I was put on Yaz (same as Yasmin but with a smaller estrogen dose) due to irregular periods and a presumed hormonal imbalance. That was in September '07. Four month later, on Jan 1, '08, I went to the ER with breathing difficulties, and weakness in my arms and legs. I had been having muscle cramps/ charley horses in my right calf, but that was the only other health problem I had experienced. I thought I was having an asthma attack. So did the ER - at first. After I did not respond to the breathing treatments, and I became completely out of breath and exhausted after walking across the hall to the restroom, the ER doc checked my D-Dimer level to see if I was at risk for blood clots. He said if it came back over 500, he would have to do further testing for clots. It came back 4500!! I was sent immediately down for a CT Scan which showed mulitple clots in both lungs, mostly small, but several of significant size. I was immediately put on oxygen and a heart monitor, and an IV drip of heparin was started. I was in the hospital for 4 days, had to learn to give myself shots of Lovenol in my stomach until my pill form of blood thinner had time to kick in. I am now taking Coumadin blood thinner every day until July, when my D-Dimer will be checked again. Depending on the results, I may come off the Coumadin, or I may have to commit to it for 3 years. However, I was tested for all the hereditary blood clotting disorders and all came back negative, so my doctor feels as though the cause has to be the YAZ! Everyone tells me I was very lucky and that I could have easily died, especially when I was just thinking I was having an asthma attack and put off going to the ER for a few days. If you are taking Yaz or Yasmin, and you begin to have difficulty breathing, any kind of leg cramps, weakness, or tightness in your chest (I had also been having severe heart burn) - go have yourself checked out!!!!!

please help!!!
I have been on Yasmine for almost nine months, I am 22 yrs old and had my first anxiety attack two months after taking it. I was a normal, out going, FUN person and then all of a sudden I changed. I didn't know the cause until last week when I found this web site. My doctor put me on Lexapro three weeks ago for the anxiety and I still haven't felt better. I did have a really rough year, with the death of my bestfriend who was also my cousin, and I had some major family issue's with addiction. I figured my symptoms were do to a tough year. In finding this web site I realize there are others out there with the same problems. I would like to know if there are others out there with stomach trouble. My doctor told me I have IBS, which is a common problem in women but my anxiety seems to be causing it. With the anxiety comes the stomach aches. I worry about not getting to the restroom. I cause the stomach aches because of my anxiety and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. Proir to taking yasmin I would go camping, out to dinner and to any social function without a worry. Now it's hard for me to leave the house.
I need to find a new B/C, I have been off Yasmin for 3 days. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.
Thank you!!!

I started taking Yasmin four months ago. I've been on and off the pill for YEARS and other than Yasmin, I've only taken Ortho Novum. My only issues with Ortho Novum were breast tenderness, weight gain and my boobs got bigger by at least 1/2 a cup size. Ok, to many of you and my boyfriend, what's the problem? But when you've already been breast blessed, you don't need any help from a BCP.

After the first week on Yasmin, I thought I better look into the side effects because I was having some serious irritable bowel. Read lots on this site about women who had similar experiences. I won't go so far to say no one should take this pill or it should come off the market, but for me, this pill is not right. It hasn't helped acne really and the biggest side effect for me is raging, unpredictible, and painful moments of extreme bowel discomfort. That's the clean version. The first week of the first month was bad, but then no reoccurance. The next month was only a day or two near the end. The third month was back to the same I expeienced in month one. I decided I'd give it a try for one more month, but into my second week now and still have had a couple of episodes. I'm a healthy woman, I've not changed my diet at all or my exercise routine. The only thing that has changed in my life is the addition of Yasmin. Even if these symptoms were to start to subside, I'm so nervous and anxious about being more than 20 feet from a restroom within 2 hrs of taking my pill that I don't think I can continue with this. I keep pepto in my drawer at work and in my purse at all times. That's a crazy way to live just for a BCP. So I'm going to try something else. Good luck to the rest of you.

It is 3:19am and I am posting to a forum about my birth control pill!? I think that has to be a side effect! I have read these posts about those of you who have been on this Pill for years and wonder how you have survived!!! I am on day 6 and feel like I could die. I have never had a cramp a day in my life, kidney stones felt better than the cramping I am having. I get sporatic shooting pains through my thighs, my ankles are swelling (and I'm on prescription water pill), I have lost 20 lbs in 2 months from dieting, I have lost an additional 4lbs in 5 days because I can not stay out of the bathroom. I feel like I can't lead a normal life because I have to have a restroom nearby, I never know when I will have to vomit or have diahrea. My 5 yr old daughter had 14 inches of hair cut off Monday and I couldn't even drive her the 2 miles to my sister's house to show her because I was so nauseous!
With each night my sleep has become shorter and shorter and replaced with restlessness! I am 34 yrs old and my tubes are tied, I am on the pill because I have 3 cysts on my right ovary. My Ob wants me to stop ovulating to ease the pain from the cysts, I would much rather go back to that pain rather than experience this! Heck yank the parts out, I don't need them! I was going to give this pill a month, then I said oh ok, I'll give it a week and maybe I'll adjust....I will be calling the Dr in the morning! I took a different pill 17 yrs ago and had no problems, I originally chalked these side effects up to the fact that this is a whole lifetime later. I am so thankful that so many of you have posted so I know it's not my age or my body adjusting!

I only started yasmin 8 days ago. I got on it because I've read in several places that it prevents weight gain. Since the second day, I have noticed a number of terrible side effects.

1. Increased break outs

2. EXTREME moodswings - 1/2 of the time I have suicidal thoughts, angry at everything and everyone, always on the verge of tears, etc.. and the other 1/2 I'm on cloud 9!

3. Increased appetite - I can't get enough sugar, and the usual 'after period = no appetite' thing was completely reversed.

4. Leg cramps

5. Vaginal dryness

6. Decreased sex drive

7. Increased Anxiety

8. Always thirsty

9. Constantly have to use the restroom

10. Terrible gas

After reading all of these postings on how bad Yasmin can be for MOST women, I'm coming off as soon as I can. I feel much better knowing that the mood swings I've been experiencing have been probably because of Yasmin.

Does anyone know what will happen if I stop the pill 8 days after my last period? Will I have my period all over again?

Thanks-
Sandi

I have been on Yasmin for about 6 months. I feel pretty much normal now. I was prescribed Yasmin for severe PMS. The only negative thing that has changed since I took it is that I get indigestion or gas easily now so I have to watch what I eat. That was never a concern before, and I never linked it to the pill but several others on this discussion board have mentioned that, so I made the connection today.
One thing I noticed is that most people posting here are posting about the drug on their first month and that is when your body goes through the most hormonal changes. So I'm not sure about judging yasmin from those posts.

Let's see, some people want to know how other body types have dealt with it.
I am 5'1 105 lbs D cup and everything has stayed the same. At first I lost about 5 pounds and had to run to the restroom any time I drank a sip of water but I am pretty normal now.
I felt very nervous about it the first 9 weeks because it was my first BCP. I was prescribed 3 packs in a row at first without the white pills and then went on to taking the normal dosage. During this time I had lots of spotting, but I think that was my body adjusting to the new 'schedule'. Now I have shorter periods than before and do not have extreme pms symptoms like before Yasmin. I am staying on it because this minor stuff is way better than vomiting and fainting and shaking every month.
