i have had problems with acid reflux for approx 5 years now and have tried everything pretty much. i first went for tests and they did the one where you swallow the liquid metal stuff (barium?) and then a endoscopy. my regular doctor said i had a slight hiatal hernia after the barium test and after the endoscopy my stomach dr said i had acid reflux and didn't have a hernia so he started me off with nexium which worked good for a while but i began to have side effects . i would just feel not right mentally cloudy all day, extremely dizzy.after that it seemed like every drug he put me on (prilosec, aciphex, prevacid) seemed to have the same results. so i decided to see if i stopped completely if these feelings would go away and sure enough they did but the acid was soon to follow. i started taking zantac 150's and they worked but now i feel like i cant sleep at night and sure enough thats one of the side effects. i also read not to drink alcohol when using these drugs. so now i pretty much sit here not knowing what move to make next

Have been taking Zantac for about a week. 300 mg at bedtime along with Aciphex, 20 mg in the morning. I've been on Aciphex for several years.
These are all for GERD.

mY 11 year old son has a history of reflux, which he had taken Prevacid for in the past. He broke his arm and is taking NSAIDS, flaring up the reflux. Company's new insurance plan requires we have documented 2 week trial of zantac prior to approving Prevacid for use. He has been on Zantac now for four days and has had increasingly frequent watery diarrhea, stomach discomfort, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and loss of appetite. This is an unacceptable side effect profile for a medication for a child. Per the insurance company, he has to suffer with this for two weeks in order to get a medicine that we know works approved for payment. Insane. I will be taking him off Zantac as he is worse now than when he started taking it.

While I think Zantac worked very well I feel that I must alert you to a
memory problem I had been experiencing. After taking Zantac for quite a
few months I started to experience a severe lack of concentration if you
will an example would be - I would be talking with someone and words
that I normally used would not come to my mind, I mean even the simplest
of words. I checked the side effects and it was not listed, I started
to think I had the beginnings of dementia, it got worse and worse, one
day while reading the newspaper I came across an article on a study by
Zantac of people with color, and there it was exactly what I was
experiencing.
I am Caucasian and have had the same reaction as in the people in your
study.

While your product might have helped my stomach it certainly scared me
into thinking I had dementia. It has been quite a few months and my
memory is back to normal. Everyone forgets what they want to say every
so often and perhaps a word or two might escape you, but this was not
the case at all. I only thank goodness that I came across that article
and stopped taking Zantac immediately. While the stomach problems are
still with me at least I have my memory back.

I hope you look into this and make others aware that this could happen,
I hate to think that my memory problem would have been a permanent dementia.

I have a 9 month old baby. At the age of 2 weeks he started having a lot of stomach problems which included constipation, colics, vomiting, blooding. After several medical examination it was found he had acid reflux and allergic to regular baby formula. He was placed a special formula called Nutramigen. At the age of 5 months we have noticed him to be very hyper, won't sleep much even during the night. During the day he might sleep twice a day (app. 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.) for maybe 45 minutes at the most. He wakes up twice a night when before he was sleeping for almost over 8 hours. Like I said this happened at 5 months old. He is on Zantac twice a day. Could this medication be affecting him in this manner. He at times looks quite tired, stays still for a little while and it seems like he recharges and gets more energy. This is also taking a toll on me as I don't get too much rest and the interrupted sleep at night is affecting me. Please let me know anything that you can on this situation or who or where you can refer me to for more research. I feel something is going on with this medication.

Gas bloting, acid reflux and irregular bowel movement required me to take Zantac. I also suffer from severe asthma. After about a week of Zantac treatment, I realized that I was unable to get an erection, and lacked any sexual desire, even when stimulated by my female partner. This was devastating. I am in my early 40s, and have always been sexually active. I research the internet for possible ED symptons, and found out that prolonged use of Zantac can adversely affect an erection. I have now resorted to Pantoloc, instead of Zantac and hope to enjoy my relations with my partner once again. No more Zantac for me.

My daughter a freshman in college was just prescribed Zantac & Zytrec. She has been on the meds. for about 5months, and is extremely anxious, depressed, crying and very emotional. She was not the first semester, but this second semester she thought she was losing her mind. Until I did some research and found out what was going on,she wanted to quit school, after receiving a full scholarship to attend a private college. Now our next step is to regroup with her physician and find an alternative.Once discussing this with my daughter she really understands that this was exactly what is going on with her.I was so scared for her, but now that we have the information I think we can get through this.

peripheral neuropathy is my zantac "side" effect...the inability of your stomach to process Vitamin B12 is a common cause of peripheral
neuropathy and should be checked in anyone with symptoms/signs of a peripheral neuropathy. Gastric acid inhibitory drugs are being reported, related to prolonged use as an aid for acid suppresion, not allowing the growth of normal microorganisms in the digestive system. This seemingly rare effect inhibits the digestive acids the body incorporates to breakdown and allow absorbtion of vitamin b-12 into our circulatory system. Vitamin B-12 is the "food" our nerves drastically need to remain healthy and aid the nerves to be free from unusual and abnormal degeneration. This excrutiatingly painful condition is relatively high in diabetic patients due to circulatory anomalies associated with diabetes itself. The most common sufferers of this horribly painful affliction, sans diabetics, is long term zantac (or other acid blocker/inhibitors)use. Research pernicious anemia, it is a cause of vitamin B12 deficiency and is associated primarily with lack of acid production. I never read THAT side effect in the list of precarious, but usually long, as to cover any imagined re-action to a drug that can be faintly contrived and cover their rectums from recourse by simply stating...hmm, so sorry, didn't you read that in the danger side effects list before you began your physician prescribed treatment? Surely you read it, right between post menstrual syndrome for men and panties constantly gathering in a group causing a mass, or wad if you will? If I mass produce arsenic to use on acne, am I not culpable and/or responsible if a patient dies from arsenic exposure caused by the application of the arsenic to the acne region being absorbed and doing what arsenic does...such as kill people? BUT I disclaimed that side effect!!!! An acid inhibitor stopping the production of an essential acid?? Who would have thought that the "poison" would perform in the manner it was designed for and who in the most southern hemispheres of hell that showed up at any of their medical classes to earn that MD degree, didn't see that one coming...surely they knew there were "good witches" as well as "bad witches"...how do you discriminate between the two? I would have preferred to drink pepto, eat tums, drank alka-seltzer, or slept standing up as opposed to this lot I have drawn!

I was taking Zantac alongside an asthma medication... Advair. I started feeling constantly fatigued, couldn't sleep, and in general very very off. If you'll check the Advair reactions part of this site, you'll see alot of people report similar side effects to it.

My stomach started acting up again so i decided to take the Zantac 150 again. First 2 days i was constantly fatigued; dizzy, trembling, nauseous. 3rd day I could not sleep for the life of me. I'm writing this in an insomniac haze, but all things considered I'm not going back on the Zantac again. It's possible taking it again brought up the reactions I'd had to the Advair... but now I wonder which drug it was that I reacted to.

Outrageous anxiety! I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin and I didn't start feeling like this until I started taking the Zantac. My hands shake and I wake up having an anxiety or panic attack. This medication in not worth all this! I think I'll stick with the good ol' Pepto Bismol and Maalox!
