I've been taking Yaz for about a year and a half. I also take lexapro to help even out extreme mood swings I would get (2 weeks before my period). For a while, probably the first year, I just felt more tired, which I thought was because of the lexapro. In the past 6 months though, I have been getting a stomach flu type illness every month, 3 days after I start my new pack of pills. I also have a very sensitive stomach and get sick easily. I recently lost 5 pounds (from 125 to 120) without making any lifestyle changes. Also, this year I've had low iron levels, and noticed my stools are black from time to time. I went to the doctor today to have my blood checked and also submitted stool samples. Could this all be from Yaz? I have been getting the flu (or flu like illness) way too much this year, and my boyfriend never catches it from me. I am worried about going off the medication because the yaz and lexapro have really controlled my mood swings, and my skin gets much worse without birth control. I'm just worried something more serious is going on here. I am 26 and a healthy eater, so I don't understand all the stomach problems! Does anyone else have these issues? Especially after starting a pack of pills (I feel fine the week of my period)...

Hello,
I was on Yasmin for 2 years and the only problem I had was bloatedness, heartburn and nausea to the WORST extent. when i went off Yasmin for a few months I felt perfect! after I started taking it a again the Nausea started to kill me, it was so bad I just could not take it anymore, so now I have switched to Triphasil (recommended by a friend) who also had nausea and stomach problems so bad, caused by Yasmin that she ended up in Hospital. Another friend of mine also suffered from mood swings caused by Yasmin. has anyone else had severe Nausea from this product? its awful.

I was 19 years old when I was put on Yaz. About 1 year after using Yaz, I had my gallbladder removed. My gallbladder was diseased and the doctor told me if I was to wait any longer it could have possibly ruptured. Then 3 months later I had a softball cyst removed from my right ovary, and use told that I now have endometriosis. Then 6 months after that i had another cyst the size of a grapefruit removed. I am going to school for nursing and while on the Yaz pill I always thought I was a failure and that I would never make it through the nursing program. I was always having mood swings, depression, bad headaches, stomach problems, bad back pains, and ovarian cyst always popping up and growing. If someone could please let me know how to contact someone about the class action lawsuit it will be very helpful. Thank you

I took Yasmin for 5 months. I was sick while on it and decided to go off of it. My doctor said that it was not the pill, but as I got sicker she agreed I should go off of it. Within days I was in the hospital and for three years I suffered deteriorating health until we found that Yasmin had lowered my serum b12 very much and that deficiency will progressively cause many severe health problems. I also had low vitamin D and low protein c antigen which left me at higher risk of clotting. My symptoms: heacd aches, stomach problems, all digestion problems, swelling and weight gain, severe blood clots during menses, burning stomach, joint pain, heart palpitations, irregular heart beat, feeling cold at times, low body temperature, low blood pressure, confused thoughts, depression, low libido, as I got worse I also developed numb left leg and foot, numb hands and breathing irregularities during night time. I also suffered a miscarriage due to the b12 deficiency which was undiagnosed, because the fetus could not assimilate folic acid without enough b12 in my body.
I found an Endocrinologist that listened to me and he ruled out all hormonal issues and found the low serum b12, vitamin d, low protein c antigen. He then recommended me to a cardiologist who said I had a slight mitral valve prolapse something I had never had, which he felt had become symptomatic due to the severe health crisis. I saw an gastroenterologist, because I had taken Yasmin with Advil and it is contraindicated, but I was never told that. I saw a hematologist, who said my blood issues very hard to explain and after a year and seeing my medical record for years prior to Yasmin told me it seemed things changed after I took it. I am now in good health, but it took me 3 painful years to get here. I also got acupuncture to ease my symptoms.
Good luck to all of you! I have found out that in the US their is some work currently to bring litigation forward.

Is this normal?

OMG I am so glad I found this side. I have just started taking Yasmin.
Previously I was on Mercilon and found that I got very nauseous a few days before my period was due (this happened a week ago on Friday) so I asked the doctor to change my pill and he prescribed Yasmin. I have IBS and last Wednesday I had a several attack (I was on my period as well). I then started taking Yasmin the next day. By Saturday I had to spend the day in bed as I felt so sick. I actually thought I was going to be sick. There is a bug going round work so thought it might of had something to do with that or my IBS. IT started to clear by the beginning of this week, but even now my stomach feels like someone has kicked me, I just cant eat (the thought just turns my stomach) and I feel sick ALL of the time. Today I realised that this is most likely due to the Yasmin. I am going back on Mercilon as of next month. I decided I would rather put up with one day of feeling sick than all the time! The doctor and the pharmastic told me to continue taking Yasmin till my period but I just cant do that. I am not covered this month anyway because I changed mid way through my period so I might as well not take it and be careful for a month.
My sister takes Yasmin and has no problems at ill but its the worst one I have ever taken. I had problems with Dianette as well but my body cant take the high Oestrogen levels. I think it is weird how a pill can work for one woman and not the next when effectively they do the same thing!

Wow ~ I am so happy that I came across this website tonight. I started taking Yasmin a year ago and I am calling my doctor's office tomorrow to get off this pill! I initially started my search on WebMD's symptom checker because I am so frustrated with never feeling right! When I came across all of these stories, it started to piece everything together and I couldn't believe that I never thought my problems could be caused by my birth control pill!! I am 29 years old and have always been a very healthy woman, which is why I have been so frustrated because I KNOW that something is not normal with the way I have been feeling ~ this is what I have been experiencing for the last year, with some of the symptoms getting worse over the last 6 months: constant waves of nausea (everyday!), heart palpitations, anxiety, diarrhea, gas, stomach problems, hot flashes, complete intolerance to the heat, dizziness, headaches, sore calves, sore breasts. I had told my doctor about the stomach issues, the nausea, the heart palpitations, and she actually prescribed Xanax because they were all symptoms of anxiety (which I couldn't believe that I had because I am in the best possible place in my life now!) ~ but that is beside the point. I am now starting to believe that anxiety should not be the diagnosis, but a symptom of being on Yasmin!! I hope I can update this posting in a few months with great news after I switch to something else!

I was on Yasmin from November 2005 to February 2007. I didn't have a period until June 2007, and have only had 4 periods since then (and one was medically induced). I have been to a gynecologist and an endocrinologist. I have had a battery of blood tests done and all have come back normal. I have some more coming up.
Before going on Yasmin, my periods were relatively normal. I didn't have a "set your watch by it" kind of period, but I did have a period every single month (just different times during the month). While on Yasmin, I can't name specific side effects that I noticed. Looking back, breast tenderness increased (and continues), increased propensity to headaches and fatigue, and weight gain were all present. It is going off of it that has really messed up my system. My doctor originally thought I had PCOS, but blood tests have come back normal. I was even convinced, because since going off Yasmin, I have developed some of the classic symptoms. I am at a loss as to why my cycle has not returned to normal.
I am so frustrated, and while it is nice not to have periods, I want to know that I am okay. I am wondering if my being on Yasmin is still haunting me.
Has anyone else had difficulties for such an extended period after coming off of Yasmin?

Hi ladies,
I'm a 20 year old girl and I've been on Yasmin for just over a year now and it has hands down been the WORST YEAR OF MY LIFE. I started taking it for extreme menstrual cramps that would leave me screaming on the kitchen floor, curled up in a ball begging for the pain to stop. Yasmin fixed that, trust me it was like a miracle, and my acne on my face and back cleared up, another miracle.
Now the bad stuff. The first month was okay, because sometimes it takes time for the hormones to take affect. But I became severely depressed thereafter. It just started happening, crying all the time, hopeless, binge eating, gaining a lot of weight. And on top of that the GI problems, my stomach literally ballooned out to the size of a watermelon, and everything I ate irritated me. But a few months ago I became bulimic in a drastic attempt to get control back of my life, I hadn't even thought of the pill as the culprit up until this point. Keep in mind that I'm young, fit, have a great family, in school, there's no reason for my to be falling so low.
I started seeing a therapist, then a psychiatrist. I was this close to being put on antidepressants. And then something happened, my years worth prescription of Yasmin ran out so my OBGYN told the pharmacy to refill my prescription but with the generic brand, Ocella, that they had available which would only cost me 10 dollars a month with health insurance. Within four days I felt like my old self. Happy. I couldn't believe it. I went to a physician for tests and everything seemed normal, but after explaining to her my severe stomach problems she told me that it seemed like the pill induced me to become lactose intolerant. Wonderful!
So I started the second pack of Ocella a week ago and it all started happening again. The first month was fine again, but my body had caught up by now and even though I've cut dairy out, my stomach has ballooned up again and I have heartburn and indigestion no matter what I eat. Yesterday I felt insanely depressed, I binged, became insanely nauseous and threw up. I didn't leave the couch once. Now I know that it may sound like I need to reevaluate my problems, but I promise you, THIS IS NOT ME. I've realized that Ocella is exactly what it is, the generic version, and hence chemically the same as Yasmin, so the effects will mirror Yasmin's. MY OBGYN told me to finish the pack, and then I can come off them, and I cannot begin to explain how excited I am. I'm done with pills, and I'll find another way to deal with the pain.
Please, if you're taking birth control for something like acne, reconsider, it's not worth it. We are the experimental age. We can't ask our grandmothers what the long terms affects are. But if you must be on it and are feeling badly in any way, switch! You might find something better for you.

I lost the better part of four years of my life to Yasmin. I started on it when I was 19. I almost immediately developed panic attacks and anxiety. Over time, I experienced memory loss, "brain fog," stomach problems, and a lot of fatigue. I had no idea that the Yasmin was doing this, as my doctors told me that I was developing an anxiety disorder. I did stop using Yasmin for about 9 months because I ran out; within 4 months of being pill-free, my energy was back, my thoughts were clear, and I was just... myself. Then I went back on it, not realizing that the pill was poisoning me, and needed to start taking anti-depressants a few months afterwards because of the increased anxiety. My body also does not absorb B12 anymore, and my blood pressure fluctuates wildly. In addition, I get random crying/emotional outbursts for no reason.
I am not trying birth control ever, ever again.

Hello: I am so sorry that all of us are suffering since taking this pill. My experience with Yasmin was brutal and 3 years later I know am told that I have developed b12 deficiency or a very serious, but treatable condition called pernicious anemia. I never had it before then pill. I took Yasmin for only 5 months and felt sick the whole time. Headaches, strange moods, even a popping sound in my head some times, bizarre symptoms. I called my OBGYN and told he I was stopping. She said the pill did not cause this, but if I felt it was related to stop. AND IT WAS! She now admits to feeling bad for this. She did not mean it. Doctors only know what they read from the literature of a drug. I stopped taking it and was in the hospital within three days. I was in shock. Night sweats, tingling skin, no energy, stomach problems of every kind. Severe pain in my left ovary, suicidal depression and on and on. The worst part is that I began to get sicker and sicker. 3 years later of still being sick. The only thing that has helped my system is acupuncture and a serious diet change to aid my system, I find out that I have a serious b12 deficiency, which I never had. They call it an autoimmune disease which impedes you from processing b12 and all this starts in the tummy! I lost a baby during this time while pregnant, now we know it was this! The Yasmin pill has been pulled off the social medicine of some European countries due to such severe side effects. Their is a girl on this blog getting names together to start a class action suit. I am in. No one can get me my three years of suffering back, or my lost baby or my lost work. I am a professional flamenco dancer and let me tell you it is not easy to perform with a serious b12 deficiency which affects nerve endings, heart tissue and neurology! And the cure for this is b12 injections for life! If you want me to forward your name to the girl with the attorney you can write me at:****** Well I am going to keep trying to be well. I am young and have a whole life ahead of me.

Anybody concerned about their pill symptoms, look up CANDIDA. It is related to so many symptoms and my latest thoughts are, The pill causes candida and candida causes the symptoms. This means your body may not go back in check after stopping the pill.
I have had
Mood "problems" we'll call them,
headaches mostly as a soreness in my temples,
Dizziness,
Sore feet,
Random cramps in legs,
Flu like aches and pains,
Chemical sensitivity,
Fatigue,
Stomach problems
Decreasing ability to concentrate,
Severe and sudden beer intolerance, meaning taking only 2 beers to get a wicked hangover,
Sudden noise and light sensitivity,
To keep it kinda short here, I just kept telling my doctors, I feel like I'm getting old. I'm 27! I think this pill gave me a great breeding ground for candida and candida did the rest. Look it up!

Ok, here is my deal. I am 22 years old and have been on Yasmin since I had my son in 2004. I have IBS, and now that I think back, until I have been on my pills, its gotten worse. I recently went to the doctor this week because of the inability to get enough sleep or good sleep. I wake up often in the middle of the night, am always tired and never have enough energy to deal with my 3 year old. I get saddened very easily. Get down on myself quite a bit. My doctor has prescribed me zoloft. I don't know what to do. If someone should have any opinions please contact me at ****** same email.

Hi there!
I have to say, I am so happy that I have found this website. I feel like I'm crazy!! I have been taking Yasmin for a little over a year or so and within the past two month I have noticed significant stress, anxiety, depression (which I have NEVER experienced in my life). Although, over the past year I have noticed I have been tired, overall low energy, and snappy for no reason. Really high strung. I never knew why.
I do have to ask though, those of you who have stopped taking, or switched from Yasmin...have you noticed a shift in mood for the better? Have you noticed a difference in depression? I am planning to make an appointment for my OB/GYN tomorrow to get off this pill. I just want some hope that things will indeed get better, you know??

I hadn't been on birth control in a while, but getting into a new serious relationship, we both agreed that we should have some extra protection. I have only been on Yasmin for about 3 months. The first month was OK and I felt fine. But the past two months I have been experiencing extreme anxiety, nervousness (grinding my teeth), depression, stomach problems, and I just didn't feel like myself. I felt so low and didn't want to do things. My boyfriend noticed the changes in me too and I was taking a lot of things out on him just because he was there. I also haven't felt very sexual, like my libido totally dropped.
I know you are suppose to wait until you get your period to discontinue taking any type of birth control pill, because you can throw your whole body off. But I stopped taking them today and I can tell you I feel so much better already. No more pills for me! Back to good old condoms!!
I am so happy that I found this website and read that others have been feeling the same way. Now I feel like I am NOT going crazy. I know that not everyone feels these things and it could be good for some people, but it wasn't for me.

I have been on Yasmin for a little over a year. I started taking it because I was experiencing severe PMS Symptoms. I was really happy with Yasmin because my PMS went away and my face cleared up. However, the last six months I have started experiencing a lot of stomach problems. I have constant nausea--feels like morning sickness. I'm sick if I eat but sicker if I don't eat. I've had anxiety, headaches, insomnia, gas, weight gain, and depression. I've been to see the doctor about my stomach--I had a blood test and my amalayse and lipase were both elevated (around 400--normal is 70). He assumed that it was my gallbladder, but after a CT Scan, Ultrasound and Endoscopy, they say my gallbladder and pancreas both look healthy. He's stumped. I'm wondering if it's the pill. I've tried to find research showing that the pill can increase amalayse and lipase levels but with little luck. There are a few rare cases reported. Anyone else experience this? I can handle the side effects, it's just the pancreatic function that I worry about.

I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it.
Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

Panic Attack, felt like I was going to faint. Also, my chest is feeling tight and heavy. Stomach problems too. I am going off this pill right away. I haven't been on it for long, so I am hoping there will be no problems going off of it. I do like how Yasmin makes my skin look better, but its not worth all the horrible feelings I am having right now. This pill SUCKS!!!

Hi! Thanks so much for your informative post. I had no idea prozac was used this way as well and will definitely read up on it as you suggested. Your story is intriguing to me because you describe my situation pretty closely, and confirmed what I had felt all along, that my testosterone had fallen and that estrogen had taken over (even if my estrogen was registering a normal level it was still too high because I did not have the testosterone levels to balance it). Did your doctor confirm these findings with you? I had the same annoying stomach problems and just when I thought things were getting better again, I would feel bad again. However at my six month mark, I did feel some improvement, maybe a little more than the 1% you were describing, but not completely, so I tried to restart my old pill I took for 12 years with no problems before I took the yasmin, and at first I felt pretty good and things really started to feel normal, but then about 12 days into it I started with the anxiety again and stopped taking them immediately about day 15 and all my symptoms seemed to start over from scratch just like after I quit the yasmin. (I really wanted to die at this point), but now 4 months after that episode I feel like I may be progressing again, but it is like you said, back and forth. And all along I have been testing my hormones monthly, I was starting to see my testosterone come up when I was starting to feel better, but when I tried to take that pill again it fell again (I could feel it, I knew even before the results came back) But I want to know, did your doctor confirm your hormones with lab tests? I will definitely read up on the prozac, as I had not heard of it used in this way. Your right though, that is a pretty low dose. Also, I was just wondering did your doctor ever suggest hormonal replacement with bioidentical hormones?
Thanks for your post and in advance for your reply.
Sincerely, BitterRN

Hey guys. I can't seem to figure out what's going on here. I've always had anxiety but I've been able to control it. About 3 years ago, I started Yasmin & the anxiety raged out of control. I get very severe dizziness/vertigo. Stomach problems, backaches, severe breast soreness. I didn't even start to make the connection until recently to Yasmin. I don't take any other medications (I'm mostly a naturopath) so this is the only chemical I'm putting in my body. I think I need to get off this medication. Thoughts?

I thought I have been losing my mind. I have been in a relationship for almost 3 years and everyone told me I was just losing my sex drive because of it getting old. We recently got engaged and it still did nothing for me, I still did not want to have sex. I feel so bad for my fiance, I started thinking maybe I don't love him anymore because I don't even want to kiss him. I am still on Yasmin and will be calling my doctor shortly to figure something new out.
I don't know how long I have been on it now...I went on it about 4 1/2 years ago and then went off about 7-8 months ago and had some really bad depression spells and thought it was from the new pill. Maybe I was wrong, from what I am reading it sounds like it is just the side effects of coming off yasmin. I have also had some serious stomach problems in the past several years and thought I had just started having IBS problems. The only thing that made me question that is the fact that I never have had stomach problems before I was always a very regular person and now I never know when i am going to have a problem.
Does anyone have advice on another form of Birth control that will help me out? I would like to stay on something because I am about 6 months away from my wedding and one of the main reasons I had gone on the pill originally was for cramps because I get them super bad.
Looking for any advice I can get!
Thanks,

emotionally i am doing much better,i am however having major troubles with my (ahem!) bowels! i seem to be going to the loo about 15 times a day,i think it is a recurrence of IBS but it is really throwing me off because i like to know i am not going to need the bathroom when i am out! this brings up my panic attack worry which in turn sets off my nervous stomach! i have not had these problems for about 12-13 years and i can only attribute it's return to all the problems i had while taking yasmin,i am taking various remedies to try and calm it down again, hopefully once the yasmin is out of my system and my anxiety levels are back to pre-yasmin levels my stomach problems will improve again..in the mean time if anyone has any advice on IBS or nervous stomachs i would love to hear from you!

I was given Yasmin when Ortho tri-cycline gave me severe stomach pains and constant bloating-- I was diagnosed with sensitive lining of the stomach a couple years ago (after multiple tests for gall bladder, ulcers, GI tract, etc, that's all they could come up with!!), so basically I have had some sort of stomach ailments for the last 5 years. My biggest concern with the Ortho tri-cycline, prescribed for me to hopefully help wean myself off of my Tetracycline pills before I get married, was that the pills would help my acne-prone skin. Little did I know that that pill would make my stomach problems so much worse; I had constant pain for over 2 weeks before I called the advice nurse, who said I should try Yasmin because it helps with bloating....
Now honestly, I would rather have stomach pains than anxiety, nervousness, panic attacks, and all-around depression. I had a bad bout with depression about 6 years ago, and I thought that dark time in my life had passed once I moved back home and met my dear boyfriend (now my fiance). I was all right for almost a week on each pill before I began having issues.
After a week on Yasmin, the stomach pains started again, but this time I wasn't bloated-- I just felt sick to my stomach, and like someone was pressing on my stomach (I felt like I was flexing my tummy all the time). The kicker was that I fell into such a bad depression at work one day, that I wouldn't talk to anyone, and didn't want to see anyone-- including my poor fiance. I stayed home the next day and tried to sleep it off; my minor, usually (semi-)humorous OCD tendencies became almost unbearable as I became more anxious and nervous about everything that was going on.
After speaking with my Mom and fiance, I decided to stop the Yasmin last Wednesday. I was hoping maybe this pill would help my complexion or help my boobs to grow (LOL, I know, but the ortho made ONE boob grow, LOL LOL), but if it did a little bit of any of that, it wasn't worth the emotional trauma I was going through. I was thinking maybe I'd start the Yasmin again after a month or so, but my body became totally confused and my period started about a week early... now I have bad cramps, and Saturday I fell into panic/depression again and spent the day alone, wondering why I am feeling like this again. I have been sleeping very badly at night as well-- and don't get me wrong, I can usually sleep at any given moment for any given amount of time, haha... I have had some of the worst nights' sleep of my life this last week or so.
In short, I guess the diuretic effect of Yasmin has totally messed up my chemical/hormonal balance or something in my brain. I am on Weight Watchers so I am monitoring my weight closely, and I did lose about 3-5 pounds after taking Yasmin for only 1.5 weeks without changing my diet, so apparently all sorts of things were being flushed out of me unneccessarily.
I can only pray now that I will be back to normal again soon. The negative experiences I have had with hormonal birth control so far are really leading me to believe that I should just go with the IUD even though that scares me too since I am a virgin... yet, I'd rather have cramps or insertion pain than have anything affect me emotionally.
Thanks for reading so far. All I can say is that anyone prone to any sort of nervousness/anxiety/depression should stay FAR AWAY from this pill!!!!!!

Carebear- I have had really bad stomach ache's and other stomach problems since I started taking yasmine. I have been off it for almost a week now and they are getting alot better. My doctor even told me I had developed IBS and I asked him if it could be related to my bc and he told me know. I had never had any previous stomach problems and it really confined me to my house. I also developed really bad anxiety and it made my stomach even worse. I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for but if your still on yasmine get off asap.
Has anyone found a bc that doesn't cause them anxiety? Please let me know because I need to go back on something
thank you

Hi,
I'm not sure if I should be posting this on the webpage for Yasmin or Seasonale but I'm just looking for someone else who has had a similiar experience because I feel like I'm losing my mind.
It all started back in March when I realized that I was going to have my period for my May wedding. Well, I called my gyno and the nice nurse gave me the best news ever! She told me to keep taking my active pills (then on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo) until after the honeymoon and then let myself have my period. Well this sounded as good as living happily ever after.....just without the period.
It worked for about 7 or 8 weeks and then disaster struck. I got my period and it wouldn't go away! No matter how many active pills I took, my period just wouldn't go away. So now it's at the end of April, my wedding was for May 29th and I was severly bloated due to endometriosis, my period and stomach problems and I was so big that i could barely fit into my gown. Panicked I called up the gyno and they gave me a new script for a new birth control. I waited the week and started the following Sunday. After another week of having my period I walked into the gyno and just sobbed to the doctor telling him that I was so bloated and that I couldn't wear my dress for more than 15 minutes without wanting to rip it off and put on some sweats. (wedding in 20 days now)
Seasonale was our last hope and my savior. I started Seasonale the following Sunday and finally my period was gone. The wedding was beautiful, but by the time I had come home from the honeymoon I noticed that I was considerably heavier. Thinking that it was because of the way that we ate on the honeymoon ,I dismissed it and went back to the normal workout that I had been doing all year. (Last year was the thinnest that I had ever been)
After another month of being fat, I attributed it to the Seasonale because no matter how much I worked out or tried to eat better than I did pre-wedding, I could not lose any weight. I tried water pills and I couldn't lose anything.
I asked my doctor to switch me back to Ortho Lo after being on Seasonale for only two months and I lost maybe a few pounds and then hit a plateau. After one month on Ortho Lo and starting to lose my mind, I decided to go off of BC and give my body a rest. I let my body rest for one week and then started Yasmin as my best bet because it's supposed to have some sort of water pill in it and I know a lot of woman who have lost weight on it. I was doing well for the first month or so and now I'm on my 4th month and i feel just as big as when I was bloated on Seasonale. I'm going to the doctor on Thursday but I haven't read but on review for Yasmin that said anything about weight gain and I believe that I'm at the end of my rope.
Has anyone else had a similiar situation go on. I would love to feel that if I go off of Yasmin that the weight will just shed, but because no one really complains about Yasmin except for being nervous and having panic attacks which I have anyway because I'm nuts (lol) I'm not sure if I should go off of it or give it some more time.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Good luck to everyone on Yasmin and congrats to those of you have shed a few pounds on it!

I was on Yasmin for about a year, but stopped taking it about two months ago. While I was taking it, I suffered from a lot of bowel/G.I. type of problems. Bloating, bleeding with bowel movements and even had a colonoscopy to make sure I didn't have cancer, etc. I received the diagnosis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but no one seemed to know why. A few weeks after I stopped taking the pill, I experienced lower right abdominal pain, that other writers have mentioned. I went to the doctor right away and found out that my appendix was inflamed, and had to have it removed immediately (and got to spend a lovely four days in the hospital after the surgery). My husband (who has a better memory than me) has been insisting for a while that he thinks that this pill has caused a lot of my bowel/stomach problems this last year, and maybe even the appendix problem. I, too am wondering what else is out there about this drug. I searched through MSN, and out of 25 pages of searching, this is the only site dedicated to the side effects. "Yasmin" the maker of the pill and pharmacies seem to own every other site. Unfortunately, I did not really question my doctor when she prescribed this drug to me, but remembered thinking that it was odd that they wanted to see me again in a few months to see how I was doing. I have taken the pill off and on for the last fifteen years, and didn't remember having a follow up visit like this.

I have been on yasmin for 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks, there has not been a day that I did not have an upset stomach, nasuea, and diarhea. In addition to the stomach problems, I have also had terrible headaches. Add to these symptoms emotional outburts like crying and rage. I'm going off of it as soon as I find the healthy way.

I've been on Yasmin for probably over 2 years now. I was taking it continuously for endometriosis but if I forgot one pill or took it later than usual I would start BLEEDING, not spotting, and a lot of bloating and cramping. I also had a lot of stomach problems when I bled and I just got so very frustrated with the bleeding, stomach pain & bloating as well as the severe cramping that comes with endometriosis. Well I stopped the darn pills for about 2 weeks but I was worried about getting pregnant so I decided to get back on them. First off, I have noticed in the past week since I re-started the pills that I am getting cystic acne which is very distressing to me because I am 29 years old and I suffered from cystic acne for a long time before I got it under control with Accutane but not before the scar damage was done. I never even thought that the Yasmin could be causing it since I didn't have this problem prior to stopping it. I happened to stumble upon this website looking for help with pregnancy issues related to Yasmin users. I was just on Yasmin's website which said that recent studies indicate that women are the most fertile the first two weeks after stopping Yasmin. So I'm freakin' out a bit here because I was off exactly two weeks and my husband and I were quite "frisky" these past two weeks. Is there anyone out there that may have experienced an unexpected "quick" pregnancy right after stopping Yasmin? I already see that many people have suffered from the acne, I'm just not sure why it didn't affect my skin before.

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!
Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.
I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).
The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.
I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.
For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???
Thanks...

i have been on yasmin for three years. the first side effect i noticed was the dizziness. i used to have awesome balance (i was a gymnast), but now can barely stand on one leg with my eyes closed. the week after i started taking yasmin, i got in TWO car accidents and messed up my perfect driving record. i attribute it all to the dizziness.
i have PCOS...severely. my doctor perscribed yasmin to help control the disease and slow the facial hair i was slowly but steadily accumulating. PCOS also caused a me to develop muscles incredibly fast. i had a very boyish phsyique...broad shoulders, square waste, lots of muscle definition. i hated that so much that i felt the yasmin was my savior. he also put me on aldactone (spironolatone - the drug they say not to take with yasmin), but this caused me to become so exhausted and my hair to totally dry out. i went of the medication, but stayed on yasmin.
suddenly, i am experiencing horrible nausea and stomach problems. i can barely stand to eat anything other than yogurt. this has been going on for about a month, and i am so sick of being sick! i am also experiencing fluid retention to a severe degree. i am trying to flush it out by drinking tons of water, but i dont' think it's working. i have water in my ears as well. no one has been able to determine a reason that my ears hold water constantly. it's the worst pressure headache you'll ever experience. i believe yasmin is responsible for my nausea because when i had my period last week the nausea went away. sunday came around and I am back on the pill, and the nausea is back with a vengance. last night i dryheaved until i couldn't stand it anymore and just gave up and went to bed. i didn't sleep very well because of the numbness in my arms and legs. it's been keeping me up all night lately.
i scheduled a doctor's appointment tomorrow. i asked if they thought yasmin could be responsible for everything i've been experiencing, and they said not if i've been on it for 3 years. i'm so happy to have found this website. it makes me think i am NOT crazy and the pill is really messing me up.
i went of the pill for a week and lost five pounds previously. i'm hoping that going off for a while will be the right thing for me to do and i'll have relief from all of these horrible symptoms!

ADVICE FROM THOSE WHO HAVE STOPPED YASMIN!!!!
So I posted here a while back with a list of all my symptoms while on Yasmin...stomach problems, urinary problems, migraines, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, high cholesterol, chest pains, muscle aches, vaginal dryness, ANXIETY...and the list goes on and on.
Anyway, after 3 years on Yasmin and many doctors refusing to believe that Yasmin has anything to do with my problems, I decided to stop Yasmin on my own. Although I am glad that Yasmin is out of my system and there have been some improvements (decreased heart rate, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol), I have been off of Yasmin for 7 weeks and am feeling pretty horrible. Since stopping Yasmin, I have acquired the following new symptoms:
-EXCESSIVE HAIR LOSS- my hair is thinning, falling out constantly and I am losing 200+ hairs a day.
-Increased acne and oiliness on face
-Dry skin everywhere else- my hands, legs and scalp have been really dry and are either flaking or peeling.
-No period- I have not had a period for 7 weeks.
I feel so depressed and more anxious more than ever- possibly due to all of the additional symptoms I am having. I am assuming this is just the Yasmin getting out of my system.
Anyway, has anyone else who has stopped Yasmin experienced hair loss? I have an GYN appt on Thursday, but all of my doctors tend to blow me off like I am just some crazy person. I am really freaking out about this and it is really consuming my life.

This is good. Like most of you, i thought i was going crazy too. I already ruined and ended one relationship quite abruptly.. though yasmin was just a catalyst, i never hated him as i probably made him feel i did. im never ever a bitter or angry person but yasmin seemed to bring out the absolute worst in me. i have weird stomach problems as well, for instance; only the 3 weeks of active pills i am lactose intolerant. sometime recently i started feeling an odd cramp every time after eating, only within the last month. i have only been on this stuff since about january '05 and its only june '05 and the whole time i was slowly going crazy didnt realize that it could have been attributed to the pill.
i am tired and cranky and also not nearly as talkative as i usually am. i lost my sex drive, actually ive turned quite contrary,... where i used to be constantly hungry and had the insatiable drive now any time it is coming to that point the butterflies in the tummy that i previously felt have translated into nausea and the thought of sex with someone in am incredibly attracted to seems revolting.
ive noticed, however, that many of girls that went through a lot of issues with anxiety and depression as a teen seem to do well on it, atleast for the first year. then people that are usually quite happy or mild and optimistic feel low and in a rut.
i am bipolar, so while i know the lowest of lows i also know the highest of highs and the yasmin seems to keep me at a steady state right below the line slightly closer to low... and while at first it wasnt noticeable, after a while i realized that i missed all of the highs i could feel and wondered where they went and grew resentful towards my boyfriend for not being able to make me as high as he once could.
those that are used to being kept steadily low might appreciate the steady still-low-but-not-quite-so-low-as-the-lowest , if that makes any sense. anyway, thanks a lot, im quitting tonight and looking for reviews of nuvaring

I am so glad I found this site! I started Yasmin about 3 weeks ago, and my sex drive hit zero almost immediately. I've also had headaches and stomach problems, but the sex drive has been most dramatic change for me.

My daughter just stopped taking Yasmin after two years on it. She experienced severe stomach problems while on it but it didn't click untill I found this web sight. Her stomach problems have subsided in the past three weeks. However she is having severe bloating and weight gain (seven pounds) since stopping the pill. Her Dr. says Yasmin is a diuretic and she may be rebounding. Has anybody experienced these symptoms?

I started taking Yasmin in July 2002. After a month I started fainting, sever stomach problems, mood swings, confusion and forgetfullness, loss of sexual desire and vaginal dryness. I first contacted my OBGYN and asked if this would be a side effect and the reponse was "absolutely not". I have gone to several specialist and had some very intensive test. I was diagnosed with IBS, in my head, stress, and maybe liver cancer. Only thing that remains a constant is they all agree my electrolytes are extremely low.
I am so happy to see others have had these problems. I am going back to my old birth control pills immediately. Thank you for helping me realize I was right all along.

This isn't a new side effect or anything, but I just got off of Yasmin because I had diarrehia everyday for the past 6 months since I first started taking it. At first, I thought maybe I had inherited my dad's stomach problems, but then quickly realized that it wasn't just my dad's problems wearing off on me, it was Yasmin. Yasmin is probably the worst of 4 kinds of birth control that I have ever been on. I am scared to death for those of you that think that Yasmin is good. I have been off for less than a week and I am going crazy because of it. A couple months ago I had my first panic attack. I didn't know then what it was until yesterday when I researching the symptoms I had again...another panic attack just 3 days ago. Now my whole body feels numb. I don't know what to do. I finally decided to tell my mother who is taking me to the doctor tomorrow morning. It is almost as if my body is non-existent. I feel like I itch, but when I go to scratch, I really can't feel it but I know I am scratching. It's almost like "if I can't see it, it's not there". I am hoping that the doctor can help me out. I see where some people took 6 months to get over the panic attacks...and that scares me to death. I hope that I am a quick recoverer because this is something that I do not wish anybody to ever have to go into. I am a college student and I can almost tell that this is going to affect the way that I look at things and my studying habits. I would urge EVERYONE to NEVER take YASMIN because it really does have some very negative side effects that they failed to mention.

I've been on Yasmin since October and been suffering stomach problems on and off since then, but nothing like the last two weeks:
Anyone heard about Yasmin actually CAUSING liver problems? I've never had anything like this. My liver function tests are through the roof and I've been sick/tired/lethargic. I'd appreciate any input into this.
Also, I'd lost 10 kg and kept it off for a year, but since Yasmin 5 have come back on :(

i have been on yasmin for 3 months now, and it didn't occur to me until yesterday that the burping, acid, indegestion i have recently developed (in the last 3 months...) might be related... in talking to a friend, she mentioned her sister, who is also on yasmin, was having the same problem. in talking with her, i found out that it sarted when she went on this pill too... i have never had any kind of stomach problems before this... it got so bad that she prescribed acid controllers.. i'm going off yasmin in a week..
reading through the other side effects a bunch of people here have listed, reminds me of myself the last few months...

I have been taking Yasmin for about 4 months, the entire time I have had stomach upset with excessive stomach gas causing a lot of belching. I have been tired and moody also. Hungry all the time, maybe because eating tends to calm down the acidic belching. I have read about candida (yeast) overgrowth in your system can be caused by BCPS, this may be what is causing the stomach problems and fatigue. Has anyone else had this belching problem?

My daughter had switched from the birth control pill Low-Ogestrel-28 after about 2 1/2 years (no side effects at all then a little spotting mid cycle) so she saw her primary care and the dr. told her that her body had become used to that paticular pill and switched her to Yasmin. The first month was ok and then in the 2nd month I noticed a big change in her attitude..she became very short tempered during the entire month and then when she was on the placebo pills (the days prior to her period) she really became a crazy angry woman. When on the other bc the week prior found her more sensitive and crying...such a total flip in her nature.
-- By camms13 | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message meThen on the 3rd month the vomiting began...nothing major at first - random maybe once a week and always in the morning...after juice or soymilk. So you explain it away by saying that it's first thing in the morning and theres more acid on your stomach or she was hungry when she went to bed and it's from that. She began having headaches around this time also..Ok so she stopped having anything but water with her English muffin first thing in the morning and things evened out with the stomach thing - for a little while. She was incredibly tired and had a weird sore throat - killer sore throat - never had strep before (she's 20 years old...) she got an appt. to see a N.P. in the dr. office and she asked me to go...while we were there I asked not only the medical assistant but the N.P. (nurse practitioner) about the law commercials that I had seen regarding Yasmin..they blew it off as just a bunch of ambulance chasers wanting money and that it was safe and effective. They were adamant about it. Ok I dropped it..after examination the NP told my daughter that her lymph nodes were enlarged and she had A. strep B. Mono C.all of the above. Tests ruled out Strep but we had a winner on Mono. While she had the week off from work I noticed depression along with the headaches and also the stomach problems came back. Always in the morning, but it became every morning now..we thought she was hungry and she would eat and feel fine and then about 5 minutes after finishing her breakfast with only a small amt. of water to go along with it she'd have a period where for the next 15 -30 minutes she'd either throw up (and once doing this would feel fine) or it would work itself out and she'd be fine. It had gotton to the point I don't know who dreaded the morning more her or me. We are now in the 4th month of Yasmin and this began to happen every single morning and then toward the end of the month it would start being random at nightime..no vomiting but feeling sick - like it had begun in the beginning with the morning stuff. It came to head the other day- Saturday October 10th 2009. We had gone on a overnight trip to see her grandparents and we had to leave early in the morning (4 am) so she took the pill after having a little something to eat (no liquids) by 2:30 that afternoon she all of a sudden felt like she was going to get sick..and boy did she - violently sick - then again at 6:30 - violently ill- projectile and again at 8:30. I got on the computer and started researching Yasmin....and it all came together. I told her no more pill...she is in a serious relationship and was using Yasmin not only for the terrible painful periods that she was having but for protection so we needed to take that into account...she was safe and she is now off that pill. She did not take one Sunday (11th) or Monday (12th) and I cannot tell you how much better she is. This was someone who had lived with a constant stomach ache for over 4 weeks...we could outfit a pharmacy with all the otc meds I have bought - pepto, rolaids, gaviscon, maalox, YOU Name it we have it in regards to stomach distress..and nothing really helped. A burp and feel better for a little while but it was always there..that low lying ache in the tummy. She spoke with a friend that works for a doctor on Sunday and told her about the Yasmin and the woman couldn't believe that she had been prescribed that..she told her to get off it immediately (she already had) and that the dr. that she works for will not prescribe Yasmin or yaz to any of his patients. My daughter's personality is back. She is laughing and happy and a totally different girl. Headaches are gone and most importantly NO stomach pain at all. Completely gone. She can eat and drink and no problems what-so-ever. She looked at me and said "I can't believe I lived like that for so long, I had forgotten what it felt like to feel good - like me". She is calling a Ob/Gyn practice this morning and hopefully will be seen by someone today. What a nightmare. My heart goes out to those of you that have posted and have had much worse things besides what my daughter has gone thru. The FDA needs to do something about this !! What can we do to get this information to them? DO NOT TAKE OR LET YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS TAKE YASMIN OR YAZ - IT IS HARMFUL.
