Ladies, I feel like an intruder for being the only male posting a comment on this site. But the thing is, I'm desperate. My girlfriend began taking Yasmin this beginning of this year, and i believe it's one of the main reasons I'm seriously considering ending a 3yr relationship. Since she began using Y, she's become a different person - a lot more emotionally unstable, and sorry to say quite self-absorbed. Her sex drive is almost non-existent, but that's not the hard part tho. It's the fact that when i hold her tight she often doesn't even put her arms around me, physical affection has decreased so much I often find myself thanking her when she touches me......when did it become an effort to show love?
She's become very distant on more than one level, and i swear she doesn't wanna be with me anymore but just too scared to break my heart.

I have suggested that this pill could be the cause of loss of her libido (can you imagine a guy addressing this issue with his gf), but she denied the possibility. I've done a fair amount of research and I can't believe how many women this so-called miracle drug is affecting them in these ways.

She's honestly the love of my life, the only girl I want but not the person she is now. I've never allowed myself to become dependent on a woman to make me happy, but I'm very weak for her. I've spoken to her about my feelings a number of times but things are not improving.

Any advice for a hopeless fool would be much appreciated.
Thanks for reading

Hi Guest 20077,

I can relate to all that you had to say in your earlier post, except I had a tremendous amount of weight gain. I went in for an appendecitis and they found ovarian cysts and adrenal cysts and Yasmin was supposed to be the miracle drug to help me. I went through Dr. after Dr. as well as counseling and when I just cried in front of her and couldn't talk I ended up in a Psychiatrists office. I'm a Psychology student myself and can't be a Psychologist if I feel like I'm crazy and have my own life out of control so I would much rather suffer through the pain. Btw: I've had these terrible cramps since I first started having periods, have been in the emergency room becuase I couldn't get off of the floor out of the fetal position as they were so bad and had to be carried to the ER, and have missed tremendous amounts of work over the years because of it, but I would rather go back through that then what has been going on. I have been awful to my boyfriend over the past 8 months and although he has wanted to give up because of it a few times, he understood what was going on and has stuck by me which I am so grateful for. I also have 3 children and they have had to deal with a mom who has been moody/depressed, sick all of the time, just awful and they deserve so much more. We all have medical issues of some sort but I believe that the major medical problems that I have currently are due to this drug as every test that every family dr., gyn, and endo has ran has been normal... it has literally taken over my life. I have quit this week and am hoping for the best. So far, I am starting to feel a little better. I have begun to sleep much better. Although I'm staying up later, I'm also sleeping in later in the mornings and my sleep is finally restful and complete which is really interesting because that is a problem that I didn't even realize I had until I stopped taking it and reading these posts and thinking about it. I wish you and everyone else the best of luck.

Tammy

I have been on and off all different types of BCP for the past 13 years due to endometriosis. I started taking Yasmin six months ago. At first, I thought that I had found a miracle drug, I was not having as many PMS symptoms and my cramps were not anything to complain about. About 3months ago my joints really started to bother me, I had severe muscle fatigue, night sweats, insomnia, extreme hair loss, absolutly no sex drive, no attention span, memory loss, and kidney stones.I went to doctors (endocrinologist, reumitoid specialist, oncologist). They did tons of blood work, they found that my symptoms were due to Yasmin. Yasmin has thrown off my hormones, and my thyroid is all over the place. Yasmin should be taken off the market .

Yasmin i swear are suicidal pills. i feel so unbelievably depressed and get this....ive only been on yasmin 4 days!!! im not taking any other medications to make me feel like this either. i just had a baby 4 months ago and last month i was on alesse. i had terrible breakouts from alesse so i thought screw this! (otherwise it was great...but the breakouts were pretty bad) so now, my friend recommended the copper IUD, she said it is doing wonders for her. but since im extreemly fertile ive decided to double up on bcp. i have no idea what else to take for bcp, im afraid of all of them!!! (we should be too....) but yasmin definatly wont be the future for my birth control needs. and i totally agree with Denise about Dr.'s playing dumb to side affects of Yasmin/bcp in general. you pretty much have to look out for yourself when it comes to meds. You know best of whats happening to your body. My doctor treats me like im stupid. saying that alesse is supposed to help with acne and was so confused why im breaking out on it. ANYWAYS... im just trying to find birth control...i wish my bf would get clamped...but he dosent want to because he wont cum...but im not getting fixed at 21...i feel like im going crazy.i hope that we all can find a path of birth control pills/other miracle drug that prevents pregnancy without all these damn side affects. in the meantime *** yasmin! and im pissed off that i have to finish the pack...

after reading what i just wrote...this is not the normal me at all. i want to feel happy again. HELP

For all of you who are on Yasmin and think it's your miracle drug, I hope you never develop side effects because you will be in for the HUMBLING of your life. Imagine being a very successful well-respected person with no history of emotional or mental health problems developing an anxiety disorder after taking Yasmin and living each day of your life in fear. If you haven't researched it,many books refer to anxiety problems being medication-induced, particularly by
oral contraceptives and diuretics. In case you haven't figured it out, Drosperinone is a progesterone which is equivalent to the potassium sparing diuretic Sprionolactone and can cause vitamin depletion, severe electrolyte
imbalances and hence anxiety. We are simply not a bunch of women seeking a website to post our life's problems--we have friends for that! That's great if Yasmin works for you;I hope you never develop anxiety or depression...or better yet, die of a pulmonary embolus or stroke!

Been on femoden Ed for 10 years and got sick of all the water retention and bloating it was giving me and I heard of this new miracle drug Yasmin. I am not one to moan about much and have never had problems with my skin but even though I was a lot lighter due to the water retention vanishing I payed for it by having discusting dry skin with bubbles in it and itching, felt unusually tired, had a panic attack which through me out after getting married and honeymooning in hawaii so I wasn't exactly unhappy about much. I think all pills have slight side effects really and when you think about it you are pumping hormones into your body but this one has got side effects screaming out it. I would have rather had put up with bloating once a month but Yasmin has turned me off the pill altogether.

Ladies,

I posted nearly a year ago on this board about all the side effects and symptoms I was having. I emailed my gyno in NY (I reside in CA) and the woman called me at 2 in the morning and told me to stop taking it because it sounded like I was going to have a stroke.

They keep telling us that Yasmin is this new wonder drug, but I will never take any form of BC ever again. I know that there are other options out there, but that was literal HELL. I am a stable, responsible, healthy person with few problems containing my emotions, but when on this drug, the hormones and moodswings nearly caused me to commit suicide.

Please, Ladies, don't take this drug. It's not worth your life. I'm not being dramatic. From what I've experienced and what I've read, I'm positive that this new "miracle" drug is capable of killing us.

Racing heart, moody...
But worst of all is the WEIGHT GAIN! I have gained subtantial amounts of weight in my stomach/hips and thighs.

The local news here did a story on this "miracle drug" and how it is being prescribed for weight loss! (????????????)

Please, please, please tell me others have gained weight. I eat right and work out - and just had my body fat tested at the gym. It skyrocketed! I am done! I have been on this pill for 6 mos. Back to good ol' Ortho Tri Cyclen

I had taken Yasmin for almost two years, and stopped about 6 weeks ago. Reading the postings on this site really opened my eyes. When you ask your doctor if these odd side effects could be from Yasmin, they act stunned that you could even think such a thing...it's supposed to be the new "miracle drug" they say.

Looking back, I can now accurately target just what Yasmin brought to my life since these side effects have disappeared ever since I stopped this awful pill. After about 6 months on Yasmin I began having SEVERE anxiety attacks -- so bad that I was put on medication and wondered what was wrong with me. I was depressed...a level of depression that can almost not be put into words...along with mood swings that made my friends think that I was defiitely losing it. I had foot cramps regularly, acne, shortness of breath and utter exhaustion 24/7. These are the bad things.

On the only good note, my periods were light, pain-free and wonderful. That was why I stayed on for as long as I did.

I was switched to Mircette 6 weeks ago and all of the Yasmin side effects are now gone. Unfortunately with Mircette, I began hemmoraging a week ago (2 weeks before my period was due) and am still bleeding. I now do not know what to take, or if I should go without. If anyone has advice, I would much appreciate it.

I hope that reading about my Yasmin experiences has helped you, please don't think that any of these side effects are just you...no matter what the doctor says.

I've been taking Yasmin for two years. I always had severe cramps to the point where I would pass out. My doc said Yasmin would help. I was amazed how it helped w/ my cramps after about seven months being on the pill. I thought of Yasmin as the "miracle drug". I wouldn't have to take pain killers anymore!

Well...I've learned a lot today and I will not take this BCP from now on! I didn't realize that a lot of my "problems" were related to me taking Yasmin. I thought I was the type of person to never experience side-effects...that's why I never thought the pill was making me feel the way I did. I'm still in shock. My main concern was these unusual headaches I would get that wouldn't go away (and I still have it now! It's in one spot on the back side of my head...and it's always in the same spot). Two years ago, I had such bad headaches...and I even had an MRI to rule out a tumor and aneurysm. My doc diagnosed me w/ having Migraines. I believe migraines are hereditary (no one in my family has them). I did a little research and found out that oral contraceptives could trigger migraines. I had no idea! I looked up side effects for Yasmin and found this site. And a lot of my problems are listed here:

About me: Age 30, non-smoker, drink rarely.

Negative Side Effects:
- Headaches...localized, won't go away...more annoying than painful.
- Dizziness: especially after I eat
- Blurry vision: I never linked this, but I got prescription glasses shortly after taking yasmin!!
- Moodiness: I would get extremely angry at little things that didn't matter. I've noticed it would get worse each month. I am so not an angry person...now I know why I was acting that way.
- Shortness of breath...even when I wasn't working out!
- Chest Pains...about once a week. I thought I was having a heart attack.
- Achy joints
- Toenail fungus: I couldn't believe this either. My toenails started to look unhealthy. I just learned yesterday that oral contraceptives could cause this. Looking back, it started around the time I was taking Yasmin. Anyone else have this problem?
- Vaginal dryness: I've never had to by KY til recently! Never linked it either.
- Blemishes: some breakouts around period time...but not really bad.

Side effects I have NOT experienced: no weight gain, no anxiety attacks, no lack of sex drive, no brown spots on face, no nausea or gas, no or little pain in breasts.

All my symptoms didn't come at once. They've developed over the period of time I've been taking Yasmin. If they did come on all at once, I would have known it was the pill causing it right away and would have stopped imeadiately. I believe that all BCPs do have negative side effects. I'm going to stop taking these pills and ask my doctor to really evaluate my needs instead of using me like a guinea pig by giving me samples and just saying "try this or that...if that doesn't work, then try this." How effective is that? Well, the pill did work for the cramps, however, it brought many other bad things with it. I'd rather not take a BCP. I just pray my excruciating cramps don't come back! I wish all you luck.

age: 30 Height: 5'9" Weight: 145 lbs
Yasmin user: 2 years to regulate periods and rid of severe cramps
Smoker: No Drink alcohol: rarely

Yasmin definitely got rid of my cramps...I don't pass out from the pain anymore. I thought of Yasmin as the miracle drug until now. Here are some of my symptoms that I've never linked to Yasmin 'til now:

- Headaches (my doc diagnosed me w/ having migraines....they are hereditary; no one in my family has migraines). I now believe my bizarre headaches are Yasmin related.
- Weight gain: not much...about 5 lbs
- Moodiness & extreme fatigue: only around period time
- Blurry vision: could be linked to Yasmin...I never had to wear glasses until two years ago.
- Shortness of breath, occasional chest pain
- Dizziness: some...especially after eating.

I have NOT experienced the following which have been mentioned here: no leg cramping, no nausea or vomitting, no panic attacks, no hot flashes, no acne, no trouble sleeping, no brown spots on my face, no unusual discharge, no hair loss.

I'm not sure what to do now...I don't want to continue taking Yasmin (or any other BPC for that matter....they all have side effects...) I want my strange headaches to go away but I don't want my horrible cramps to come back.

I'm supposed to start a new pack tomorrow...but I'm not.

Much luck to all of you!
