I am a 67 year old female who has been in good health. I was put on 40 ml of Zocor about three years ago. After taking it for six months I asked to be changed to Lipitor because of stomach pain I felt was caused by Zocor. I didn't have stomach pain with Lipitor.
A year ago I must have had a senior moment because I changed back to Zocor. Generic Zocor was much less expensive than Lipitor.
During the past year I developed most of the side effects that everyone is mentioning: stomach pain, nausea, memory loss, sleep problems. I didn't relate this to Zocor.
Then I woke up one morning and could not stand without severe pain in my left knee. It hurt to touch it. A week later my right knee developed the same symptoms. This didn't happen gradually. It was very fast. I can also identify with those who say that back pain makes them walk bent over. The pain also radiated into my shins and one heel.
I wept when I found this site and read all the posts about similar symptoms. I decided to go off the Zocor for a month and see what happens. I've been off it for three weeks today. The pain is MUCH less but not gone. I'm hoping that it will continue to get better.

I took 10mg of zocor for about 6 weeks. Had pain in my left leg every morning but thought it was my siatica coming back but it seemed much worse right after starting zocor. 5 weeks into taking it Began having unusual stomach pain right under left rib then would move around my stomach and then whet to back and on sides. I quit zocor and went to the doc. He said I might have kidney infection so he put me on septra, pain not going away and now have terrible fatique. I have been off zocor for 1 1/2 weeks

I'm a 48 year-old male. Overall, I am (was) reasonably fit (recent ex-military) for my age and still have a fairly fit and active lifestyle despite my illness. I have been taking Simvastatin for almost two years. They were prescribed by my doctor as I had slightly high (8) cholesterol. I suffer from ulcerative colitis and therefore experience constant stomach pain & discomfort so ignored stomach pains. After using these statins though, I started to experience irregular palpitations - sometimes quite frightening! A year ago I asked my doctor about a constant burning pain high up on my stomach's right side, which I thought was the colitis worsening. I mentioned the palpitations and general weariness, decreasing vision and tremors. I specifically asked if this could be related to the statins though. (No!) He did refer me for a scan, which I am told proved negative. Last year my tongue ulcerated dramatically. Again, queried side-effects with doctor (No!) Biopsy showed nothing but tongue stayed swollen & painful for 3 months. My eyesight has now started to deteriorate rapidly (Blurred vision - which corrects itself after a while) I also experience extreme fatigue, breathlessness, have bouts of considerable pain in my back, thighs (constant there), same for wrists and also keep getting pins & needles in my feet when running. I'm 48 - not "old" and the progression of these symptoms has been dramatic over the last few months. I asked for a blood test as I thought that I might be developing diabetes - Turns out my liver readings are now abnormal! After surfing the web and reading all the other people's story's of similar effects, I'm stopping taking the statins straight away before it's too late! I'd rather take a chance on the cholesterol. Doctors seem to blank any correlation between symptoms and the statins use, even when questioned directly (£££'s probably!) I'll re-post in a few months (April?) ref whether there's any improvement health-wise after stopping these potential killers.

Lipitor, pravacol and zocor have the same effect on me. They are, swollen ankles, palpitations, dizziness, chest and stomach pain and nausea. Once I was hospitalized for a few days while tests were taken. The stress test had me running uphill on the treadmill. When my legs were about to give out, they decided it was not my heart. I have not been watching my diet, and my total cholesterol went up from 165, to 185. Doc wants me to increase zocor to double the dose. I don't want to do that. I'm 70 years old, work out and swim on a regular basis with no chest pain. Any suggestions??
