. From other stuff I have read, Yaz only works for people with terrible PMS already, or who have acne--I had neither. Whatever chemical is in this pill should be taken off the market--I am furious I was subjected to this, and horrified and so sorry to hear of the losses of loved ones above. Yas is terrible! I just finally switched to Loestrin, and am crossing my fingers. Yaz also gave me terrible bloating, gas and digestive problems.

I posted here on July 15, and would like to update.
(I had been on Yasmin for 3 years and got off it at the end of June, then experienced severe migraine and fatigue as well as weight gain of 6lb in a few days)

On July 16 I had a little bleeding, and migraine stopped. Then, within a few days, my skin and hair became very oily. A few pimples appeared on my face. I hadn't had a pimple for 6-7 years and my skin had been dry. I keep losing and gaining a few pounds in a day, and my fingers and face swell especially when I get up in the morning. I had migraine and felt extremely tired on August 12 - 15. On August 16, I got my 'period' that felt fake - even lighter than when I was on Yasmin. It started very slowly, and very light flow continued for about 5-6 days. No cramp.

I don't feel normal yet. I get water retention, and my skin is still very oily. I got a pimple on my neck and some on face. My skin feels very irritated and feels like there're tiny pimples all over my face. I feel overly worried about things that are beyond my control.
Good news is my sex drive recovered and I haven't had yeast or BV.

I hope we feel better (normal) soon. I will update again. Thank you for reading.

I've been taking Yasmin for 2 1/2 months now, and since I've started taking it, I wake up with incredible amounts of hair on my pillow, and whenever I run my fingers through my hair, I'll have 5-10 strands in my hand. On top of that (which is the worst side effect), I've been extremely depressed, I have NO energy, in the short time that I have been taking it I have gained close to 10 pounds when previously I was losing weigh very steadily, I have been experiencing what feels like growing pains in my legs, and patches of dry skin on my arms. The only nice thing about this pill for me is the completely cramp-free periods and my face clearing up, which are nice, but don't make this pill worth it for me.

Hi, reading all of this is so freaking me out!!! IV been on YASMIN for about a month now and was meant to get my 1st period on it yesterday, but it never arrived!! Also last week Monday I came to know of BREAK THROUGH BLEEDING!! It was the worst WEEK of my life, I thought I was going to die, I have never bled so much, EVER, It made my whole body lame, every one who saw me thought I was seriously sick. The cramps are back pain didn’t help either, it last for about 4- 5 days and then just suddenly stopped. So I can’t say I am eagerly awaiting my period this week, if it comes… I don’t know what’s up with that.
My face hasn’t really improved much I have had 2 huge mountains that left like it was under my skin, extremely painful! But other than that, I believe everything is ok. My sex drive has sky rocketing, in fact it’s almost embarrassing, ha ha ha ha. My moods have also really changed, but unlike a lot of you, mine has improved and so has my weight, I feel and look so slim!! I think I’m happy. BUT very scared after reading all of this now… keeping my fingers X

Hi, I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. I have ALWAYS been a very confident and outgoing person. For the past year i have had panic attacks regularly. I am very hot at night, I have trouble sleeping, yet my period pains are at a minimun and I have few symptons of PMT. (Mind you it is still bad enough to take codeine and paracetamol on the first day of bleeding).

Other side effects that I thought would clear up but which haven't are:- dark patches on my forehead and above my lip (doc said they would go, but seem to 'come' and go) and a very sore throat accompanied by swollen glands, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left side of my neck. My fingers are tingly and my joints are swollen. The Chest pains could be related to anxiety. I get a migraine 24-72 hours before I bleed, regular as clockwork now.

The worst is the mood swings and the depression, I just really don't recognise myself, tired and teezy all the time.

I was very happy for the first 3-6 months that I took Yasmin, but after that I have known I haven't been 'right', but my anxiety and depression have made me unable to make a decision or be focused why.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed on the site, it's great to know I'm not the only one.

Where do I begin??? I have been taking Yaz for six months. Migraines! The worst migraines ever, I cannot function for one full day and sometimes more, the pain was so intolerable.

Hives! For the past two months, I keep thinking that I had a food allergy; even my doctor diagnosed it as that. After going to the allergist, I was told that I have developed an allergy to the Yasmin pill. No part of my body has been discriminated with this medication. Hives from the top of my head, in my eyes, right down to the bottom of my feet! This has been the worst experience of my life with this pill.

Fatigue to the extreme! I fall asleep sitting up and never feel rested. Yaz has caused me to go up two cup sizes so far, I went from being a 38C to a 40DD and I can't fit into anything. My boobs are sore a lot.

Weight gain, at least 20 pounds heavier. Nausea; Indigestion; Diarrhea & Constipation; Decreased Sex Drive; and Mood swings; Uncontrollable Rages; Severe body aches; Hot Flashes/Chills; Crying Spells; Blurred Vision; Lack of Concentration; Trouble sleeping; Dizziness; Shaking; Restlessness mainly after 9pm when I should be winding down to go to bed; Terrible night sweats; Never ending cravings for junk food; Inability to cope with stressful situations; Feeling of being inadequate; Can’t concentrate; Gassy; Hate family & partners; Irrational.

Hello everyone,

it is great to find this side and to see I´m not alone with these problems.
I also had all these symptoms (depression, anxiety, headache, qualm, dizzy etc.) while taking yasmin (for five years), but I always thought I`m making them up by myself.
Now I´m off yasmin since nearly five weaks and in the beginning I felt good, but since my period and even some days before and even now (my period started 8 days ago) I feel really bad. I feel very very tired, I can`t really move my hands, fingers, legs etc. I have the feeling I´m carrying hundred of stones in me. And I feel often nausa. I have a headache. Can somebody tell me if this is normal, because I´m not taking the pill since five weeks and how long do I have to deal with these problems. I feel like half a person.:-(

Thanks!!!

Maggy

The face and hand tingling caught my eye. I was taken off Yasmin last week after being hospitalized with decreased bloodflow to my hand - the reason was vasospasm in my hand with a possible clot, and my fingers were turning cold and blue! Turns out bcp's can cause vasoconstriction and blood clots. (fyi - I'm 32, healthy and have never smoked) All three specialists I saw felt the bcp was the main culprit. Off 1 week and my hand is getting better with, you guessed it, another medication. After reading about the side effects I realized my headaches, muscle soreness, face and arm tingling, and bouts of depression could all be due to Yasmin. It really explains so much of my vague health problems I have battled for so long. I'm a mess right now, but am hopeful I'll come out better than ever! If anyone has tips on getting through the "withdrawal" from Yasmin, please share!

I just got put on Yasmin last Wednesday and I'm already feeling the side effects of it. The worst though is this like mental fogginess that I'm experiencing. It started yesterday and it was then that I decided I wasn't going to take this pill any longer. It was kind of like I wasn't in my own body or I felt like I was forgetting everything even though I could remember mundane things like my favorite poem or my favorite passage from a book. I feel it most when I'm typing and it's like I can't connect my brain to my fingers and I keep making spelling errors and stuff. It's just nice to know that other people have experienced the same thing, this cloudiness.

I was on another BCP a couple of years ago, Levlen 28, and I never had anything like this, the worst symptom I had was a little bloating. The side effects might have something to do with the fact that I just finished up two cycles of Provera and that's not completely out of my system yet and now I'm putting in more hormones into my system, but four days of this pill was enough for me. I'm hoping that it doesn't take long for it to flush out of my system since I only took it for a few days. I'm a writer, so typing and thinking are what I do on a regular basis and it would be the worst feeling ever if this fogginess in my brain didn't dissipate soon.

Hello Ladies,
It has been exactly 6 weeks since I've been off Yasmin. I was feeling about 80% better however, this weekend I started having shortness of breath again as well as slight leg pain in my calf. I just finished up my period, first real cycle since stopping pill. I am also extremely swollen. This has been on and off since I stopped, but when I wake up in the morning, I can hardly make a fist my hands hurt so much. My fingers look like sausages. They are almost the size of my boyfriends hands. My face is a bit puffy too. I know some of you have had the swelling, but is it normal to have it after already being off of yasmin for 6 weeks. I know it's going to take some time, but I really thought I was doing better there for a while. I am a bit foggy abd dizzy again too. I guess it could be related to menstrating, although I kinda expected this to come before I menstrated not after. just wondering if any of you have had this.
Thanks, Hill

Hi, Twogirlsmom, Lisa, Silke, Chrissy and everyone out there it's Hill.
I am on day 34 post Yasmin. If you read some of my earlier posts, I too got a cold, felt horrible and got some of my symptoms back during the cold. I also had/have the bloating/swelling. I should get my period very soon. If I was still on Yasmin I should have gotten my period last thursday, however, when I stopped my pills, even though I had just menstrated, I got my period again about 4 days after stopping for a few days so it should be here soon.

As for the swelling, yesterday my ankles were the size of my thighs, as well as my hands. My fingers were huge, none of my rings fit. And while I was on Yasmin, my face was rather enlarged, around my cheeks. Right now everything is bloated. I am assuming it is due to almost that time of the month and first real cycle off pills.

Driving to work I almost had an anxiety attack, but I some how controled it. So what I'm assuming is it's just because my little ole friend is due, and he doesn't know how to act with out that horrible drug or something.

So keep sharing your experiences I know they helped me so much,
Hill

Hi guys,
I'm 23 and I have severe joint pain that I have had for 5 weeks now. I believe it's from the Yasmin reguardless of what my obgyn says. The pain started in my knees, elbows, fingers, hip area etc.. Most of the pain went away but I'm still experiencing pain in my knees and hip area. Has anyone else had this side effect from Yasmin. It's wierd how I've been off Yasmin for about 3 1/2 weeks now and I still am having this pain.

Okay, After reading this maybe I am not all that crazy. I really like Yasmin, has done great with my face and slowly my periods, but I do experience the extreme moodiness. I feel as though everyone is out to get me and I snap back. Not sure if I am going to discontinue use, but I am going to talk to my OBGYN. I have not experienced any heart pains or hair loss (lets cross our fingers).

I have been on Yasmin for 6 mos, and have had 2 yeast infections (never had one before in my life), randomly broken out in hives, and had tingling in my fingers. I am very worried, I am also extremely emotional. Is this abnormal? Would love to see if other women have the same "side effects" as I am experiencing.

I urge anyone who has written on this website or anyone who has side effects from Yasmin to call Berlex Laboratories to report them. Berlex is the distributor in the United States for Yasmin, and their phone number to report a side effect is:
1-888-BERLEX4 (or 1-888-237-5394) Follow the prompt to report your side effect and a live person will speak to you and take your information. It's extremely important that you share your information with the company if for some reason this stuff isn't safe for consumption. I called them and reported breast tenderness, nausea every third week, and arm pain and numbness in the left arm, fingers, leg and foot. The woman told me that no one had ever reported arm or leg pain and numbness before - but I've seen on this board that I'm not the only one who has had this side effect.

I posted in this site back on March 10th I believe originally. I am officially going off of Yasmin starting today. I went through the first 2 months without a hitch. In my third month I started noticing that my left hand and fingers would sometimes become numb while I was driving around in my car. I also noticed that I had a throbbing sensation in my left leg when I would go to bed at night. I went through my 3rd pack, and was just finishing up my white pills when I was scheduled for an elective surgery during that week. I started back up on my 4th pack a couple of days after surgery and by the 3rd pill, I noticed I was having anxiety and experiencing pain in my left arm. I stopped the pills immediately thinking that perhaps I should hold off on taking them due to the surgery. (fear of blood clots). So I waited for my period to arrive to start Yasmin again. I started my new pack last Wednesday and by the 3rd and 4th pill, my arm had massive pains in it, and numbness in my fingers. It's a squeezing type of sensation, like when you get your blood pressure taken with the cuff around your arm. I kept taking the pills to see what would happen and I still would experience the arm pain on occasion, or sometimes weird sensations in my left foot and leg. But the worst part was the panic attacts that started happening. So....after a night of not so restfull sleep and being only 8 pills into my 4th pack - I'm quitting. It's a shame really because this pill was really what I was looking for in a bcp - it helped me lose weight, I didn't feel bloated, and my face remained clear.
