I have just started taking Yasmin TWO DAYS AGO at six in the night. I have already suffered from nausea. I went to bed feeling nauseated the second night hoping it would go away.....it didn't. I got up in the wee hours of the morning with the sensation to throw up. I eventually threw up, this relieved me somewhat. But i was still not at 100%. I have taken Microbal while breastfeeding and have had no side effects and just two days of taking Yasmin i'm already feeling some of the COMMON SYMPTOMS AS DESCRIBED BY MANUFACTURERS OF YASMIN. How can they expect someone to function while feeling nauseous. They have statd that the symptoms may subside after three months but i can't wait the long to feel better. it's no worth it even though this pill claims to have other benefits such as acne prevention. I am 28 years old and have always had terrible PMS, maybe could be considered PMDD, and I decided to try birth control pills for the first time in my life to help regulate it. My doctor prescribed Yasmin, and I took them for less than two weeks before I stopped. In that time, my face and back broke out in pimples worse than I've had in 15 years, I was so depressed, I saw the world differently. I cried uncontrollably when I listened to the news, I felt utterly helpless. I lost my sex drive completely, and saw my relationships in hopeless, negative terms. I had a sensation in my head that made me feel like banging it on the ground, and I understood what might make someone shoot themselves in the head - it was HORRIBLE! And scary, and I have never felt like that before. I bled a mysterious, odorless brown liquid the entire time. I've been off Yasmin for 2 weeks and still feel nauseous and tired but as soon as I stopped, felt instantly lifted and better. And it was expensive - it would have been sixty dollars a month. Of all my friends and family, only one said to stop taking it immediately, and I'm grateful to have listened to her. It's amazing that such a tiny little pill can have such a huge negative impact. The only thing I learned is synthetic hormones are bad for your body!!

I have been using Yasmin for approximately 4 -5 months and am starting to wonder whether Yasmin is the reason behind my state of feeling unwell. I mean, we all lead active lives, but i have never felt so fatigued and like i need to have a little cap nap every afternoon.

I went to the doctors on Monday because i have been really concerned about the pins and needles feeling that i have been constantly getting, fatigued muscles (even when i haven't exercised) and the intense hot flushes.

Prior to Yasmin I was on Loette and about 2 years ago I was on Diane for a short period of time, having to get off it as it made me so emotional.

My doctor told me to skip the sugar pills for 2 months to see if the hot flushes subside... I'm just thinking i want to get off Yasmin all together because the pins and needles are quite a horrible sensation to have. Especially when I am exercising.

I can't believe I have found this site!!! I have been having horrendous but very petty arguments with my boyfriend just lately, to the point I do not know if we are over as he is only speaking to me in a temper voice. Obviously I believe eveything is his fault(!) and now after reading the site I am wondering if it is all actually me and down to my pill, yasmin, as everything I have read about everyones mood swings rings true! I am almost 3 months in and have been experiencing headaches for the first time in my life and I thought it was just one of those things. My breasts are nearly up a whole size and I have become really really self conscious which I have also never been like before and few of my clothes appear to fit. I have also recently visited the Dr's with dizziness which I actually put down to Jasmin although she said it couldn't possibly be the pill and put it down to a dodgy eardrum which she thinks I have - also I believe I have become increasingly deaf... could that be the pill too or am I now blaming everything that is going wrong in my life on that one tiny little tablet????
I am going to book an appointment with my Dr for tonight but am really conscious that I am going to burst into tears the moment I walk into the surgery - is this the table or because of the rows with my boyfriend? (Like the chicken and egg!)
I have been on Dianette for years and have never experienced any problems - surely it can't be that bad, can it?????

I was proscribed Yasmin for acne problems but straight away, I experienced nausea. I didn't take a liking to it at all because it constantly made me want to vomit all the time. But still, I was willing to trial it to treat my acne. After about a month of using it, the vomiting sensation didn't go away. Does anyone else experience the same problem? Finally, I gave it up altogether and switched to Diane35. I found Diane35 a much better treatment for acne without the vomiting side affects.

hi all,
quest 36376, i am not sure what the verification email thing is all about, please try to register again it may just be a glitch,i will look into it for you.
i think some of the ladies have gone straight onto other pills but not sure which. i had an email from a lady the other day saying that she was put onto a high dose pill after yasmin as her Dr said yasmin had messed up her system by dropping her hormones too low.she said she felt fantastic on the older higher dose pill. may be something to research???

guest 36377,
i have no medical training at all just my own personal experience. i only had an ecg,my docotr agreed to do it after much pestering,i was sat at my pc one day when i felt really light headed and my vision went,my heart started to race then flop about in my chest like jelly,i seriously thought i was about to die! the nurse rigged up my ecg and she saw something (to this day i have no idea what) and she went to get my Gp who took a look at the tracing and just said it was just anxiety nothing to worry about and he sent me on my way. i find the flopping sensation and the palpitations are worse when i am tired or if i eat anything really sweet or if i have to many carbs. the chest pain comes along a day or 2 before my period and feels almost like i have been punched or have a cracked rib, sometimes i cannot get a full breath if that makes sense. i take a daily supplemet of magnesium, vitamin b6,b12 and zinc as well as calcium. calcium can be very good for the heart and muscles. i had chest pain when i was on yasmin,it was a stabbing sensation, now it is just a dull ache a couple of days a month. i have been off yasmin for 8 months. hope that helps a little. please try not to worry too much, i know it is scary but stress will make your heart beat more irregular.

guest 36378.
thank-you so much for your kind words,i hope that the new forum will be of great help to all ladies who want to post there and share their experience. we are yasmin survivors because we are looking for answers and we are fighting back!

best wishes to you all.

hi guest 36095.
i also still get chest pains,i have been off yasmin for 8 months. i only seem to get them either around ovulation or menstruation but it feels like someone is sitting on my chest or like i have broken my ribs or something. i also get a sensation of not being able to get enough air sometimes. these sensations are linked to hormone imbalances and hopefully they like all the other wierd and not so wonderfull symptoms will go away.

Sarah, Sophie,

Tonight, when I laid down, and on a few other occassions, I have this really heavy feeling like its hard to breathe as if someone were sitting on my chest? Is this like either of your sensations? This follows this fluttery aching squeezing sensation I've had since yesterday morning...

Any other ladies out there who have developed this problem?

I can't believe this-the acid reflux, the plugged up achey ears, and now this chest pain (last 6 months)/been off of Yasmin for 2 months....went onto Orthocept but I think I just have to get off of all bcp's.

SARAH-
You really do still have chest pains after 8 months of being off of Yasmin? And an irregular heartbeat? Its so strange that several women are complaining of this. Its onset must definately be related to Yasmin...Just today, I laid down because I've had this constant ache/squeezing sensation under my left breast which feels like it moves back and fourth across my chest. I have read so much that suggests these symptoms are linked to risk of heart attack and stroke? I'm almost livid that your Doctor just told you it was anxiety. I have now read so much with so many people saying that is what their Doctor told them and my RN suggested the same when I knew all these symptoms were related to the Yasmin. Did you ever have EKG or ECG or XRAY?

SOPHIE-Acid reflux? You know what blew my mind...two years ago, not long into starting on this pill-I had an upper GI done for acid reflux and discovered I had hiatal hernia! Never until reading other women talking about it that Yasmin could also now be linked to this? And now severe chest pains? Does it feel like squeezing sensation? How old are you may I ask?

How can the chest pains just be anxiety? I know a few people who landed in the emergency room following chest pains to just discover that it was anxiety but this has now been going on long enough on and off that it sounds more like un-stable angina or something else-at least in my case. I have to go and get this checked out. Please let me know if/what any tests you have had?

Many many thanks. j

hi yasmin researcher.
as i mentioned in a previous post i have the same problem with my ears, sometimes it can last days at a time without clearing. my ears first blocked up in august 2005 and have stayed that way up until now. i have been off yasmin for coming on 8 months now. when i looked up my symptoms they lead to a blocked eustacious tube. i have tried everything to clear them but nothing has worked. i am just hoping that it will correct itself in time. you also asked about irregular heart beats..... i have had this ever since i was put on yasmin in jan 2005. i would get it mainly at night where my heart would slow right down, miss a couple of beats then start banging and jumping around then it would race. i still get it now although not as badly now i am off yasmin but i still get what can only be described as a floppy sensation like a lump of jelly wobbling about in my chest. when i saw my gp initially back in 2005 they did an ecg but said all was ok. then when it got worse my gp said it was due to an anxiety disorder (that was what i was diagnosed with when all my anxiety symptoms appreared) as i said i still have irregular heartbeats most days but i am so reluctant to go back to my gp because they diagnosed me with this anxiety disorder thingy they will not even consider the possibility that yasmin caused this so whenever i go to see them now they just assume anything that is wrong with me is all in my head and that i am worrying about nothing and i just can't stand that reaction as i know i do not have an anxiety disorder, the fact that i have improved vastly since i came off yasmin proves that.....but not to my gp. i suppose i really should put my pride behind me to get my heart checked again just in case.
i have asked in a previous post for all ladies in the uk to report yasmin (have typed the web address so if you have not already done it please look up the post and complain about this drug!)
best wishes to you all ladies.

I took Yasmin for the last 2.5 years. Over time, I came to recognize major side effects that I am still very concerned about to include: Popping of eardrums. Exhaustion. Sensation of paralysis following taking it and lying down. Constant running to the bathroom to urinate (due to droperinone which acts as a diuretic), developed heart murmur and pain across my chest (squeezing sensations). Major change in vision in the right eye within 6 months. Painful pressure in both ears due to this pills increase of potassium in your body. Ears would pop for two hours after I took the pill.

I have been off of Yasmin for 2 months, initially went onto its sister/cousin Yaz and felt just as terrible so I went off of that as well.

A Hearing Aide doctor actually told me that oral contraceptives have been known for a long time to be "odo-toxic". Which means-toxic to the inner ear. How come prescribing Gynecologists, Doctors and pharmacists don't know this?

The synthethic hormone in YASMIN AND YAZ -dirosperone increases potassium levels in the body. Inner ear is composed of a potassium and sodium fluid. An inbalance in this fluid would likely cause pressure in the ear. I had to learn the majority of this information from people other than the prescribing doctor, an RN or the pharmacist.

I started taking this pill upon recommendation of a highly reputable Medical Doctor in January of 2004. At first, I thought highly about this pill however within a very short period of time, I discovered several problems that took me almost two years to discover/attribute to this pill.

6 months after starting this pill, I noticed serious changes in my vision. In particular my right eye. My next visit with the eye doctor confirmed that I had gone almost legally blind in my right eye. Following 34 years of very good vision this was very strange.

In the next two years, I noticed that shortly after I would take the pill, my ears would have a popping sensation. They would actually close up so I felt like I was talking in a bubble. This would continue for sometimes, up to two hours after taking the pill.

One and half years after taking this pill, I started experiencing squeezing sensations in my chest-on the left side, just under my breast bone. Over the next six months, this sensation spread across my chest. I went to an RN I had seen years past because I knew that something was off. She confirmed a murmur and they did an EKG which appeared to be normal.

In addition, I had my hearing checked. I discovered in this testing, that my hearing was fine but I discussed the sensations I was experiencing in my ears-pressure which I am actually now still experiencing 2 months after discontinuing Yasmin. He told me that ortho-contraceptives have been known for a long time to be "odo-toxic". That means, toxic to the inner ear! As we talked, he told me that the oral contraceptives change fluid levels in the body-I knew that Yasmin increased potassium levels-bingo-he told me it was likely that the inner ear fluid which is composed of potassium, was out of balance and that this would, could likely cause the sensation of pressure.

The pharmacist didn't know this. The prescribing doctor didn't know this and the RN I went to see didn't know any of this.

Two months after dis-continuing this pill, I am still experiencing squeezing sensations in my chest and my ear drums feel like they have alot of pressure in them. I am likely going to see another Doctor very soon.

ditto on the sore throat! i get sore throat and a muffled sensation in my ears about 2 days after my period starts, mydoctor is checking my throid levels again now i am off the yasmin so may ask her why hormones should affect my throat. nice to see you posting again abs528...how are you doing? are you hanging in there? i have been off yasmin for 5 weeks now and i feel like i am getting better and better all the time,i still have my odd days when the anxiety gets the better of me but in general i am winning,i hope this turns out to be the case for you too. According to my doctor contraceptive pills can cause a worsening of anxiety symptoms and definately makes depression worse so maybe it is the same for OCD? i have always been a "cautious" person but i think the shift to "terrified of my own shadow" was definately caused by the yasmin as now i am off it i seem to be back to being cautious...just a little more so than before! best wishes to you all and if anyone gets an answer about the sore throat thing please please post it here!

I quit Yasmin two weeks ago before using it for 6months.
I used to be struck with a very funny sensation especially while I was driving. It was close to dizziness. Although my vision felt fine, but it felt like that I could not hear a thing suddenly, which feels similar to being in under water or being in sound-prrof room alone. It was a totally disoriented feeling that shouldn't happen while someone is driving. I got really scared because of that. I belive that it lasted only several seconds since I noticed my car drove less than 10 meters in 20 km school zone.
Apart from that, I didn't have any side effect before quitting. Now, I have a huge symtoms; the dull pain in low abdomen, a headache, water retention(gain 10lb for 2weeks).
I am especially concerned about the pain in low abdomen. I will eventually go see my GP, but I wanted to check on this site for more info.

I am in my 4th month of taking Yasmin. It was reccommended from a girl that I know at work and also my boyfriend's sister takes it. I have heard lots of good things about it. I started having anxiety problems, hot flashes, headaches, and I even tried to wear my new contacts, but I can't...it's like my eyes rejected them or something, and this is a side effect listed in the information packet that comes with a new package of Yasmin...about 2 months ago. I was taking Nexium for the first 2 months while on the pill and I assumed that it was the combination of both. Well, I started feeling better with my indegestion and stopped taking the Nexium. My hot flashes went down by half. (I would normally have about 3 or 4 a day.) Now, it's about 1 or 2 day, or every other day. After stopping the Nexium, I started getting antsy, depressed, crying at the drop of a hat, crying because I lost a dern poker hand with my boyfrend, anything and everything made me upset. I haven't experienced that for about 2 weeks now. Now, in the 4th month of taking Yasmin, my breast have become tender...very tender. Even my nipples hurt. I have this pulling sensation in my abdomen. I don't know whether I'm pregnant or what. I've never been before, so I don't know what I should feel like. I also have Fybroid Cysts Disease. I've experienced that for about 5 years now, but I haven't had any problems with new ones for about a year or so. Anyway, I was reading the other ladies' postings and I'm wondering if my side effects are from this pill. I'll probably go to the doctor next week if my breasts are still tender and if I have this pulling sensation in my abdomen. I will post again and give an update on what the doctor about all of the above and y'all's postings, too. Thanks and I hope everyone gets back to normal! -Melissa

I posted in this site back on March 10th I believe originally. I am officially going off of Yasmin starting today. I went through the first 2 months without a hitch. In my third month I started noticing that my left hand and fingers would sometimes become numb while I was driving around in my car. I also noticed that I had a throbbing sensation in my left leg when I would go to bed at night. I went through my 3rd pack, and was just finishing up my white pills when I was scheduled for an elective surgery during that week. I started back up on my 4th pack a couple of days after surgery and by the 3rd pill, I noticed I was having anxiety and experiencing pain in my left arm. I stopped the pills immediately thinking that perhaps I should hold off on taking them due to the surgery. (fear of blood clots). So I waited for my period to arrive to start Yasmin again. I started my new pack last Wednesday and by the 3rd and 4th pill, my arm had massive pains in it, and numbness in my fingers. It's a squeezing type of sensation, like when you get your blood pressure taken with the cuff around your arm. I kept taking the pills to see what would happen and I still would experience the arm pain on occasion, or sometimes weird sensations in my left foot and leg. But the worst part was the panic attacts that started happening. So....after a night of not so restfull sleep and being only 8 pills into my 4th pack - I'm quitting. It's a shame really because this pill was really what I was looking for in a bcp - it helped me lose weight, I didn't feel bloated, and my face remained clear.
