Advair HFA Breathing Difficulties, Advair, Headaches, Medication, Omega 3 Oils
Posted over a year ago
I have been on advair for 2 years and am starting to experience headaches that last the entire day. It helps with my breathing difficulties and I am unsure if I can just stop taking the medication. Its really difficult for me right now and I'm starting to feel depressed about it. I'm not sure how I'll get through this.
Propsguy - i took advair for many years but i took only one puff of the lowest dose a day in the morning. what strength are you on? the first thing is, next time you refill your perscription, ask your doctor to put you on the next strength down. once you see how that works and you are comfortable, try cutting it to only one puff a day. eventually, you can try one puff every other day. with a good diet and lots of natural anti-inflammatories (omega 3 oils) you can probably do with less or even no medication.
i eventually stepped down to the lowest dose of flovent, one puff every other day and then nothing
Lacrossegal - Inhaled corticosteroids -ICS- (1 component of advair) deal with the inflammation in the lungs and it can take up to 4-6 weeks before you have complete effects. It may take days before the full effects of the ICS wears off and you could end up having asthma attacks right away or not at all. We're all individuals and react differently to medications and their withdrawl.
It is a BAD idea to do propsguy did unless you're working with your healthcare provider. We don't know how severe your asthma is, what triggers it or what dose you're on. You may need a lower dose (Advair is a twice a day medication because the dose effects diminish after 12 hours) or even a total change in medication - maybe even to a one component ICS such as Flexhaler or Asthmanex.
Either way - please talk to your health care provider before discontinuing your medication. You may be having headaches for a completely unrelated reason! Good luck.
