Took Chantix for 2 and 1/2 months, starting May1, and it helped me quit smoking. I did have to make sure I ate good meals before taking it, my dreams were great, suffered more headaches than usual but not horrendous ones. I loved that I wasn't hounded 24/7 with thoughts of needing a cigarette. That was always the hardest thing to deal with when I had tried to quit in the past. I'm a 40 year, 2 pack a day smoker...hard for me to believe. I travel for work and have found that hotel rooms have become difficult to come by for smokers--- and my work requires spending hours a day/night on my computer in a hotel room. Something had to give and I need my job! All went well until I started gaining weight suddenly, about a month into using Chantix. I was actually eating less/fewer calories...and I had increased vegetables, fruit and fiber in my diet. Still I've gained a full clothing size. It's now about 3 weeks since I stopped taking the medication and I have been emotionally out of control for the past week. I've cried in front of everyone I encounter it seems. I am acting a bit crazy...and in public no less. I am thankful to read of others suffering similarly, that the depression is a side effect and will go away. I feel like I can overcome this, it's do-able. And I remain (and am confident I will continue to be) cigarette free.
