In the last five years, I've taken ambien or zolpidem during several periods of stress. took for several weeks each time. only this last time did I finally realize this drug is what caused severe heart palpitations and panic attacks, which i've mistakenly thought to be cardiac problems or a mild heart attack.
first time it happened I went to my dr. who then sent me to a cardiologist to run tests. ekg was fine, stress test was fine. was sent on my way, told it was probably stress or severe indigestion, and given a prescription for antiacid. nearly $1500 later, and I still didnt know it was ambien related.
fast forward to this year. under stress at work, I take ambien for a week, ended up in emergency room with horrible chest pain and palpitations, they run all heart tests, my heart is fine, so they again think its digestive disorder and run more tests. only to find nothing, and i'm told to decreasd my stress and take more antacids.
after stopping the ambien, and the heart problems stopped, the lightbulb went on, it was the ambien,i was taking both times this sent me to the dr. or the ER!
to test my theory, I took half a pill again for 4 nights..... wanna guess what started today?? heavy heart palpitations! like my heart is trying to jump out of my chest... this time i'm not running to the dr.... i'm throwing the ambien in the trashcan. I'm a healthy, thin person that takes no other medication, but ambien almost made me lose my financial and mental stability!
