1. Blood Pressure 180/120 resulting in an emergency room trip
2. Weight gain of 25 POUNDS! Most/all of which was water and came off within the first week of being off from Yasmin.
3. Bloating and extreme water retention. See # 2.
4. Severe leg muscle cramping and foot pain
5. A mental feeling of not caring and general fogginess
6. Complete loss of libido
7. Acid reflux (probably from the diuretic in Yasmin)
8. General weakness in my muscles (there were times that I could barely open a revolving door).

I was on Yasmin for a year. I have been off for one month. I am still on blood pressure meds, but they don't think the Yasmin is out of my system. Has anyone else gotten hypertension from Yasmin and if so, how long did you have to be on blood pressure meds?

Some of my symptoms are getting better after a month, and some are not. If anyone is reading this to decide whether or not to take Yasmin, please don't. You may not have any symptoms right away and you may think you feel great, but that is the scariest part. When symptoms come on gradually, you hardly notice them until you are in the hospital emergency room.

I have been off this pill for 6 days...was taking it for 11 months and I feel horrible today. My side effects while on this pill where:hair loss, complete loss of libido, vaginal dryness, headaches, muscle pain and twitching in my legs, rash on my breasts that was very itchy, nervousness, bladder problems: constant need to urinate and feeling pressure in my kidneys. The list goes on and on. I am scared coming off these pills, I have had dizzy spells all day and feel very nauseated, I have bad cramps. I stopped the pack mid-cycle and I have been bleeding fully since yesterday. I am so scared of whats going to happen next.

okinawak so sorry to hear about your daughter. All I can relate to you guys is my personal experience. I was on Norimin for a couple of years from the age of 19. For the last year (up until a couple of months ago) I was on Yasmin. I experienced anxiety whilst taking these pills which I attributed to stress, but since I have been off the pills I am feeling fantastic. I stopped taking Yasmin because I was experiencing other things like pains in my calves, hair loss and getting spider veins, loss of libido (I'm only 23). :-( I decided upon reading other experiences on this page to stop taking Yasmin. I am happy to report back that I am feeling great... Fantastic in fact. I won't say that its directly related to Yasmin as I have no way of proving that. All I can say is how I felt during and after. And for the last three months I have felt greater confidence in my ability to deal with what life throws at me. I am feeling happier all the time, and I think my libido is improving. All the best to you guys, and all those out there worried about symptoms, please go see your doctor!

Have any of you developed Leukemia after taking Yasmin? Or do you know some one who has developed it and they just happened to be taking it at the time? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I started taking Yasmin a year ago to help control my acne which the dermatologist described as adult acne or hormonal acne. It worked and cleared it up. Since then I have gone off of it twice, but the acne returns, so I go back on it. I went to the regular doctor this past week, and he diagnosed me with depression. The depression symptoms started around the same time I was put on yasmin. Could they be linked? I don't want to go off of it because my acne will come up, but it seems to have totally changed my personality. Thoughts??

I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it.

Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

Hello ladies,

I thank the organisers of this forum and all the ladies who have participated in discussion in regards to the concerns and problems they are facing with Yasmin.

I am a 26 yr old male whose girlfriend is currently on Yasmin and have taken the time to research a bit about this product with a serious concern not only to her health but to our relationship !

We are suffering almost all of the above mentioned problems - and i say 'we' because i am going through a LOT here. It might be worth noting here that I only see my girlfriend on weekends.
Excessive moodiness - and when i say excessive i mean the type that was described by 'Nicole' and many others - the type that makes her want to crawl out of her skin, she gets very shaky as a result and complains that she has knots in her stomach at the end of it. These sessions have lasted up to 6 hours straight which was only yesterday evening. Being a who the type of person i am, i cant but feel responsible for her feeling this way, i keep blaming myself for something i may have said.
Anxious / panic attacks. She becomes totally unmanagable, often crying a LOT from feeling anxious for hours on end, to the point where she DOES want to crawl out of her skin as 'Nicole' put it. She gets shakey and dizzy all at the same time.

Cramping sensation in the legs

Tiredness - as put by 'Voicesi' "like pass-out tiredness". After a day long attempt to make her feel relaxed, being a kind gentlemen for an entire day, she would literally pass-out. Being a stereotypical male in this regard and I understand that us men have the ultimate weakness when it comes to the 'urge for sex' or our 'need to reproduce' but i hope to get intimate with my best friend, who ends up passing out. This leads me to another problem:
Loss of libido - Yet another problem faced by the many messages on this forum, namely by 'Christy', 'missy botto', 'missy' to name but a few. 'Tanna' has also complained about having no sex drive. No sex drive to the point where there is usually no physical contact whatsoever. I cant go near her sometimes which leads to further problems. she feels as though i'm afraid of her. I am very afraid of her! She cries, gets very anxious, would be shaking in the foetal position for hours. I would in return feel totally useless as I cant comfort her in any way. I feel helpless, she feels that she's all alone in this so i take it personally... I think its safe to say that these pills are 'from hell' as 'ML' put it.
I am tempted to throw away these pills to be the partner "who cant keep up" as 'christy' put it.
I believe she is doing physical damage to herself.
I dont deserve the way I am being treated and you ladies out there with these problems are hurting not only yourselves but quite possibly - and my case is a perfect example - others around you. Why ? all in the name of having unprotected sex, reduced periods, clear skin, controlled periods, or whatever reason it is ITS NOT WORTH IT !!

Guest 37371-

A decrease/change in vaginal lubrication is a change with oral-contraceptives. See a couple of entries below your entry on side effects of Yasmin. Many women have complained of loss of libido on Yasmin. Given how many other problems women here and on the new site in the UK have experienced, I cannot reccommend Yasmin or its sister pill Yaz at all as they have created very serious problems for many women including myself. I personally would recommend getting off it and finding a more traditional pill, or off the hormones altogether if you can and practice a more natural/non-hormonal method.

Yasmin generally helps women with acne which it did with me so you are experiencing sounds unusual. Another reason on top of many others to get off of it.

Look 2-3 entries below your entry and read the insert that comes with Yasmin-if you are experiencing chills and fever like symptoms-you should contact your Doctor immediately. This is not normal. Many women have had this happen actually-Yasmin and Yaz have some terrible life threatening and very serious health effects.

So, I'd say get off of it. Check the U.K site Flowerbabies set up. you'll see what kinds of problems Yasmin is creating.

I have been on Yasmin for a little less then a month. Since I have been on it my husband and I haven't not had sex, not once!! Before Yasmin we had a great sex life and now it's like, what's sex?? I have pimples the size of dimes that are nasty and I break out all the time. I gained probably about five pounds in less then a month. I get cold chills and fever-like symptoms and I really hate it so far. My husband just hates that we never have sex anymore. Is loss of sex drive one of the symptoms? I was reading about it and I guess my other ones are normal, but I read nothing about loss of sex drive. I'm 20 and a newly wed...I should want i should want to do it every day!!

Hello Yasmin users, PLEASE HELP WITH ANY ADVICE:

I was concerned about weight gain with BCP
(Ortho Tri Cyclin made me gain too much weight 30pds in under 1 yr)
my OBGYN recomended Yasmin, she said it had the opposite effect. I have been on this pill for about 2 years. One of the first and biggest side effect I noticed right away was rapid weight loss - I was not doing anything different with my exersize regimine or eating.
Also in the beggining and worsened, after staring YASMIN:
Depression, which I went to see my doctor about twice and she said it would go away. - and third, like a downward spiral getting worse and worse now above all is no libido. I have been complaining about this and she said loss of libido is normal with ALL BCP and if she switched me it would make no difference. I am frustraed with her responses to my issues.

IS THIS TRUE? Are they all the same??????

I also get a lot of headaches on this pill and I never hardly ever got a headache before. My eyes sometimes twitches too, which is weird. It seems like if I don't take the pill the same time every day and I wait until later - then I get headache or nausea.

I also noticed I feel better when I am on the placebo pills and are on my period, and actually feel kind of "in the mood" for alck of better terms.

I am willing to take a pill with weight gain side effects!! - if I can have my sex drive back!!!!!

PLEASE DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS ANOTHER PILL THAT I CAN LOOK INTO?
HOW ABOUT ORTHO EVRA??????????

I'd been on Yasmin for almost 4 years, and around November of 2005 started experiencing very severe stomach cramping and bloating, depression, acne, and total loss of libido. I also noticed an increased amount of ear wax build up! I went to my doctor, and found out I had lost almost 35 pounds since my last check up (1 year ago in January, and I was only 125 pounds at that point) and she suggested that I switch to a lower estrogen dose birth control - which I have tried for almost 2 months..and it is simply not working. I am now going totally off of birth control and I hope this works..When I returned to my doctor last week to inform her of my decision to quit cold turkey, she told me that would help my stomach cramping, etc., but if it didn't that I might have IBS..
Can anyone else tell me if they have experienced anything like this with Yasmin?

I have been on "Yankmearound" for 4 months now. I was on it about two years ago and don't remember have the same side effects as I do now. In fact then I remember only really having anxiety which I am predisposed to, breast tenderness and loss of libido which I thought had to do with my relationship. Well this time my anxiety is pretty bad despite the fact that I am willfully unemployed and exploring a creative direction in my life- I should be much more relaxed! I have also started to notice a sleepless night aroung the start of menstruation each month since I started that has gotten noticeably worse. This month it lasted for the entire duration of my period and seems to be continuing on post starting a new pack! I have never had such problems sleeping thnakfully before taking this poison. I'd really like to know if anyone has experienced such syptoms of insomnia though because of course it is hardly discussed in the Package Insert. I am looking to go off this and looking for non- hormonal options that are not scary like the IUD which can cause pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility! Have anyother methods worked out there ie. female condom, diaphragm, cervical cap? For the typical "no can do condoms man" that I always seem to date.

So my symptoms this time were: breast tenderness, marked loss of libido, anxiety- sometimes creeping up and intense with no conscious indentifiable cause, and this wretched insomnia and ssleep disturbance ie: can't fall asleep maybe until late mornig hours, or wake up after every few hours or wake up early in the morning.

I have been taking Yasmine for 1 1/2 months, and have noticed weight gain and my boobs are huge and tender!!! I have loss of libido, and I'm normally very lubricated down there...but have been very dry. My periods are less, but they last a great deal longer. I thought the pill would help with my acne, but it really hasn't. Considering getting off of it.

OK, so I am thankful I found this site, but I am even more confused now than I was before. I am 31 and have been on Yasmin for over 1 year. In the past year I have noticed that I am a much more self-conscious, nervous person, and I suffer from extreme anxiety. Previously I was a very confident, social, outgoing person. I have very low energy and I seem to get tired too easily. I lack any sort of motivation & get depressed & cry at the silliest things (I can barely make it through an episode of Oprah or ER without welling up in tears!) I have also noticed a ridiculous amount of hair loss. I though my hair was thinning due to my age, but now I have actual bald spots! It recently dawned on my that my problems could be the result of the birth control pill, hence my discovery of this site.

After reading through this site I still can't tell if women are experiencing the negative efffects of anxiety, depression, hair loss, loss of libido, etc. while they are on Yasmin or after they stop taking the pill. After reading the postings on this site I am ready to quit Yasmin today, but I really am curious to know when most people have experienced these side effects the most. Also regarding weight gain & loss, again I can't tell if it occurs while on or off the pill. So far it hasn't been an issue for me, but what will happen when I stop?

I didn't have problems with Yasmin the first time I took it but I quit because of the loss of libido. I'm taking it again and I'm noticing the problems - palpitations, nervousness, insomnia.

For those asking about Ortho Tri Lo - I tried it in the past and all I did was bleed, bleed, bleed. Yasmin was the first one that didn't make me spot.
