I started taking Yaz about a year and a half ago. I'm no longer continuing this pill after this month's pack is finished. I have to say that at first, it was a really great pill. The first month was hell. I bled for a month straight, and I was so irritable, and emotional, and my bf would talk about silly shit, like beached whales and I would start bawling. I spent four months living overseas after starting the pill so I didn't notice the loss of sex drive and sensitivity at first. But when I came back I started to notice all the little things that were becoming huge issues. My sex drive is more or less gone. I actually fell asleep last night while my boyfriend was trying to get me aroused. That's awful. I always feel tired lately. I get a lot of headaches. I read that this pill increase your potassium, and my mother's told me she has a lot of potassium so when she eats bananas she gets splitting headaches, and I'm the same way, so I'm starting to realize where all these headaches are coming from. Sometimes they are so bad that Advil does nothing at all and I end up having to rub between my thumb and forefinger while trying to fell asleep to make the pain stop. I've become extremely moody. My moods change so often now. I'm irritable. I am coming off of two really tough years of my life, and things are really great for me right now, and I don't feel great. I never want to have sex. Foreplay doesn't feel as good as it used to. I don't get aroused quickly, and I have a lot of trouble climaxing. I smoke weed and was smoking mixed spliffs with my bf for some time not even thinking about it, and the reaction the tobacco had with the pill was horrible. I'm certain that if I didn't stop I would have ended up in the ER. I would experience fainting spells, momentary blindness!!, I'd go really pale after getting very hot. I nearly passed out on at least four occasions before discovering the link. After I stopped, I felt much better. But now I can feel all the emotional side effects. I've also been sleepless for a long time, and I think that has to do with the pill, too. Lately I've been getting very nauseated if I eat shortly after taking the pill. And it doesn't matter what I eat. I'm constantly burping like I have a nervous stomach, but I've been calming my mind lately so there's really no reason for it. I've got a lot going on with life and whatnot, but I'm usually able to handle a lot of pressure and stress without breaking down, and this pill has made me almost incapable to dealing with the slightest bit of stress. It's horrible. And I don't want any part in it, or in the pharmaceutical business. I'm going to try tracking my own ovulation. At least I won't have some crazy hormones messing up my system.
Oh. I also had a fibroadenoma (breast cyst) this summer that I had to have a biopsy on (which was really fun, let me tell you...), and I can't say that the pill caused it, but I've never had cysts in my breasts before... The pill did inflate them an extra cup size, and during the third week of pills they are so tender I can't even let my boyfriend touch them or hug me tightly because they hurt so badly. And I live in NYC and there are a lot of stairs to bounce down and it's painful.
I see all the same symptoms with everyone who takes this pill and has a bad experience, and I've decided that it's not for me. The man can wear a condom for a while, while I try to regain my normal self again.

I was on Yasmin for about 4 years, then stopped due to no health insurance (couldn't afford it anymore). I was off Yasmin for 4 months, started it up again now that I have a new job, and man- I HATE being back on this pill. Now that my body had a break, I can tell what this pill does/did- I've taken about nine pills and have already called my doc to go right back in and get a Paraguard IUD, because now that I know what "normal" feels like there is no way I can go back to this pill! Extremely tired again/feel run down all the time (since day 2 back on), nauseous (continual), dry eyes/vagina (after 2-3 days back on), sex drive ebbing off again (after nine days back on)... also strange when I read people's posts, my knees/hip used to crack (pop) all the time and it's started up again within one week of this damn pill. A big clump of my hair fell out yesterday too!!! I can only tell you how I FEEL- there is something NOT right in my body with Yasmin back in the mix. I felt awesome for four months sans pill (sex drive came back with a vengeance, forgot how it felt to feel aroused, feel lubricated, feel energy, feel happy go lucky) then Yasmin- now this crap has got to go!!! I'm so turned off by this eye-opener (thankful though, at least now I know what I put myself through for four years). I'll go with an IUD to avoid hormones from now on. Trust yourselves ladies, if it doesn't feel right, it might be bad for you! Good luck ladies!!!!

My daughter has been on Yasmin for a year and a half - it was prescribed for irregular periods and spotty skin. She is 15 and has had a year of nausea, leg cramps, hair loss, headaches, elevated heart rate, fatigue , irritation, angry outbursts ,dehydration severe moodiness and depression and lately- uncontrolled crying for no reason. She also sees black dots after exercising. She has gone from a happy girl who loved exercise to a grumpy couch potato! The doctor diagnosed it as a viral infection and suspected glandular fever - she missed a lot of school!
Today she had a day from hell - fought with a teacher and cried for hours. She also takes Ritalin as she is ADD- so I thought it was that - I decided to look up Yasmin and am so glad I did! What a great website! She has just taken a multivitamin and mag.phos - NO MORE YASMIN!!! Any advice on what she can use for her skin? and irregular periods?
A million thanks

I was put on Yasmin for perimenopausal symptoms. I took it for three years. For the first two I had no issues at all. Then I began having intense anxiety/panic issues, dizziness and worsening migraine headaches. My doctor advised me to get off of the pill due to a chance of stroke related to the migraines. Since then the anxiety has greatly improved but I am gaining weight like crazy even though I'm eating less. For the first four months after stopping the pill my migraines were horrible and occurred about half of the month. Now its starting to level off as my own hormones start kicking in. I am having my adrenals tested as my doctor feels there is an issue there but no direct link to Yazmin to this. I know the weight gain is related to me going off the pill. I wouldn't recommend this pill to anyone.

I've been on Yasmin for four months. With all of the side affects from Yasmin it is the only pill that makes me feel somewhat normal. Just to name a couple I've been on Levlen, Tricyclen and they all caused major infections, depression and mood swings. I am only on the pill because I have a cyst on my ovary and the doctors will not operate because it is not big enough to remove but big enough to cause a lot of discomfort. Every month when I start Yasmin the first couple of days I am very moody and then I am okay until the week before my period thats when i am depressed and grouchy. Now I've started losing my hair, not cool. I'm sure it's Yasmin because i am not on any other medications and I take really good care of my hair. I just hoping it will pass.

I'm 29, have been on birth control pills for 10 years, and switched to Yasmin about 2 years ago. I a small varicose vein in my right within 2 months of switching, but didn't think a relationship between my vasculature and the pill existed. I can now trace the entire vein from my right hip to my ankle. In the 2 years since starting Yasmin, my ankles and lower legs swelled heavily...but at very random times. It often began at the start of the 7-day sugar pill regime and finished by the time I started a new pack. I assumed that the estrogen withdrawal going into the sugar pills was too much for my body to handle and that the diuretic effects of Yasmin were obviously absent during that time. I also noticed leg cramping, heart palpitations, and I started waking up in the occasional hot sweat in a drenched bed.
So, after making sure that my heart and kidneys were healthy, my gynecologist prescribed continuous hormone Yasmin and claimed it as the "ultimate solution". For 4 months, I have skipped the sugar pills for each pack and started new packages immediately. I have not had a period since, and the edema has continued (still at random) and has become exponentially worse. In the last few weeks alone, the vein in my right leg has become massive, my legs are so distended by the end of the days on which they swellI that I can't fit into pants which are otherwise loose, I am noticing other large veins "surfacing", little veins are breaking everywhere, and I can now see most of the blood vessels beneath the skin in both legs. My primary care physician told me I have chronic venous insufficiency...a diagnosis I'm not okay with. I'm very worried...the changes and ensuing damage have happened way too quickly to be venous insufficiency. I am going to ween myself off of the pill, but don't know what the next step should be. Endocrinologist? Another OB/GYN? Anyone have ideas or similar experiences to share....

I have been on Yasmin for about four and a half years now. I just stopped taking it because my husband and I want to start having children. I have noticed some horrible side effects. I am SEVERELY bloated, irritated at everything, and even more depressed. I also have headaches all the time. My mind races and I can't control my thoughts. Has anyone else experienced this? I am so glad I found this site. I was really getting down on myself over the past few years because of my depression and anxiety. I even had to go on medication. I have never been like this before so I was so confused as to what was going on. Now I see that it may have been linked to Yasmin. My doctor always asked me how I was doing on it and I never made the correlation between Yasmin and my downward spiral of health. About four months ago I started to get migraines about everyday. I went to the doctor and they did an MRI on my brain. They found lumps in my brain. Not cancer but just lumps. They just come and go. And when they come I can tell because of the debilitating migraines. I wonder if someone else has had this? I don't know if there is a connection but I am not ever going to take Yasmin again in fear of the cause. My doctor said that BC can be linked to migraines. Thank you for making me feel that I am not alone. I should make my husband read the comments on this site so he can see it isn't all my fault that I get moody!!!

Hi there!
I have to say, I am so happy that I have found this website. I feel like I'm crazy!! I have been taking Yasmin for a little over a year or so and within the past two month I have noticed significant stress, anxiety, depression (which I have NEVER experienced in my life). Although, over the past year I have noticed I have been tired, overall low energy, and snappy for no reason. Really high strung. I never knew why.
I do have to ask though, those of you who have stopped taking, or switched from Yasmin...have you noticed a shift in mood for the better? Have you noticed a difference in depression? I am planning to make an appointment for my OB/GYN tomorrow to get off this pill. I just want some hope that things will indeed get better, you know??

i am on my last pack of pills for yasmin. my gyn put me on loestrin starting next month. i hope i have a better experience with that than yasmin. at first i didnt notice any side effects at all. then within the past couple of months (ive been on yasmin for about 6 months) i have noticed so many problems.
i am prone to migraines, but i am getting migraines at least twice a week which has severely effected my work and school life.
i had an ear infection.
ive gained close to 20 lbs (!!!!!) when in the past few months my lifestyle has been healthier and more active than it was when i started this pill. it just doesnt make sense to gain so much when i have improved my lifestyle..
i find i am moody and depressed, if something bad happens, even if its something little, i either get so uncontrollably angry or sad and i cry all the time. im not normally this emotional, ive even cried at work. its so embarrassing.
ive also noticed that after any meal i feel like i am extremely bloated and my stomach starts hurting. it doesnt matter what kind of food, it could be healthy, greasy, veggies, or cereal..no matter what my stomach always hurts to much afterwards.
i am also getting night sweats and horrible back pain, especially when i go to bed.
i am gassy, and my cramps last for my whole period. none of those things ever happened before i was on this pill.
my libido went down, however i think this is due to the weight gain. i have never felt so disgusting in my whole life.
i have gone through many pills, and the nuvaring as well. none of them have had side effects on me as yasmin.
does anyone have any suggestions for other pills for me to try? i am willing to give loestrin a chance, especially because it is a lo dose pill..and i know that everyones bodies are different. i just feel so lost..i hope this new pill works out better.

I was on Yasmin for 3 years, at first I thought it was a perfect fit for me - I had shorter, less painful periods. Over the course of the next 2 years I had CHRONIC Urinary tract infections and yeast infections. I mean like 10 a YEAR. My gyno didn't know what was wrong (I'm meticulous about cranberry juice, cleaning, etc) and prescribed me a antibiotic. I had to take one pill after intercourse. Well, apparently 1 was enough to throw off the balance and I'd end up with a yeast infection.
In addition to all that I TOTALLY lost my sex drive. I've been off the pill now for 4 months and I'm still waiting for it to return.
I wouldn't reccomend this pill to anyone.

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

Hello Yasmin Sufferers out there, I have currently been taking Yasminfor four months exactly, I started my cycle today which means that I would start to take my new pack of pills come this Sunday, except I have most definately decided that I am going to stop. Especially after reading all of these posts and have come to the realization that all of my health problems seem to be Yasmin driven. I will now list the long list of symptoms that I have expierienced over the last four months:
Water retention, dry mouth, dehydration ( also note: drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day), blurred vision, shaking, headaches, backaches, crying at the drop of a dime, moody, irritable, constipation, nightsweats, coldsores, breast tenderness, as well as numbness in legs. I also have naturally thin hair, but have noticed that my hair has become thinner. I have also gained 10pds.
I am 24 years of age and have been taking this pill for four months. When I was younger I took Ortho Tricyclin for years and gained approx: 60pds. I went off of that pill and dropped the weight almost immediately along with changing my nutrition completely. So, it wasn't just the pill. I then stayed off of the pill for years, and was absolutely fine. Last year I tried to take Yasmin, I went on the pill for one month and withing the 1st week gained 8pds, I stopped taking it after one month, because I am so weight conscience because the pill had made me gain weight in the past.
I tend to have moderate adult acne. I went to my Dr. for an acne treatment, and he suggested the Birth Control Pill. He suggested Yasmin because of the water pill which is in it. This time my Dr. convinced me that I did not give the pill enough time last time and should give it three months minumum.
So, I have given it four months and the symptoms seem to be getting worse as well as the weight gain, and irritability.
I have also felt depressed and wondered if have been depressed which I have never had thoughts of in the past.
One thing that Yasmin has done well for me has been clearing up the acne, which was what I wanted to stop, but after enduring all of these other symptoms, I would rather have adult acne in trade for all of these.
Like I mentioned above I took my last pill last Saturday because that was the end of my pack and I do not plan on starting a new one this Sunday. I can only hope that I do not get any negative side effects when coming off of the pill.
I hope that this helps you ladies out there looking for info and highly recommend researching a birth control pill extensively before taking it.
Wishing you all the best of luck, thank you all for voicing your symptoms as I didn't even realize that these were all pointing to one problem.YASMIN.

I can't believe I have found this site!!! I have been having horrendous but very petty arguments with my boyfriend just lately, to the point I do not know if we are over as he is only speaking to me in a temper voice. Obviously I believe eveything is his fault(!) and now after reading the site I am wondering if it is all actually me and down to my pill, yasmin, as everything I have read about everyones mood swings rings true! I am almost 3 months in and have been experiencing headaches for the first time in my life and I thought it was just one of those things. My breasts are nearly up a whole size and I have become really really self conscious which I have also never been like before and few of my clothes appear to fit. I have also recently visited the Dr's with dizziness which I actually put down to Jasmin although she said it couldn't possibly be the pill and put it down to a dodgy eardrum which she thinks I have - also I believe I have become increasingly deaf... could that be the pill too or am I now blaming everything that is going wrong in my life on that one tiny little tablet????
I am going to book an appointment with my Dr for tonight but am really conscious that I am going to burst into tears the moment I walk into the surgery - is this the table or because of the rows with my boyfriend? (Like the chicken and egg!)
I have been on Dianette for years and have never experienced any problems - surely it can't be that bad, can it?????

Hello,
I am soooooo happy to have found this post!!! I have been on Yasmin for approximately six months for very irregular or non-existent periods. About four months ago I began having dizzy spells where I could not walk or move my head without vommitting. I have now had one each month, this last one occuring for three days. I have also experience nausea, stomach aches, vommitting, etc... intermitent from the other symtoms. Long long story short I was referred to an ENT specialist and was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease (Inner Ear.) I didn't buy it so I began searching for side effects of Yasmin - I am stopping it today! I have my fingers crossed this is the problem>

Hi. I just wanted to let everyone know what has happened since I stopped taking Yasmin 4 days ago. (I only took it for 2 months.) I'm still having heart palpitations, feeling of a lump in my chest, and still a bit dizzy at times. My ears kind of feel like when I'm on an airplane coming in for a landing when the dizziness comes around. I'm also still having an occasional urge to cough. I still have shortness of breath and it's very noticeable when I'm talking and saying a long sentence. I thought the symptoms would really decrease but it seems to come and go. I feel the palpitations more frequently during the evening hours. I don't know why that is though. All of this makes it really hard to concentrate a work. I was reading one blog that said to take extra magnesium and zinc. Has anyone tried that and is it effective?

Hi, Ive been on Yasmin for four months and am seeing my Dr this week to change it ASAP!!! I have severe mood swings and my mood plummets the week before I come off it, I've gained weight and feel generally depressed which is completely out of character for me. I'm pleased to read that I'm not the only one who has found this because I genuinly thought I was going mad and needed professional help because the booklet says that this pill is the new age contraception pill and doesnt cause any of the side effects I've been experiencing.

I've been taking Yasmin about four years...and about a year ago, I kept remarking that I think Yasmin changed its formula because I experienced terrible water retention (at least 6 pounds every month) and psychotic mood swings two weeks before my period. Originally, I started taking Yasmin to restart my periods which I lost for 3 years, supposedly due to weight loss (I lost 40 pounds in four months). But after I gained 20 back, still no period. This is when I started taking Yasmin and within 30 days it gave me a period like clockwork. I was fine for a few years, though very reclusive, which I thought was my depression - I do have a history of it. Funny, while taking Yasmin, I attributed my moodiness to PMS not depression. Since February of 2007, I have gained 10 pounds and my breasts have increased a cup size. As a result, my gyno and my shrink decided I should take Yasmin straight through so I didn't get PMS, or a period for that matter. The only reason I'm not depressed anymore is because I take Wellbutrin and Clomipramine. So now I don't get the pychological symptoms anymore -- just the bloating, constipation, huge boobs (they were big before) and general annoyance. To think it could have been the Yasmin all along! When every doctor told me I was insane...getting older...body changing...bipolar! One I finish the last pill, I'm taking matters into my own hands and kicking Yasmin to the curb. I would seek a Dr.'s help, but I'm sick of them shrugging me off. I'll report back. *Fingers crossed.*

hi guys! about four months ago my doctor switched me from ortho tri cyclen lo(which I had been on for two years) to yasmin. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. About a week into the medicine I started getting horrible headaches, terrible anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I was sooo scared from this medicine that I stopped taking it thinking that everything was going to get better! Well wasnt I wrong. I developed OCD really bad to a point where I would sit and worry that I would hurt someone I loved or that I would hurt myself. and I had disturbing thoughts in my head that made my anxiety worse. I have been off the medicine for like 4 months and I am now taking 50 mgs of zoloft for my OCD, anxiety, and depression. I am unsure that it is working yet it's only been two weeks! I hope and pray eveyday that I finally start feeling myself! It's been horrible! Has anyone had this experience from this medicine? and if so do you think that I should get a hormone test, because I am almost convinced from reading other posts that my hormones are wacky! I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it.
Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

Sophie,
I just read your post and hope you are feeling a little better by now. We all know exactly how you are feeling and that the thing with post-yasmin is that one day you are fine and the next day you feel terrible.
When this happens to me i try to remember that the chances are high that by the next day i will be feeling a little better. I am off yasmin for a little longer than you. About 8 months. I think that from 6 months onwards i started to get a little better.
I was able to start making since of things again.
If you can keep a diary of how you are feeling you will notice a pattern. This helps you to ride out the bad days.
It might be helpful to note the day you are ovulating and how long after that until you start to feel bad.
Yesterday i found out that i have a luteal phase defect. This has been linked among other things to contraceptive use. But the doctors have said that it is treatable with progesterone.
I have been keeping a menstrual diary for the past four months. I noticed that my cycles were getting shorter and i was ovulating earlier.
Try this and it might help. I really hope it does. I know it is not an instant cure but it might put you on the road to recovery earlier. This along with all the great advice from flowerbabies and everybody else will keep you going until soon you will have no more yasmin poison left in your system.
I know i have mentioned this before but i feel that LDN has helped me hugely. It is currently used as an ms drug but is been prescribed off-label for pms and hormonal problems. Google "low dose naltrexone" to get info on it.
If you can try to remember when you do feel bad that this is not permanent, it will go away soon.
Migraines during menstruation are usually because of the change in hormone levels. I suffered too from them and sometimes could not even open my eyes to light. Along with nausea this can mean that you get anxious because you start to become afraid that something more sinister is happening.
This then starts a vicous circle.
Why not ask your doctor for an anti-migraine prescription. I took these for a while when my migraines were at their worst. They really do work. The trick is to take them before your migraine starts.
If you are keeping a diary you will notice that the migraines come at around the same time every month.
I hope this helps Sophie. I wish you the very best of luck. Just Remember that this WILL go away. You WILL be ok again and there are people on this forum who know exactly how you are feeling.

I've been off it for a couple of days now and already starting to notice an improvement. I'm still in shock that a birth control pill could cause so many physical and mental ailments. No more. I'm going to try natural herbal remedies to combat my PMS... I'm fixed so don't need the pill for BC, was just using it to regulate my periods, keep my skin clear, and level out my moods - which Yasmin seemed to do nicely for about four months. Then things changed and boy oh boy, it's not worth it.
Best of luck to those of you who are just starting to detox. I'm right there with you.

oh I forgot to mention the extreme thirst! I also feel 'full' even though I haven't eaten and when I do eat it's even worse! It is very uncomfortable and makes me feel even more anxious. (It's lunch time and I'm terrified to eat.) I also have this feeling in the middle of my chest like there's air stuck in there so I try to burp for relief (That feeling makes me anxious too...) Good God this sucks! I broke down and got a packet of pills last night because I figured my symptoms were somehow related to being off of the Yasmin. (I was right!) I think I will ditch them and try to push through this - even though that's 50 bucks down the drain! I was off of bc pills for about four months or so but I have bad PMS and hoped that being on the pill would help. (They touted Yasmin as an answer to PMS!) The worst part is that I have Bipolar disorder, so I have to be very careful about what medications I take. I'm about to break down and call my doctor for some Klonopin because I feel like I'm going crazy and I need some relief!! (I'm at work right now, I have no clue how I'm even functioning..) I need to get some Slim fast shakes or something so I don't starve myself...
Sorry for two long posts, but I am so relieved to find this site. I wish there was something we could do: there are so many of us suffering and for what????

Hi all- I just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been off yasmin for almost four months and it is so hard for me to tell if I really have anxiety issues or if it is all because of yasmin. I am feeling better, but I still suffer from OCD- which never came out until I was on yasmin. The good news is that I feel better- I am still suffering though. My body is taking along time to adapt to getting the bad hormones out!! If you are suffering just know that you will get better. My advice is to get off yasmin as fast as possible and take care of yourself. Thank you flowerbabies for all of your advice and kind words when I was at my worst!!

Sorry for the repeat post, but I never got an answer--I just stopped taking Yasmin and after a week and a half today I am having chest pain and can't take a full breath. I only took it for four months, how long will it take for all this to go away?
HAS ANYONE FOUND A BETTER REPLACEMENT? I still need to think about birth control... Has anyone tried the Nuvaring?
Thanks everyone, this board has been very helpful to me.

Hi everyone!
I took my last Yasmin pill on Friday because on Saturday I got the worst migraine in my life... I was super sensitive to light, smell, and noise and hated everyone and everything. I never used to get migraines before so finally, convinced that it was the pills, I stopped taking them. I have been feeling very anxious all day long after my first Yasmin-free night and I googled the side effects to try and convince myself I'm not crazy when I found this site. Thanks to everyone who's been posting here, I already feel better about my decision to stop them. Has anyone found a replacement that works well for them? I think I will go pill-free for at least a month and see how I feel first.
My side effects include waking up in cold sweat with severe panic attacks, increased heart beat (that scares the hell out of me), chest pain and pressure, fatigue, nausea, unbearable migraines, depression, yelling and crying for no reason (I never yell!), and what not... I had only been taking them for four months... any idea how long it will take for the symptoms to go away? I read over and over that the first three months are the worst, is it still that bad if I haven't been taking them for long?
Thanks again everyone,
B.S.

Hello girls, I had been on yasmin for 3years the last year felt as though I was going crazy massive anxiety attacks to the point I could'nt even go on a train or bus without totally freaking out feeling trapped and out of control. Shortness of breath, unable to sleep at night due to the anxiety. I stopped Yasmin after finding this sight I have only been off it for four months but already I feel I am getting back to normal. I am going to try a bus journey soon on my own which sounds crazy but I have always panicked and talked myself out of it, not thinking it was Yasmin just thinking I had totally lost the plot. I have always been a confident person but Yasmin certainley screwed me up for a while, never again also had panick attacks when I had the marina coil obvoiusly due to hormones! Good luck girls x

I have been on Yasmin almost four months and the only side effect I have really experienced are headaches. Almost 3 or 4 per week. It's been rough, but I am ealing with it. My skin is great. The first month I broke out a tiny bit, but nothing compared to the cystic acne I got on Aleese or other pills I have tried. My periods have been signifigantly lighter, and my PMS (cramps, tears, acne) has been the lowest it's ever been. I used to experience days of cramps, now I get a pain or two the 1st day of my period and that's it. I only experience nausea when I forget to take a pill and have to douple up the next day. Overall, I have been happy with it.

I'm so glad I found this site (through www.aphroditewomenshealth.org) -- I have been on Yasmin for four months and have been experiencing the anxiety, panic attacks, depression, sudden bouts of anger, that many of you describe. I've also had a slight increase in hair loss and decrease in sex drive. I've been seeing a therapist about the emotional issues, which do seem to be related to hormones/the pill.
A question: Has anyone here switched from Yasmin to another pill, with good results? I'm not quite ready to stop being on the pill, and would like to try something else. But I want to know whether any of these post-Yasmin symptoms are likely to happen if I'm still taking another type of pill.
I'm seeing my doctor on Monday and plan to share this information about Yasmin with her! She should know that it isn't the perfect dream-pill they advertise it to be. (She prescribed it for me because I had side effects with Necon, and this one is supposed to be good for women who've had trouble with other pills. Ha.)

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!
Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.
I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).
The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.
I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.
For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???
Thanks...

I have been off Yasmin since November 04 so thats 8 months. I've also been trying to get pregnant during that time and have not been able to. I'll let you know I am a healthy 23 year old who doesn't smoke or take any prescription drugs (so I know thats not the reason). The first two cycles after quitting the pill were terribly heavy and really bad cramps. It has started to get better and more like my cycles before being on the pill. The first four months off the pill I was doing the Ovulation pee sticks to see when I was ovulating and during that time they never showed my HcG levels rising until the 5th cycle of being off it. On the fifth month being off of it I felt like I was going crazy! My hormones must have been shifting. I got acne on my face and back (I've never had acne my whole life accept a pimple like once a month), I was having emotional break downs at work, I was terrible to my husband (everything he did was wrong), I was very up tight all the time. Lets just say it threw me way off course. I am still a little wacko in the hormone department and am still trying to get pregnant. Its been 8 months though. That's a long time for your body to have to adjust.

Desperate Boyfriend
I started dating my girlfriend four months ago, in those four months we had an awesome relationship so much so that around 3 weeks ago I decided I would propose to her after our week long holiday. In between that time she on the advice of her skin specialist started taking Yasmin to clear up her acne. Little did I know what an effect it would have on our relationship and her.
From one week saying that she was deeply in love with me to the next where she was having major reservations about our relationship and me in general. She said she wanted someone to inspire her, someone to look up to and admire and someone who was practical. It seemed issues which were only minor or not even issues before suddenly became relationship breakers.
Apart from having issues with me she was extremely moody, could not function at work, could not sleep properly, started swearing at work, changing her mind constantly, she could not make decisions. She cancelled our holiday that I arranged and lost a lot of money on and two days later booked a place somewhere else to stay. Her skin went dry, her nose was itchy, she was not only scotty but snotty, she was constantly dehydrated and had muscle aches.
What I would really appreciate is some feedback on the things she said about me. Now I know there is some substance to what she is saying. I have taken a year off work to study f/t and am living at home with my parents and I am probably abusing that situation a bit but Sydney is a very expensive place to live when you are not working. And I am not at all practical BUT how much is the drug talking and how much is it her?
I love this girl to bits and she still says she loves me. She says that relationally, emotionally, physically, conversationally our relationship is 100% but she wants someone to inspire her.
I would really appreciate your t

In response to the last post: I was on yasmin for four months and have been off of it now for about five months. i STILL have problems with anxiety, and MAJOR ACNE issues that i never had in my life. I recently ordered ProActive to help with the acne on my face, back and chest. Its so gross!!But to answer your question, no, I am not symptom free yet and it is very disheartening because I just want me old life back. I cannot bring myself to start anti anxiety meds becuase I never had this problem for the last 24 years and suddenly I have a mental disorder? Can't buy that !!! My fiance thinks that I am a hypochondriac because he doesnt understand how my headaches, anxiety, fatigue etc could possible still be linked to the yasmin I was on five monthes ago. I don't know what to do but continue to wait..... but GOD I WANT TO SUE!!!! good luck ladies

To the girl who asked about how long it takes to get better:
I was on it for four months, now it is four months after I quit taking it and I feel about 75 percent better. Still have anxiety and headaches, don't feel I cope with stress like I used to either, much more prone to freak outs.

I started taking Yasmin four months ago. I've been on and off the pill for YEARS and other than Yasmin, I've only taken Ortho Novum. My only issues with Ortho Novum were breast tenderness, weight gain and my boobs got bigger by at least 1/2 a cup size. Ok, to many of you and my boyfriend, what's the problem? But when you've already been breast blessed, you don't need any help from a BCP.
After the first week on Yasmin, I thought I better look into the side effects because I was having some serious irritable bowel. Read lots on this site about women who had similar experiences. I won't go so far to say no one should take this pill or it should come off the market, but for me, this pill is not right. It hasn't helped acne really and the biggest side effect for me is raging, unpredictible, and painful moments of extreme bowel discomfort. That's the clean version. The first week of the first month was bad, but then no reoccurance. The next month was only a day or two near the end. The third month was back to the same I expeienced in month one. I decided I'd give it a try for one more month, but into my second week now and still have had a couple of episodes. I'm a healthy woman, I've not changed my diet at all or my exercise routine. The only thing that has changed in my life is the addition of Yasmin. Even if these symptoms were to start to subside, I'm so nervous and anxious about being more than 20 feet from a restroom within 2 hrs of taking my pill that I don't think I can continue with this. I keep pepto in my drawer at work and in my purse at all times. That's a crazy way to live just for a BCP. So I'm going to try something else. Good luck to the rest of you.

Well, it's good to know I, as well, am not going crazy on these pills. My gyno has me on pills for what he thinks (and I just know...) is endometriosis. This is pill #4 in about 8 months, and thank goodness I'm going on something different starting Sunday. The first ones I was on, Cryselle (generic) made me into a hysterical disaster, Orthocyclene landed me in counseling I became such a basketcase and was completely out of control, Apri caused me to develop a real bad heart murmur and severe chest problems. At first I thought Yasmin was alright, then I had a 12 day long period, my boobs feel like they weigh about 32 pounds, everything I wear is tight, even though I work out more than ever, and my sex drive is below zero. My poor boyfriend just returned to our college from studying abroad for four months, and he came home to this! I have absolutely no sex drive whatsoever, and it's very frustrating. I'm really glad I found this website, because this pill has been starting to take a serious toll on me. I, too, am starting to wonder if there are any good pills out there. On Sunday I start taking Kariva...if anyone knows anything about this please let me know! Good luck ladies!

I am at the end of my third month for Yasmin... I was on Ovcon before that for four months but it was not helping my periods. My whole point of getting on the pill was to regulate my periods, and help with the intense pain... Since Ovcon didn't work I was put on Yasmin which has regulated me to the tee... However, all sex drive is gone, I get opthamalic (sp) migraines...headaches... My husband says I'm moody and he blames the pill for everything... I didn't even know I was being moody and now I can tell that my attitude has changed....but I can't go back to how my periods were before...they were just awful and I had them every two weeks for 7 - 10 days at a time.... The sex drive is the biggest issue with me...I already had gotten the weight gain from the Ovcon and my face looked like I was 16 (I'm 29)... Yasmine has cleared up my face though.... If there was a way to get my sex drive back I would love it...I can deal with the other affects. But there are side effects to every pill. I would not use the pill merely for birth control. In fact my husband and I had been using Natural Family Planning which had been working out great...with the exception that I was bleeding half my life away.... It's not worth it to go through all the side effects when there are many other ways of preventing pregnancy.

I have been on Yasmin for four months now and have adjusted beautifully. No nausea, no dizziness, pms is no worse than without yasmin, no breakthrough bleeding, less cramps than before, no change in my complexion. I have maintained my weight since going on Yasmin which was why I chose Yasmin. Everyother pill has always caused weight gain. A friend forwarded me this site because she was concerned about side effects. Everybody reacts differently to different medications. Just a reminder that with all the bad experiences posted here, that there are many people who have positive ones.

i have been on yasmin for about four months. I must say the side effects have been horrible. I have had weight gain, bloating, severe depression and mood swings. I thought it was me now I see it is not. I cry at most anything. I am extremely emotional. I am thinking about not taking that active pill tomorrow and starting on something new:(

PANIC ATTACKS!!!!
What are those!!?!?!?? I have never had a panic attack before I started taking this pill. I have been on if for almost 7 months and didn't really have a problem. My period went from 8 days to 3 days, which was strange to me, but I wasn't complaining. My skin didn't really clear up all that much. I still break out -- just in stranger places on my face than usual. But lately i have had these crippling CRIPPLING panic/anxiety attacks that I can't control. The worst thing? They happen when I'm driving, which scares the crap out of me. I never really gave it any thought that it could be Yasmin. I had never been on bcp before, but after reading many of these postings I realized that Yasmin could TOTALLY be the reason why I have turned into a complete MENTAL case over the past four months. Seriously, the first three months weren't bad at all...but the past three or four months have been out of control. I think I'm going to stop after this pack.
Does anyone have any problems getting off of Yasmin??? Or any advice for it? My one friend went off her pill and had her period for a full month...ugh.
Boys have it so easy. Punks.

im 17 and started Yasmin when i was 14 maybe 15, it made me so sick, id start throwing up about 8 hours after taking the pill, and that would last for about 5 hours, (like having mild food poisoning). I got heart palpitations every minute or so for days on end, and unbearable depression. I was the happiest person until i started taking this pill, and its so bad that i couldn't enjoy my life properly. Now im tiny, like really really thin mums worried i have anorexia, and although my life is perfect (great friend, good grades, nice boyfriend), I cant enjoy any of it properly. I went off it about four months ago and my happiness returns now and then like it used to be three years ago, but my mind feels so fuzzy and sort of disorientated, and i cant seem to convince myself of things properly. I was wondering if these things get better and better or am i stuck like this???
