I have been on 50mg of Zoloft daily for about three years. Lately, my breathing is very laboring when laying down. Is this one of the side effects of Zoloft?

Also, I am on 50 mg of Provigil daily which helps me concentrate. Could the combination of these two drugs cause my shortening of breath when laying down?

Thank you very much for a prompt reply. Thanks.

The first time I was put on zoloft I had diarrhea constantly. I would go out to eat at a restaurant and before I had even left the restaurant, the entire dinner had already passed through me - mostly undigested. I couldn't sleep, but I had tons of energy. This went on for months, and I lost 30 lbs. Along with a lot of hair. I don't remember whether or not I was as twitchy before I started taking zoloft. I've had bad dry mouth, but I've found that Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash help out with that very much. The odd thing is, I had to stop taking zoloft because I changed jobs and couldn't afford it without insurance. Now that I'm back on it, my side effects are completely different. I have major headaches, fatigue, I can sleep all day, and I can't concentrate to save my life. I haven't had any diarrhea, in fact I feel constipated, and hungry. I'm gaining weight instead of losing...?

Taking zoloft 50mg for ppd...jaw clenching is the side effect I just realized I have too after reading the other posts. I think it's making me feel better too, though so I guess if I just practice relaxing I can say the benefits outweigh the negative. I also sometimes feel like I can't concentrate.

I am 20 years old and have been on Zoloft for 2 1/2 months. I totally agree with other posts in that I have had terrible lethargy and been sleeping 12 hours a night, when I am normally sleeping 7. I have also noted the foggy feeling, which makes me think I'm sleepy even though as I said previously I sleep like 12 hours a night. It does interfere with my ability to concentrate and sometimes I get concerned while driving that I will fall asleep or not be able to continue focusing. I really hate the dreams - I feel like they interfere with my ability to get good sleep, maybe they affect the REM or something, heck if I know. I also note incredible sexual side effects, however, they seem to be subsiding with time - and I hope that trend continues. What I am most concerned about is the hopelessness feeling. I have NEVER prior to Zoloft considered suicide or self-harm, however, in the past month I have begun feeling hopeless and worthless. I can't really explain why that would be because I really felt that I was improving on Zoloft. Thus, I can only conclude that it's possible hopelessness is a serious side-effect of Zoloft, one that some of us may not be able to deal with. I am going to a new doctor next week and hopefully he won't change me up too much. Oh and - seriously amplifies the effect of alcohol. So if you're a drinker and just beginning Zoloft, watch out! I lost control of my legs the first time I drank while on Zoloft, and I didn't even have much to drink. Again, I really fear that Zoloft, when treating patients with GAD or Panic Disorders may cause symptoms of depression (lethargy, hopelessness) and then we'll end up treating two illnesses, one of which is truly just a side effect of Zoloft. Hmm.. if anyone has any suggestions, pleast let me know! Thank you! And really, good luck. I believe this medication rocks for a lot of people - you've just got to figure what side effects you're willing to deal with, since most SSRIs give the dreams too.

I've been on Zoloft for three weeks now. I'm taking 50mg per day.

Mainly sexual side effects. It takes much effort to become
erect and I've had one orgasm in two weeks and it was a struggle and not enjoyable.

In the beginning, I had headaches, fogginess, tininitus, and overactive sexually for a week which disturbed me. I was unable to concentrate at work. I also sweated off and on for a couple of days and then felt feverish with chills. After a week, all of those side effects went away and now it is just the sexual side effects. I am supposed to see the doctor next week.

The positive note is that Zoloft has done wonders for me already. I feel great. I sleep through the night, wake up in the mornings ready for the day... and my mind usually races through several thoughts at once. I'm able to concentrate now.

Background - 26 yr old female, debilitating agoraphobia/social phobia - tendency towards obsessive compulsive behaviours on alternating days 100mg/50mg been on for about 10 months. originally on effexor xr, but had a nasty allergic reaction.

Good things:

able to sleep better than i have in years
no more tears! (usually anyway)
able to leave my 'safe places' without having a freak out
no weight gain... actually i've lost weight (thanks Dr Atkins!)
able to interract with other humans again

Bad things:

attention span of a goldfish (constant brain fog)
diarrhoea to begin with (gone now)
very easy brusing
bizarre vivid dreams (although better than prev nightmares)
constantly fatigued - especially at my desk job
missed dose = mild electric jolts through system AWFUL!!
sex drive killer :(

I would go the Zoloft over my old life anyday, even with the side effects. I am planning to study next year so want to drop the dose so I can actually concentrate instead of re-reading stuff over and over but am a jot worried about the getting off. I feel as though I've 'dumbed down' alot as I just can't concentrate.

I'm taking alternating 50mg 1 day/100mg next. I was prescribed this for debilitating social phobia/agoraphobia (with a tendency towards obsessive compulsive behaviour) - which resulted in mild depression, so essentially it's been prescribed for anxiety.

I also have been having VERY weird vivid dreams (although that makes a great change from not enough sleep and constant nightmares). I have also found that I'm extremely lethargic.

No weight gain, and I've found it has helped me alot with respect to allowing me to leave my 'safe places' - (I'm getting past the letterbox now!!) as I feel much more relaxed most of the time.

If I forget a dose after a while I feel as though I'm putting my finger in an electric socket and getting a mild electric current running through every few minutes. It's really awful.

My attention span has also dropped to that of a goldfish. I can't concentrate on anything for any length of time - which is rather unfortunate as I having a 'thinking' job, not a 'doing' job. It's like I'm constantly tired and hung over.

ive been on sertraline for about 3 years. i feel dissasociated alot of the time and it pisses me off, i dont know weather its becouse of the sertraline 'cos i cant remeber what it was like before i started taking it. im also really lazy and find it difficult to concentrate in lessons, but agian it might just be me. Im hating the dissasociatin though, especially now that my depression has been pretty much gone for a year. my psychologist is always buisy so i cant get an appointment to get off it. When i do get an appointment, it gets cancelled cos the dappy whench is always ill or something. grrrr, its annoying.

I have gained 40 lbs in the past year, since taking zoloft, always hungry, feel more anxious, cant seem to relax, or concentrate sometimes. Feel sometimes like my mind is racing. Mood swings, dry mouth, trouble sleeping.

But the positive effects has been relief of depression. I get angry sometimes, and hysterical, much more emotional.
