I have been on Zocor for 3 months and until I found this site I thought
my pain was in my head. I am having difficulty raising my arms over my head or reach around my back because of severe shoulder pain in both shoulders. I had normal chol until last year it was 240 and doctor put me on zocor when diet did not work. The shoulder pain is terrible. I have felt terrible on this drug and now I know why. I am seeing my doctor Weds for a blood test and will not be taking zocor again.

I am 33 years old and after a blood test about 6 months ago showed my cholesterol levels high my doctor prescribed me 40MG Zocor (actually generic Simvastatin). Since then I've started to forget things and just cognitively I'm slower and less capable. I also had more aches and pains and a weird creak in my knee showed up, but I really didn't key in on that stuff. I went back to my doctor and told him about the cognitive issues and he said "that shouldn't be a side effect of this drug".Well I am very glad I found this website because at least now I know I am not crazy. I stopped taking that garbage about 4 weeks ago and ever since that fog has been lifting.
I have also made a new commitment to myself to include more "heart healthy" foods into my diet and to completely eliminate all red meats as well. I realize there may be some validity to the studies done remarking that high cholesterol is an indication of something bad, but I am not convinced the medical community actually has a comprehensive understanding of cholesterol in the body. I will still go into the doctor to get my levels checked, but I will probably not go back to my old doctor. I'll probably find a doctor who is a little more open to other options. I hate to say it, but I have lost my confidence in my doctor. If I tried to pull something like that in my job as a computer network engineer my customers would simply say "it wasn't like this before you started". Jedi mind trick doesn't work buddy. My body wasn't like this before you gave me that stuff.

I am male 37 years old. In June 2007, my blood test shows 249 total cholesterol. After that, I was taking super B-complex, fish and flax seeds pills. It went down to 213 total cholesterol (40 HDL, 136 LDL and TRI 176). And I asked my family doctor to give prescription for Zocor(I asked particular drug because I will get good discount rate at my employer's place). he gave me Zocor 20 mg. After taking 1-month medication I felt some inconvenience during sex . You don’t feel it normal. I can’t do much exercise and some times feel depressed. I usually do 1-hour exercise or any form of exercise (Yoga). After Two months I tested my blood cholesterol level. It shows now total cholesterol 181(LDL 93, HDL 42 and TRI 223). And also showed ALT and urine protein little elevated. Now I stopped medication for past two days, feeling better at day time but night I am having weird dreams and indigestion problem. I guess these are withdrawal symptoms. I would go for natural medication like regular exercise, diet (oat meal, high fiber content, less sugar, less white rice). No more Statin drugs. Any one have same problem?

i thought my life was over. not even fourty years old and ask my doctor to write an order for a toilet lift. thats how bad my muscle hurt. getting in and out of cars, as though i were a 90 y/o. horriable! and we didn't know why. doctor did not make any refference to 'statins" . In addition to muscle death, restles leg syndrome found me as well. really thought i was dying from an unyet diagnosed disease. and where did that come from? all of a sudden everyone has it.
this was nonexistant not that long ago. similiar to the " bi -polor. every other person seems to have it or someone they know. I'm still mad. iwill never be the way I was prior to all this. I want to sue the shorts of the maker;'s and or the F.D.A.
don't they approve these drugs first? all comes back up the drain pipe . Does it not?. the cost alone from ill considered passage of such drugs does more harm than good. not only suffering but death. millions of dollars from the side effects. all these costs are passed on to the state and or one pocket book.
my cholesterol is o.k. now but with each blood test and blood donation i give mentions enzymes.. now i willl also check reports for(cpk) lookin to sue you ZOCOR..

Started Zocor in May 2005, took for approx. three weeks. Had been given samples by GP. Stopped June 10, 2005 due to problems. Following is a list of symptoms as they occurred. Head shake, thinking and speaking problems, difficulty swallowing, weakness, low back pain, muscle spasms, pain in legs (especially left leg) Kidney pain, dark urine for one day only, and especially extreme fatigue. GP said was Myopathy. didnt seem to know cause. Continued to get worse untill approx. July 15, 2005. Started phy therapy. This helped to build back the muscles lost but would only build to a certain point. Presently, april 2006, Most of the symptoms have abated but I still have difficulty walking and standing very long. Had to quit working, could not handle. I will keep updating as I progress. This has been some nightmare.

I am 34 years old, white, male, american. I am 6 foot 2 inches and weigh appx 215 pounds. My blood pressure had been creeping up a few years ago so I was put on a small dose of Benicar. No problems, BP went down. During a regular check-up with blood tests it was discovered that my cholesteral and triglicerides(have no idea if I'm spelling these corectly) were up. Cholesteral was 215 and trig. were through the roof. He put me on 10 mg per day and said we'll do blood tests in six weeks. About three weeks in I started cramping in my abdominal region. It got worse with alocohol intake but didn't seem to change much other than that. I complained to my doc's nurses and they said, "Zocor doesn't usually have ANY side effect." My blood test showed a drop in my numbers and no liver or kidney problems (according to my doctor). I stopped taking Zocor for about four days and felt better. I started again and now my cramping is worse than ever. My doctor hooked me up with another doctor and I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next week. I might stick it out until then to see if anything shows up but this website and these posts really worry me. Doctors I think listen to drug salespersons and not their patients too much. Wish me luck.

This post is about my mom she was put on Vytorin which is a combination of Zorcor and Zetia. Her cholesterol was not all that high but her Dr wanted her to try it to see if it would come down. She was on it for one month and her cholesterol droped from 195 to 86 BUT she was having really bad headaches and her neck would be stiff her legs hurt and she had blurred vision in her left eye only and shooting pain in the left side temple. Before taking Vytorin she was in pretty good shape for a 71 year old but not she is so tired all the time, I am really worried about her overall health. Yesterday when I took her back to her Dr to find out why she was still having these problems he said the medician should already be out of her system since she quit taking it on Nov 17. I requested that he send her to the hospital for blood test since Vyortin had been known to make blood test abnormal. I also requested a CoQ10 Blood Test which should show any damage to the muscle tissue which can be a side effect of the Vytorin it breaks down muscle tissue in some cases. I really think MD's need training on these drugs before giving to patients. Also do anyone know how long it takes these meds to get out of the systems. Has anyone else had these problems. Thanks for any response and help. Sharon

I am 61 years old and have always exercise and watched my weight. exercise and diet was not enough and the doctor put me on 10mg of Zocor for the last 5 years.
For the passed 3 years I have experienced severe pain, mostly on my knees and ankles that prevents me from walking, at times the pain is so bad that my wife had to take me to the emergency room. This year the pain is occuring more often, almost every week. I had several blood test and MRI's and the doctors can not find the reason for the pain. My cardiologist tells me that the pain is not related to Zocor because it should had happen at the begginig of using the medication. I know that I need to lower my cholesterol and tryglicerides, but after reading this page, I will be affraid to take this medicine.
Does anyone know any other method to lower Cholesterol and tryglicerides??????.

I started Zocar 3 years ago. Since then I have had (on a 1-10 pain scale) pain in my upper hamstrings (deep muscle pain in the lower buttocks or upper hamstrings). The pain is throbbing at a 1-2 level all the time. Sometimes it goes up to a 6-7. Overtime it had slowly exhausted me. I have gained wait due to less activity. I have visited multiply doctors with no diagnosis. I just found out about the side effects of Zocar. I am getting off. I had an MRI and multiple blood test yesterday. I will update this site in 30 -60 days to see if I have improvement in reduction of muscle pain.

Hi, I am a 57 year old male. I have just read all the problems experienced by others on Zocor. I was taking Lipitor for several years with a lot of lower abdomin pain off and on. I also developed trigger fingers in three finger of my right hand. I took myself off of Lipitor and in about 4 weeks all the lower abdomin pain was gone and I felt great again. Of course the trigger finger problem is still there, but that I can live with. Then about 2 months ago my doctor said my cholestrol was up and he wanted me to start on Zocor. He gave me enough samples to last until I go in for a blood test next week. I have decided that I will not take any more statin drugs. I have experienced a lot of pain in both my hips and down my legs. Muscles ache for no apparent reason. I feel out of breath and exhausted after just two flights of stairs. Tearing up at the least little thing, and a general crappy feeling. Sex drive is a problem and sleep problems, which I have never in my life had before. Also it feel like my heart is skipping a beat or something when I go to bed a night. Blood pressure and pulse are fine. I think depression is also a big problem with this drug. I would think long and hard before taking this drug. I believe that they need a better way to get your cholestrol down to a lower level.
