I just recently received my second dose of Depo-Provera. I love not having to worry about a pill everyday, but I do have a concern: I have consistently been bleeding for two months. It is not a heavy flow, but just enough to be a hassle and it is not always blood, sometimes it is a brown color. My doctor said the second shot should have stopped the bleeding, but it hasn't. Is this normal? Should I look into other methods of birth control?
Jessiap18 - I have been on depo for most of the last 7 years, and for me, it stops my periods and it takes 6 months after quitting it for them to come back. That is the main reason I keep going back... I love that part. One of my friends started depo 3 1/2 years ago, and she had the bleeding for a while too. It lasted a lot of the first year, but then there was nothing at all after that. She just quit it a few months ago because she is getting married and wants a baby after her wedding, and she got her period back within a month of quiting. But she loved it, the bleeding got lighter as time went on, and I was always told that most people still have periods or spotting during the first year, and a few will still after that. I am definitely one of the lucky ones, because for me it is almost instant- I get the shot, and my period is gone. If this bleeding is something you can't handle and doesn't stop, I would probably look for something else to use instead. But if you can handle dealing with it, then you are at least halfway done with it and it should be getting better. Eventually you would have no bleeding at all... so if you can handle it a little longer, it might be worth it. Good luck, I love depo, and I hope it works out for you too!
