I've been on Yasmin for years now, but recently switched to the generic Ocella. I'm trying to figure out if Yasmin or Ocella is causing my depression. I'm 25 and just recently my depression has been horrible. I've been on Lexapro for years to help with Anxiety/Depression, but never had problems like this before. My psychiatrist just switched me to Prozac. I've been on it 4 weeks and it's not doing anything. The reason I think my depression might be linked to the Yasmin is because the 2 weeks before I get my period I'm insanely depressed, borderline suicidal. Then, the day I get my period, I'm ok. Anyone else have this weird problem?

I was recently put on Yasmin, I've just finished up my first pack. Some of my friends told me to read the blogs on it cause it's not all that it's cracked up to be. I was originally put on it due to PMDD. I get hellacious PMS and i was told that this pill can help. I also take antidepressants to treat mild depression, so the low/single dose hormone is essential for me. Throughout the past month I've had two migraine headaches which is unusual. I do get headaches but not like these. I can't even open my eyes, eat, or have any noise or light around. It's really awful. I do have the dizzy spells and some gnarly pain in my lower abdomen and in between my shoulder blades. It feels like cramps but I'm not having a period yet. I'm hoping these side effects will go away as my body adjusts but frankly, from these blogs I'm really leery to keep taking this pill. Any recommendations for a girl who needs a monophasic pill and need extra help staying sane during PMS? Any news helps. Thanks and best of luck to us all.

Hello ladies! I am happy to say that after about 6 years on Yasmin, last night was the last Yasmin pill I will EVER take. I can't believe I have been on it this long... very scary. I was put on birth control at the young age of 16 because I had cysts on my ovaries. At 17, I found out I had endometreosis. I don't have it bad, but to control it, my Dr. put me on Yasmin and had me taking it constantly for 3 months, then off 1 week. I do have to say, it helped me a lot at first... I guess I didn't really notice side affects at the time except for waking up in the middle of the night feeling very sick to my stomach and I had headaches a lot. It made my periods shorter, less painful and it was amazing only having a period every 2 to 3 months....

I actually didn't notice any side affects until recently. I will also say, I am not 100% that it is the Yasmin to blame, but either way after reading all the side affects people are having and not every reading them before.... I wish I would've stopped taking this horrible medication sooner.

I have felt just fine over the years until recently. I was leaving work one day and had a sudden feeling come over me. It was panic and anxiety and I freaked out to say the least. I felt like things looked weird and like I was going to faint. That was followed by more panic attacks, and feeling "detached". I saw a Dr. and he wanted to give me prozac, I didn't like that idea so I went to acupuncture. After being miserable everyday, I decided to go to another Dr. she prescribed me Celexa. I have been taking it for a couple weeks, but decided I am going to stop the Yasmin and see if I feel any better.

I definitely have mood swings, I get really mad sometimes, I cry more than normal, and now the anxiety. I HATE IT!! I want my life back!! I am taking a new BCP starting next week, but I'm also considering stopping BC all together. Unfortunately, if my endometreosis get worse, I will hurt my chance of having a family.... so I kind of feel like BC controls my life. :(

Thank you all for sharing your stories. They have truly helped me!

My 15year old daughter has just stopped taking Yasmin due to severe depression, anxiety attacks, uncontrollable crying, suicidal thoughts and chest pain with erratic heartbeat. I thank God that we figured out the connection to Yasmin. She has been spiraling down so quickly, I thought I was losing her. While she does not relish the return of heavy, long periods, she is so ready to have her sanity back. Her counselor and gyn confirm the strong likelihood of these being side effects of the Yasmin. I was ready to put her on Prozac and sleeping pills because the situation was so desperate! While I was on Yasmin for years with no adverse effects, there ARE people who are desperate because of this pill! The hundreds of posts are too numerous to ignore the REAL truth. Is is worth it to "just try it out" for a boob inflation? You are taking a serious risk, sweetheart!

Okay, I don't have any side effects, but I do want to know something important!
I'm 16 years old and i REAALLLY want someone (who knows about the Yasmin pill!) to help me out with this one. Tomorrow i am going to the doctor with my mom. I have irregular menstruation. Like 2 or one week before it's supposed to come. I also get cramps, which are just enough to hold out...But the thing is, i just want to get the Yasmin pill. I heard that it clears your skin (although i don't have acne or anything) and it can make your breast bigger.. I have like a A-cup and bigger breast are nicer.
But now I read these bad experiences and I'm just scared to start it.. But still i wanna try it, 'cause I can stop right after it starts to become bad, right??
Please give me a good and useful answer!

Thanx!
A confused girl

It is so funny to read all of the negativity but nothing positive! I came here looking for side effects and get a bashing about how horrid Yasmin/Yaz is! Let me first start off by listing my side effects that I wanted to know about:

breast tenderness
change in appetite
tiredness
red spot in eye

Next, let me tell you that I researched BEFORE taking this medicine because 1. I have MS 2. I suffer from migraines and seizures and 3. I take a whole boat load of medications! My doc recommended Yasmin for PMDD coupled with Sarafem to help my mood right before and during my time of the month. I must say that I have only been on it for about 10 days so I do not know anything of how it works with my period.

I am APPALLED at the fact that there are few, if any, positive comments about this pill! I know for a FACT that it works because I know 7 people personally that are on it that have NO PROBLEMS! So, I ask you all that have negative comments, what is wrong with you, other than you HATE the pill? What OTHER meds were you on while taking it? I read a few comments about stopping for a month and then starting again and then wondering why they felt like crap?? Well HELLO?! You are effing with your body's hormones! And there is a difference between Yaz and Yasmin hormones. If you had a bad experience with Yaz, make sure you are not confusing it with Yasmin! Yaz is a 24 day hormone pill where Yasmin is only 21 days.

I am not a doctor, but like I said, I have done my research. I have suffered with adult acne and PMDD for years. It sucks. If Yasmin helps, I want to know. I don't want to read a bunch of bull about people who mess up their cycles by taking the pill and smoking or taking the pill with meds they shouldn't be taking them with. I know what I can and cannot take. Most of what I take is natural and what is not, well, it CAN be taken with Yasmin. Like the website for Yasmin says and like most of the informational, non-biased websites say, Yasmin and Yaz is not for everyone. Some people cannot handle this type of hormone.

I can guarantee you that some doctor or pharm company can tell you that whatever symptom you are having is from something completely unrelated to the BC you are taking. Warnings are clearly marked...read them and obey!

My doctor wants to give me Yasmin due to bad pms every month. I am already on meds for mood disorder but they don't seem to budge the monthly aggravation and agitation I suffer. I am 43 and do not need a BC pill as I had my tubes done a few years back but he feels this may be the answer for the pms. I had an oblation procedure done last year and only have a 3-4 day mild period anyway. Is anyone else in this situation? Should I take this pill ?

Where to start! I started Yasmin in Sept. of 2005. So I've been on it 2 and a half years. Things were fine for a while. It did what it was supposed to do, including no weight gain. That's how its been marketed here, so that's why i got it. Nothing has happened all of a sudden. Its all creeped up on me very slowly. Headaches, pressure in my sinuses, tiredness...all pretty simple. But here's the thing. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and put on Prozac. The Prozac didnt help. I came off it. Now here's the more troubling symptoms I've experienced. Heart Palpitations, squeezing in my chest making it hard to breathe, increased fear and anxiety (which cause heart attack-like symptoms which can more commonly be described as a panic attack). I've had my finger on the 911 buttons several times in the last 8 months. Now I'm discovering the joy of incontinence. Do you have any idea what its like to be in the store buying groceries and then all of a sudden there's a puddle of number 2 around your shoe? I do. I'm 23. Abdominal pain, stomach distension, constipation followed by diarrhea. Hair loss. Cold feet. LOSS OF SEXUAL DRIVE! My God!

I've said all this to my doctor. He ran blood for everything, there's nothing wrong with me medically. X-rays, mri's, cat scans, ekg's. Nothing nothing nothing. I changed doctors and told the new doctor my story. He figures that because i was put on Prozac for depression, that I must have developed Hypochondria (aka extreme paranoia and a belief that I'm terminally ill). Not true, I know its not terminal, i just need to be put on a new pill. My husband and I have regular sex, he's allergic to latex, and even those non-latex condoms. We're not ready for babies yet, so I dont know what to do. But if this helps someone else, then taking the time to write this was worth it. And as a side note, if you're on the pill and have the choice, and your doc wants to put you on prozac...Don't do it. Try switching your pill first.

Hi, I've posted before, but I'm back with a few new symptoms....
I have been taking Yasmin since I don't know when. I was one of the first at my OB/GYN office to get on it when it first came out. Egad, what a crappy, painful life Yasmin produces.
I seriously do not think that I have felt "well" since I have been on it. I have constant body aches, nausea, bowel problems, abdominal pain, tremendous pain in the gall bladder area which resulted in surgery that probably wasn't totally needed, leg pain and cramping (feels like a shin-splint...without having worked out), constant emotional outbursts, facial hair growth, absolutely NO sex drive, and migraines that I had never, ever had before...basically I feel like an ogre with a really bad case of the flu.
My newest "problem" is that my periods all of the sudden only last two days and are very light. I know that some people would be happy with that symptom, but this is NOT normal. One box of "Lite" tampons will last me 3 months. I think that this is the LAST STRAW with me and Yasmin. I just started a new pack, but I took the last one I will ever take this morning. I would rather enjoy having sex with my finance(I'm sure he would like that too because I just don't want to do it EVER right now), not bark at people or cry for no reason, have less body pain, and maybe...for once in many years...FEEL GOOD.
I really feel that if I continue on this crap...I'll either never be able to have children (which I do want), or I will end up killing myself or possibly my finance because I cannot control my emotions. For those of you who tout the wonders of Yasmin...I used to think it was great too before I figured out that I didn't feel this way before taking it. Feeling like shit every day of your life changes your outlook. I'll take menstrual cramps and ovarian cysts over all of this any day.

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

wow, I am so glad I found this site. I started taking Yasmin a few weeks ago, and in that time I have been to psychiatrists, therapy, put on Prozac etc. because of weird anxiety spells and horrible fatigue. I am extremely sleepy off and on during the day, so tired I can barely move. I am sleeping poorly, wake up early, nap constantly. My sex drive is all over the place, sometimes so horny I'm ready to jump on anything that comes across my path, but most of the time so tired I can barely get the energy to take a shower, let alone enjoy sex. It has pretty much ruined my life for the past month, I have missed work and school, blown off friends to sleep. I can't even clean the house or walk the dog. My best friend told me that I have not been myself for a few weeks now. Oh yeah, and my hair is falling out!!!! Of course the doctors want to blame it on depression, iron definciency, weed, poor diet, any excuse they can make up except that perhaps the pill they so blithely proscribed causes awful side effects! I am stopping this drug tomorrow, and we'll see if the symptoms go away. Thank you all so much for posting so that I now have a clue as to why I have been going crazy for the past month.

I googled 'vomiting', mood swings' and 'fatigue' and this forum was the third result and since I'm currently on Yasmin, I figured it must be related to what I'm experiencing, and I was right. The first month that I started Yasmin (December 2006), there were little or no side effects, only minor nausea and headaches. I got married in January 2007 and the side effects started to intensify but I attributed them to other things like stress and nerves. I get frequent headaches, some minor, some major and would vomit almost every month right before my period. My husband has also noticed and commented on my constant change of mood throughout the six months that we have been married and that I appear depressed at times. He says that I have become a different person. This inconsistency has often led to arguments that I cannot seem to find the root of until now. My sex drive is also much like a yo-yo nowadays, I simply feel disinterested most times even though we're both in our prime and it is not helping with my marriage. Therefore, I have made the decision to stop taking Yasmin. I might opt for a different pill or just stop altogether. I am 22.

Thank god I'm normal! I plan to call the doctor TOMORROW to come off of this medication.

I'm breastfeeding my son, so it's difficult to find a "safe" pill to use. I tried the mini-pill with lots of side effects. Have been on Yaz for 10 days, and as I read through all of the posts I realize I've had side effects I didn't even know were side effects!

The most troubling has been the anxiety. To have a panic attack while nursing an infant in the middle of the night is not a good thing. Especially the loss of control knowing that if I pull him off for my own comfort, he will probably become frantic. My anxiety level during the day has been ok, but I've been on Prozac for depression all along, which may be keeping me somewhat even.

Other side effects: insomnia (last 3 nights I've been up till 3 in the morning), extreme muscle aches, nausea in the morning (feels like morning sickness, but def. not preg!), dry, itchy skin, lack of libido and aversive to touch, even in a non-sexual way.

Oh, well...time to try another. Hopefully my OB/Gyn will not give me a hard time.

Has anyone experienced re-current colds after going off of Yasmin? I've been now for almost 3 months (went to Orthocept) but I've been sick now for almost 4 whole months!

Can anyone reccomend remedy for this? I can't figure out why this is happening? I was on Yasmin for 2.5 years, never,/rarely sick and certainly not ever this long!

What i can say and will say to everyone experiencing anxiety-the one tried and true remedy I have ever known was true and effective is EXERCISE. Aerobic. Meditation. Avoid caffeine COMPLETELY and sugar.

I would also say to be warey of all the Anti-anxieties and the anti-depresesants. i was on Prozac years ago when it just came out and since, they've come to recognize they've linked it to causing worse depression and suicide and there are no means to measure long term effects on the body/brain and its ability to naturally create and manage levels of dompamine and serotonin after going off of it.

Hi! Thanks so much for your informative post. I had no idea prozac was used this way as well and will definitely read up on it as you suggested. Your story is intriguing to me because you describe my situation pretty closely, and confirmed what I had felt all along, that my testosterone had fallen and that estrogen had taken over (even if my estrogen was registering a normal level it was still too high because I did not have the testosterone levels to balance it). Did your doctor confirm these findings with you? I had the same annoying stomach problems and just when I thought things were getting better again, I would feel bad again. However at my six month mark, I did feel some improvement, maybe a little more than the 1% you were describing, but not completely, so I tried to restart my old pill I took for 12 years with no problems before I took the yasmin, and at first I felt pretty good and things really started to feel normal, but then about 12 days into it I started with the anxiety again and stopped taking them immediately about day 15 and all my symptoms seemed to start over from scratch just like after I quit the yasmin. (I really wanted to die at this point), but now 4 months after that episode I feel like I may be progressing again, but it is like you said, back and forth. And all along I have been testing my hormones monthly, I was starting to see my testosterone come up when I was starting to feel better, but when I tried to take that pill again it fell again (I could feel it, I knew even before the results came back) But I want to know, did your doctor confirm your hormones with lab tests? I will definitely read up on the prozac, as I had not heard of it used in this way. Your right though, that is a pretty low dose. Also, I was just wondering did your doctor ever suggest hormonal replacement with bioidentical hormones?
Thanks for your post and in advance for your reply.
Sincerely, BitterRN

Hello,

I haven't been on lately posting my symptoms because for the first time after 8 months of Post Yasmin Hell, I have started to see real progress.

After taking Yasmin for 7 months, I stopped and have been so so sick, it was unbelievable. Over 50 various Doctor visits and nothing at all could be found. I lost my appetite and 13 pounds, had anxiety and heart palpitations, nauseous all the time and just so so ill. I have never been sick all my life... never...aside from colds of course.

Nothing really helped... vitamins, food... nothing. If you really think about it.. . we ingested a POWERFUL horomone suppressent. How can we think that taking vitamins or herbs will solve the problem? Believe me, it might help a little... a very little but far far from the solution.

I notice that my worst symptoms were cyclic and each month I could be assured that I would get worse and going through this month after month with little improvement was taking a toll and I just wanted to literally give up already. The rate of improvement was ridiculous!! 1 % perhaps... less?

So then I told everybody my absolute last resort was taking an antidepressent because my general Dr. told me that it has been used off label to help PMDD which is a menstrual disorder. My other Dr. also told me it has been PROVEN to help gastrointestinal problems also.

I know most of you are scared and skeptical about taking another drug, just how I was. I kept saying.. I am not depressed, etc etc. I was worried about side effects etc. But after a while it came down to a point of.. I NEED TO TRY SOMETHING ELSE!!!!

So if Prozac has been shown to help with female horomone problems I should give it a shot and see if it will help mine, because believe me, it couldn't really get any worse. How can someone live through or six months of hell??? You long term sufferers know what I am talking about.

So I did a TON of studying on Prozac / Fluoxetine and found that this proven drug is the easiest of all the SSRI's as far as side effects and withdrawal. I also read that taking a low dose is just about as effective as taking a normal dose. For example, would you give the same 20 mg. dose to granny as well as Shaquille O' neal?

To give you the best news already: I have finally turned a corner and am starting to feel so so much better, month by month. Prozac has finally reversed this cyclic monthly hell. I had ABSOLUTELY no side effects because I researched and researched and realized I only needed a small small dose. I started at 10 mg. EVERY OTHER DAY. This dose is very low and yet very effective. The usual dose is 20 mg. daily.. which is too much.

My appetite started to slowly come back, my anxiousness went down. My general sense of well being became better and better. Yes of course, the monthly cycles would sometimes pop up once in a while but this time 75% better than before.

So for all of you who like me made the mistake of taking a powerful horomone altering drug Yasmin and still not getting better, you may need to try Prozac because I am proof that it does work. Don't be afraid of withdrawal or side effects because the low dose you need will cause none of these... ask your Doctor. It is not only used for depression because believe me, I never had any depression issues at all, but Yasmin caused my body CHAOS, and no vitamins can really help that kind of mess. Prozac is helping by pushing my horomone system back to it's normal activity as well as helping my digestive system AND my overall well being.

I was just like all of you, coming back month after month because just when I thought I was getting a little better, the bad cycle hit me again like a truck and I thought I would never get better. I avoided Prozac because I thought it was bad and that how can an antidepressent help me? I was wrong, Prozac has been the ONLY thing that has helped my cycle get back on track. Ladies who are still long term sufferers of Post Yasmin hell, read up on Prozac and it's off label uses of treating Pre menstrual dysphoric symtom, as well as digestive treatment.

Also, although SSRI's are all in the same class, they can have very different effects on individuals. For example just because Zoloft didn't agree with you, that doesn't mean Prozac will do the same thing. The ignorant DR. probably gave you too high of a dose as most Doctors do.

The best way of finding out is starting on a low dose. You should see no side effects at all. Well the one side effect that was welcomed was a sense of calm and sleepiness. So much better than the panic attacks...

FYI. I have realized that Yasmin has hit me XTRA hard because Yasmin has a high dose of ESTROGEN, and my body before Yasmin was the opposite... testosterone high! I am ultra fit, love working out and don't possess the typical estrogenic female body, meaning I don't have big breasts or typical softer female features. So being on Yasmin really changed the dynamics of my body.

Again, if any of you have similar symptoms of me and is a classified long term sufferer (6 mos. or more), my sincere advice is to talk to your Doctor about Prozac and give it a shot at a low dose. There should not, I repeat should not be any side effects and you should start to get better month by month.. and this time at a much faster pace.

hi sophie,
sorry to hear you are still suffering so badly, were you on yasmin for long? i was on it for 1.5 years and have been off now for nearly 6 months like you. i think it depends how long you took yasmin and how badly messed up your hormones have become. i'm not sure if i have replied to you before (i think i have ) have you had your thyroid checked? i ask this question of most people who are still feeling bad. your thyroid levels (tsh) should be in between 0.3 - 3.0 .most people feel best around 1 - 1.5. my thyroid was out of whack whilst on yasmin so i had a dose increase (i have hashimoto's) when i had my test 1 month ago it showed that i needed my dose reduced again so bcp's definately can effect thyroid function. thyroxine is afterall a hormone so it is quite likely that it has been effected too. Your periods could be an indication that all is not right with the thyroid. underactive tends to cause depressive feelings, muscle pain and heavy periods and also headaches. yours may be fine but it is worth ruling it out. the previous poster recomended prozac..i know nothing about it or any other anti-depressants as i never took them (apart from a short time on diazepam for my anxiety/panic attacks) but as she says if you are still not finding any relief from your symptoms it might be a route to consider (do rule out the thyroid 1st though). i read many helpful books that helped me learn to handle my anxiety/panic attacks and that has done wonders for me,even if i have a few bad days i KNOW they will get better and i just use what i have learned to work through it,it's not easy, some times are worse than others but i know i am getting better slowly. i hope this will be the case for you and that you will start to see some improvement in your symptoms. with regards to your periods it may be a sign that they are trying to regulate themselves again.mine were 28 days for the 1st 2 cycles but now can be anything up to 38 days apart and are so light they are gone within a day or 2. my periods were always regular as clockwork before i went on yasmin. even after i had my last child and breastfed for a year. as soon as i stopped feeding her my periods came back at 28 days on the dot, then i started taking this rubbish.

best wishes to you sophie.

Hello Sophie,

I am exactly around 6 months also and yes feel the exact same way you do.. like I can't take it anymore... or maybe I should just get back on the bc pills and maybe that might help, etc.

I still suffer from bad digestion and anxiety problems. What is your main problem? For me it's like a total loss of well-being. I really am starting to notice a cycle though.. I seem to get worse right after my period for about a week, then get better (a little), and then worse again. How about you?

I am noticing that as time goes by, it gets a little (a very little) bit better. That to me is the hard part, knowing how slow progression seems to be.

I am trying to fight this with acupuncture, regular walks, spiritual healing (Sukyo Mahikari) and finally Prozac.

Yes, I know how everybody says they refuse to put another medication in their body, and "Oh, I am not depressed, etc" I thought the exact same thing! I was like no way in hell was I going to put another medicine in my body that can give me bad side effects, etc.

BUT, it has already been 6 months and being this ill with all the Doctors telling me they can't find anything... and suffering through each cycle was more than I could bear at that point. I did research and found that Prozac has been prescribed to treat PMDD (Pre menstrual dysphoric disorder) So I thoght if Prozac can help this hormone related issue, maybe it can help mine.

Also, Prozac has been shown to help 60 % of cases of digestion problems, which is exactly what I suffer from. Finally, being this ill for this long... with no answers or salvation is making me depressed anyway, which of course could lead to even more depression brought on symptoms!

Prozac is the best ssri as far as not being hard to withdraw from as it has a 9.3 long half life.

Well, I have been on it for 10 days know, and had ZERO side effects and can actually say that I have been improving a bit. Prozac is not like BCP's and AT LEAST it won't mess up your hormones like Yasmin did. It should help your anxiety, help your digestion issues and maybe knock your body back into the proper rhythm. I was before 100% Against anti depressents, but now I really do recommend it to you all who have been suffering for so long with no resolve. My regular Gastroenterologist recommended as well as my regular Dr. who normally does not like prescribing unnecessarily. He said that Prozac does seem to help a LOT of cases with minimal side effects.

So talk to your doctor and see what he/she says about Prozac. If you are like me and scared about side effects, don't be.. I started SLOWLY, by taking 10 mg. every OTHER day to start off. I had absolutely no side effects this way.

Well, I will continue to post and let everybody know about how Prozac is working, especially during my so called bad cycle.

Take care everybody!

Jen

I have read through all the symptoms. I started Yasmin about a week ago, after having a bad time on dianette.

I now feel worse than I did on Dianette. I mean, is it normal to feel constantly tired ? and my ears feel blocked up my vision blurred and I feel really really weak like iv got no energy.
Im really confused!! I come home from work and go to sleep for 2 hours , wake up for two hours then sleep again and i STILL feel tired the next day! I am also on Prozac but im not sure whats doing this to me > ??ANy ideas> ??

I am so glad I found this page. I have been fighting severe fatigue and depression for the last couple months.(The exact amount of time I have been on this pill!)
I called my gyno and told him about the moodiness, he suggested I take prozac a week before and during my period.
It did not work at all!
I am seeing my gyno tomorrow to switch pills. Does anyone have any suggestions which one to go with?

I was on Yasmin for 17 days, when I decided the side effects were too annoying to continue. My breasts grew almost an entire cup size and hurt badly. I was feeling weepy for no reason. I had occasional leg cramps and stomach cramps/diarrhea. I am on a minimal dose of prozac for depression, so birth control is always tricky with my mood. I just felt in a fog. Sexual libido was nill. I went off of it exactly one week ago. But I still feel weepy for no reason at least once a day. And I still feel overly tired. My libido seems to be coming back, but just not the same yet. Prozac is another possible hinderance on this, but I have been on it for a few years and it never had this effect before.
Has anyone else who went off of Yasmin had continuing side effects/ withdrawal symptoms? I just want to go back to feeling like me again. I suppose it will take maybe one cycle for my hormones to balance out again? Thanks for any input.

Hi Girls,
I've been on Yasmin for 2 weeks and have been experiencing some new changes since taking this pill that have caused me to look online for some advice on side effects. Basically I have been reading through some of the horror stories here and just want to know if I should stop taking this stuff now before its too late! I have had a coil (hormone free) for 2 1/2 years which has been fine , just a couple of painful heavy days during the cycle but otherwise love it. The reason I decided to go on Yasmin was to hopefully help me with PMS symptoms of mild depression, low sex drive, and bloatedness for the 10 days before my period starts. So far it is hard to see whether these symptoms will improve as it is early days. So far I have been bleeding , painfully but not too heavy since I started this pill, I have lost about 10 pounds in weight which is probably the only positive thing and also a very tempting reason for me to stay on it, but the last few days I have felt a bit depressed again and low sex drive and super sensitive about everything, v needy and insecure , plus weak and tired ,not good!
Do you think I should stop now or give it till the end of month?
I did try prozac fo PMT for 6 months last year which really helped but don't want to be hooked on anti depressants for life, even though they kept my weight down too I gained 15 pounds when I came off them.
I have just bought agnus cactus, but is it enough?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
P.S. Anyone thinking of trying the coil to stop babies, I highly recommend it!!

I have only been taking yasmin for about a week now and I have had extreme nausea. The second day I even threw up. I have been sick and not really eating much for the past week either. Not eating at all makes me feel worse, but when I start eating I can't eat hardly anything. I havent noticed an increase in depression, I guess maybe because I am already on prozac. I also havent had a problem with insomnia either YET! I guess I could, I was put on this medicine to regulate my period and decrease cramps. I don't really need it as a birth control so if it keeps doing weird things to my body, Ill probably stop taking it and try a different one.

I have been on yasmin for almost 2 yrs. now. I had my second baby and immediatly started the pill. I had severe anxiety and panic attacks, blamed it on post partum depression and saw a doctor that perscribed me prozac. I took the prozac and didn't feel better. I just thought that I was just completely unhappy with my life. My husband knows that there is something wrong with me, I went from a happy fun and positive person to a miserable witch. I found this site and everything is so true that everyone is saying, and it helps to know that I am not crazy. I really feel bad because I feel like I missed the last 2 years of my kids lives because i have been so miserable, nothing makes me happy! I feel shortness of breath, breast tenderness, anxiety, blurred vision, tiredness, leg cramps and the list goes on!! Thank you for this site I feel such a sense of relief. I just can't get pregnant, any ideas on a new pill for me? micole08@ptd.net
