Thinking of doing the antieppressaant thing but really cynical and unsure about it
Would appreciate any un biased oppinions
Tizzylisha - I have been on Prozac for the last 15 yrs. It has worked wonders for me.
It takes about 1 month to get into your system. It helped me to get on with my life. I had panic attacks since I was a young child, before anyone knew what they were.
Hope this helps.
Panicfree - I was diagnosed with panic disorder about 4 months ago. It started with minor anxiety attacks and has led to full panic attacks. Very difficult to breathe, chest pains, dizziness, nauseau, rapid heartbeat, etc. I thought I was having heart attack. It wasn't until I had a panic attack in my doctor's office that he realized I had this disorder. Since 5/4 I've been on Celexa. We started with 10 mgs but it wasn't doing the trick. About a month ago I was increased to 20mgs which seems to be work well. I urge you to take the medication...it works.
You should keep in mind, the disorder will get worse (even with the medication) before it gets better.......you'll feel like it's not working. But knowing that you'll get worse and that you are NOT dieing, comforts you. My doctor gave me Vistaril to go with the Celexa. So during the times that I felt worse I took the Vistaril and it calmed me right now.
I've been told you cannot get through panic disorder without medication...and I believe it. I've also read up on the disorder and it's so common you'd be amazed. Kim Basinger was diagnosed with it after not leaving her house for 6 weeks.
Please consider the medication....I think you'll find yourself feeling a lot better!!

Changeurlife - It's completely UNTRUE please read about the Charles Linden Method...I was on med's which ONLY serves as a band-aid. I wish I was aware of his method...I would of had my life back in my early 20's. He is MORE than accurate about his techniques and extreme knowledge as he was suffered the worse panic attacks I have ever heard of. Google this method, BUY the C.D. it will change your life FOREVER! They also have a 24 hour assistance line that will help you with anything you may feel or need. It's about re-training your response to the flight and freight, NOT taking a pill and knowing that you will just need another one in a short amount of time. I thought this method was a scam, just another money maker...GOD was I mistaken. I left the hospital after hitting rock bottom and being sick of feeling panicky...I decided to talk to others that tried his method, after hearing the fantastic great reviews I jumped at the chance at buying his c.d. If has forever changed my life!
Trust me If it helped me it can help you!
Good luck to you all!!!
Changeurlife - The UNTRUE part of my email was a reference to: Don't be fooled by the world of farmacology...yes medication is necessary at times, however panic attacks can be completely managed.
For example: The C.D.'s are to re-program your central nervous system to gain back the control, the confidence to be in control in the first place. Yeah right, how can one gain control during a panic attack...it's completely possible. I had suffered with panic attacks for over 20 years, not knowing what to do besides taking drugs...all of them, of course they work, BUT, only temporary (we sufferers know that).
It really gets under my skin that most doc's tell us to journal what we feel when going through one, write notes to recall what we took, how long did it take for the pills to work. IT'S COMPLETELY THE CONTRARY OF WHAT ONE SHOULD DO!!!
After being enlightened by Charles Lindens experience I realized this guy was on to something. You are NOT to talk about it, NOT to write it down. The contrary he teaches how to reflect back on the visuals that one learns through his audio tapes.
It's a true God sent!
