Some parts of the summarized letter that was sent to Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals when they first heard of her serious adverse side effect from the drug Actonel:
Tuesday, October 16, 2007 was just another beautiful morning for me. I started that morning off not knowing that I would have to have Emergency Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Surgery. After my daughter and I arrived home from a Wal-Mart Store with a pre-cooked Lemon pepper whole rotisserie chicken, it was soon placed on the kitchen cabinet. It was then that I started to talk to my daughter and after a while my son who is a formal United States Marine. After talking to them, I walked into the kitchen and picked up a knife. Afterward I removed the plastic top off of the chicken. I removed the skin off the top/breast part of the chicken and cut about two to three small pieces of meat off the chicken. I then placed the small pieces of chicken meat on a napkin. Later I pick up a small piece of the chicken and placed it in my mouth. Like always I chewed the chicken up good before swallowing it.
As soon as the chewed up fine chicken had passed out of my mouth and into my throat, I instantly began to have severe throat/esophagus problems. My food could not pass through my esophagus down to my stomach. Not only was it very, very difficult for me to breath, I also had very, very bad complicated chest discomforted, pain problems too. I was choking. At least that's what it felt like.
I placed my hand in the center of my chest. I tried to drink a little water, which made it even worst. Since those things did not help, I started to walk, while at the same time I lifted my breasts up and down. I could not respond to my children when asked, "what is wrong with you," because at the time the pain from choking, breathing, trying to swallow and chest discomforted would not allow me to. But I do remember saying uncontrollable, "help me Lord! Come on! Help me Lord!" After my children heard me spoke those words, they knew then that I needed help from them too.
When asked by my son, "are you choking?" I nodded my head. Of course there were times that I couldn't even talk. When asked by my son, "do you won't me to give you the Heimlich, Maneuver?" Again I nodded my head. Unfortunately, for me the Heimlich maneuver did not work.
I was asked time, after time, by my daughter, "Do you won't me to call 911?" I could not answer her. I not only felt and looked like I was about to pass out, I couldn't no longer nod my head. My daughter decided to call 911. She told the operator what was happening to me and asked her to send an ambulance.
By now I was hotter. I still could not breathe, the way I normally breathe and there were times, which I could not hear the way I normally heard. I felt death. Therefore while breathing severely, fast, short and wildly, unstable then I ever breathe before, I fought hard through the grace of my Lord to make myself breath in order to stay alive.
The Lord allowed me to hear and listen to my son. The Lord worked through my son. My son told me there is one more thing you can do. You got to make yourself throw up. He went away for a second or two, which seemed like hours to me. When he came back he had an ink pen in his hand. He said. “You can use this ink pen or your finger to make yourself throw up. You got to do it. Or, I can do it for you.
I chose to use my finger to try and make myself vomited. I spit up water/spit and just a little bit of very fine/thin well chewed up chicken. Sometime after that I felt better.
When the ambulance arrived I thought I was somewhat ok.
When I got in the ambulance, heading to the hospital I had the same severe problem. I went through everything that I had gone through earlier except sitting up on the bed, pulling off the oxygen mask, and wanting to unfasten the bed belt, and jump out the back of the ambulance door.
Again, not only was it very, very difficult for me to breath, I also had very, very bad complicated chest discomforted, pain problems too, from trying to swallow something as thin sand simple as spit. Not knowing what was wrong with me.
Again, I was a choking person. I felt pain in my chest muscles, chest bones, joints, back and down in my esophagus. Of course at the time it just didn’t sink in. My esophagus was not normal, which means there was a war going on inside of me. Again, and again, my esophagus was fighting my soul, and my esophagus was winning. Since, my airway was also shutting down again and again and I was breathing quick, short, heavy and fast, I did what my son had told me to do. I stuck my finger in my mouth to make myself vomited/spited in a garbage can that the ambulance man, which, I had asked, “are you or someone going to stay back here with me,” had given me. He was real nice and calm, even though my children could not ride in the ambulance with me. They followed behind the ambulance. The ambulance man made me felt like he was there for me. I felt it. I saw it. He felt my pain or he was either a good actor. By him being there gave me a lot of relief. And by me spitting in that garbage can gave me a little relief until later in the emergency room.
Later in the emergency room, while I sat in a bed, I had the same severe, horrible problem. I could not swallow my spit. Once again, I was now going through everything that I had gone through at home and in the ambulance bed.
And by me constantly spitting in a hospital spited container that I frightfully, asked a nurse for, (even though the nurse told me not to make myself gag) gave me relief. Once the nurse saw that making myself gag and spit up my spit that could not be swallowed gave me some relief, she told me to, keep on during what you are doing.
Shortly after that, I asked to see my children before I was completely sedated. After that I went on to have Emergency Esophagogastroduodenoscopy surgery performed by the doctor.
After my Surgery, the doctor told my son, “not even something as small as a pea could have gone down your mother’s throat. Her throat was just that small/tight.”
During my emergency surgery the doctor learned that I had a very tight, closed up lower esophageal ring, ulcerative esophagitis, pyloric channel ulcers, and gastric ulcers. Those ulcers were not only in my throat/esophagus, but also they were in my stomach/antrum. Of course my mucos was abnormal. I have never in my entire life had ulcers in any part of my body.
Through an oral face to face conversation, I was told also by another doctor who looked at my medical records and soon after said. “You certainly have all the ulcers that Actonel causes/tight lower esophageal Ring. “
My throat closed up because of Actonel 35 mg tablets. I have had ulcers in my esophagus and my stomach, because of Actonel. I had and still do have difficult/pain and trouble swallowing because of Actonel. I have and still do have difficult, breathing because of Actonel. I have and still do have pain and discomfort in my chest, throat and stomach because of Actonel.
One month and 18 days later I had to have my second Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Surgery. It was scheduled. I was still having trouble swallowing my spit, eating and drinking water along with other things that was Actonel related.
I could not eat anything, but soup for two weeks after my first, emergency surgery. I also could not eat anything, but soup for two more weeks after my second scheduled, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Surgery. Of course I had to make myself eat the soup. Even though I could not avoid throat pain, the soup was eaten, as slow, as I have ever eaten anything in my entire life.
Actonel caused me to be Hospitalize for 8 day from black tarry bloody diarrhea stools from my rectum. Blood came out of my rectum like pouring, down from the sky, rain. I bled from my rectum for over a week. I had to receive 2 bags of blood on two different occasions. Actonel caused cysts to grow in my liver. Actonel caused me to have severe pain and much more…
I am, an Anemia because of Actonel. I was hospital for 8 days from a side effect that Actonel causes. Black, tarry bloody diarrhea stools poured, from my rectum for over a week. And to think I got a free one month supply of Actonel 35mg from Procter & Gamble.
I also had and still have some of the following symptoms/sickness. Headaches, upset stomach, nausea, eye pain, heavy tongue, swelling ankles, swelling on both sides of my neck, jaw pain, pain in my muscles/joints thigh pain that later turned out to be very severe, black, tarry, stools, Depression, Anemia, Cysts in my liver, hiatal hernia, and much more.
Through a phone conversation: Mr. Rocco Rotello, Procter and Gamble, he told me that I didn’t have surgery, you had a procedures done.
Definition of Procedure Is a specification of series of actions, acts or operation which have to be executed in the same manner in order to always obtain the same result in the same circumstances(for example, emergency procedures).
