I am 27 years old, male, and have had type 1 diabetes since I was 8.
My doctor prescribed Zocor repeatedly in 2007(for high blood pressure) and I was reluctant to taking it because I have no respect for any of the miracle drug companies and feel that they are only looking to make money, not help anyone with their health problems. I finally started taking Zocor (generic) in Nov 2007, then started getting some strange side effects that my doctor never mentioned when I asked him.
My side effects were, but not limited to, muscle pain in the legs and back. I noticed sharp pains in my knee like arthritis and Charlie horses in the calf during time at sleep. I noticed these after about 1 week of taking the drug and lasted through till the end. I stopped taking the drug in Dec 2007 and been off it since. I have yet to talk to my doctor about it, but I talked to his nurse and she recognized the symptoms. I reached my conclusion long before speaking to her however.
Now 2 months have passed since I stopped taking the drug and the pains in my back and legs have disappeared. The arthritis type feeling in the knee has gone away. I have more flexibility and none of the pain that I felt while taking the drug. I am astounded that the clinical trial for this drug doesn't note the muscle pain; at least the notes from trials I found on the internet didn't note it as a side effect.

I have been taking zocor for about 3 years. Started out with 10 mg every other day, then every day; for nearly the last year I have been taking 20 mg once a day. It did lower my cholesterol enough to suit the doc. Did not really notice any symptoms at first. It seems I have been noticing more and more problems recently. Especially after my husband decided to tell me that he thinks something is very wrong. Maybe my problems are just age related. Most recently I have had two falls brought on by a simple "toe stubbing". For the past 3-4 months I have had unrelenting lower back pain and hip pain. Both to the point that I can't sleep and am having trouble walking. All of that I attributed to arthritis which I do have in my hands. The tingling, pins/needles sensations and foot pain started over 2 years ago but my doc said that couldn't be the zocor. My liver function was normal every time he checked. Diabetes has been ruled out. I am overweight so I just wrote off the fatigue to that. But - three years ago I was walking daily on our farm - up and down hills for over one hour at a time - and teaching high school full time. I am retired now and I don't think I could do that much walking because of the pain and stiffness. Does any body know how long it will take me to get rid of the symptoms? I stopped the zocor without the doc's knowledge day before yesterday.

I have been taking 40 mg of simvastatin for two weeks and I am experiencing terrible pain and stiffness in my hips from the time I get out of bed or if I have been sitting for any length of time. I also just started taking Levothroid for a thyroid condition at the same time so I don't know if that contributes anything to my symtoms.

I was on Lipitor for several years with no problems until my insurance company stopped paying. My doctor put me on Zocor. I have been on Zocor for 2 months. Within the last few weeks I've noticed my knees being stiff. I'm a teacher and am up and down so this is not only painful but inconvenient. I mentioned the stiffness to my pharmacist this evening when I went to pick up my new prescription and he took it from my hand and told me it was not a good thing to have and to call my doctor with the problem. Just from the little he said I assume the side effects can be really bad. I'll call my doctor tomorrow.

I have been off ZOCOR for 3 years, but still suffering effects from the drug, which I took for 4 months only...20 mg. I lost all muscle strength in my arms, dark urine, leg cramps, continued after I stopped taking the drug. The first 6 mos of stiffness were terrible...then slow improvement. I still have difficulty going up stairs and standing up in spite of exercises for leg muscles. My arm strength is slowly coming back along with some energy. My doctor prescribed VIOXX and then BEXTRA to counteract Zocor effects. Amazing that I'm alive -- but refuse all drugs now.

I have been on 20mg of Zocor for 18 months and have had a steady downhill spiral with reflux disease, depression, numbness, stiffness and tingling in toes, muscle cramps and shooting pains and trouble sleeping. After much research, I am begining to suspect the Zocor although my doctors don't want to hear it.

I was on Zocor a little over a year and a friend told me about his girl friends mother and the problem she was haveing and I stopped.
I, had leg, ankle.feet, sholders, arms I was in pain all the time. I coulden't hardly walk and was hanging onto things to keep from falling. I was always afrade of breaking my feet or legs. The mussels in my arms fell like they are tearing when I lift something over 10 lb's or if I turn a screw to tight.
I am an Electrion and it's hard to climb ladders and I'm afrade of falling. I couldn't catch myself.
I still can't sleep and I have a lot of stiffness in my neck and sholders.
When I took myself off this medication I told the Doctor and now she has stopped all appointments and now I have no Doctor.
I have also had a hard time getting up and down stairs and get out of breath. I still have some problems but things are getting a little better.

I am a 54 year old healthy woman, and thought I was going nuts! I have been on Simvastatin for about 14 months and on a gradual overall decline...big black pms-like cloud over my head and unable to find anything to feel happy about (I have a GREAT life). Couldn't sleep, gained weight, heart racing (went on 24 hr monitor-nothing!), dizzy and feeling like I could pass out ON A REGULAR BASIS! Tingle down my left arm, heartburn constantly, stiffness in my neck, tingly hot feet at night, zero interest in sex, miserable. I had been taking myself off all the over the counter stuff and estrogen trying to figure out what was going on...then I started the online research on statins. My doctor told me there was no way that a statin could be the cause of my dizziness and problems. WRONG!!! I was having the same side effects as all of you and went off the simvastatin two weeks ago. Bottom line is that I already feel so much better, walked 2 miles with ENERGY today and am happy. Hoping that I will get back to my old self again. I will be taking the herbal approach to lower my cholesterol...never again this crap!
