Why is there not a class action lawsuit against the makers of generic Wellbutrin-bupropion xl??? I'm an RN who tried taking it after not wanting side effects of SSRIs I'd experienced in the past and so many of us are having the SAME severe allergic reactions! I quit taking it after 2 ER trips and swollen lips and made sure to document everything that happened. I have no food or drug allergies yet now have to carry around an epi-pen! This drug should be pulled, I know people who've taken the name brand Wellbutrin or generic Budeprion SR and didn't have these reactions. I'd stick with the name brand and if on the generic be alert for the first sign of hives. It's a week later and I'm still having to take antihistamines for severe headaches even though they gave me steroids for a week!
Mbobrien1 - I experienced the same thing, only I'd been taking Bupropion XL for 2 years before the hives showed up. I didn't know what what causing the hives, so I continued taking Bupropion, and instead did elimination diets and switched to organic products, etc. I was taking antihistamines every day, but that just didn't cut it. The hives got so bad after a matter of months that I had to go to the ER, get a week of steriods and an epi-pen. Of course, at that point I stopped taking Bupropion and the hives abated a bit. It's been a month now since I discontinued the medicine, and the hives are manageable with daily antihistamines. I can't describe the months of pain and physical suffering because of this medicine. I would understand if it was just me - but it's not, apparently. If many others have suffered similarly because of this, I agree; something needs to be done.
Sucks2 - I am on Budeprion sr and it has caused sever ringing in my ears. I already have tinnitus,and menieres disease. This really scares me, think it is time to sue.
Hordover - Same thing. Hives, and I've tried two different makers of the generic. Maybe it's the heavy coating on the regular pill that makes the XL less toxic to our systems?
Either way, within twelve hours of taking the new generic I had neck and back hives.
No reaction from officials yet, eh?
Met_ii - Wow, reading this really sucks. I've been on the bupropion XL 150 for two weeks and two days. The ER was great from 1 -4AM last night and am still miserable today. Wish I would have known this, done with that medication but glad I've figured out what it was. Thanks to all who shared.
Efyjoe - i was taking 150mg generic for a month, ran out a few days (3ish) switched to 300mg, and now about 3 days later i have crazy hives spreading over my body like wildfire. i have NEVER had hives or allergies of any kind to anything. and i have been tested since others in my family have.
Mommayiam - I had a Grand Mal Seziure while I was on this medication! I am so ticked off because now I am consider high risk of having antoher regardless of being off the meds. This medication needs to be pulled.
Tscov - I had six months of undiagnosed DEBILITATING PAIN that was not controlled by pain medication. I also was an emotional wreck. I cried at the drop of a hat. I experienced memory loss confusion and speech problems. I was unable to care for myself. I was bedridden for months. Gradually I was able to stand and then walk for a day or two. I progressed to be able to move more. At the beginning I couldn't even hold anything due to pain and weakness. I went to a dozen doctors who were unable to diagnose my condition. Finally I was able to see a pain management doctor who had me discontinue the use of the generic wellbutrin XL. My pain has greatly subsided. The stress and pain and of course medical expenses were tremendous.Before I was diagnosed I had x-rays, ultrasounds Ct scans MRI's and an exploratory surgery. I was unable to perform daily activities and could not bend down due to the pain. I could not even wear normal clothing because of the abdominal pain. I was only able to wear wide banded sweats. It was horrific.
Kirstenalexis - I was taking the generic anti-depressant for about two weeks and experienced memory loss, confusion, speech problems, nausea and dizziness, exaggerated emotions including unprovoked anger and had a Grand Mal Seizure a week ago today (I'm not epileptic nor have I ever had a seizure before). I was sitting up on the edge of my bed when the seizure began and fell off, injuring my shoulder and scratching my face on my hardwood floor. I've since discontinued the medication and am slowly regaining my short-term memory, but I'm unable to remember anything from when I started the drug. If there is any information about a class action lawsuit, I would like to know about it. More people need to be aware of the possible side effects as they seem to be fairly common and serious.
Ryansgranny - I would like to know if anyone took it and continued to gain weight. I have put on 30 pounds and my blood sugar is crazy. The doctor told me that taking stuff like that can put on weight but I never imagined that it would do this to me.
Duba - Well reading all this is some what's surprising about three years ago my Dr. took me off of Celexa and put me on Wellbutrin because she said it would help you lose weight and it would help me with the sexual side effects that I was having with the Celexa. During the time of changing over I was taking the Celexa and the Wellbutrin at the same time to the Dr.'s orders I wound up having a seizure at the wheel and going through a red light and hit someone. When the paramedics arrived they were calling on a medevac helicopter to take me into the hospital. So they put me back on the Celexa only.
