Hi, ive been on Yasmin now for 1 month and 3 days. A few days after starting it I got a rash on my chest and upper arms which i thought was sparked by the sun/heat. It went away and then a week later my skin slowly started to get itchier and itchier until I was covered in a rash from my ankles to my neck. I looked like I had a weird disease. Even the doctors were impressed, but no one could help. We suspected the pill as it was the only thing that was new to my system, but then it disappeared and we put it down to being caused by stress. Ive just started the next month (like I say 3 days into it) and once again I find myself scratching an feeling basically itchy and very very tired (not that it is unusual the tiredness I have to say, it just seems a little more than normal). I am now pretty sure it is the pill, but am nervous just to stop taking it. I just don't want to go through all that ive just been through with the previous rash, it was HORRENDOUS! Has anyone else had such a severe rash reaction? They were red, itcy spots with a watery kind of top to them........

I posted this as a reply in another discussion group, but thought I'd share here too due to the very serious and potentiall deadly side effect (I think may be a result of taking Yasmin):

I suffered a Pulmonary Embolism on 6/4/08 - was not on Yasmin at the time, but had been for about 2 years (was switched about 3 months before my PE). I am 36 years old, otherwise healthy (am very active and have no other underlying risk factors), and have been on other forms of the pill (on & off, but mostly on) since I was 18 - with no side effects. The more I am reading, the more I'm mad about not being appropriately warned! People seem to keep dismissing the risks of this pill. Yes, millions of women are fine on the pill, but from what I'm reading hundreds of thousands are not. PEs are terrifying and potentially deadly. In case anyone needs it, there is a great on-line support group called ***** and there is a PE suport group on there I found last week - they are wonderful people and have saved me from losing my sanity (lots of panic & anxiety). Recovery from PE is a long, painful and bumpy road, and these people are of immense support. Good luck and good health to all!

after getting my period at normal intervals for the first five months after i quit taking Yasmin, i stopped getting it. has anyone else had this reaction? it's now been three months since i last got it, and in addition i've been experiencing cramps and bloating almost constantly for the past month as though i were about to get my period (though so far i haven't). plus I'm thirsty all the time. does this sound familiar to anyone?

Heart palpitations, dizziness, migraines, fatigue, no sex drive, weight gain, panic attacks. Saw cardiologist was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse however i don't think the doctor ever saw this on my echocardiogram. All of these symptoms appeared after being on yaz for over a year. I am stopping Yaz at the end of this pill pack..any idea how long it will take to get back to normal?

Just reporting back with some information.
I've been off of Yasmin for over a month now. Overall I've been better but there have been a few "relapses" where I've become so dizzy/lightheaded that I hard-core started to panic. Those days can be disheartening.
I've read some previous posts from an RN who said that Yasmin in particular, suppresses your androgens (testosterone) which causes many of these symptoms. This also explains why sometimes it takes a while for these symptoms to "catch up" I know I was feeling great when I first started.
I'm a lot better now that I stopped Yasmin, but I know it's going to take up to six months to get back to normal. Have your doctor check your hormone level. Even if it's " low normal" that isn't healthy for say, a 20, or 30 year old.
For herbal supplements I would suggest Ashwagandha. It's supposed to help production of your androgens. Also keep hydrated and have plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids.
What I also encourage is to talk about your situation. Once you open up, you'll never know who you'll find that had the same issue. We women can be a very helpful resource for one another.
I'll keep you posted on the progress and I hope the best for all of you.

I started to take Yasmin on vacation with a friend. I was excited to get all the benefits that it advertised. A few days after taking Yasmin I had the worst mood swings! I was an entirely different person and would snap at my friend over the slightest things. I literally cried while watching the movie Three Men and a Baby--a movie I've seen many times before and never felt emotional over this cheesy movie! Once I realized it was all due to Yasmin, I stoped taking it and within 2 days was myself again. I never even finished the pack of pills and wouldn't ever try it again.

Good lord..I understand that the pill isn't right for everyone, but it amazes me how long people continue to take something that isn't doing them any good.

I think maybe you all need to consider - The side affects you mention could be because you are a woman!! The following side affects that women search for and try to find answers for are all typical symptoms that I have had all my life as a woman. Whether on birth control, off birth control, pregnant or not. My life circumstance, relationship, age all make a difference. At any given time I could blame these symptoms on "birth control" but I don't think it is that simple.
-anxiety/mood swings/erratic behaviour
-headaches
-weight gain
-cramps, water retention, swelling etc.
Anyway, I suggest you all try to be reasonable and consider other possible causes of your symptoms? Exercise, eating right, relaxation, relationship building, all of these things can eleviate MOST of these symptoms. By the way, been on Aviane and switched to Yasmin, no difference, sex drive is actually increased, feel good not symptoms if anything , better now and had serious cystic acne and is now gone.

I was compelled to write this because of all the negative comments that have been posted. I believe the symptoms people are experiencing are real, but I also believe that they don't happen to every single person who takes Yasmine. People tend to speak out more on the negative than the positive, and that may be part of the reason there's so much bad feedback. I've been on it for two weeks now and haven't had a single side-effect...nothing. Although I wouldn't mind the bigger breasts side-effect. ;) I'm 37 and haven't been on birth control pills in probably 15 years. At the time I started taking this pill, I also quit smoking with the help of Chantix, and still no major mood swings, depression, decreased sex drive, etc. I have very acne prone skin, but it's been MUCH less oily since I started taking Yasmine. I've had some breakouts, but no large cysts. I also started using Retin-A about a month ago and believe the pimples I'm getting now are from that, not the Yasmine. Bottom line, everyone is different, and not all meds work for all people. I would encourage anyone who is concerned about starting Yasmine or wants to come off just because of comments posted here, to think twice and talk to their doctor.

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

I've been taking Yaz for three months and, as much as I'd like to stay on a birth control pill, this one just isn't working. I've been ravenously hungry, and nauseous too. It's been a vicious cycle of eating (to stem the insane cravings), and then vomiting. Yuck. I'm over it. I've read some of the other posts, and I can relate to the need to pee also. I experienced the same diuretic effect, but only for a few weeks during the first pack of pills. I've also had a mild headache nearly every day since I began taking the pill. And I've had sore breasts too. I'm sure there are some girls who can handle Yaz, but I'm not one of them!

There are a lot of negative experiences on here, so I thought I should share my positive one. I have been on birth control off and on for about 6 years. I was on orthotricyclin for the majority of the time-off and on. After getting horrible near migraine headaches on orthotricylin every Friday before my period for about 5 months in a row my doctor and I decided to try a different pill. I was on trilevelin (sp) for 4 months and gained a few pounds and felt easily irritated and emotionally different-just cried easily and not myself. I've been on Yasmin for a month and have had a great experience. I lost the water weight I'd gained and just verified with my boyfriend that my PMS was hardly even there. Everyone is different and has different hormone levels, but so far I am very happy with Yasmin. I've been migraine free tthe whole month!

Girls everywhere . I have one question and please you can reply in private or on here, whatever you like. Did any of the doctors that prescribed Yasmin to you ever give you a hormonal test? I have been going through really bad emotional mood swings for a white but did not have insurance so never really go myself checked out. So last month I went back to my home country and visited a gyno(where medicine is not so overpriced) who has been recommended to me by numerous people and he did a bunch of hormone tests on me concluded (by blood work) that I have a hormonal inbalance. Before the tests were done he obviously asked me a bunch of questions and I warned him that last time i had gone on a losely prescribed birth control(which is was suppose to be very low hormone dosage) I went practically nuts. After seeing my results and finding my inbalance he has prescribed Yasmin to me because apparently I have too much estrogen and other things I couldnt really understand because I am not a doctor but I think one of the things it does is to block some of these hormone from going to your brain. So My point after all this rambling is that ALL of our bodies are different and all birth controls are different and have different hormones which could drive a normal person insane with or without taking the pills SO my suggestion if you are having trouble with Yasmin is to get your hormone levels checked, Yasmin may be the devil to you but its probably because you dot need certain components that are in it or lack some. Get real tests done!

Hi.. I have been researching birth control pills for a while now, as I knew I wanted to take them for acne and irregular periods. The doc gave me yasmin so I narrowed my googling and got a bit of a scare, after all the discussions I've read it almost seems now that it has a life of it's own.. it is a "DEMON PILL" that "RUINS LIVES" and it's "NOT WORTH IT" .................. but as someone who has never been on birth control at all before I'm trying not to be convinced that it will do nothing but make my problems worse, and I think I'd like to put it out there that you only hear the negative in places like this and all potential side effects ARE already listed right in the package. Everyone is different.. so I'll continue to try to read comments by girls who have been on it for as long as me.. So far it's only been a week, but already some girls describe horrific side effects of which I've experienced NONE. Maybe it's mind over matter lol I'm quite determined to have this work for me. Anyway just saying to anyone like me who is reading these.. if it's been prescribed to you don't be afraid to try it just because it didn't work out for someone else, NOT saying horrible side effects don't happen, it's very clear that they do.. but don't let the negative convince you so easily that all of a sudden it's all yasmin's fault that your life sucks.. try believing it might make it better!

I have been on Yaz for 9 days. About a year ago I was on Yasmin and didn't notice any significant changes. In the past year, I haven't been taking BC - but my bf and I decided to try this method of contraceptive. My periods were always fairly short (4 to 5 days) and spaced about 30 to 35 days apart. I also NEVER had cramps or any other symptoms during my period. Well, it's my 9th day on Yaz. My period still has not ended. I have never had my period for this long! Also, for the past 2 to 3 days, I have been experiencing INCREDIBLE cramps. I had to lie down last night I was in so much pain. I am also experiencing mild nausea and horrible dirrhea. I've also gone up a cup size and my breasts are very sore and sensitive. My appetite is horrendous - I feel ravenous! I haven't had the courage to step on a scale, but I am sure that weight gain has occured.
Has anyone else experienced longer periods??
I can't decide whether to stop taking Yaz or wait a month or two to see if the symptoms will clear.

I have been using Yasmin for nearly 3 months now. I switched from Diane to Yasmin because one of my friends advised it. I was actually quite happy with my old pill Diane but nevertheless I thought Yasmin would be better. Oh and she also mentioned that makes your breast grow!!!
The first month of taken Yasmin I had really bad headaches almost everyday but like a subborn cow I kept on taking it. Into the next month I have had a really bad skin rash. Its not really ichy but its red tiny little dots all over my arms, legs and belly/hip area. I am still continpating whether Yasmin is the reason for these side effects but after reading all of these post I now think it is possible that Yasmin is the reason. If anyone out there has had the same problem or can advise me in the right direction please reply to me

hi guys! about four months ago my doctor switched me from ortho tri cyclen lo(which I had been on for two years) to yasmin. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. About a week into the medicine I started getting horrible headaches, terrible anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I was sooo scared from this medicine that I stopped taking it thinking that everything was going to get better! Well wasnt I wrong. I developed OCD really bad to a point where I would sit and worry that I would hurt someone I loved or that I would hurt myself. and I had disturbing thoughts in my head that made my anxiety worse. I have been off the medicine for like 4 months and I am now taking 50 mgs of zoloft for my OCD, anxiety, and depression. I am unsure that it is working yet it's only been two weeks! I hope and pray eveyday that I finally start feeling myself! It's been horrible! Has anyone had this experience from this medicine? and if so do you think that I should get a hormone test, because I am almost convinced from reading other posts that my hormones are wacky! Well thanks for reading! and I hope everyone feels better! :)

I went on Yasmin in late February of 2005. In early April of 2005,I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks. I had experienced a bout with anxiety and panic one other time in my life, but it was 10 years prior to this, and I'd had no trouble since. After having cousneling and working very hard to deal with the anxiety, things got better. However, I still don't feel like the strong, confident woman I was before all the trouble began -- I used to feel like I could do anything and like I was on top of the world. Since I've had anxiety and panic issues, I've had trouble getting to the gym (something I used to do 6 - 7 days a week), and I am fearful of things I was never fearful of before. Anyway, about a week ago, I started thinking back on this whole journey and realized that the anxiety started just about 4 - 6 weeks after taking Yasmin. So I typed in anxiety and yasmin in Google and came across this website -- I have been so surprised to see so many other women struggling with these same issues. I am now off Yasmin (I'm supposed to start a new pack tomorrow, but I will not be) and am very hopeful that I'll return to my former self sometime soon. My husband and I are hoping to have a baby early next year, so I won't be taking any hormone birth control after this -- I don't know if I ever will again.

dear cat..
thats terrible. i've read so many bad things about yasmin. making me wonder if i shouldn't get my girlfriend off the stuff. apparently it is very effective but all the things ive read up about it arent really worth it. funny thing is my girlfriend is paranoid as well. more so than usual (as she tends to worry alot). and her paranoia obviously gets me paranoid as well. Thank you very much for your reply. its almost relieving to know that their are similar cases. medication does affect everyone differently. maybe its just the yasmin messing with her body with all these pregnancy symptoms. maybe not. i cant say for sure until she gets the tests done. i hope all gets sorted with you. Thanks again

Hi! Thanks so much for your informative post. I had no idea prozac was used this way as well and will definitely read up on it as you suggested. Your story is intriguing to me because you describe my situation pretty closely, and confirmed what I had felt all along, that my testosterone had fallen and that estrogen had taken over (even if my estrogen was registering a normal level it was still too high because I did not have the testosterone levels to balance it). Did your doctor confirm these findings with you? I had the same annoying stomach problems and just when I thought things were getting better again, I would feel bad again. However at my six month mark, I did feel some improvement, maybe a little more than the 1% you were describing, but not completely, so I tried to restart my old pill I took for 12 years with no problems before I took the yasmin, and at first I felt pretty good and things really started to feel normal, but then about 12 days into it I started with the anxiety again and stopped taking them immediately about day 15 and all my symptoms seemed to start over from scratch just like after I quit the yasmin. (I really wanted to die at this point), but now 4 months after that episode I feel like I may be progressing again, but it is like you said, back and forth. And all along I have been testing my hormones monthly, I was starting to see my testosterone come up when I was starting to feel better, but when I tried to take that pill again it fell again (I could feel it, I knew even before the results came back) But I want to know, did your doctor confirm your hormones with lab tests? I will definitely read up on the prozac, as I had not heard of it used in this way. Your right though, that is a pretty low dose. Also, I was just wondering did your doctor ever suggest hormonal replacement with bioidentical hormones?
Thanks for your post and in advance for your reply.
Sincerely, BitterRN

hi ladies, sorry if this post comes up twice but my pc crashed so i have no idea if it added my last post or not!.

eryka.
yes it is quite common to feel ok for the 1st 3 months then start to feel a little worse again, this is due (i think) to your body switching from the synthetic supply of hormones to it's own natural supply,so it seems like you get a double whammy of hormones for a while. it will settle down again once all the synthetic hormones have been used up and your own hormones take over running the show again.it will happen so keep up with the supplements and have faith in your body.

hi sophie,thanks for your reply.
i also get a sore throat frequently, nothing seems to soothe it. mine seems to come in the 2 weeks before my period.

j.
yes i do still get chest pain even after 8 months. i did have an ECG a while back but everything was fine.i may have another just to make sure. i have been told over and over that all my symptoms are due to anxiety. i also get a feeling of being smothered sometimes like a can't get a full breath but it passes quite quickly thankfully. if you are worried then please get checked over.if you are told it is anxiety ask them to explain what happens during an anxiety attack to cause the pain.it may put your mind at rest if you know what is happening and why and also what the effects are.

Hello everybody.
I am hoping that somebody here will be able to answer my question.
I have also had terrible problems after taking yasmin for 4 years. I stopped taking it about 9 months ago. I have gradually been feeling better but have been undergoing hormone testing because of terrible pms and a short cycle.
I had my first hormone testing done at the beginning of this cycle. It was done on day 3 and all the results were normal. However the second part of the test was done on day 7 after i ovulated. This test was for progesterone and estradiol. I got the results today. The progesterone level is 37 and estradiol level is 257.
I spoke to the nurse at the practice and she said they were low. I wont have an appointment with the doctor to discuss the results until next week. When i look it up on the internet i cannot get any definite answers as to what this means.
I hope there is somebody here that can help me.
I am afraid i have been left with some permanent damage after yasmin.
I dread to think what this means.
Does anybody know.
Please reply if you can help me as right now i feel i have gone back to the days immediately after stopping yasmin.
Thanks in advance

hiya silke

ive just read your posts.
im so, so sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.

i,m sorry i cant be any help as i dont understand why this is happening to any of us. all the knowledge i have has come from other ladies on this site and especially from you.
i thank you so much for that!

all that i can say is that be very strong. remember i had only been taking it for one year and feel awful most of the time and have only been of it for nearly seven months, but you had been taking it for 5 years so its probably just going to take a while longer for your body to get back to mormal.

please try and be calm and try not to think about it to much, keep telling yourself that you ARE going to get through this, just like you kept telling me silke, remember!

you have been a godsend for me and all the other women on this site, believe me!

you have been there for me and if i can be of any help to you. please let me know

god bless you silke, i really hope you are better soon
remember! STAY STRONG!!!!

to any other ladies out there who have been on the yasmin as long as silke, please please reply to her . she really needs you!!

Hi to all and in reply to the guest poster who asked how long it takes the cycle to get back to normal. Well my story is that i have been off it now for 8 months and still not having a regular cycle. my cycle is now 24 days instead of 28. Am in the process of having my hormone levels checked and so far everything looks good. I was on yasmin for 4 years though. So it had plenty of time to mess up my system. for the first few weeks after stopping yasmin i was all over the place as regards my cycle. Never knew when i was due because there was no pattern. Now it seems to be settling down. But don`t worry because it will settle down. It just takes some time for the damage to be put right. Take it easy and try to relax. At least you are off it now before too much damage has been done. I wish you and everyone else here the best of luck.

hi eryka,
please don't feel ashamed of your thoughts, most of us that have suffered anxiety either induced by this pill or otherwise have had these awful scary thoughts. the post below this reply makes some very valid points! i too was terrified of being around knives or scissors,i thought i may hurt myself or my children,i kept thinking if the knife slipped and i hurt myself i would have to go to the hospital and they might section me because they might think i was mad. i also had really scary thoughts about harming my children or that someone else would harm them, crazy things like someone would grab the baby pram and throw it over the balcony in the shopping centre. so as you can tell i know exactly how you felt. i also think that these thoughts appear both to do with low seratonin levels and also the fear that you are going to lose control and do something awful, this in effect would be your worst nightmare and something you would never do so cannot understand where these alien thought patterns come from. i don't even like smacking my childrens bottoms if they are really really naughty let alone do some of the awful things that my brain came up with. the previous post is also correct in saying that if you were truly crazy you would not know a thing about it and certainly would not worry about it! whenever i have a scary thought (which thankfully is really rare now!) i physically tell myself not to be so silly,i would never do that or that would never happen then i will purposly think of a really nice happy thought. please feel free to post again if you need any more help or support or post your email and i will be happy to try to help you,i have been off yasmin for 6 months nearly and am doing really well now,i still have the odd day thats not so good but i know i am not crazy and i will get better.
best wishes to you eryka,i hope my reply will help you feel a little better.

Twogirlsmom: Thank you so much for your reply! You and everyone else are a great source of comfort.

Another question--if I only noticed the anxiety effects of Yasmin the last month that I took it, does that mean my recovery may be a bit shorter than the women who noticed the anxiety, panic and depression for many months before realizing it was Yasmin?

Also, how do we convince people that this is all true? I know in my heart that Yasmin is the reason I am going through this, but the bitchy nurse at my doctor's office refused to believe me and said that all the effects should be gone in a few weeks, therefore implying that any anxiety and depression after that time period is actually MY problem. I was not like this before Yasmin, I swear! I feel like my personality has been stripped from me. I mentioned to the nurse that there are MANY websites out there that have women writing in and talking about Yasmin, and she scoffed and said that you cannot always believe the internet. It is so frusterating because on the pill pack it says to talk to your doctor if you have any adverse side effects, but when we do talk to our health care professionals, no one believes us!

I am 39yrs so i decided to visit my gp. to change my birth control pill (conova) he recommend that i use Yasmin i started the Yasmin in June of this year approximately one month after taking the yasmin i realised i got nervous scared that i would faint i dont want to be around anyone the nervousness was the worst . I decided to revisit my gp. and i told him in detail how i felt, he said i am suffering from panic attack/anxiety attack he recommended lexotan i still had that same feeling when i didnt take the medication i didnt want to get hooked on it ,so i decided to revisit him a week later i told him i noticed this happening since i took the yasmin his reply was no that cannot affect you that way you are under serious stress thhats the cause of your attack. that day i went to 3 different doctors they all had the same to say I did thyroid test and all other blood test they all showed normal I also try a herbalist doctor he told me the same and he gave me other herbal medication for this panic attack. i got no relief so decided to search the internet and learn about panic attack . I was not satisfied so i continued to do further search until i found your site i have learnt alot and i think it is the yasmin causing these attack i had one this morning i took a lexotan it calmed me down but from yesterday i decide to stop the yasmin I also made an appointment with my gyno. so he can recommend some thing for me probably the coil. thank you very much i have learnt alot . may god bless each and everyone of you who have given me hope.

hiya all, silke,

today is the 6th day after my period and i feel awful.
i have had the worst pain in the back of my head and neck since my period has started till now (14 days), its really bad and i am starting to question myself that is it the pill that has caused this or is something else wrong with my brain/head.

i have been of the yasmin for about 4months and 2 weeks, my periods have been regular since coming of the yasmin.

the head pain was reall bad when i first stopped especially on my period but then it gradually began to get better every month but this period has been the worst, the pain will just not go away.

i went to my gp twice this week and he has prescribed me with a antidepressant called "amitriptyline hydrochloride" anyone heard of this??

he told me that it is not addictive but is used nowadays for the treatment of migraines. Im too scared to take this and dont think i will, i dont want no more problems or side effects.

my gp has also referred me to see a neurologist to check my head out. im so scared what if somethings wrong with my head.

Another problem ive had is focusing. anybody else had this problem?? i feel as though somethings wrong with my eyes.

please please reply if anybody else has suffered with this type of head/eye pain

silke i especially hope your doing fine after the good news you gave us last week. i hope that it wasnt too tough for you on your cycle or after it.

thankyou all and god bless you

silke i feel as though i cant focus with my eyes properly, did you get this too??

i have to admit i did go for a bit of a run today maybe this could have caused it. i feel as though i have no energy.

i hate this tablet it gets me so upset, i used to be so active, in yhe gym 4 times a week and now im too tired and scared to workout. my head feels funny if i do anything to strenous now. its awful.

please reply if anybody else has had any of these problems pleazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

hi justme. thanks for ur reply. i too have the same thing. sometimes i hear a click when i gulp.

yes i did go to a GI specialist. had a upper GI series done too which was normal. so GI thought that the problem is not acid reflux. also i feel better if i take steam and use nasonex spray. still was prescribed prevacid for abt 20 days or so and then later was told to switch to pepcid 40 mg daily which i have been now taking for abt 3 months. after i stopped yasmin the sore throat got better but everytime period is due it comes back.
family doctor told me that the throat lining becomes swollen before periods due to estrogen and fluid retention. so have to cut down on salty foods before periods r due.

thanks for ur reply. helps to know that i am not the only one on this forum who keeps on asking about sore throat :)

I wanted to reply to Samp--did you go to an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist regarding your chronic sore throat? I, too, had a terrible non-stop sore throat that began within 2 months of starting Yasmin--I was finally diagnosed by the ear/nose doc as having acid reflux disease--which believe me I had NEVER had any trouble with prior to taking this rotten drug. I began medication and the condition cleared up (the sore throat part went away fairly rapidly but the damage from the reflux took longer to heal completely). I am not on meds now for it and have not had a recurrence.

I took Yasmin for 3 months--was chronically ill (got every cold that came to town), depressed, anxious, racing heart, palpitations, unbelievably high blood pressre, and convinced I was having serious heart trouble (even ended up in the ER once!)---I FIRMLY BELIEVE ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS WERE A DIRECT RESULT OF TAKING YASMIN. I have been off of it a year now and am mostly back to normal with the exception of blood pressure which is still slowly coming back down to my normal of 120/70. I'm currently in the 130's for the top number, down from the 160's while on that damn pill. The blood pressure jumped from 120's before Yasmin to the 160's in the first month!!!!! This pill is dangerous.

My ear/nose guy believes the reflux was indeed related to the Yasmin--please get checked for reflux as if it is left untreated you can end up with scarring in your esophagus. I wish you all the best and would be very interested in anyone's experiences regarding changes in blood pressure.

hi there bitter rn and others

im 7 days pre-yasmin but i can,t really call it that because its my seven day break. i took my last pill last sunday and was due to start my new pack monday so i guees thats when the real test starts, as my body will be expecting it.

also i have been suffering from real bad migraines continously this 7 day break but today i have noticed SHARP, SHOOTING PAINS IN MY HEAD, IS THIS NORMAL ANYBODY?????

My dr has prescribed me with a ant-depressant called CITALOPRAM HYDROBROMIDE 20MG DAILY, i told him that i would wait 2 months and if i feel like the anxiety was too bad to handle myself i would only then take it. i just hope i am strong enough to cope on my own without any kind of medication.

however i am thinking of taking homeopathic treatment to regulate my periods and get rid of the cysts on my ovaries, maybe this will control my anxiety after all its the hormone imbalance that causes the anxiety and depression, ISNT IT????
WHAT DO YOU THINK?????????

ANYBODY ELSE HAD THE SHOOTING PAINS IN THE HEAD AFTER STOPPING YASMIN, AND HOW LONG AFTER STOPPING DID THEY GO AWAY?????
PLEASE REPLY!!!!!!!

I DON,T FEEL DEPRESSED TODAY , JUST THE HEAD PAIN REALLY.
IM REALLY SCARED WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID PRE-YASMIN I HOPE I,M STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT, IM SUCH A SENSITIVE PERSON WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN WEAK-MINDED
WELL I GUESS I HAVE TO BE STRONG AND SEE WHAT LIES AHEAD AND HOPEFULLY I,LL BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT WITHOUT THE ANTI-DEPRESSANTS.

THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS POSTED THEIR EXPERIENCES ON YASMIN I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER KNOWING THAT IT WAS THE PIL AND NOT MY MIND GOING CRAZY

ANY REPLIES WOULD BE APPRECIATED GREATLY

THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN

I have been on Yasmin for 5 months. I'm 19, and decided to start taking the pill for both contraception and my bad acne, which I've had my entire teenage life. Throughout my 5 months I have suffered with a variety of side effects, including nausea, migraines (which I'd never had in my life before), leg and feet cramping, crying a lot - depression, tender and swollen breasts, vaginal dryness and worst of all a decreased sex drive. Has anyone else suffered from this? It's been so bad that Yasmin has been a contraceptive in a way I never expected. And this took me a while to realise, because being only 19 and very sexually inexperienced, I wasn't really sure what my normal sex drive should be.
I have therefore decided, to stop taking Yasmin, and allow my body to get back to normal. I was also wondering how long it would take? And if there is any kind of detox diet I could do, to get this awful chemical out my body.
The only positive thing Yasmin has done, is it's cleared up my acne and regulated my previously irregular period.
But, I'd rather have spotty skin and a sex drive any day. Yasmin is an awful pill, I just can't believe how glorified drs seem to make it seem. Someone needs to do something, people need to know, what risk they are really putting their bodies at when they take this thing.
Please reply.

Silke-

Thank you so much for your reply. It's encouraging. I wish there was a way to know what may be available here in the states thats a natural remedy for anxiety. I looked up the 'baldrian' on the internet and every site was in German. I may call a health food store here and see if there is anything equivalent.

I ended up taking the Xanax and I must admit for the first time in weeks; if only for a few hours that it may last I feel like ME again. I am very laid back and care-free. I guess after getting to this feeling of normalcy from a pill I guess I can see how people can become addicted to them. I plan to NOT get that way and I am going to soak up every bit of the relaxed demeanor I am experiencing right now.

My e-mail address is ******

Incidently, how long did you take Yasmin prior to getting off of it? I was on it for only 3 months.

Thank you again for your reply.

twogirlsmom & Others-

Thanks for your reply. I wish I could take an antidepressant but the last time I did I spent an entire day with severe suicidal thoughts. It was horrific. It also made me feel soooo sick. It was Zoloft. The doc then wanted me to wait a week and try Wellbutrin or Sarafem but I declined both. After my Zoloft experience I am terrified of antidepressants. I have taken Xanax before with moderate success so I may ask for that again.

Yesterday morning I was in such panic mode I didn't think I was going to make it through the day. By late evening I came back around a little and felt better; however here we go again this morning. My heart is beating out of my chest and I can feel the fear rising.

I called my RE's office yesterday and spoke to the nurse and told her of my panic problems and bcps. She asked which ones I had taken in the past so I gave her my laundry list of meds. She then offered up some mini pills or the patch etc to which I kindly declined and burst into tears. I feel like nobody understands why I am feeling this way and that I just need to never take bcps again. The nurse set up and appt with my RE to discuss other options such as an IUD, tubal ligation (I am not open to that option though our family is complete).

Another thing that I have noticed in reading these latest posts is there seems to be some relation with symptoms turning bad around the 3 month mark; like the anxiety appears around that time. I know it's not like that for everyone but i can see a bit of a pattern forming. I am on month 3 myself and ready to burn this pack. I am done with Yasmin & the rest of them.

hey Gwen...

i just read your posting about yasmin... i was on it for 1 month only and to answer your question yes my breasts went up a whole bra size!!! they were huge!!! but they were very sore too.... and it only took a week for them to get bigger... i ended up having to get off yasmin and suffered bad side effects like heart palpitations and anxiety. when i got off yasmin within two weeks my breasts were bad to their original size so they didnt stay big...
please read the postings on this website and the side effects of this pill because it maybe give you big breasts which is great but at the end of the day there are much worse things than having little breasts.
please take my advice and read the postings..

lots of luck to you, if you need more advice dont hesitate to reply to me ok

I am new to this site and thank God I found it. Now I don't feel like I am alone anymore. I have been taking Yasmin for 2 1/2 years now and dealing with this "new self". I stopped taking Yasmin 2 days ago (before I found this site) and last night I woke up to a pool of blood in my bed. I stopped taking Yasim in the middle of the pack because I was having severe headaches and had practically ruled out everything except my birth control. So, once I saw the blood, I was scared - but I assumed it was my 2nd period since I stopped in the middle of the pack. Did anyone have this happen to them when they stopped Yasmin???
My side effects have pretty much been the same as everyone else's - severe headaches, depression, not feeling like I am worth very much, I haven't been able to keep focused, very low sex drive, bitchy, bitchy, bitchy - and I could go on. It has been a terrible 2 1/2 years and I can't believe it has taken me this long to figure out what was wrong with me. I am dumbfounded... But I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel - as long as these symptoms go away.
Has there not been any lawsuits or action with Yasmin to make other women aware of what this can do to them? I am willing to make an effort if someone could lead me in the right direction. Yasmin is scary and has terrible side effects. No one should have to go through what we all have been through.
Please reply and I will keep you updated on my progress.
