Guest 38149-
good for you! We are delighted needless to say. If you haven't checked out the UK forum-see the link in emails below-highly recommend you do so. Sarah/flowerbabies set this up and its grown alot.
Yes-I did experience trouble sleeping and suspect it was from low magnesium levels/elevated potassium levels-now after 2 months on a 1200/1200 calcium/magnesium supplement by Rainbow Light-with enzymes that aid digestion-has mostly subsided.

If you are experiencing palpitations, chest pain, see your Doctor or go to ER immediately. Have your potassium levels checked promptly to ensure that you have not developed Hyperkalemia (excess potassium) in your blood which is likely and happened to me becuase of the potassium sparing diuretic in Yasmin*. Hyperkalemia can be lethal and is extremely dangerous and a risk taking Yasmin.
Erykah-I haven't seen anyone whose tried/used St. john's Wort but would recommend instead having your hormone levels and your adrenal function tested? Oftentimes, after Yasmin, becuase of the diuretic flushing that occurs (constant peeing/urinating) it throws off our electrolyte and mineral balances in addition to that it suppresses our adrenal glands. I have found success with B vitamins (A B stress tab) or a whole food/bio-available Vitamin*. The whole food and bioavailability part is really important-because it is what makes it more accessible/useable by your body. Also-take a calcium and magnesium supplement if you find you are low on magnesium which is one of the minerals Yasmin's diuretic depletes*. I'm taking one that is equivalent ratios: 1:1-1000 of each because minerals compete with one another so taking a calcium that is higher will not give you the benefit of the magnesium. Low magnesium levels effects the health of all the muscles in our bodies-including the heat and if oftentimes what causes the murmurs/palps.

hi All
Well, the results are back from a blood test an RN took and while I don't have them in front of me, she advised that my potassium is "little bit high". The normal range is 3.6-5.2. i am at 5.7.
so after all I've been reading and the article on Hypokalemia and its risks from yasmin because Yasmin increases potassiium in the blood-I am wondering....??? 6.0 reading is where they recommend an ECG for arrythmias and treatment! And i've been off of Yasmin now for the last 3 months!
I just started a Calcium and Magnesium supplement 1000mg each as I'm convinced the high potassium threw the balance off of these two which regulate heartbeat and rate!!!
Anyone experience high potassium rates? It is one of the greatest risks with Yasmin!

I'm glad I'm not alone. I didn't have any problems with Yasmin at first, but when I lost weight I started to have a lot of vaginal dryness, difficulty with my contact lenses, twitchy legs at night, foggy thinking, etc. Takign a magnesium supplement helped with the twitchy legs. I went off of Yasmin one month when I was travelling and all those side efects went away. In addition, I found that I was sleeping better than I had in months. I stayed on it for a while because none of my side-effects were very strong and would come and go, and I wasn't sure if it was the Yasmin
My OB-GYN was very understanding so this month I'm switching back to Ortho-tricylen. Wish me luck!

hi claudia (hope)
i know exactly what you are going through,i have been there myself (as have many many women on this site) i suffered extreme anxiety/panic attacks, they were by far some of the worst symptoms i had while taking this pill as i felt i was going mad or had some kind of mental illness,i really thought my life as i knew it was over,i am 32 years old with 2 young children but i felt that bad i didn't think i wanted to carry on...then i found this site and came across so many women in this same situation and it saved me. i have been off yasmin for 4 months now and my anxiety levels are way way way down,it is now mainly in the background and is a memory rather than a constant feeling of fear. the practical things you can do are...take a B vitamin complex, vitamin B6, a magnesium supplement and maybe a little zinc too. take really good care of yourself with regards to what you eat and how much excercise you do.drink plenty of water and i mean plenty as it is great for anxiety and great for cleansing the body of these hormones. on a mental level try to remember that these feelings are not REAL fear as there is nothing to be afraid of it is just a chemically induced mood, panic attacks although scary will never actually hurt you even though they feel like you are going to die or go crazy. stay positive ( i know, easier said than done!) and face your fear head on,i know it sounds crazy but by taking control you will begin to feel stronger and more able to cope. it WILL get better but it will take some time for your body to get back into it's natural harmony, have faith that it will get better and please please listen when i say you are NOT crazy it is this horrible pill. i started to feel better after the first couple of months with regards to the anxiety and i hope you will too.i still have hormone problems and symptoms but the panic feelings are virtually nil. try the supplements i mentioned and try to reduce your stress levels too. i wish you all the best and hope that this has been of some help to you

brittkat,
i had the dizziness for quite a while when i was on yasmin, sometimes it would last for hours at a time for days on end,i thought i had an inner ear infection but it was ruled out by my doctor. i have been off yasmin for 3 months now and my symptoms have pretty much all subsided and improved dramatically. once your natural hormones get back into rhythm things should improve. i still get a bit dizzy and anxious when i am ovulating but even that is getting better and better with each cycle. i have no idea how long it will take to get back to "normal" but it is a good idea to take a good b complex,b6 and magnesium supplement to support your body while it is getting back into it's own rhythm. i am sure i am now suffering from estrogen dominance but not as severely as when i was taking yasmin, dizziness is a symptom of this condition along with many of the other symptoms suffered by a lot of women on yasmin. i am beginning to think that if you already have an underlying problem with low progesterone levels when you start on yasmin it will make it much much worse. it may be worth getting your medical provider to check your progesterone levels. (and your ears just in case you have an underlying ear problem that is causing the dizziness but i suspect it will not be the case.
i hope that is of some help to you, have faith in the knowledge that it will get better.

To the last few posters:
yes, sore legs is one of the symptoms that can be brought on by Yasmin! I had them, too, during taking Yasmin and even a few months after getting off!! And so are the leg cramps!! Yasmin can cause a lack of magnesium in your body (and many other minerals and vitamines as b-vitamines and so on). So perhaps it might help you to take a magnesium supplement to help against the leg cramps.
But first of all and after all I went through I would recommend to get off this pill as fast as you can!! There are so many other and better ways for bc!! Please read through all of the stories here and seriously think about what you perhaps are doing to your body with taking this pill!! Be careful all of you out there!!
The very heavy symptoms hit me after 2 years and my life was about to end (because I didn't realize, that it was all this pill!!) after about 5 years taking it!!! So don't think, that if you're doing well with Yasmin now after a few weeks or months, that it will be all the time that fine!! I thought so for about 5 years until realizing the harm I was doint to my body!! I don't want anyone of you to go through the torture I had to go through!! It nearly ruined my life, I'm serious!! And everything gets better very very slowly (off the pill for 8 months now and still not as fit and healthy as I was all of my life before Yasmin!!!).
The heart palpitations and the rapid heartbeat is also a symptom brought on by this wonder pill!! I went through every day with a heartbeat about 90 to 120 for about 8 months!!! And it took the whole amount of 6 months (!!!) AFTER getting off Yasmin, until this symptom stopped and my heartbeat went to normal about 70 to 80!! So please don't worry!! It will get better. Give your body time to recover after putting this Yasmin poison into it!! And even if you were taking it just for one month... !!!
Take care and don't give up!!
Best wishes!!

Ladies!! I posted here a few days ago...I had a horrible weekend-with the excessive fatigue and panic attacks...but I wanted to share what I have discovered. I strongly believe that all of us being on Yaz and getting totally screwed up-that our electrolytes are out of whack! And our mineral balance-which is essential to our overall well-being is completely messed up. I think we all have magnesium deficiencies!!! I am blown away by this discovery in myself- I hope you all can get some relief-there is this powdered magnesium supplement called Natural Calm and I took it last night and this morning felt like a new person!! I still feel a little strange but compared to the last 6 weeks, I feel like a new person-like my old self!! I could get into a Nutrition 101 lesson on the importance of balancing calcium intake with magnesium intake but I'll let you so the research. I also have a book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing (which is an excellent resource) and it stated that magnesium deficiencies are caused by (among many other things) birth control pills and diuretics!! and as we all know-Yaz is a terrible diuretic. Good Luck and I really hope this brings those of you who try this some (if not all) the relief you can have!! Just give it a try...worst case scenerio is that if you take too much magnesium you will have diarrhea- but that is not likely to happen-take it in a controlled way!! You simply mix the Natural Calm in hot water-like tea!! It's such a simple fix to such a complicated problem. Also, I went to the doctor yesterday and had bloodwork done...waiting for the results but she thought it was my thyroid too!! That's messed up...this stupid drugs has screwed our bodies up so bad...but we can fix them...let's have hope!! We just need to get balanced out again!! Take care
