Accutane Premature Ovarian Failure, Infertility
Has anyone had problems with losing their period or infertility or premature ovarian failure or anything in that range...and also has taken accutane sometime in their life?
Ksten09 - Yes, I am 28 years old and I was recently diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. I'm not quite to POF, but it's close. I was given a less than 5% chance of ever conceiving using my own eggs. I took accutane for 3 months when I was 17 years old. My husband and I wanted so badly to have a child, that we went through a round of In-vitro fertilization using donor eggs. I am now 6 weeks pregnant. Although I do not regret my decision to use donor eggs, I still want to know if taking accutane had anything to do with my diagnosis. The entire procedure was $20,000 just to be able to conceive through IVF via donor eggs. The sad part is that my donor, is the same age as I am. I've been told that because it is still a fairly new drug and women who have taken it are now starting to reach their child bearing years, only time will tell. There isn't enough data out there yet, but hopefully we can get more women coming forward about this.
Inkblotali - Hello. I took accutane (then Roaccutane) when I was 16 adn 17. I went through premature ovarian failure at 21. This was only discovered because I went off the pill (you have to take it when you're on accutane). I'm now 38 and have to take HRT everyday. I never get a period. I've always suspected this drug caused my premature ovarian failure. I do think, if there was some kind of open support network, more women would speak up. I'm sure the drug company will argue that we were always on course for premature menopause because our ovaries were never working properly in the first place, and that's why we had such bad acne.
