Squamouscellcarsinomaof Headand Neck
Posted over a year ago
my husband has squamouscellcarsinoma.
No primary found 3 tumurs in lymph glands of neck,2 in shoulder blade,4 in throat, possibly more in his body.
Without treatment (his decision) he has been given prognosus of 3 months, he is not ill at all yet,but his neck is getting arger..
Could his prognosus be wrong, or as we were told it is most likely he will have a short illness.
Please help me.
Cutezee - First of all, I'm no medical expert. I've only research different kinds of skin cancer for school. With that being said, SCC is a type of skin cancer, but not typically the worst kind. Melanoma is. That's the kind that can spread throughout the body if not treated on time. I would definitely go for a 2nd opinion SOON. Take all lab results with you. If you opt to stay with your current Dr., ask lots of questions. It seems like there needs to be more clarification. But again, I could be totally wrong. Good luck to you and your husband.
Cpehs - I would not wait. Even if they are not sure where the primary is, he has multiple tumors throughout the neck, lymph system and shoulder. This is NOT the same thing as skin cancer. This is serious. Most squamous cell cancers of the head and neck are not painful during the early stages, which is why they are typically diagnosed at late stage.
I know this is shocking, but you have to face it. This is real and your husband needs to get treated. I would seek out the very best care you can, at a COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER (someone who specialies in head and neck or thoracic cancer, not someone who only sees a couple cases a year- this could make the difference between surviving it or not). Have you seen the SPOHNC website? They have good information and supportive tips for people with cancers in the head and neck area. also www.cancer.gov- click on the patient version of the cancer types your husband has. I wish you and your husband well.
