Like many posts describing side effects, I was not sure that all the new little health-related issues I've been noticing were connected to taking Zocor. I'm thinking that perhaps my issues are related to the drug, especially since the only other drug I take is Levothyroxine (for hypo-active thyroid). I have been on the generic for two months. (I'm a 39 year old female.)

In the first month, my total cholesterol score was 278. After taking it for one month with no change in diet or physical activity, it reduced to 207. So, the drug does work! Now I need to determine if the cost is worth it.

In the past week, I've noticed several of the side effects listed in some of the posts: sharp pain in knee (feels like there is a paring knife in it!); lower back pain; joints creaking and popping; skin on tips, sides, and underneath of fingers kind of blistering-hardening and peeling off; brain fog in the morning; difficulty maintaining a deep sleep; crazy dreams; general increase in skin blemishes; heartburn; loose bowel movements; and increased sinus congestion.

I am a 48 year old male. Was placed on Zocor last year. Since the day I was placed on it, I have felt weak, no ambition, no drive, feel like a zombie. I eventually had pain in my legs so severe that I had to take Hydrocodone so I could sleep. The skin on my thumbs and two first fingers peels off. I haven't had a good nights sleep since the second day I was on this crap. I haven't been taking it since June and still have a lot of problems. I still am very weak, no energy, tired all the time, skin is still peeling off my fingers, can't think, can't keep a straight thought. I have pretty severe pain in my hips that started when I was on Zocor. Also, my knees are very weak, and they pop every time I get up. At the time I stopped taking it, I was unable to make it up a flight of stairs.
My doctor constantly denied any link between any of this and the Zocor, but amazingly, after I stopped taking it, some of the symptoms reduced. I still suffer from many.
I was a small business owner with 7 employees and have since lost everything. I have been unable to find a job now for almost a year. The doctors are all "programmed" to think and tell you that these are good for you.

I learned from someone that had been on zocor that they had been having the same pain that I have been having. Tingling in my fingers, pain in my arms, back and leg pain so severe that I cannot exercise anymore. I also will be talking and right in the middle of a sentence will forget what I was talking about. I took myself off of the zocor four days ago. I visited my doctor today (9/28/06) this Doctor is not aware of any of these side effects from zocor. (now she is). I have been on this drug for approx. three years and am a 66yr old male. I might add that the tingling in my hands is starting to go away. I will find soem other drug to replace zocor.......... I will never take another statin as long as i live after what i have been through.

i was prescribed tricor for my triglycerides after angioplasty. 10 mg zocor was added then 20 for about a year now. My hands are so cramped and the pain in my fingers is so intense that I cannot sleep. I can't lift or hold anything and typing this letter is very painful. I find it hard to even hold the steering wheel when driving. My hands are in so much pain that I am 1 day off of zocor and and praying for relief.

I started Zocor 3 days ago and I could tell the second day that something was not right. I have had a headache for two days, my leg hurt last night so bad that it was a pain to walk, I have had a funny taste in my mouth, my muscles ache, my ears ring worse than they normally do, my fingers and my toes hurt, I feel like I am in a daze, I have had crazy dreams the last two nights, and I am tired. Now I did not get these things after I read about them on this site. I found this site when I started looking to see if anyone was getting side effects from Zocor. I have never been on any daily medication before and I will not continue to take this drug to see if these things subside. I've had high Cholesterol for the last 20 years, that I know of, and I will take my chances with some kind of natural approach. I'm sure God has provided us with a natural solution. Tom

I started taking Zocor in Feb 02,since then i have had tingling in my fingers, muscles soreness all over, and general feeling of fatigue. Seemed to have lost strength in hands also. dr put me thru every test imaginable,(one dr wanted to do hysterectomy because of my severe lower back pain) finally some told my husband about someone they knew who was having problems because of Zocor. Went to dr twice this week, he did realize it could be th Zocor and wants to wait and see how i feel after a couple of weeks. I am praying this is the problem and it is not too late to stop it and have no other side effects.

After taking 80 mg for about a year I noticed (after loosing
15 lbs) the following:
1) constant constapation
2) tingling in my hands.
3) weakness in fingers.
4) extreme taste degradation.
5) smell sensitivity.
After stopping zocor for 5 weeks symptoms 1,2,3
seems to have improved, taste is only marginaly
improved. I still can't take the smell of bleach
or gasoline, and coke tastes like acid.
I'm sure it is the xocor
