I have been on Yaz for over a year. I loved it at first b/c my moodiness was gone. My periods became shorter and shorter but then I stopped having periods all together. It has been 9 months without a period. I went to a GYN 4 months back and she said its okay not to have a period, but then I went to a different one a week ago and now I am having blood work and Ultra sounds. I have stopped the pill. I was completely normal before I got in this pill and now all of a sudden my cervical lining is very thin and I could have problems getting pregnant now. It is heart crushing b/c I am married now and want to have a kid so bad. I wish I never took the pill. I am a nurse and have been reading the physicians guide to medications at our hospital and i think i have been having problems from it for a while and never put 2 and 2 together. migraines, problems wearing my contacts. I find out this evening my results from my US and blood work. I would really do some research before you take it.

I know birth control pills affect everyone differently, this is what happened to me. I started taking Yaz in January after being on Yasmin for 6 years (I had severe abdominal pain on Ortho Tricyclin and Yasmin gave me immediate relief. I had PMDD the last 6 months I took Yasmin and asked to switch to Yaz after seeing commercials on it, other than that I had no problems being on Yasmin for 5 1/2 years). The second month of Yaz, my PMDD went away, I felt normal and loved being on Yaz. I haven't had any weight gain, have mild cramping about a week before my period starts and my period is about 4-5 days and I hardly get bloated but I get a severe headache the day my period starts. The last 3-4 months, I've noticed I've had no energy but still try to exercise, I feel so tired no matter how much sleep I get, at times I don't feel very alert and have to focus hard when driving, have bouts with feeling depressed, and occasional constipation. I didn't have any vaginal dryness but often felt like I didn't have the energy to have sex. I had a blood screening last month which came back normal, this month I noticed my hair seems thinner. I suspected Yaz was the problem then I knew for sure after I found this website. My OB/GYN called in a new prescription for Yasmin today, I'm hoping that will help again - at least until I see him in a couple months, and that the PMDD symptoms do not return.

Hello everyone. I have been taking YAZ for a little over two years now. It started off great. My mood was better, my cramps and back pain was diminished. However, over the last few months all of these symptoms and more have come back in a rage. I have not had a period in months and I have extreme pain in my uterus when I have sex. I have decided to stop taking my pill and see if I become regular again. I will keep you all posted. I don't know if it is all because I have been on it for so long or what, but it's freaking me out. I'm supposed to have a period. I've taken 4 pregnancy tests over the last 4 months and they are all negative. I also have HPV and I'm not far from cervical cancer. So if this pill is causing all of these problems, I want to stop them and have a baby before I have to have my cervix removed. Good Luck to all of you.
Also if anyone else is having any sort of similar issues please let me know.

Hi,
I've been taking YAZ for 2 1/2 weeks. First I should tell you that I suffer from PMDD and I wanted to give this a try. I would eat none stop...bad stuff like donuts and fried foods and I was just very touchy and angry for no reason with no energy. I know it's still early but I did have the extreme fatigue, sharp painful headaches, blurred vision, muscle aches the first couple of weeks but yesterday and today I feel GREAT! To early yet to notice if my moods will continue to improve or not be so drastic before I start my period but this is exactly the time that I would start being a monster before...I did feel a little sad during the first couple of weeks but that has gone away! I'm happy except I have noticed some hair loss just in the last couple of days. I hope this is temporary until my body adjusts to the medication because if you suffer from PMDD you will know that the minor initial side effects are definatley worth it (except I would rather have my hair and be mean) lol...we will see. I hope this helps...Sex drive is fine so far...Please write something regarding hair loss if you have been taking it longer and yours stopped after awhile. I don't wanna lose too much. Take care! God Bless Women...We have to be strong and we are!

Hi I am 33 and has had a bilateral tubal ligation (cauterization) and I a have stopped having a regular monthly cycle for the last 2 years My doctor prescribed this BC for me over a year ago, however I did not fill the prescription. But about a month ago my period finally came after being absent for about 4 months. It was very heavy, bleeding through my clothes and feeling weak. After having my period for about 2 weeks I decided to go to my obgyn to get some help, she gave me provera for 5 days to stop the bleeding and said that I should take the yaz to regulate it. The provera stopped the bleeding for 3 days then I started to bleed again. She said that was normal. I started the yaz about 9 days ago, and began to feel very sick. I wanted to vomit all the time, my head hurt like crazy, I became very moody, restless in the night when its time to go to bed and ends up staying up all night. I ended up missing days from work and when I did go in I would leave early. I decided to stop taking it and for the last two days have felt better. However I have started bleeding again. I really don't know what to do but I don't think I want to continue taking any form of BC.

After reading some of you stories, it makes me realize the things I've been experiencing lately has to do with Yaz. The doctor in the beginning said this is the best bc pill ever! no weight gain nothing! RIGHT! I've been eating the same my whole life and I have put on at least 8 lbs. Worst of all, I think it has something to do with my sudden hair loss in the front of my hair! I've been on Yaz for almost 4 months now and am noticing these things. Has anyone else experienced these things mainly the hair problem???

I have been on Yaz now for about 4 months ...it was fine the first month but now it is horrible. I have severe headaches, back pain, stomach hurts all the time, and i have been on my period for two months. This is ridiculous. I called my gyno about this and they said that the first few months it would do that to just wait a little while. Well why didn't they tell me this to begin with. My advice DO NOT take this pill. I am doing everything i can to get off of it!

I was on this for 4 months, i didn't like it. I had longer periods that were just as painful as before i got on BC, and had periods that would make me not even able to move without sharp pains, these cramps were not like that but the same amount of pain. I also was very very dry and unable to hardly eat anything without having nausea....

I just quit Yaz 8 days ago, was on it for 6 months. I had the copper t iud in for 4 months but the pain and non-stop bleeding was too much so I thought I'd give the coolest, newest pill out on the market a try. First week was awful; headaches, fatigue and nausea, but I knew I had to give it 3 months. First 2 months it really helped with cramps and bloating, but slowly the mood swings crept in. I was very emotional, depressed, random bouts of anger, bloating, cramping, 2 periods per month and spotting, gained 8lbs, uncontrollable hunger, appetite was ridicules. But the reason I felt I HAD to stop taking it was the fatigue, I could no longer do my 6 mile jogs, I struggled to walk to get the mail, I was for the first time in my life a couch potato. Before I began Yaz I was 115lbs, 5'7, have always been very active and eat only 100% organic health food, drink only green tea and water. Needless to say I was in shape, cellulite free my entire life till now. On the 5 month of Yaz I noticed cellulite on my legs!!! I was know as a sweet and very patient lovable girl, NOT ANYMORE! I used to never use bad words, now I use the F-word all day long, I pick fights with everyone and feel sooo angry all the time. I hope sharing my story helps other women understand that it's not them, it's this awful drug. I am going to use the LadyComp for bc, I will NEVER again put synthetic hormones in my body.

I cannot tell you how relieved I am to have found this site! I have been taking YAZ for just over 4 months. I started it to try to lessen menstrual flow, not for birth control as I already have my tubes tied. I am a former professional athlete and very in-tune with my body. I am currently 43 and had my tubal at 29.
I started having issues fairly early on, but they were gradual, yet intense. Two things showed up - memory loss and extreme mood swings. I started having difficulty remembering the simplest things and would forget parts of conversations had only minutes earlier. Then the mood swings started. I am a very stable person, even around my period. I began having suicidal thoughts for no reason at all. One day fine, the next day wanting to end it all.
I have put on 14# in the 4-month period, visible cellulite now on my thighs. Vaginal dryness, brown gunky, pasty residue after my period (which never actually stopped) and decreased sex drive.
I called the doctor and stopped taking them as of today after finding this site!

Hello everyone..
I've been on YAZ for about a week now. My MD prescribed it because of my hormonal fluctuations before my period cause me to get a nasty yeast infection EVERY MONTH! ugh... The purpose was to stabilize my hormones (he wanted me to skip the placebo pills and only have a period once every three months). The first few days that I took this I felt okay. I noticed heart palpitations the second or third day that are still present. Yesterday I started noticing memory problems (little things like not being able to remember if I flushed the toilet or closed the garage door, followed by obsessive thoughts of needing to check on every little thing). I've also been more tired than normal since day 3 or 4. Today I'm almost a week into the pills and I had trouble sleeping last night and woke up this morning with EXTREME moodiness and a headache. I cried for 3 hours this morning for no reason and totally went off on my husband when he called me during his lunch break - the first REAL fight we have had in almost a year!!!! I also started spotting yesterday with cramps and today it's heavier. I'm not due for a period for at least 2 more weeks. I called my GYN and told him I would no longer be taking these pills. I'll happily deal with monthly yeast infections over feeling like a crazy woman. I haven't felt like this since I was diagnosed with post partem depression 3 years ago (which has been completely gone for at least 2 years - cured by 4 months of zoloft). You all know your bodies and yes we respond to things differently, but there's no need to put yourselves through this.. My advice to other women - if you are sensitive to your hormonal fluctuations, don't try YAZ!

i've been on Yaz for 4 months. My doctor switched me, trying to correct what he thought was vaginal dryness caused by ortho tri cyclen lo. It wasn't at all. I've had the same sexual problems.
But, I've had a horrible time with Yaz. My period has been all messed up. My period usually comes one day, and is horribly heavy for one day. I mean, like gushing heavy. Then it turns brown for the next 5 days, sometimes longer.
Also, my moods have been weird. I have random mood swings now. Where I want to cry at one point for no reason, then I go back to normal. But, today was the last straw. On my way to work, I felt a random crying spell come over me. Then it turned into depressed that made me want to kill myself. So, I'm assuming the mood altering parts in the pill are similar to anti depressants, and made me feel suicidal.

Thank you all for sharing. I couldn't figure out why for the last 4 months I have been extremely exhausted and the only thing I had changed in my life was starting Yaz. This morning I just couldn't take it anymore so I started to google "side effects" from Yaz. I had gone to my doctor and told her there is something wrong but I don't know what it was. She blew it off and said it was depression and told me to take anti-depression medication. I have had major depression in my past and know what it feels like and I was 100% sure that there was something strange happening to my body, not depression. My other side effect, besides the common ones many people wrote about was severe body aches. I am 34 and it feels like I am 80. It is hard for me to get out of bed without giving a good holler. My moodiness, sleeplessness, bloating, headaches, body aches, and feeling exhausted 24 hours a day has halted my life. I am stopping Yaz TODAY!!!!

I'm 20 years old, and I've been on Yaz for five days now. The nausea just started this morning. I'm hoping it will go away, but the more I read I see that it usually takes 3 to 4 months for that to die down.
Is there anything to help with the nausea?

I find it strange that everyone has hated the YAZ pill...I am 19 years old and have been on it since September....my periods are only 2 days now...i don't even have to wear a tampon....yes i have started to get more migraines, but it has TOTALLY CLEARED up my skin!!! It has been amazing!!! I have always had moderate acne, but this pill has gotten rid of it completely. And oddly enough I would say it has not decreased my sex drive...seems more like a definite increase....Yes i still get bad cramps, but I have always had them so i don't know if thats the pill or what...ive only experienced nausea a few times....i have had NO mood swings or depression....oh and I have even lost a little weight...usually I averaged about 116 and watched what i ate...but now i eat whatever i want and i stay around 110....!!! (i don't exercise too often) i can tell it has increased my metabolism....overall i would say this pill rocks, and you gotta stay on it for at least 4 months and take it consistently everyday at the same time to get good effects.

I am 19 I started taking the Yaz pill over a year ago. At first all was well . I was very happy with the pill. But I then saw my eyes were going I for some reason started having problems seeing. Which was new to me because Ihave 20/20 vision. And I had head aches . Chest pains . and worse bleeding. I started bleeding uncontrollably . My boyfriend took me to the hospital and they found nothing. So I waited and I got worse . the bleeding was heavier and the mood swings got worse. I then went to a hemo. doctor he ran about 40 tests and nothing. I was told should take 2 a day pills for 4 months then I could start back on my YAZ! My doctor NEVER told me that pill was the reason for my bleeding or any side effects I was having. Hospital Visits.. Money waisted ... Meds bought ... and blood taken ... and it was all the Yaz pill. I AM STILL UNDER FURTHER TESTING ...SEE MORE PROBLEMS DUE TO THE PILL. DON'T TAKE IT!

So I've been on Yaz for over 4 months now. I'm 23 years old and have never had bc before (don't need it) My GYN put me on this pill to prevent another ovarian cyst rupture. (i was hospitalized in Dec because i had a 4cm cyst on my ovary that filled with blood and ruptured. Very painful!!) so like i said, i am taking this to prevent that again since Yaz stops ovulation.
The first month was pretty rough. (like i expected) Extreme mood swings, very tender breasts, headaches, slight nausea, and my preiod was a week and a half late then lasted for 16 days and was VERY heavy.
Onto month 2: Same mood swings, breasts still extremely tender, reduced amount of headaches and my period came on the 3 placebo day and was VERY light this time lasting only a day and a half.
Month 3: No more mood swings, breasts no longer tender although bigger in size, Extreme nausea but only lasted for 4 days, and this time my period was more normal ( lasting about 5 days and not too heavy or light).
On my 4th month, things seem to be normal. GYN says i lost some weight from Yaz even though it has made me feel bloated so i thought i had gained weight. Weird. But my period seems to be on a timed clock now coming every 3rd placebo.
So like the GYN's tell you, It takes up to 3 months for your body to get used to the hormones being added to your body. Expect some side effects for a while. Everyone is different but for me the side effects diminished after the 3rd month. Hope this helps. :D

I have been taking YAZ for about 4 months. I hate it. I am 23 and started taking yasmine when i was 17. Before that I had 2 week periods with very severe cramping. It would cause vomiting and diahreah. I stayed on yasmine for 4 years and I was extremely happy with it. When I was 21 I had a lyproscopy and was diagnosed with endometriosis. It is the cause for my severe cramping and heavy periods. I then was on a shot called lupron for 6 months then started lo estrin. Hated that, switched to YAZ. My symptoms include weight gain, acne (which i have never had) on my face and chest, severe breast tenderness (felt like my nipples were being pinched with clothes pins or something), extreme mood swings (i spend hours crying and being angry), so tired, depression, intermitent nausea, dehydration, fatigue etc. I also have not had a regular period since beginning. My last official period was in November, I then had some spotting and then I had no period for about 10 weeks. I tested over and over for pregnancy but I was not. I finally had a period and it was like i was 17 again. I am just miserable. The ONLY positive is that I gained a cup size!! I was a 34A now I'm a B! I asked my doctor for yasmine but she said she wanted me to try yaz because it has a lower estrogen dose which is favored for endo. I don't care, i would honestly take longer REGULAR periods instead of feeling crazy. I am going back to yasmine. I like my doctor but I will find a new one if she won't help me. YAZ and Lo estrin 24 were both horrible!

Ive been on Yaz for close to 4 months, I kept waiting for the side effects to go away...
my biggest gripe in the beginning was weight gain ( but then again i always feel like I'm gaining weight, and I'm also trying to quit smoking so that doesn't help).
Now i noticed that i have almost no sex drive, and even when my boyfriend manages to get me into bed, its almost impossible for me to have an orgasm. In the beginning this was not an issue.
Again, I'm not 100% sure if this is attributed to Yaz but from reading other posts, it seems like other women have the same experiences. I don't know whether to try a different type of pill or get off the pill altogether...

OMG I am so glad I found this site!!! I have been taking YAZ for 4 months. I have been on/off several birth control pills, some with no side effects and some with. These are the worst!!! I felt like I was going crazy until I found this site. At first all I noticed was moodiness, instead of having PMS a couple days before my period I had it all month except for before and during my period. Then about 2 months into it I started feeling fuzzy headed, unable to focus, started having tingles in my arms and legs like when your foot is asleep. If I take the pill at night I have horrible night sweats and if I take it in the morning I am tired all day and have horrible dreams. The worst of it was I was having severe episodes of vertigo, the room starts spinning and I have to grab hold of stuff. It was really scary, I am a single mom and was scared that I might fall at home and my toddler would be unable to go for help. I thought maybe my iron or blood sugar was low so I went to the doctor and had a full work up on my blood - everything came back fine. The doctor wanted to send me for a CAT scan and I didn't want one as I had started wondering if it could be the pill. I am calling my gynecologist today to get it switched. Thank you so much for all your posts! Me, my family, and my job all were thinking I was going crazy or just a hypochondriac.
-- By ababb78 | Reply | Private Message meOn a side note - I do have 3 teenage cousins who take this pill and have no side effects. However I have always been very sensitive to medication. This pill may work for some, but not for me.
