I just stopped taking Yasmin after 2 weeks. I was previously taking Yaz, with no major side effects other than an increase in mood swings. The Yasmin has felt like poison! I had severe abdominal pain, nausea, fatigue, chest pain and a general feeling of being sick. Since I have stopped taking it I am starting to feel better but I feel like my body is still trying to recover. Do not take this pill, please try something else.

I was on Yaz for years with no serious problems, but after my baby was born 6 months ago my insurance put me on Yasmin. I hate it! I'm starting to have vision problems and my eyes burn horrible when I get into the sun. I am 37 years old and am in good health. I find myself having mood swings and crying for no reason at all. My concern is my eyes and how bad they hurt. Anyone else having problems like this?

I've been on Yasmin(Ocella) since July. At first I had no side affects and then just last week, I had shortness of breath, tingling all over, warm sensations in my body, headaches and blurry vision. I had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. It also seems like I'm having all sorts of thoughts that are keeping me paranoid and not sleeping. It also seems like my left breast is slightly larger than my right. I've never had any problems like this before so as of today I'm taking myself of this birth control pill.

I went on this POISON Yasmin for a year then went off after I gained weight. I proceeded to lose so much weight after I went off that I lost 40 pounds by doing nothing different over the course of three months. I got so skinny people became concerned but there wasn't anything medically wrong with me. However, I also didn't have my period for over a year after quitting Yasmin. I went to the gyno concerned but after a Progesterone test (which I failed) he suggested I just try going back on again with Yaz this time. I had my periods again of course but not on my own. They were hormonally controlled. After two months, I started craving food and getting anxious and stuffing my face as a way to cope with the mood swings and stress. This is was so not like me. Then I started to get horrible bloating and constipation. I had to use laxatives regularly to have any movement. After gaining 30 pounds and suffering in severe with the constipation, I decided it had to be the pill so I went off again. No surprise, I haven't had a period for 6 months since I've been off and while the crazy mood swings have gone away, I'm still having really bad GI problems. I have a sharp pain in my lower left bowel and I'm chronically constipated. After seeing doctors and running blood test which all ended up normal they still don't know what's wrong even though I tell them it's because of this pill. My gyno thinks I'm crazy, my GP thinks I'm crazy, and now I have a GI who thinks I'm crazy. IT'S BECAUSE OF YASMIN/YAZ!! This is POISON. Do NOT take this or give it to you kids. I'm just praying I can heal the pain and the constipation soon because I'm starting to limp and all the doctors have told me to do is eat a different diet. I've been eating cooked fruits and veggies for almost a month now because that's the only thing I can eat without severe pain. And I'm a 24 year old healthy girl who exercises every day. I am beyond amazed this crippling drug is still on the market place.

Yasmin is the only pill that has worked for me. I have been taking it off and on for years, and it has taken away all my cramps and I don't believe I've had any mood changes with it. I recently went to the doctor for a checkup and to get new pills, and he recommended Yaz. He said he had a hard time prescribing Yasmin over Yaz, so I decided to try it out. I've been on it for 3 weeks and it's terrible for mood changes!

I'm finding myself snapping at people at work, being really angry and anxious, then suddenly being depressed and not caring about anything. I've felt more stressed out in the past 3 weeks then I have in my life. I find myself overreacting about the smallest things, and being way too emotional about it. I start to feel worthless, depressed and alone, even though I have a boyfriend. I have found myself getting really emotional if he needs to work on a project at home and can't spend time with me. I get really upset really quickly, then I immediately apologize and feel bad about it.

The mood changes are insane, and I feel like I'm going crazy! I'm also really tired throughout the say, even though I'm getting a ton of sleep. I just feel like sleeping more and more. I haven't had any headaches, but that's not to say it wont happen later. I'm afraid to keep taking these pills! I want to go back to Yasmin. YAZ is terrible!

Hi
I am in the UK - where any knowledge of side effects related to Yasmin appear to be non-existent. I was prescribed this to treat my endo after having problems with another pill (constant bleeding and mood swings).
Initially it was like a magic pill - immediately improving the mood swings and stopping the constant bleeding. Then after about 4 days I felt so nauseous I wanted to go home from work - this lasted a few days.
A week and half into my first pack, I suffered continuous asthma attacks - with no obvious cause, this developed in hours to spontaneous vomiting along with a hacking cough.nI was prescribed antibiotics for "infections". The symptoms continued until it was unbearable and I was put on anti-vomiting tablets. and changed onto a different antibiotic.
A week later back at the doctors surgery I had a series of tests - awaiting results as I type, as I have very dark urine, stools that are not "normal" (clay or yellow), pain in my stomach, pins and needles, continue to vomit if don't take the anti vomiting tablets. Have now stopped taking Yasmin and await results...
HOw long does everyone appear to improve after stopping taking Yasmin? Also does this sound like I may have a case of hyperkalemia? (I am awaiting results).
Many thank

I'm a 19 year old college student and a I've been on Yasmin for about 3 years. I started the pill because after two major surgeries, my body was traumatized, leaving me with very heavy periods and feeling tired all the time. I started Yasmin and at first, was very happy with it. I didn't lose weight on it, but I didn't gain any weight, either, which is what happened when I tried taking other birth control pills. However, after my senior year, I went off to college, where the problems began. It seemed that anytime I was under stress, my anxiety and bad mood would amplify. I got mad at my boyfriend over small things to the point of wanting to break up with him. Thank goodness he was patient with me! I began having panic attacks and although I was living in horrible conditions at school, I just chalked it up to not being ready to move off, etc. I came home the next semester and had the same problems. Anytime my boyfriend and I get into an argument, I can feel myself get heated up and I become uncontrollably angry. I hate myself when this happens. I have also been very tired. Some mornings, I can't stay awake in class and since I've been on the pill, I have felt the need to take naps way more often than usual. I plan to stop taking this pill as soon as my month is up!

I am a healthy 20 year old. I have been on Yasmin for a little over 2 years. When i began taking Yasmin, i immediately gained over 10 pounds. I Felt very nauseous every time i started a new pack. But the nausea only lasted 1 day, & the rest of the month was fine. After a year on Yasmin I became use to it ( I'm guessing) & The nausea went away. Now, 2 years into taking it, it has no negative side effects on me.

I recently went to my Gynecologist for a pap & my prescription refill. She handed me YAZ. Though i was grateful for free birth control, i cant help but feel that taking YAZ for the last week was a bad idea. I'm VERY moody, sick to my stomach (even as I'm writing this, I'm choking it down), tired & bloated. I HATE YAZ!!! If all these effects are coming on now ( 1 week into taking it) i cant imagine ho much WORSE its gonna be next week.

I will be calling my gynecologist tonight, to ask if its okay to just switch back to Yasmin, in the middle of the YAZ pack. (hopefully she says yes)

I will never go off YASMIN again.

I am a few days away from my 19th birthday and i've been taking Yasmin since the age of 11. I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 11 and Yasmin has been what's keeping my period regular and more or less pain free since then. In May of 2008 i was switched to the generic version of Yasmin called, Ocella and started to notice more and more symptoms and side effects. My stomach pain in the mornings grew greater by the day and when i was on my sugar pill i would gain an unbearable migraine. Thinking it was just part of being a woman i ignored it and went about my life. It wasn't until December of 2008 while out with a group of friends i came into some serious stomach pain. thinking it was just a typical stomach ache that i normally got i ignored it. when i came to be about 4 am and the pain hadn't stopped i started to worry. first thing in the morning i went to the doctor who referred me to get an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that i had gall stones and that i should have my gall bladder removed before more complications were to occur. Being a college student only a week away from returning to my second semester i opted to wait until spring break to have the surgery. During the 3 month wait i experience extreme diarrhea whenever something was put in my mouth, extreme stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, headaches, sore muscles, the list goes on and on i felt like i had been hit by a truck every day and i still had to go to class. in March of 2009 i had my gall bladder removed thinking that the symptoms would finally stop i returned to school only to find that nothing got better. It's been 7 months since my gall bladder has been removed and i'm still having the same symptoms as before and now i've added depression, stress, lack of energy and interest and many other things to the list. I'm still taking Ocella because i've never been advised otherwise but the symptoms are taking over my life. I am a sophomore majoring in electrical engineering at college and it's just become harder and harder to focus on my work or to enjoy the aspects of college that i should be with the frequent trips to the bathroom or having to opt out of a fun activity because of stomach pain. I was wondering if anyone can help me, maybe point me in a direction where i can get better and get back to enjoying what a 19 should be. Thanks.

I just turned 35 and I have been on YASMIN - not YAZ, since I was 28. I have had no problems whatsoever. My only regret is that my OB/GYN started giving out YAZ samples and had none of YASMIN. I took YAZ one month, thinking they were identical products - Big mistake. I felt horrible after taking it just that one month. I told my doctor to change my Rx back to Yasmin and have been happy ever since. Periods are only 3 days and light. Only side effect is that when I am on the sugar pills, I end up getting migraines, but that is because of the steroid withdrawal. I feel these two products have nothing in common...I totally agree that YAZ is a horrible drug, but Yasmin has been around a lot longer and fortunately, I have not had any problems. Like with every drug though, not everything works the same for everyone. Every drug out today has some type of side effect...it is a risk with every drug taken...even with Tylenol and aspirin. I like the way I feel now much better than when I was not taking the Yasmin, so it is a good thing for me....but, to each his own.

I was on yaz for close to 4-5 years. I started taking antibiotics and my husband and I became pregnant while on the pill. We were well aware of chances of becoming pregnant. From the day I found out i was pregnant I started throwing up. I LOST 15 pounds during my pregnancy due to being sick all of the time. I had constant heartburn and choked all of this up to being pregnant with a little girl with a head full of black hair! The day my husband was suppose to go back to work from his leave (exactly 2 weeks after having my baby) i started throwing up at about 3am due to intense stomach pain that radiated into my chest and back and couldn't stop. He stayed home. The next day it happened again, my husband assumed i had postpartum depression and told me i would be fine and left for work. I tried to go back to bed but couldn't stop throwing up long enough to go into the next room and check on my crying newborn. I had to beg him to come home from work, we got a babysitter, went to the hospital, they did an ultrasound and admitted me. 12 hrs later I was on the operating table having my gallbladder removed. I now suffer with DAILY diarrhea immediately after I eat ANYTHING and stomach pain. I try to stick to a low fat diet but it doesn't help!!!! i have constant stomach pain, headaches, nausea and heartburn. Not to mention the FOUR scars that i have from the surgery. When i started taking Yasmin and eventually yaz NOWHERE did it say that it could cause gallbladder disease!

I started Yaz (lower dose of estrogen than Yasmin) about three months ago. A couple of weeks ago I experienced shortness of breath and chest pain while exercising which became worse with time. It kept getting worse and I would feel short of breath just sitting or laying down. I eventually went to urgent care and was told my blood pressure was really high. I have never had a problem with high blood pressure before. ObGyn office told me to stop the Yaz immediately. The shortness of breath is still present. Now I am on blood pressure medication and an inhaler.

I too have been experiencing the same side effects listed by most of you. I have also been seeing a gastroenterologist for about 9 months now because of stomach issues. All symptoms point to gallbladder disease but the tests come back normal. I called my gyne today and they seem unconcerned with what I have told them and advised me to continue to take my pills until my annual visit in October. I'm done with this pack on Saturday and am thinking of going sans pills for the next month until my appt. Any advice on what pill I should switch to when I do see my dr.?

Took Yaz years ago for some months. Do not remember many side effects. Starting taking it in July 2009 and within 2 weeks was hospitalized with pulmonary embolisms in both lung. Which means blood clots in both lungs. Doctor's could not find any other reason than Yaz. Please DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I was a healthy 37 year old with not history of clotting disorders and now I have to have see a hematologist, pulmonologist and take Coumadin for the next 6-9 months. I never thought that a medicine could destroy me in as little of a time as 2 weeks. I thank God for getting me through it and am writing to warn any future users. Don't take this med.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. It is the only BC I have ever been on and have LOVED it up until about 3 months ago. All of a sudden I started having heart palpitations, sever chest pains, extreme fatigue, very bloated in my stomach, low sex drive, pain and tingling in my arms and legs, dizziness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight gain and major mood swings! I went to the DR and they did an EKG (which was normal) Tested my blood (I now have a thyroid problem that I have never had before) and they did an ultrasound (Dr that I may have a murmur) on my heart and the results came back fine. So the DR prescribed me Synthroid for the thyroid problem and the DR said that should help me gain my energy back, loose some weight and would take care of the heart palpitations. The other symptoms he contributed to Stress (Panic Attacks) I have been on Synthroid for 5 weeks now and I don't feel any better in fact I feel worse!

This morning I seen a commercial for a lawsuit against Yaz or Yasmin. Well since I am non Yasmin I immediately did a search and came across this site. I have literally been sitting here all night reading all the comments from different women and now know what my problem is. My problem is YASMIN! I am not taking this anymore and have an appt with my Dr tomorrow to have them do whatever they need to do to see if I have any blockage or any other damage from using this pill. My chest pains and the tightness in my chest are so severe that it takes my breath away and I am only 24! I am not ready for children and don't want to deal with bad periods like I had before getting on the pill but I can not take this rise. PLEASE if you are on Yasmin please stop taking it immediately and call your doctor Your life could depend on it!! I am hoping like other people who have commented that after a few weeks of being off the pill that I will feel so much better. I hope I am getting off of it in time before I have done any further damage.

I'm 31 been on YAZ for about 8 months, since then I have become, insane with rage, my emotions are out of control! I'm severely depressed, my skin looks great! the only bonus and I have developed over 21 painful cysts in each breast, so bad in fact some days I can even move my arm from the pain. I have stopped YAZ for a month before to see if it was the pill, my breast cysts went away, I was SO much happier and CALMER! the only bad reaction was my cystic acne came back in a huge way! I have my dermatologist on stand by because I have to officially dump this pill before I ruin my life and my marriage. I should never have gone back on it for such vain reasons as acne. I can't wait to feel like me again.

I started using Yasmin one month ago after using Yaz for a year. I had no problems on Yaz, but have had a multitude of problems that I believe are related to Yasmin. One of the side effects I'm having that I don't see listed by anyone else is insomnia. I am 45 years old and have never had any problems going to sleep initially or when I wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Before Yasmin, I would get up once in the middle of night to urinate, and now, I'm getting up 4 or 5 times a night and then sometimes, it takes me an hour to go back to sleep. I have also been feeling depressed and more anxious than usual. During the second week of Yasmin, I had gastritis that lasted for about a week. Gastritis is something I typically get 3 or 4 times a year, but I'm thinking it's another side effect caused by Yasmin. I've also had more nausea and bowel problems this month than normal. I have breast tenderness and I had unexplained rib pain for a few days. Finally, my belly seems to be more bloated than normal. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I WILL be switching to another pill.

My daughter took YAZ for about a year when a routine blood test revealed an elevated creatinine levels, a sign of reduced kidney function. We changed her to a different pill to control her heavy periods because of the warning about taking YAZ if you have any kidney issues. We are seeing a kidney specialist now and I believe the YAZ is the cause of the reduced kidney function. Any others have the same issue?

Thank god I found this site! My body has been going crazy ever since I started taking Yasmin two years ago and I didn't put two and two together until reading all of these postings and realizing the Yasmin might be the culprit.

I'm a healthy 31 y.o. who exercises regularly, doesn't smoke and has been on various oral contraceptives for the last decade without too many side effects beyond slight moodiness and minor weight gain. About two years ago I switched over to Yasmin. About two months ago I came across this site as I was researching hypertension which I had developed. I was confused and didn’t know what was causing it as I am healthy, unstressed and have a history of low blood pressure. But as soon as I found this site it all started coming together and I realized Yasmin had done much more than raise my blood pressure. I immediately went off the pill and almost right away many of my side effects went away. Here's what I've experienced since being on the pill:

-Weight Gain: Almost right away I gained ten pounds. I’ve effortlessly lost five of those pounds since going off the pill.
-Seborrheic Dermatitis: After a few months of being on Yasmin I developed a painful scalp condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis. Side effects of this are inflamed scalp, redness and most importantly, hair loss. The doctor said it is generally brought on by stress but on further research I saw that it is also caused by hormones, so it wasn’t a stretch for me to realize Yasmin might be the culprit once I saw this site. Over the last couple years I’ve been using all sorts of prescription shampoos to make the problem go away and nothing helped. But as soon as I went off the pill my scalp condition cleared in only a month without the use of shampoos.
-High Blood Pressure: Before I went on the pill my BP was about 100/70. During the time I took Yasmin my BP slowly climbed to above 140/90. Within two weeks of going off the pill my BP was back down to pre-Yasmin levels.
-Irregular Heart Beat: After about a year and a half of being on the pill I started to suffer from seriously irregular heart beat which went away immediately after I got off Yasmin.
-Hyperpigmentation: I know any birth control can cause this but none of them ever have until I went on Yasmin at which point it sprung up all over my face. I’m hoping the dermatologist can clear it up now that I’m off the pill.
-Tightness in Chest: Happened around same time as irregular heartbeat and is now gone.
-Anxiety: I’m not sure I can blame Yasmin for this one since going off Yasmin has not caused it to go away. But enough posters on this site mentioned it as a side effect and it wasn’t a problem for me pre-Yasmin, so I wanted to mention it.
-Irritability: I’m generally easy going and don’t let the little things bother me, but as soon as I went on Yasmin everything started to bug me. Now that I’m off Yasmin I’ve been in a much better mood.

If anyone is on this pill or thinking about going on it, I implore you not to. Too many risks especially since there are so many other pills out there that don’t have many side effects. I mean, there are close to 5,000 postings on this site, mostly against this pill while if you search the web there are almost no other pills that generate this kind of attention. That alone tells me something. I hope the makers of the pill pull it from the market immediately or doctors stop recommending it.

I am 18 years old. I started yaz three months ago. During my first month taking yaz, i had a really bad fever and started getting these electric shock sensations in my head. My heart was racing and I couldn't stop twitching. I was panicking and will skip the long er story but the doctor told me it was anxiety and an allergic reaction to my cough medicine and sent me home with vicodin and atavan. I got better and didn't have that sensation for the next week. However, I was growing increasingly anxious and panicky for no reason at all and would have long crying jags where I couldn't calm myself down. I am usually a very happy person, and I just feel so depressed. The shocks started coming again, along with the twitching and feelings of vertigo. I started thinking that maybe it could be the yaz causing it and went off it mid pack. I went to my doctor for the shocks and she had no clue. I had a mri of my brain and it came back normal. I have been off yaz for two weeks now, and have since seen a neurologist. She put me on an 80mg prednisone pack which she said would stop the shocks but only have me the worst migraine of my life and shaking so bad that I couldn't function or leave my bed for for four days. I went to a new neuro and am on an new migraine medication which seems to be working better as I am up and my headache is better. He seems to think the shocks are a result of yaz. Have any of you had this symptom, and the twitching? I feel like someone has turned an electricity switch in my body and I cant stop moving. I have no clue whats wrong with me and its really scary. The only way I can sleep at night is with ambien, and I cant stop twitching even during the day. If yaz can cause this why can they even sell this awful pill?

To all the women still taking this drug: I beg you to stop taking this medication and read all of the posts on this site!!!! Here is my story... I was on Yasmin for 6 years. About 4 years into taking the drug, I noticed a mass on my right side. It was a painful mass that I could easily feel, and it eventually because so uncomfortable that I could no longer sleep on my right side, and it affected basic movement. At the same time, I was beginning to show some side effects of Cron's disease (which runs in my family), so my gastro doctor told me to get a CT scan and an MRI. The tests revealed a gigantic mass on my liver and I was told to see a liver specialist right away. I went to KU Med and was told that I had to have emergency surgery right away, and that I was basically a walking time bomb.... If I tripped and fell, it could cause this mass to rupture and I could bleed to death. He also told me that if I had gotten pregnant while I had the mass, it would almost certainly lead to death for me and the baby. Nonetheless, they cut me open from the middle of my chest clear down to my belly button. They did a liver resection and removed my gall bladder and several lymph nodes. The mass on the scan turned out to be 2 grapefruit-sized benign masses, called Focal Nodular Hyperplasia - most commonly caused from the hormones in birth control pills!!!! Ladies, this was major surgery.... I was in the hospital for 9 days and out of work recovering for nearly 2 months.... and this all took place 2 months before my wedding!!!!!! The MASSIVE stress I endured caused me to have panic attacks and I thought I was going to literally die. Keep in mind that my CT and MRI were purely coincidental. If my GI doctor had not ordered the tests, I would have never known about the masses, and God only knows what would have happened to me.... Anyway, this whole ordeal has DRASTICALLY changed my life and affected all of the people I love, my husband included, who has to endure all of my pain and anxiety. BOTTOM LINE - IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT! TELL EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW!

If Yasmin is the same as Yaz, I'm pissed! It's supposed to treat pmdd? Well, I STILL get extremely emotional, my cramps are so bad I can take Darvocet-a nartcoic! and still have pain! I'm also starting to break out more now than I did when I was on my old pill. However, it is making my periods very light and short. Is there anything else I can do?

I am 29 years old and started taking Yasmin in January 2009....by month 2 I had severe pain in the nail bed of both hands....I kept hoping it would just go away...then 2 weeks later both hands hurt not just the nails...I started having to take advil just to get through the day...I figured it was the side effects of Yasmin b/c it was the only change in my lifestyle...I kept taking it thinking perhaps it was just my body trying to adjust....a couple weeks later my arms started to hurt....long story short, I stopped taking the pill in June 2009 and had to fly to my mother's house for help b/c I had gotten to the point that I was barely mobile and everything hurt...I felt like I was in an 80 year old's body....I had severe joint and muscle pains everywhere and I starting looking like Professor Klump, my hands and feet where so swollen I couldn't do anything (even picking up a pillow to make the bed hurt)...I asked my doctor if it could be the Yaz and he insisted no....I was told that it looks like I have arthritis...but I stuck to my guns and said that it was way too much of a coincidence that my health started deteriorating around the start of Yasmin.....my doctor decided that he could help me detox my body to get rid of any Yaz left in there and to see how I felt after....he did put me on celebrex (arthritis med) to relieve the inflammation and pain...I am also taking a diuretic to flush out my system...I am on day 2 and already feel better...I'm not sure if it's b/c of the celebrex or the detox, but I will know in 2 weeks when I finish all the meds.....after reading all these stories I feel a bit of relief...I'm not crazy, these symptoms really could be b/c of the Yaz!!

First of, let me say I am a Pharmacy Technician. I was on Yaz for about 5 months. It was OK. It wasn't strong enough to stop my periods until about 4 days into a new pack, it didn't do much for my skin, and it was $40/ month because there is no generic! I only kept taking it because it didn't make me nauseous (I am very sensitive to nausea).
After $40/month was a little too much, I went to my dr and wanted to be put on Yasmin (ocella) because it would only be $10/month and it has the same hormones as yaz which didn't make me sick, but it was .01mg stronger, which made me a little nervous. But I tried it, didn't make me sick AT ALL, cleared my skin up, periods start and stop on time, no cramps, cheaper generic, and I lost 17 lbs! I actually love this pill... it's a miracle serum.

Actually, I had been taking YASMIN for over a year with NO problems. I was on every other pill known to man, but suffered from Acne sooooo, MD put me on YASMIN and skin was clear with no bad side effects. Recently, my MD put me on YAZ and, now, I'm having bowel issues (hospital twice), migraines, cramps in my legs at night, bloating and acne coming back. YAZ sucks! I'm tired all the time and feel depressed, too. This is all new to me so I'm going to ask to switch back to YASMIN!

I have been on Yasmin for two and a half months now. It was prescribed to me by my doctor as a means of treating 2 cyst that developed because of my endometriosis as a means of avoiding surgery. He put me on it for 3 months but because I forgot to start the second pack for 2 weeks I had to start the 3 month period all over. The first month I took Yasmin the side effects were minimal but since I started taking it in May I have gotten a constant vaginal itch and pain, my eye sight is blurry, stomach feels sick and I get stomach pains, neck pains, shoulder pains, leg pains and hip pains, pains in my face, little or no lubrication during intercourse, constantly have to urinate, stomach feels like its tightening and has gotten really big, gets short of breathe easily, bad headaches, I feel as though I would pass out any minute when I am standing or walking, I am disinterested in everything, I get nausea, I have lost all interest in sex, I feel bloated all the time, I have lost all taste in my mouth, feels very tired and fatigued all the time, I feel very sad for no reason. I keep feeling sick all the time and have lost interest in food. When I am sitting I feel the pains in my legs and hip even more. I am falling into a state of depression and it is beginning to show at work. I am also gaining a lot of weight, rapidly, and really don't know what to do about it because I am very careful with the things I eat, how they are cooked and the time I eat also and I do exercise. I really don't know if I should continue until I finish the 3 months to see if it works for me or if I should stop taking the Yasmin and ask my doctor to try something else. I just don't feel altogether right now.

This site is the answer to my prayers. I have been on YAZ for 2 years and at first it was amazing. Regular and light periods, no mood swings, no breast tenderness and no weight gain. The past few months it all changed. I thought it was just a funk I was going through but its to the point it is affecting my life. I have developed severe anxiety and a feeling of sadness for no reason. My life is great; new job, great relationships, financial issues are fantastic. I have been having panic attacks out of the blue and it is getting worse as well as weird muscle twitching daily. I felt like I was losing my mind, because I can't stop feeling that way. I went to the doctors and acupuncture to see if it could help. I noticed it was worse a week before my period and during my period and the week after. It fluctuated all the time. Then one day my eye sight was blurry and couldn't see straight for 20 minutes. I've been thinking about Yaz and if its a side affect so decided to get off of it. Now that I did my own research and seen that people are having similar side affects , it gives me an even more red flag to get off it. I hope and pray that these feelings go away now that I am getting off it.

I just began using Yaz about 4 months ago and I have had the weirdest thing happen. I have massive headaches (never had them before) and this weird pain in me face (right about my right cheekbone) At first I thought it was a sinus infection.. Major pressure and headaches are easy to diagnose. Then when it didn't go away I got scared. An emergency room visit and a neurology appointment later (everything is "normal") I have decided it HAS to be the Yaz. I have also been having weird ear "fullness" Out of nowhere my ears will just pop like i'm going up a mountain...The took me off that and put me on Yasmin. Isn't it the Same pill? Anyway.. has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If so, how long did it take to go away? Thanks!!

I've been taking Yaz for about a year and a half. I also take lexapro to help even out extreme mood swings I would get (2 weeks before my period). For a while, probably the first year, I just felt more tired, which I thought was because of the lexapro. In the past 6 months though, I have been getting a stomach flu type illness every month, 3 days after I start my new pack of pills. I also have a very sensitive stomach and get sick easily. I recently lost 5 pounds (from 125 to 120) without making any lifestyle changes. Also, this year I've had low iron levels, and noticed my stools are black from time to time. I went to the doctor today to have my blood checked and also submitted stool samples. Could this all be from Yaz? I have been getting the flu (or flu like illness) way too much this year, and my boyfriend never catches it from me. I am worried about going off the medication because the yaz and lexapro have really controlled my mood swings, and my skin gets much worse without birth control. I'm just worried something more serious is going on here. I am 26 and a healthy eater, so I don't understand all the stomach problems! Does anyone else have these issues? Especially after starting a pack of pills (I feel fine the week of my period)...

Side Effects: hair loss, mood swings, decline in sex drive, headaches

Thank God for this site! I started taking Yaz around June 2008. I recently decided to stop taking the pill and had a tubal ligation. Around October 2008, I noticed that my hair in the mid-top was thinning. I've always had very thick hair. It could have actually started before then, but I didn't notice it until then. Now, I have a small bald spot in the front of my head which is very hard to cover up. I stopped the pill in April 2009. In addition to hair loss/thinning, my sex drive declined, I was moody, had headaches, extremely tired, and always had an "attitude". I hope the bald spots do not continue.

I was on Yaz for almost 2 years. Lost weight, no problems with my skin, no change in sex drive. I felt like an absolutely normal person, but with shorter periods. Every other birth control pill I have taken has made me gain weight or become moody, but Yaz made me feel like I wasn't on a pill at all! My period only lasted about 3 days when I was on my last pill pack...I was part of a study on it so I was getting it for free...my only regret is that it's so expensive, because it's so much better than anything I've ever taken, and now that I'm not in the study I can't afford it anymore!

I am in my second month of Yaz having switched from Yasmin -- Yasmin (or rather, the generic form) did not seem to have perfect results for my acne and after a year I decided to switch to Yaz because I thought that the longer amount of the drospirenone would help my skin.

Unfortunately, it seems as if my skin has gotten WORSE. I have no cysts on my face, but I have a lot of small whiteheads on my forehead and around my chin. And additionally, I seem to have little bumps on my chest and back -- places where I never had acne before. While my skin was not perfect with Yasmin, it was DEFINITELY clearer and more manageable, and this is just terrible.

I am worried that this is because Yaz has less estrogen than Yasmin. Is it the estrogen or the drospirenone that helps prevent acne? Is this just my skin reacting to the change in hormones? Should I stick with Yaz for a third month, or should I switch back to Yasmin at the end of this second month? How long should I wait before giving up?

I should also note that I started Epiduo gel about two and a half weeks ago, so I don't know if that would contribute to the fact that my acne has been getting worse, too.

HELP!

I thought that all the problems I've had the last 3 months that I've been on Yaz were unrelated....I thought between stress, IBS, my job as a teacher, and being a single mother, that all my problems are just stress. I've been on the pill for three months. I am taking the pill to help with adult acne and mood swings. I really think that it has helped both of those things. However, the last month I have noticed some symptoms and I think that maybe I can tie them all to yaz???? Here's the list:
Headaches
Weight gain
Muscle cramps
Extreme GI problems (worse than my normal IBS)
Blanking out (short time frames where I do weird things and I don't remember them). Is this a symptom? I haven't read about this one. I'm scared to death I have some mental disease or something! Anyone else have this problem? I am so scared that I've lost my mind and have gone crazy.
Night mares
Anxiety
Panic attacks (I think)
Abnormal heart beat

I had a lot of the negative side effects listed above by others including depression, fatigue, trouble concentrating, aching body, restless nights, irritability, my arms and legs falling asleep and so on. Then I found out that i had a vitamin b deficiency - a lot of these symptoms are also symptoms of vitamin b deficiency. Yaz along with other oral contraceptives interferes with the bodies ability to absorb vitamin B. Taking vitamin B supplements a few times a day has helped me. They are water soluble so you do not have to worry about overdosing- if you take more than your body needs you will just pee out whatever is extra.

Although this isn't a side effect I wasn't quite sure where to post it... But my question is: Do you know anyone or did you get pregnant while using the Yasmin birth control pill? I know that these pills make your body think it's pregnant but I think I may actually be pregnant. Although I don't "feel" pregnant my body sure is acting like it is, I.E. sore breasts, weird cravings and aversions to food, headaches, very tired, very hungry etc. Has anyone had these side effects too and you weren't pregnant? Thanks!

I was recently put on Yasmin, I've just finished up my first pack. Some of my friends told me to read the blogs on it cause it's not all that it's cracked up to be. I was originally put on it due to PMDD. I get hellacious PMS and i was told that this pill can help. I also take antidepressants to treat mild depression, so the low/single dose hormone is essential for me. Throughout the past month I've had two migraine headaches which is unusual. I do get headaches but not like these. I can't even open my eyes, eat, or have any noise or light around. It's really awful. I do have the dizzy spells and some gnarly pain in my lower abdomen and in between my shoulder blades. It feels like cramps but I'm not having a period yet. I'm hoping these side effects will go away as my body adjusts but frankly, from these blogs I'm really leery to keep taking this pill. Any recommendations for a girl who needs a monophasic pill and need extra help staying sane during PMS? Any news helps. Thanks and best of luck to us all.

I was on Yasmin from the day it hit the market a million years ago and absolutely love it. Absolutely no side effects (other than my skin looked amazing and I could eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight!). I loathe Ocella, the generic version. I was on it for four months and am now trying Yaz (which, for the time being, does not have a generic so my insurance will cover it). If Yaz doesn't give me the same results as Yasmin, I'm going to just pay the penalty and get the brand name Yasmin...I love it that much! For everyone complaining after 2 days or 2 weeks on the pill (any pill), you need to remember that any transition is going to mess with your chemical balance. We're talking about something that chemically moderates your natural chemical composition. You really need 3 months to fully adjust.

I just spent the night in th ER for chest pains due to Yasmin.

I had been on it for a month and since the beginning I felt something was wrong.. My leg started to spasm and I got these sharp pains in my chest that moved to the back between my shoulder blades. Was told that it was acid reflux and to take tums. Didn't help. Eventually the spasms moved to my upper body (back, arms and head). My EKG, blood test and chest x rays were normal, but I still feel headaches and a weird tingling in my arms and ears are painful sometimes. All these things pains come and go so I have no clue what it can be. Stopped taking it 2 days ago and I'm hoping that it will go away on it's own without doing permanent damage.

Has anyone had similar problems that resolved on it own after stopping?

I am really worried! I have taken Yasmin for a year until my doctor switch me to Yaz and Ive been taking that for two years. So for 3 years I have been taken a pill that now has a lawsuit! I have been getting these side effects as well; the tiredness, the vomiting (when my brother and I used to live together, we would eat the same things and sometimes I wont throw it up later, yet he would be fine) I cry a lot! i mean alot! I had people tell me that I may be Bipolar and so I didn't think that these side effects had anything to do with the birth control I have been using for over 3 years. I also had my gallbladder taken out last year and the doctors told me they didn't know why at my age, my gallbladder decided to fail on me. I also have been getting really weird headache on the right bottom back of my head (light a hard tight headache) and now that someone has pointed out nightmares, I have also noticed that since ive been taking yaz i have also been having these weird bizarre dreams every other night or so. again didn't know that this was due to the pill, i thought it was my lack of rest. I also have been experiencing this weird flashing dot in my right eye that has been going on for a year and a half now. Im really worried that these side effects are due to this pill. I don't have a sex drive neither, as a matter of fact, i haven't had sex in two years! I also have that funny 'fluid' feeling in my ears and its been extremely hard to concentrate these past years. Im really worried, I am going to stop taking yaz after this pack is over.

For all of you that has had problems with Yasmin or Yaz, I'm sincerely sorry. I'm really curious though to all of you, has anyone that read the leaflet that comes with the birth control box, have any problems? If you read that it may increase potassium which may cause serious heart and health problems so it would be good to get your potassium level checked before taking it. Side effects usually go away after 2-3months, has anyone have problems longer than that and ended up finding out what was the problem? I just wanted to know because my girlfriend is about to take it...and I wanted to know if one knew about the effects of this pill, and what precautions they had taken. Okay, thank you.

I took Yaz for a few months last year and I had to quit taking it because I got to where all I did was cry all the time. I became so depressed I couldn't even be looked at with out crying. My husband took my Yaz away. It took around 2 months after quitting taking Yaz for those symptoms to go away and in those 2 months my hair was falling out by the handfuls. I went to the doctor and had lab work done even thyroid and nothing was to blame. I feel that it was Yaz as this pill is evil.

I started a new job in January as a nurse and started to experience what I thought were stress attacks. I always new I had a fast heart rate 124 beats per minute at times but just thought it was the way my body was. So for the last few months I have been angry, tired, had heart palpitations through out the day and just have been feeling miserable. I have been on Yasmin for 4 years. The other day at work I felt my heart pounding in my chest and checked my heart rate and it was 140 beats per minute, my blood pressure was up (I normally have low bp) and I felt dizzy. I went to my GP after work and he suggested seeing a heart specialist as I was in sinus tachycardia. I decided to do some research into whether Yasmin could cause these symptoms as I felt there must be a reason. I am so glad that I found this sight!
I am an emotional reck at the moment and am so tired!

I had very bad experience on Yaz (which I know isn't exactly the same at Yasmin, but they are sister pills). If you need help in your recovery process, I'd recommend you visit http://www.createforum.com/yasminsideeffec/viewforum.php?f=1&mforum=yasminsideeffec. There is a lot of great info and support on that site.

I am telling the story of what has happened to my wife on YAZ.... My wife is a 23 year old female, previously in good health, 5'5", 120 lbs, and a non-smoker. In January 2008 she gave birth to our amazing daughter. She has rebounded back to the same shape as she was before birth. Well originally, she had the non-hormonal IUD implant for birth control. Her body rejected it and it had to be removed after about 2-3 months. After it being removed, the Doctor recommended she take this new birth control YAZ, because my wife had previous problems with hormonal birth controls. Well, my wife started taking YAZ. Late summer 2008, my wife began complaining about feeling tired and weak all the time. She went to the doctor a few times about it and they could not determine the cause. Well, in December of 2008, while working her job as an EMT on an ambulance, my wife began feeling light headed and weak. They put her on the cardiac monitor and found her resting heart rate to be 160 BPM. They immediately rushed her to the ER. The ER doctor immediately admitted my wife into the INTENSIVE CARE UNIT! After a couple days, they determined that she had micro pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) that they believed were caused by YAZ and that blood tests showed no pre-existing condition that would cause it. They informed her that they were a known side effect of YAZ. Well due to her heart trying so much harder to push the blood around the clots, he heart became weekend and began heart failure. Her Ejection Fraction was at 30%, which is about equal to a 70 year old in heart failure. A normal ejection fraction is 65%. The heart is a non-repairing muscle. As a result of this condition, she was prevented from working by her doctor, she cant drive, and cannot be alone for fear that her heart will stop. Well, of course the FMLA has now run out (March 2009) and her work has informed her they don't intend on letting her come back and her Doctor will not allow her to go back. I am currently working overseas as a US Department of Defense security contractor just to try and make ends meet. Because of the current economy, I cant even come home to take care of my wife and daughter because we wont be able to afford to live. I encourage everyone to avoid this medication. Please don't let your life get ruined by this birth control. My wife is 23, may need a heart transplant, or may die at anytime and I cant even come home to take care of her. This medication has ruined our lives.

i just got off of the phon with my ob's office having spo9ken to her nurse about YAZ. i have been on it for a month and for the last week i have been having pain in my calf and behind my knee. i am worried about a DVT or something serious. i wonder if a doctor would do some tests to tell me if i have blood clots or not because i am worried. the pill has greatly reduced my horrible pms symptoms but i don't want to dye of a pulmonary embolism! they may take me off of the pill, don't other pills also have a risk of causing blood clots?
