I have been taking zyrtec for 5 days. I bought a kitten and have mild allergies to cats. I thought this medication would keep the allergies at bay, however the side effects are not worth it. I would rather the runny nose i think. The headaches and fatigue are awful. I feel very unwell. I wont be taking it tomorrow or ever again

I started using Zyrtec about 8 weeks ago for seasonal allergies, runny nose, congestion etc. It did help but I recently have noticed that I have had lower back pain, feeling extremely tired and irritable. I did not consider these symptoms as being related until recently when I began wondering why I was having lower back pain. Since Zyrtec is the only med. that I have been taking, I decided to do a search on side effects and have read many testimonies like mine. I am a 38 year old female. To me the side effects out way the benefits of this drug. I am not going to take it any longer and see if these symptoms go away.

Here's what's going on...
I've been taking Zyrtec for years with no problems. I don't have the usual allergies like runny nose, itchy eyes, etc. My allergies make me very sick to my stomach--all day long. It was like morning sickness. I was on polaramine for many years and they discontinued it, then I found Contact and then they discontinued the ingredient that helped me that was in Contact. After trying a few other OTC and prescribed antihistamines, Zyrtec was the only one that helped me.
Since I have started taking the OTC Zyrtec (not to be confused with OTC Zyrtec-D), I've been getting terrible irregular heart rhythms...what happened??
Can anyone tell me if the product has changed since they went OTC? And what is in Zyrtec that makes the heart go crazy like that? It's very annoying. I'll have to start trying all different meds now to find one that works.

My son has been on Zyrtec for the past year - he is now 4. He the sweetest disposition one minute and is a monster the next hating us and wishing we were dead. We assumed that it was his age and possibly a behavior disorder until I read the other entries. We took him off immediately and he is back to the kid we lost last year. This needs to be taken seriously. When I researched the side effects on the drug website they do not mention behavior issues as a possible side effect. My son will live with a runny nose and a smile on his face.

My son had behavioral side effects. It worked great for the runny nose, but he always got in trouble at school on the days I gave him his medicine. We had to skip the allergy medicine for good days at school. Me 2 year old has been taking it for allergies and I think he may be having the same problem. I thought he was just bad, but when we ran out of medicine this week he behaved much better.

my 4 year old daugther was on zyrtec for almost a year, she has inlarged tonsils and allergic to dust, the whole time she was on it she snored so bad you could hear her in the other room, and had bouts where i believed she wasnt breathing, the doctors wanted to remove her tonsils.the whole time she was on it she still had runny nose and the docs told me to take her off zyrtec if i felt it wasnt helping, after i took her off it within a few days her snoring stopped,i totally believed she was allergic to the zyrtec and it bothers me no doctor figured this out and i hope this dosent cause her any long term problems, her tonsils havent been red anymore either.no more snoring and i have chosen to keep her tonsils..

My 5 year old daughter was started on Zyrtec about 10 days ago (Dr.s orders) and WOW... not good. We can not see any changes in her allergies but her moodswings are way off. Last nite she told me "daddy that clear medicine I take now, makes me feel busy and funny". When we ask her why she is acting rude and being ugly, she says she doesn't know. She has been taking Singlar for about 2 months and Nasonex for about 1-2 years. HELP!!!!!
